Y5 - Battery Saver application breaks Android Wifi Tether - EVO 4G General

I wanted to let everyone know since I spent an evening trying to figure this out. My android wifi tether stopped working on my EVO 4G, when I would turn on the wifi access point it was say "Tethering started with errors. Please check the log files." Looking at the log files it says starting access-point failed. I was not sure what it was but after disabling the application Y5 Battery Saving my android wifi tether started working. This application was on the lifehacker blog as a lifehacker tip on 9/20/2010. So if anyone installed that and noticed their wifi tether stopped working, that would be the reason.

Big time bump!
After pulling my hair out trying to figure out that error I finally came across your post & within 2 seconds I was tethering. Now my wife & I don't need cellular plans for our IPADS.
Thank you!!!

problem solved tahnks
thanks. yes y5 seems to be the culprit but i dont know why. i like Y5 and i like wireless tethering as well. I might email developer to fix this problem

PDAnet? There's got to be a setting for that..or a way to keep the screen on.
i read that if you turn off the wifi on your laptop, the connection works better on pdanet.
i tried that, and ever since, i havent had any problems with it. the only problem is that now pdanet is now payware....
wifi tether doesnt work for me. i have a Rogers Dream rooted, installed wifi tether, and it just says "*(paraphrasing) unable to start tether"
Attn: Kevwo
Why the heck do you keep sending me Pm's when you have PMs locked out so I can't even fricking reply. I go to all the work to answer your question and then hit send only to get an error back saying Kevwo has Pm's Blocked.
" Admins" sorry for the rant, and OP, sorry for the thread hijack, its really hot and humid hear and this just took me from the edge of loosing my mind to jumping off the cliff and completely loosing it.
Well Kevwo, enough of your rant.
Here is the shortened version of what I typed up to reply to you.
I am not aware of any Apps to SD apps that work, I have installed several and nothing worked right. I guess we will have to wait till a real ROM can be flashed on the Dream, then we will have access to all the cool apps. Hell I can't even get WiFi tether to work and I needed it to work badly.
O/T Ramble
I am leaving on Friday to go Camping, I want to be able to get on line at the camp site, might even setup a live web cam feed for the site. (Its our Fiero Club Camping event)
lol sorry about that
i guess i should read the pop-ups
has anyone tried using an older version of wifi tether? instead of 1.51 i tried 0.97 and that seems tow ork

[Q] wont connect to android market or gmail

My wifes A7 wont connect to the android market place now keeps saying no connection but it will connect to websites and is connected to our wireless network. do i just have to update the market app? please help
Not sure if this is your problem too, but mine was doing that exact thing today. For me it turned out that if I got to an area of the house with a weak Wifi signal, it stilled showed connected to my network, with 1 or 2 bars, but would not connect to gmail or the market. It kept telling me to log in to my gmail account, when I already was. I walked to the other side of the house, near the wireless router, and everything started working again.
Apparently, there is a bit of a false indication going on there as far as having a "good" wireless data connection.
Yeah i thought that might been case but I was right by my router when still wouldn't connect.
I found out the problem was the system time was not correct and once I manually changed it, everything works fine.
Thanks for suggestion and help improve appreciate it.

I have never been able to access android market with my elocity a7.. have found apps from
various sources but would like android market too! Tried every suggestion, when trying to download app., says no phone associated? Oh, what to do... lots of bars, close to router, time has been set...thanks so much for your suggestions..please help!
what i did was go to this site tabletroms.com and look for A7 forum. there is a mod there by dexter that will enable the A7 to use the android market. it is version 1.42, just have to do a factory restore and install update from a micro sd card.

I am SO happy to have found this post. I have a Samsung Galaxy Wifi 5 which was behaving very oddly. It was part sync'ing, could access internet, but gmail said no connection (despite being able to access email), and picasa sync failed.
Then through various guesses I came across this thread, and everything worked after setting the time again.
I realise what happened was that the Gal Wifi was completely dead having flattened the battery totally by accident, so it lost its clock.
I imagine that when the apps talked to Google, there would have been a failure validating SSL certs or related, and it produced an error which wasn't being trapped and thus producing the meaningless "unknown" errors.

