ZapX rom issue... - Droid X General

I've had the ZapX rom for a couple weeks and its been the best for me so far IMO but in the last few days it has been rebooting when I unlock the phone. Anyone had the same issue and is there a better ROM anyone suggests? I have used just about all of them except Rubix and whatever the other newer ones are...

Im sorry you are having that issue..however, i dont think its the rom. It has ran flawless for me for two and half weeks. Just waitng on RC2

I am running APEX by Fabolous and it is blazing fast. One of the perks is that He has already created the NEXTHEME for it. If theming is your thing, you may want to consider this one. Going on two weeks and absolutely no issues.

I've been experiencing this issue as well, but I notice it has to do with Launcher Pro's auto rotation. It seems when I unlock the phone, if LP is stuck in Landscape, and I try to shake it to make it realize it is in Portrait, it will crash sometimes.
I've disabled auto-rotate on my dialer and Launcher Pro, hasn't crashed yet... but I only did this Monday so more testing needs to be done.

Sorry to bump this up, but I'm at the point with this ROM where I'm rebooting once a day, only after unlocking the phone.

Anyone with a rooted Nexus NOT installed Froyo?

So seeing as the Nexus One forum has now become the unofficial "Froyo Forum", I just wondered if anyone has resisted the urge to flash the recently leaked update and their reasoning behind it?
I have yet to upgrade simply because I prefer to wait and observe what bugs and annoyances are found, and also due to the fact that i'm happy with my setup (HTC IME mod, Launcher mod, Desire camera etc..). I'm happy to wait another few weeks for an MCR/Cyan ROM based on Froyo even though i'm missing out on treats such as Flash beta!
So who else is still finshing their Eclair before moving on to the FroYo?
I am. I installed Froyo to try it out but it lasted about 15 minutes before I nandroid back to Eclair. I'll also wait for CM6.
I haven't either. I'll wait until they drop the code into aosp. What's out there now sounds like crap.
tried.. just went back to 5.0.7t3.. cant live w/o normal trackball notifications..
+despite jit and dozens of mflops old rom seems faster to me.. the launcher pro that is
+some more minor issues

Sitting on the fence

So here I sit, on the fence, with my rooted stock Epic.
Nothing has really substantiated the rumors of Froyo for the 21st, and that just makes me think it's not coming (and if SamsungJohn was going to finally say something substantial, a yea or nay would be a nice start).
But this is not a thread about the OTA.
I'm just thinking... if OTA is really imminent, then I'll just wait and let the devs work on it. But if it's not... then it's time to look at one of the available ROMs.
ViperRom 4.0.4 looks damn sweet... love the ViperWheel widget... but it was held up from its Monday release (are they waiting for source code drop too?). And there is Midnight and Nebula which I kinda like also.
I guess I could start the process of checking them out.
Or I could just sit here and wait. I'm going out of town this weekend and probably should leave things alone until I get back home.
Until then I ask anyone who is running those ROMs... would I lose Swype if I switch ROMs? I really like Swype...
I am stock/rooted, pretty much in the same situation. Will wait until the end of the month if no stock Froyo materializes will look into roms and modding a bit. I depend on my phone's functions all working for my business and would rather not take a chance that I will lose functionality by flashing to the Froyo leak.
i was waiting like you guys til the other week and i went to bonsai, and everything is working superbly.
I was getting sick of stock rom and 2.1, not being able to have hulu or flash as well as a few apps that are must have like Humans vs aliens as well as Andy-83.
Im now just waiting for the official source so it can be improved, but ive had no issues on bonsai and reccomend it, if you want something fast and clean..
give the latest midnight a shot it works really good just wipe 3x before loading and be happy. swype works for me just have to switch text imput method from gb to swype.
Soooo. Oh., before that... I am so glad I rooted and mod. I ran midnight ... and cut my teeth on the ext4 .... the cwm .... and after root and rom messed around with themes. After my ver of midnight got a few weeks old I switched to bonzai and I love it too... it just works. Wait a few ... but its worth it.
Btw ... will we have to wait a while for the new stock 2.2 to get rooted or... is once root always root? Curious.

VIPERrom 4.0.4 does look sweet. I'm currently running FRoZen 4.0.3, and it has been great. I highly recommend the VIPERroms. I be jonesin' for that 4.0.4 son!
I use Frankenstein.
Don't update.
There's too many bugs in dk28 which will make yu scramble for di18, but when you go back you will miss the little upgrades that did work so it'll be this constant struggle within.

