The Epic makes a little notification sound whenever it loses or re-gains cell service. This is very annoying. How can it be disabled without disabling ALL notification sounds?
Epic running stock DI18 ROM.
It is possible that this sound may actually be related to entering/exiting roaming mode rather than losing service altogether (can't tell). I noticed that Evo has a menu option to turn off the "Roam Guard Sound", but Epic does not.
I too would appreciate a way to disable this sound.
The Samsung Moment has the exact same signal tone. It's incredibly annoying when you're riding in a car with several other people and you have to explain to them why your phone makes random noises.

I've seen it only in QPST under Features/Alerts and uncheck "service area alert". I am not going to explain out how to use it or download it at this time though.
*bump*
Anyone know? This bleep wakes my wife and I up a couple of times every night unless we disable all notifications. In which case, I never hear about SMS's or emails! Ugh!

Hmmm, nobody's figured this one out? It has become more of an issue again, as Sprint has apparently lost a couple of towers out this way, and we now go from roaming to network all the time.
I'd like this too, although I use it now as a way to tell whether my GB randomly rebooted again, LOL!

i especially hate this when you are playing music in the car from your phone. Music stops, loud beep through speakers, resume music.. UGH!

Is there anyway to get incoming calls to "Speak incoming CallerID + Ring"? I use to have this option on my Verizon Phone but the EPIC only has an option to Speak incoming callerID or RING only. When I get an incoming call, I would like the phone to speak the callerID once then play the ringtone.
Settings -->Text-to-speech-->Speak incoming CallerID
Search for saymyname in the market
I tried that app and it was very buggy. Very inconsistent, caused ringtone to stop working, would not work properly. Uninstalled.
Any other apps out there?

I have a related problem.
When using this feature, if BT is connected, it routes the audio to the BT device, and doesn't "speak" via the internal speaker.
Unlike the ringer, which (correctly) rings ringtone through speaker, BT gets the stock ring sound built-in to the BT device. That's the way it's supposed to work.
Turn on the spoken caller-id with BT and the only way you know you have a call is if you are listening to your BT device (headset, in this case). I refuse to be one of those dweebs that walks around with my BT headset in my ear when I'm not talking on the phone.
Anyone know how to have this play through the speaker with BT connected?

That app is working perfectly on my Epic. I've even got it tweaked so that it says the name in between each ring. Maybe you didn't get into the settings enough. I had it on my EVO before the Epic and it worked well on it too.

Actually I did play with all the settings for about 2 days until I realized my phone randomly stopped playing ringtones and settings were changed to "silent" on its own. From the reviews, it seems that the updated software is more buggy than the previous versions.
I just wish our phone had an option to speak CallerID name + Ring. The DroidX has it by default.

My grandmother used to say "wish in one hand and poop in the other and see which one fills up first" God rest her soul...
I have seen saymyname change the ringer to silent before. All I did to fix it was change the ringer back to what it was previously in the phone's settings.
So far I've ben using Talking Caller ID and its been working okay except options are very limited unless paid version. But at least it seems very stable.

Hey.
I just got this phone, one thing I noticed when the phone is restarted and a call is made, there is a weird noise before you actually hear the tone......
I think it only happens when you reboot the phone....
Anyone know whats wrong?
Yea, problem most likely between the ears. There is no off hook tone.
I think it's white noise.

packet transfer sounds....... depending on where you are and how you are connecting to the network these residual sounds may or may not be buffered out, they do not affect over all performance once connection is made.......not on an issue but good ears to notice

I purchased the Note 8.0 last week and like everything about it. However, there is one annoying issue that I have yet to resolve. I get allot of notification alerts and when watching a video or listening to music, the incoming notification temporarily pauses the video and interrupts the audio. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how did you resolve?

This happens with my Samsung Galaxy phone too. My workaround was to turn off most notifications. Also, I use a sound profile app to turn off the notification sounds during the work day, and I don't notice that the muted notifications affect anything I am listening to. I don't know how else to "fix" it, but perhaps someone else will have a good idea.

Have you given the blocking mode a try, it has an option to supress notifications as well as calls and stuff.

I did try the blocking mode, but it bugs me that there's an icon showing that the blocking mode is on. I haven't found a way to turn that off. (Dang, I'm picky.)

Well as Lemmy once said/sang : You win some, lose some, it's all the same to me
It sounds similar to what it sounds like when a bluetooth speaker/headseat is too far away from the phone, like garbled, rapid drops in the audio. Moving the phone slightly away from the head (to activate the backlight), or turning it on with the on-off switch when on speakerphone, fixes the problem. But as soon as the light is off again, the problem tends to return.
I think the problem does not happen when on a HD call.

Did you see this thread? I have the same issue... I don't actually talk on the phone much so I haven't experimented with the audio FX. But it's worth a shot.
Thanks for that. I just tried disabling audio effects and we'll see if that solves it.
Nope, still has the same issue, and so does my brother's. It's not usable for me, really.
Yeah, didn't help me either. Some say turning off VoLTE resolves on call speaker audio issues. You could try that.
I turned it off, which I suspect will turn off hi-def audio in calls which, ironically, is the only kind of call audio that doesn't exhibit my issue So far it seems to be affecting 100% of the phones I know about. There must be more information about this somewhere! Otherwise I do like this phone.

Interesting. I really don't talk on the phone much. Also ironic. For me it seems to happen during LTE calls too. But I'm not certain. It's sporadic. I'll experiment more with it when I have time and post back here if anything I do makes a difference. You do likewise.
Same issue, I thought it was a T-Mobile issue or something. Only noticed it since VOLTE came out.

I turned off the option called "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode" (under "Cellular network settings") last night, and preliminary results are good -- I haven't heard any of the crackling sounds yet. It's probably too early to say this is the fix, though. Tomorrow I'll be on the phone for a few hours for conference calls and will report back.

Ha, yeah, I was afraid that was the fix. Lemme me know if it works long-term, if you don't mind. I like VoLTE, but that noise interface is irritating.
Every other phone I've had has flip to mute. Every time a customer calls me at the butt crack of dawn I'm reminded to ask about this but I never do. I looked everywhere, or so I think. Is it gone? Any alternative?

There is a new feature rolling out call flip to shhhh or something as part of something Google... Dunno when though
I'm sure there is also an app on the play store that would do that for you... And I'm positive you can do it with Tasker but it would require some setup that isn't super intuitive since Tasker does a bunch of things...
This has been baked into so many stock ROMS for years, I'm shocked this isn't in this one. I use tasker and have quite a few configs but I'd rather not have to rely on it for that. I'm not even sure which sensor i'd have to monitor to determine the unit was flipped over rather than just moved in my pocket while ringing.

Yes, missing that also.
Meh just setup proper quiet times via scheduled do not disturb. Takes care of those butt crack of dawn callers.

It isn't always during DND times. There are many times I'd just like to flip the phone. I can mute w/ the volume buttons but for some reason that does not send callers to VM and they just call again.
Dave
I think there is an app that will do this. I had this with the Moto x pure and I got twist for camera working for a time on the ph1via some app. The same app had a facedown silence mode if I recall. Problem is I can't remember what app it was.
Ok I think an app is what i need as I had 3 customers wake me up this AM. I'll google around.
Dave
I use AutomateIt Pro with accelerometer with two separate rules: one to mute on face down and one to unmute on face up; both with a 10% tolerance.

Thanks i tried a similar thing in tasker and I could only get it to vibrate. Audio silent never did anything. It seems since do not disturb is around that that silent feature doesn't work.
