I would like to try
928DroidBlackGlassX-DroidX-OTA2315-DeOdexEERR-THEME.zip
or
928DroidBlackGlassX-DroidX-DeOdexed-OTA2315-THEME.zip
1. What is the difference between both?
2. You need to be Deodexed to install themes?
3. What is the easiest way to do this? If I need to use adb what are the steps.
Thanks in advance.
Nevermind I got it, I went with 928DroidBlackGlassX-DroidX-OTA2315-DeOdexEERR-THEME.zip hoping all that meant was that it was the latest release and I wouldnt brick my Dx. So far so good.

Now what?
Please recommend some themes I can try?
I'm not 100% understanding how if the bootloader is locked, you can still install roms onto the Dx? A little confused. Can someone clarify and recommend things to try?

ROM Manager from Market for free, to install ROMs.
Questions? Ask, we're pretty helpful here
Thanks I'm already rooted .
Oh yea, forgot about clockwork lol.
What do you mean install roms? This is what I dont get, I thought the bootloader was locked and you cant install custom roms etc?

You can install roms WITHOUT the kernel. They did not lock down the SYSTEM files.
Birdman found a very low level exploit to BYPASS the bootloader (hence Rom Manager & Clockwork). So we can get around it to install system files and what not.. but no deeper than that. The bootloader is still locked.
I'm about to root my Evo, the first android phone I have ever attempted to root. I have no idea what I am doing, and woud appreciate some advice. I'm planning to use unrevoked. I"m hoping you can analyze the steps I hope to make and help me through it. I'll even tell you what I want in the end
Tell me if I'm doing this correctly:
1. Install Unrevoked 3
2. Install Unrevoked Infinity
3. Find a custom rom somewhere (I just want a vanilla rom)
4. Be done?
Is this correct? Where do i find a rom btw? I can't wait to get away from sense, I want stock android now!
Moved in EVO 4G General.
try cyanogen

Simple:

Just make sure you load a different ROM up afterwards as a stock rooted ROM isn't usually stable and will usually give you random Force Closes on different apps. I recommend Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo or Cyanogenmod 6 personally. Both are faster and very stable. There's a few Vanilla ROMS under the EVO themes section.
help rooting
I am a first time rooter, and I need simple instructions as a "how-to" guide to rooting. Can anyone walk me through step by step? Just explain it like u would to an idiot. Also, what are the benefits of rooting, and is it un-doable? Thanks!

If you are already rooted, first I recommend install Koush's bootstrap recovery. This allows you to backup/restore your phone. A warning with this if you are new: Don't bounce back and forth between ROM's that are made for different android versions. For example, if you are on 2.2, don't try to apply a ROM for 2.1 as it will brick your phone due to a difference in the bootloader.
After you have installed Koush's bootstrap recovery, IMMEDIATELY make a backup. Then archive this off to your computer for safe keeping. This will be your saving grace if your phone gets messed up a little, and you want to go back to how it was as of right now.
Once you have that installed, you can install ROM manager, as this usually has the most recent releases (for the general public). I recommend that you do some searching on the forums here under Droid X themes and Droid X development and take a look at the threads for the different ROMs/Themes so you can get a feel for what they look like. Often reading through the posts also will help you get a feel, as people will usually provide their feedback.
A note if you are not familiar with flashing Themes/ROMs. This can be dangerous if you don't follow the instructions for each specific theme or ROM.
Sorry if this reply has seemed daunting by any means. I just have run into a few bumps myself as when I started messing around, I didn't know what I needed backups of...
Hope this helps! PM me if you need specific questions answered! Otherwise I'll try to check back
As for the different lock screens... I would look into Widgetlocker. It allows you to create shortcuts on your lock screen and use it a little more than the default lock screen from android.
How do you install updates to roms? I want to install gummyjar 1.9 but then there is also an 1.9.1 update. I know how to flash the rom but am not sure about the update. Is it just the same through clockwork, install from sd?

Usually you want to refer to the original post for the ROM and download the update from there. They will usually have steps to install the update.
well i followed the perm root instructions and im pretty sure im rooted.. anyway to make sure?
and also, since im new to all this i have a few questions.
first, at the end of the perm root instructions after u do all that rooting stuff it says something about recovery.. what is recovery and do i have to do that? is it recommended? and how do i go about doing that?
and also what is the best and most stable rom out now?
well thats it for now. please help and thanks!
by the way. sorry for the noob-ish questions lol
Most of the roms are in the same place. They're either based on HTC Sense and fully functioning or based on pure google AOSP code and missing a few still.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Speedy for a list
I'm using "AwesomeRom" based on the stock htc code but with sense things removed.
Recovery is the app that runs pre-boot time that lets you choose a rom.
Steps on how to install it are in the second post here:

Hey XDA,
I have never modded or installed a custom ROM ever before. I would like to install the Pixel Experience ROM. But before that, I would like to know how to go about it.
I understand that this question has been answered in some thread replies, but being a first timer, I really don't want to end up with a bricked phone and no way to recover.
Not a detailed tutorial, just concise steps will do, and also, I have some questions:
After installing the ROM, will payment methods like Google Pay (Tez) and PayTM work?
Will I be able to go back to the exact state as my device was when I first received it?
Will I lose my Device Serial Number/IMEI and other stuff?
I know I am asking a lot, but I really need some pointers and I will be really grateful.
Thanks a lot!