ROM's
I spent last weekend loading up all of the different (read more popular) ROM's and the most stable and straight forward one to me was Nebula Seven Sisters. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863154
The developer made it a point of keeping a lot of the stock look and features while improving on what Froyo brought to the table. I did not have any real functional issues with Viper, Midnight or TrulyEpic, it just seemed that Nebula was trying to keep the experience closer to stock than the others.
Other people will say they like the modified skins, the launcher pro, the Viper wheel, etc. For them, that is the case. That is the great thing about the developers of the ROM's, they are doing this to cater to different crowds.
So really, there is no need to wait for Sprint or Samsung here, download Odin, grab some ROM's and have fun with your phone! All I can say is to make Clockwork backups often, it makes the process of going back to the ROM you liked two days ago so much easier!
Randy
could try the Syndicate Rom, for 2.1.... see how fast the 2.2.1 roms WILL be after source... but other than that, they are all stable from what I read, some people have a few issues, depends a lot on you though. If you have a ton of stuff to reinstall after a clean wipe, might as well wait out the weekend, not for an OTA, slim chance there... but just so you have time.... sometimes things take longer, you may go thru 5 roms before you find the one you like... etc.

DK28 is buggy but it is better than 2.1 by far. You really don't lose anything by going with one of the available ROMs right now. Presumably they will all have an update once the new version is sent out from Sprint (whether it be on the 21st or not). If you're running a custom 2.2 ROM, you'll just do a CWM backup, update to the newer version of whichever ROM you like, and then restore your data.
I went back and forth between Quantum and Bonsai ROM today. It takes no more than 10 minutes to fully swap ROMs. Just do it, you'll be glad you did. And if a new version of 2.2 comes out in the next 5 days, it will only take a few minutes (max) of your time to upgrade to it.

Is 7sisters smoother than bonsai?Im asking because I want minimal rom so I can add my own things to it.
Well, I've just flashed DK28 and CWM just finished converting to EXT4. It's party time.
Viper brings some great stuff to the table.
Nebula is stability first, which is important to me since my business and my phone are virtually inseparable.
I also like Midnight's BYOR modular format, keeping bloat to a minimum.
I'll have a fun time with this.

No need to odin, odin only if nothing else works!
In ur case pull out bettery, put it back in,hold power+vol down+camera to get back into cmw3 and try again.
This will save you some time.
Everyone should be warned of one MAJOR issue. If you use you phone for primary internet access anywhere you go; whether at home or at work or wherever. The tethering drops you no matter what you use at random. It is very frustrating and annoying. If it wasn't for this I'd be 100% satisfied with nebula already; but it isn't the rom's problem, it's with DK28. Some people use wireless tethering but I cannot with 2 different desktops I use my phone for internet connectivity.

Make sure you watch some of Randy Shear's videos on youtube if you're new at this. He very slowly goes through many of the basic steps in putting a new rom on your phone. If you skip a step you cause yourself triple work. Just take your time and watch a few of his video's and just put the rom on your want. His Viper Apoc 4.0.2 video is excellent.

1st post - had to start somewhere...

1st post, 1st android - LOVE this forum!!
So, I managed to figure out how to root several weeks ago, mainly so I could wifi tether. Been waiting (and waiting... and waiting...) on Sprint to put Froyo out. Toyed with the idea of doing it myself, based on several threads in the xda forums, but just couldn't quite pull the trigger.
Finally took the plunge last week & also flashed my first custom ROM, Syndicate Frozen. Had a couple of 'Oh $hit' moments, but made it through and very glad I did. The speed increase is amazing!
Getting ready to try midNIGHT next... just for kicks.
Just had to say I couldn't have done it without all the awesome help from this forum. Just hope I'm able to contribute, someday...
Cheers!
I remember that from when I got my first Android, the HTC Hero. Such good times.
I am running Syndicate, too. It's my favorite ROM. MidNIGHT is a second, the only reasons I don't use it is because he uses the beta swype in his ROM (meaning you have to renew it every so often), and his rom doesn't support 1x/3G icons like syndicate's does. Though, I must say, MidNIGHT is VERY, VERY stable and will probably not force close ANYTHING you run on it. In other words, MidNIGHT is what stock should've been.
Glad you took the plunge and did it. Its definitely worth it isn't it. On on the latest bonsai rom and its awesome. The.main difference with this rom is you don't have to wipe all your data before you flash.the rom. It backs up all your data and restores it when you flash the rom so you don't have.to start from scratch

Ptfmedic did an awesome job in creating the most flexible and stable (with the BYOR edition) Rom I have ever seen to date, even spawning from the old Windows Mobile 6.1 days... ahhh...
Not to mention the dude has a heart of gold. If you do decide to flash one of his roms, be sure to read some of his blogs and if you feel it stir inside you, help out his cause.
Welcome. This forum is very arousing.
Tried to flash midNight BYOR, after using Odin to get back to a stock with root & CWM, but for some reason it kept failing. Something about couldn't open the zip. Going to try to download the Standard version; maybe the BYOR was corrupted during download.

