Question for devs... is it possible to create an update.zip from a backup of 2.2 OTA then install to root of sd card so instead of doing an sbf we could rollback through android recovery?
Related
I did the original 2.2 update.zip leak (not the more recent spf of the deodexed 2.2).
I did move the su file before the update.zip and am remained rooted through that upgrade.
What's my upgrade path now to 2.2 OTA?
Do I need to first spf back to 2.1 and then get the OTA? Will I remain rooted through that whole process or will I need to re-root (which isn't a problem?) after? If I do that, can I run a Titanium Backup of my apps and system now on 2.2 leak and just restore everything back once I'm on 2.2 OTA or will I have to reinstall/reconfigure a lot of things.
What about just a simple update.zip that would take me from 2.2 original leak to 2.2 OTA? Is that still being worked on or is this new bootloader preventing that? I saw birdman said he was working on that, but then the whole thing with the new bootloader came up and not sure how that effects this.
Just give Birdman time. If you're impatient, SBF to 2.1, update OTA, and root using the Droid 2 method. If you SBF you will have to restore everything, though.
I have the SBF 1.5.2 version installed and downloaded the OTA 1.5.7 update but I don't find a way to install that update manually without reflashing SBF 1.2.6 first (which I don't want).
How can I update?
Thanks

Why shouldn't it be possible?
I can start the Android Recovery console and install an update. Isn't it possible to use that method somehow to install this OTA update?
I have rooted and flashed recoveries to my fair share of Android phones, but all have slightly different methods, my friend recently bought a GT540 and wants to update to atleast Android 2.2 so he can install apps to his SD card since his internal storage is full, he doesn't know much about Android and I suggested that I will take his phone and root etc and put either 2.2 or 2.3 on it for him, I have seen the ROMs available and thats all fine and dandy but need a root guide and flashing recovery guide please.
Thanks in advance.
for rooting download z4root, search in google. recovery.img look here. and for flashing it download my app, Root Toolbox below. place the recovery.img in the root of you sdcard and rename it recovery.img(/sdcard/recovery.img). go into advanced and click flash recovery. wait a few seconds and it will be done. go to the reboot menu and click reboot recovery. you may need to unlock it first by flashing a fastboot rom with kdz updater, not shore though.
Hi. sorry noob here. i have the us tf101 transformer and it is still on 8.4.4.5 rooted but there is no cwm. I tried RecoveryInstaller but i keep getting parse error. I want to upgrade to ICS and there is already the ota so should i unroot or install cwm and flash ics rooted rom? also, is there another way to install cwm? adb doesn't work on my computer anymore
thanks in advance
i Would use an NVFlash stock rom to get to .21 then install the 0ta from there
do you happen to have step-by-step instructions? and does it use adb? because adb mysteriously stopped working on my laptop.
thanks

Just an alternate suggestion, but I had no problem with Recoveryinstaller on ICS. You could just do the OTA, then use Vipermod to root and then use Recoveryinstaller.
yeah, but i'm still in rooted HC 3.1 so i cant do OTA upgrades.

ok. i nvflashed to the 8.4.4.5 version. can i upgrade directly to .21? it is now unrooted but it wont get any ota updates and the wifi bar is white, not blue even when it actually works. also, i checked when power+vol up and it shows WW even when it is supposed to be US since i bought it in the states. a few months back i brought it to the service center and i think they tried to tamper with the bootloader so now it shows ww. should i update .zip ww? i tried us and it gives me the android /!\ logo.
thanks again!
Try this, download the .21 from Asus
Extract the zip file from within
make a copy of it and rename it EP101_SDUPDATE.zip
Put both the original file and the renamed file on the root of the external sd card
Boot into stock recovery
Device: Moto g4 plus XT1643
Current firmware: athene_f-userdebug 6.0.1 MPJ24.139-23.1 1 release-keys
Sorry, if it's been discussed before, but I am confused so I'd really appreciate if someone points me in the right direction about updating to the latest ota update.
My device has been modified in this order:
Unlocked Bootloader > flashed TWRP 3.0.2-0 > Systemless SuperSU (updated to v2.78SR1)
> Xposed Framework v86> ElementalX Kernel G4-0.3
I have a nandroid backup which I took right before installing xposed. Have all apps+data backed up thru titanium backup.
I don't have access to a PC currently and don't have an external SD Card either, only a 16GB otg drive. I have been frequently getting system update pop-ups and want to update.
I will be really thankful if someone helps me with steps needed to get the update on my phone.
Thanks in advance
First try to flash the stock recovery. Then simply download the update package but don't install it yet. Then copy the package from the data directory of the update app & paste it in internel storage & to sd card in case u want to take a backup. Then reboot to recovery & "apply update from sdcard" .
Try this! Not so sure about it but you can try!
1625 update
I also need guidance. I have the 1625 variant, rooted. I'm using the Slim6 ROM which is very smooth. I see that they've posted update instructions for 1643. Will this process also work for 1625?
You need stock boot image, stock system partition and stock recovery for the ota to work. Other option is to download the stock ROM zip file and flash using fastboot.

Is it possible to flash OTA zip over fastboot while system partition is changed (installed SuperSU)?
Nope

Is there any way how to apply OTA update w/o need to wipe all user data (e.g. flashing stock rom)?

For the OTA to succeed, you need 3 things.
Stock boot image
Stock system partition, meaning no changes.
Stock recovery
