Hi
Is there any way to prevent screen wake when home key is pressed.
There is actually. I can't remember the thread. Try searching for it. Probably show up
yeah it has something to do with hard keys mapping. search (like what 2nd poster said).

Hi peeps !
Searched all over the forum, but couldn't find the answer.
Is there a way to assign a function to the Power On/Off button other than to turn the Athena on / off ?
I typically, for instance, would like to bind the "DisplaySwitch" psShutXP shortcut to the Power Button so that when i press it, it doesn't turn the Athena off but only the screen.
Additionnaly, if one knows how to assign a sequence of actions to the Power Button (like "locking the device + switching screen on / off"), that'd be great.
Thanks guys !
Turning off only the screen is the default action for the power button...
There is an app that many on here use (I can't think of the name) which lets you reassign most of the buttons on the Athena, including the OK and Windows button, to many different functions. You can also hack the registry to reassign the camera/comm/browser buttons if the standard reassignments that Windows Mobile gives you aren't enough - but really odd things like locking + screen off may require you to also write your own small app first.
Hi there, thank you for your answer.
Actually, the Power button must do something more than just flicking the screen off, like scaling the CPU down, spinning out the microdrive, flushing a bunch of buffers, etc.
I'm asking because of a problem I posted about in the forum (here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=353456), about my Athena being strangely slow, and its CPU being 80% used by nothing that I can see or find, when I wake it up using the Power button.
I'm trying to see if I can circumvent the problem if I can't manage to find its source and solve it, in fact.
I used AEButtons Plus, which works pretty well with ALL buttons but the Power one, and I couldn't find a reference to it in the registry either.
Thanks for your time !
Yup, that's the app I was thinking of. I don't use it so I couldn't think of the name. Sorry to hear of your slowdown problems, I've been monitoring that thread. I agree that it sounds like a hardware problem at this point.
You need DevieLock.cab. It can be set to switch off the screen and lock the device. It can by mapped to any button but Power on/off though.
Thanks man, gonna look it up right away !
Can the hard "enter" button be set to turn on/wake phone instead of small top button?
has anyone set the hard "enter" button to wake the phone, together with a "slide to unlock" program to replicate how the iphone works? I hate pressing that tiny little button on the top and this would be a great modification... sorry if this has been addressed already - I looked but couldn't find anything on this subject. Thanks
I've managed to set the other hard keys to wake the phone up, however that software can't be fully utilized as it is a Topaz/Diamond2 software, will send it to you, if you PM me yr email.
chek this out

Hello, I have found out that my Leo wakes to the lock screen whenever any HW key is pressed. Is there a way on how to change it to respond to the End key only? I think this would minimize the count of accidental wakings in the pocket...
Could not find the correct settings in Settings (maybe another hidden thing?).
Thanks
Yeah same, most annoying, turned that stupid lock off too
Hi everyone,
Basically I am experiencing several nuisances that I hope some of you might have answers too.
Screen lock: The problem here is especially when reading something the screen will lock as its supposed to and I will have to unlock it with the slide lock in addition to the unlock pattern (I enabled it). What I'm looking for is a way to delay the screen lock. For example, if the screen blacks this should be an indication the screen is about to lock, allowing a 2-5 sec window for me to stop the locking if I'm looking at something.
Keyboard: I have the HTC IME mod, the one that comes with the rooting process. What I experience is when I am typing and if I make a mistake and use the left most arrow key to navigate to the mistake and correct it and then use the right most arrow key to navigate back this key will insert a "o" character for every time its pushed. I can push backspace and backspace will delete all of this characters at once. But if I pus the same key again it puts the "o" back. The only way to correct this is to use the left most arrow key once and then i can use the right most arrow key to navigate back.
Does anyone have any way around these issues?
Just constantly touch the screen or do something so it won't auto-lock.
Alternatively, just set the timeout higher.
I've never heard of the second issue.
I've had the keyboard problem with stock X10i keyboard, I turned off "word suggestion" which I found to be annoying rather than helpful. Problem solved!
As for the screen timeout problem you either extend the time before the screen times out, go to "Settings", "Sound & display" and "Screen timeout". You can set for a number of minutes or never and to make the phone sleep you'll need to press the lock button or there are apps on the market with a widget that that stops the phone sleeping until it is pressed again.
Hope that helps.

I don't know that you can stop one of the 4 inputs from waking up the hardware, but...
You can define the 'n' button to do something that doesn't offend you and set your screen to sleep after a very brief moment (15 seconds).
Why do you want to change the hardward button behavior?

Hi, thanks for answering. The reason for this request is because the screen keeps waking up as it moves around in my bag. Just lightly pushing on the case/cover I use will activate the button and leave the screen on until the timeout. I am surprised this isn't an issue for more people (or perhaps people aren't noticing their nook turning on.)
Lowering the timeout is not going to work since I do a lot of reading and having to tap the screen every 15 seconds would be a pain. Unless anyone has figured out how to get screebl to work??
You can completely disable the "N" button by editing the keyboard layout file. Using Root Explorer (paid app - but WELL worth it!) or equivalent, navigate to SYSTEM>USR>KEYLAYOUT then click the button at the top to "Mount R/W", now long-press the file "qwerty.kl" and choose "Open in Text Editor". Then find the following line:
Code:
key 102 HOME WAKE
and simply add a # to the beginning of that line so that it looks like this:
Code:
#key 102 HOME WAKE
Now press your MENU button and choose "Save & Exit". You'll need to reboot the Nook for the change to take effect.
Now your N button should be completely disabled. Just make sure you have the soft keys set up with a home button so you'll have a way to use that functionality when needed.
If you want to maintain the functionality of the "N" button but just prevent it from waking the Nook, simply remove the word WAKE from that line and don't insert the # character. I haven't tried this implementation, but it should work fine.
If you did what jason suggest, make sure you not hide the status bar.
You can change the "unhide" button to something else in Tablet Tweaks or you can use the long-press Power menu option which is also in Tablet Tweaks.
911jason - thanks for that.
Running CM7.0.3 from sdcard, used Root Explorer to find and edit the keyboard layout file.
Simply removed WAKE from the home button as suggested.
Works beautifully. Doesn't wake the device, yet does all the other stuff it's supposed to.
Score one victory for increased battery life for shared knowledge.
I have a soft case and it gets turned on in my pocket.
I went ahead and also removed WAKE from the volume up and down buttons.
Now the only way to wake the screen is the power button. The way my case is, that's the one button that won't get pressed in daily travel.
(don't know if reboot is necessary, but i'd assume so, and did after each change before testing)
Thanks!

I also took WAKE off the volume keys, because I tend to reach into my bag and adjust the volume while walking or waiting for the train. My buttons don't tend to get pressed, since my bag is for a netbook and my uncased NC doesn't rattle around. However, after adjusting the volume, the screen was live and the bag and its contents sometimes made random touches all over the screen...
The volume buttons now work exactly the way I want! Thanks for the very clueful answer to this question!
Of course, now I have another thing to do every time I update my ROM. I should learn how to make update scripts!
I am curious why HOME has WAKE and not WAKE_DROPPED, when it appears to behave like WAKE_DROPPED.
From what I understand, WAKE_DROPPED causes the device to wake from sleep but does not send the command normally associated with the button that was pressed. WAKE will wake from sleep and also send the command after doing so.

Exactly so. HOME acts like WAKE_DROPPED, doesn't it? But it's marked WAKE.
Actually, yes, you're right... just realized that. Not sure why it's behaving that way.