Yeah, I did take the time to read through a few of his blogs. The Broken Heart one was gripping - will definitely make me think twice the next time I'm approached. The man definitely has a heart of gold & the patience of a saint. And he still takes the time to make great Rom's from what I hear. I should know here in the next hour or so - multiupload is slower than...

Not to sound offensive or mean, but did you follow his instructions exactly as written on his Android Development page? When it comes to flashing roms (at least with the Epic) one minor mistake can be the difference between a perfect flash and a faulty one. I learned that the hard way -.-
Edit:
Oh and I forgot to mention, although it hasn't happened to me yet, i hear that bad flashes can occur; I.E., something went wrong in that instance alone, not necessarily the entire thing is debunk, but rather just that one time. Try it again and you might have better luck.
Cheers

Not sure why he did that either, but he's recently started using the stock swype we all paid for.
I have to second what you said. I came from a moment and the epic is a huge step up. I'm also running the syndicate rom as well and it sure is a speed demon. I am starting to get the hang of flashing now, though I probably go overboard when I do it. I usually end up flashing back to stock and then install cwm, then I go and flash the rom. This forum is outstanding too. The people here are (for the most part) intelligent and willing to help.

No offense taken at all. I'm definitely a noob, so I'd rather have someone point out the obvious than assume I knew what I was doing.
Tried it a couple ways. 1st time, I was already rooted with CW3.0.0.6 with flashed syndicate. Wiped davlic, cache, and user 3 times. Tried to install the BYOR version & got the error. 2nd time, I used Odin to get back to EB13 rooted with CW3, no other custom rom. Then tried install BYOR version again (after wiping 3x) and got same error.
Decided to Odin back again, EB13, root, CW3; wipe 3x & then installed the midNIGHT Standard & it worked like a charm. I've had bad file downloads from multiupload before, so I'm gonna pin the blame there for now.
Been exploring midNight this afternoon & like it so far. Figured I should give it a few days before I decide which to go with.

Back from training

Well XDA, I'm finally back from Air Force training. There seems to have been a lot happen in the last 30 days.
Can anyone point me to the best (least buggy/best looking) ROMs and themes? I've been looking at some but I haven't had a chance to read the reviews about the different ones cause the topics are too large.
I'm currently on 1.57 with the old (30 days ago) OC kernel from kholk. Preferably I want 2.3.4 instead of froyo.
Thanks all.

If you don't use bluetooth which will probably be fixed as soon as beta is released anyways, PLEASE TRY CM7!! The camera is weird but you can defiantly use it if you have to take a picture. It's when you close it you can't reopen it without restarting the phone. It has like a 20-25 second boot up (and no lag afterwards) so it's not a big deal. I would at least try it out.
If you know that won't work for you than try Kenneth's Alien rom. It's what I had before CM7 and I didn't mind it. Good luck.

New to the streak scene

Well I have had xda's, htc's, xperia's etc but not had the streak till now thought i would wait till they ironed out some bugs although mine has seemed to be slow and tonight had the first app forced to close. My question now is which rom do people recommend. for the htc desire i really liked lee driod, anything similar lol, Although i do like the dell staged widgets.
I am also new to the streak.
I tried Gingerstreak first, Gingerbread then Froyo.
Been using power rom for 2 days now and it's a very good rom.
Fast and stable.
Try them all, Stage can be installed on any anyway.
Dpi was too big and I didnt like the theme but those can be changed with ease.
hello. been a long time lurker in these forums and finally decided to take a plunge and become a poster in these forums.
installed gingerstreak 2.4.4 about two weeks ago without a hitch and it's working very well. i did however notice that I can't seem to be able to change the i/o scheduler settings for this rom. i've used different apps and scripts to do so. but it seems that the rom is "hard-wired" to the sio type of i/o scheduling and cannot be changed.
any suggestions will be wecomed. thanks.
seems like 2.4 would be a good one but just didn't want to jump into putting a custom rom on it when the original firmware works quite well, is there a solid way of getting a recoverable backup of the firmware that comes pre-installed, but am thinking of just plunging into putting a new rom on it tonight and seeing how it goes.

Most of the stock Tom's available from the wiki. It is easy to revert to a stock rom from any of the custom roms.
I got that kind of feeling its the first phone i have not just jumped into breaking, I have opted for coffebun and so far so good i kinda like how it boots with a duke nukem theme lol, also seems to clock pretty good will test the benchmark in a second though
benchmark provides the top spot so thats cool but have spotted a few apps force close which i was trying to avoid, but for how much quicker the phone is now it is over clocked it is spot on