Wifi Dropping w/ Hotspots

I have an AT&T Galaxy tab running overcome 3.1 & and I'm having problems with the wifi just stopping despite the wifi showing as connected in the task bar. First I was using a Sprint ET4G as my hotspot and I thought that might be the culprit with the whole LOS thing, but it's doing the same on my Galaxy Nexus on VZW. It's really annoying because sometimes turning wifi on/off works but sometimes I have to reboot the whole device.
Does anyone have a fix? I don't really want to load a new ROM because I have everything set up the way I want it, but I just dropped the data plan for AT&T and it's important that I'm not pissing with the wifi connection as I'm driving down the interstate.
Thanks in advance!
This seems to be an issue with all tab's.
There is constant reports on the tab forums.
I'm currently testing a 3rd party wifi manager to see if it resolves the issue.
I can't post up any links yet but search wifi manager on the market.

Can't tether after ICS then factory reset

I'm not rooted and updated to ICS this morning. Brought my transformer to work with me since I was excited and was tethering to my phone via ad-hoc fine. I then decided to do a factory reset to clear up the tablet and do some optimization. Next thing you know I can no longer tether to my phone so now I'm stuck without wifi.
My tether network shows up in the available wifi list but when I try to connect it just saves the network but not connect. Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this?
There is no reason that a factory reset would block it from being able to connect to a ad hoc network. The only thing that I can think of is that you typed the password wrong but like I said there is no reason it shouldn't work.
I didn't set any encryption on the tether network, it's the only way I was able to get tethering working previously.
Interesting, maybe reboot your phone? Like I said, I really don't think a factory restore could do anything that would prevent this from happening.
I was worried about the tethering. The Prime guys lost it with ics and had to root to get it back.
Yes, I have tried restarting my phone a few times. I was originally using android-wifi-tether 3.1b11 but have also tried barnacle tether, both have the same results. I'm attempting another reset on the transformer now in case I screwed something up on setup. I backed up all my apps before resetting the first time so at least I can install them, but no network access.
Asus had previously fixed ad-hoc in the August OTA, but it looks like the new ICS OTA doesn't have that fix anymore. So, you might try bluetooth pan networking instead. I don't think any amount of factory resets will get your ad-hoc wifi back without actually reverting to a pre ICS install.
I was able to find a wifi tether profile that allowed me to put my phone into AP mode so it's now working without ad-hoc. Thanks for trying to help

Dude, PdaNet has a (new) version for ICS for free. It does bluetooth and more. You might want to check out.
Just fired up wireless tether, connected to it and browsed the web with no problems.

I came from Revolver. After the ICS update my tether had no issues. I use the app WiFi Tether.
The only thing I noticed is that ICS does not gracefully disconnect after I shut tether off. In fact, the wireless rings for signal indicator grey out but are all still present. After a while, I turned the tether app back on and had to dicsonnect/reconnect wifi on the tab. There was a message like something about "continued poor signal". After the standard off/on of wifi all was good.
Thanks, thats what I was using but I had a really old version. I guess I should update my apps more.

Warning: HotSpot issue after VoLTE Update

I know some people only use Hotspot here and there or not at all, but I use HotSpot every day for my Android Car Tablet, so I noticed right away after taking the update that HotSpot stopped working. HotSpot is initiated and shows a WiFi HotSpot. Devices can connect to the WiFi Hotspot connection, but no data is transferred to/from the devices. Eventually my tablet will say "This Wifi has poor internet connection. Please connect to a different Wifi."
I've done research online and spoken to Verizon's Top Tier tech folk. There's not a fix, but a horrible workaround - You start hotspot, open it's settings, change the Name of your hotspot and the password, save it, then stop hotspot. Some say then power off/on your phone. Others say you can skip that step. At any rate after that the hotspot will work but likely only once or twice or maybe a few times, but eventually it'll stop working again.
The Verizon Tech gurus said the issue is on the hot list to get fixed because they have received numerous complaints, but it could be several weeks before an update that fixes the issue. Anyway, until there is a fix, if you use hotspot and haven't taken the update, you might want to wait.

Mine worked fine yesterday without any issue.
That is with VoLTE enabled.
Edit: Maybe not. I must have turned it off prior and forgotten about it.
Edit Edit: Interesting, now it doesn't work at all.
Dude, you jinxed me
Haha - nope, it was bound to happen. It's just sporadic as far as how long it takes before it stops working.
I was going to get around posting a thread about it.. but, I tried my hotspot the other day and it didn't work. Windows told me "limited connection".. which is usually DNS related, but even setting manual DNS servers, it didn't work.
Anyone try any 3rd party hotspot apps? I used to use OpenGarden, but haven't given it a shot yet.

Verizon can likely fix it on their end. Pretty sure its network related.
I am probably wrong though.
I have VoLTE on, and I used hotspot last night when Comcast crapped out on me, and again today at work without any problems.

mine also works fine with VOLTE on. I used it for hours over the weekend
