After seeing the progress made so far for the htc evo and the motorola droid I was wondering if there has been any work on getting MIUI ported to any galaxy s phones?
Haven't heard of anything yet. The EVO version still has so many broken features (including 4G) so I think it will be a while before MIUI is actually a viable rom to use. I can't live without the core phone features....
Because I don't live in a 4g coverage area that part of functionality isn't really a problem for me. I know cm6 is in the works but as much as I do like asop I would prefer the functional eye candy that MIUI has.

its more then just 4g broken...
its no MMS receive, no camera/camcorder functionality and no front camera support... as well thats a huge deal breaker
I'm an evo owner and i am running the miui. We got logcat and we fixed just about everything, the only things not working are front camera, kinda working with some bugs, and 4g is not working.
If the epic gets a port i might consider the switch in phones. Not sure yet. But things are going well on the evo side.
Bump for the coolest built from the ground up UI I've seen yet.
Youtube Vid
On miui-dev.com the main Dev n_i_x offered to port to the Galaxy S (fascinate) if people can manage to get him the phone.
I've offered to port to this device multiple times.. I just need a device. Make it happen and I'll start working on it as soon as I have a device on hand.

Currently on an EVO 4g trying to decide if I want the Evo 3d, Moto Photon, NS4G, or stay on my Evo 4g and wait to see if the next Nexus comes in the upcoming months to Sprint.
My question to the members here, what is the NS4G community base like? Man NS4g users and devs out there? My hesitation is that the phone may have been passed up by many for the upcoming "super phones" resulting in less of a community = less community dev work for the device.
Thank you
For the nexus s 4 g we got miui and cm7. There are also some cm7/aosp based roms as well. We also got Trinity kernel and also netarchy. Honestly we got all the big names it just may seem like we have a little amount of roms. As for if you should get it, it's all up to you. I for one will only use a nexus product, I'm too attached to aosp to go use sense or touchwiz. But I heard the sgs2 might be coming out soon, that device is wow.

Seems like there is a great community here. If you coming from a EVO 4g you might want to stick with another phone like EVO 3D. The Nexus S 4G comes very bland. However you can customize it very easy. You have to be better than a advanced user to stick the NEXUS S 4G. As far as something like touchwiz, there is a mod.. Touchwiz needs alot of work to be done to have it completely ported over. People in this community seem more concerned with other things and have a bad taste for something like touchwiz.

Thank you for the replies, they have helped but still not sure which way I am going to go.
Been looking at the benchmarks and see they are fairly even, some say the adreno is better, others say the 540 is better.
I had horrible luck with CM7 on my original Evo, while other AOSP roms ran like a dream. Leads me to wonder how AOSP will be on the 3d. But with Ice cream comes dual core support and I would assume the 3d at that point would pull ahead of the NS4g in performance, making it more future proof for me over the next 2 years.
Anyways, thank you for the responses.
Is the miui bugfree for the nexus s 4g yet? Ive still yet to root my phone lol, been waiting on miui to be stable...

MIUI, Salvage Mod, Ultimate Droid, and VaelPak AOSP preview were the most stable AOSP roms I ran on my Evo.
Now, each have their own issues, but they were stable and responsive. One thing that seems to be a mess across all of them is a less than stellar wifi signal compared to when running Sense, yet another thing that makes me worried about going with eh 3d, it's horribly annoying on the Evo 4g.
How "future proof" would you say the NS4G is? Will hardware acceleration keep the phone capable for another 2 years yet? I also want to check out the 3d screen in sunlight, huge geocacher and the Evo was terrible in sunlight.

Can't speak for the Evo 3D but the NS4G is nothing short of fantastic in sunlight... YMMV though.
The NS4G will have more developer support most likely, performance isn't going to leave you hanging, however the Evo3D does win the specs war.
Future proof in what way? The hardware is going to be capable for years to come I imagine... software wise a Nexus phone is the definition of future proof. You will be getting updates directly from Google, likely for a very long time to come.
The Evo3D has more bells and whistles, while the NS is more of a enthusiasts phone for those that want pure Android, the latest updates, a large development scene, etc. Gotta pick your poison from there.
And honastly there alot orf "CUSTOM" sense roms for the evo that have the alot of the same tweaks with just different themes already mixed in. But to not to discredit anyone i cant make hide or hair of software

I had a SF when they first came out and was really impressed with the SF. Nothing out of the ordinary, just the normal bugs and things people complained about. Then I purchased the HTC TB. Also very good phone, but the lack of support from HTC/VZW and other things, just ready to move to another phone. I miss my SF. Would anybody or has anybody switched backto the SF from a 4g phone? For me personally, 4G isn't that big of a deal. I just would like to have the same apps from my HTC TB on the SF. (Hulu, Netflix, and etc.).
Would you switch back to the SF?
Thanks in advance for your opinion.
We have official Netflix support now if that helps you
I really like my phone, with MIUI and CM7 it is a very great device but the Thunderbolt does have better hardware. Not sure about its development though.

Well, the Fascinate has better performance with games, thanks to its Hummingbird processor, but in other areas the Thunderbolt does have better hardware.
So I found a Nexus S 4g on the cheap($100), bought it and deactivated my EVO. Now I'm having second thoughts.
Basically I'm not that impressed with the Nexus, however at this point I'm definitely hooked on ICS. I had ICS on my EVO for a little bit but it was still too buggy and I "upgraded" devices to one still supported by its manufacturer.
I know we're picking between 2 old phones here, but my upgrade isn't until January and I need something to hold me over until then. Basically I want some opinions:
Should I keep the EVO in the hopes that we soon have working HWA for ICS (and refund the Nexus)? Or do I keep the Nexus and ride that into my upgrade?
Which ICS roms did you try? The ICS roms for Evo are coming along at incredible speed. Getting very stable and customizable. I've been running only ICS since christmas-ish.

The evo has an ICS rom that has hwa. One found here
I know that the Nexus S 4g has an OTA for ICS. It would have wimax working if you need that.
It depends on if you want a big screen without 4g (Evo) or a small screen with 4g (Nexus S).
I'd go with the big screen/no 4g because sprint's 4g isn't that good right now.

How's the MMS? I'll flash it right now and check it out...haven't flashed Deck's since pre-beta 5 or so. Also camcorder is an issue but if it's even possible to get it working I'll stick with the EVO. Kinda sick of crappy Samsung GPS and that tiny ass screen at this point.
MMS send and receive is good on drews. I don't believe its working yet on decks (well, at least the receive part). AOKP (which doesn't have full HWA yet, but nonetheless is plenty snappy), does also have MMS send and receive, and working video.
There is a HAL wrapper that I've read works for the full HWA releases (deck, drew, mazwoz) but I've seen very mixed results of it working for some reason. Seems most say it causes bootloop. As for full HWA VS AOKP,...I don't realize any speed difference, really. Only difference is some apps won't work without full HWA (Chrome browser beta, in particular).
Hope this helps.
Also, I haven't tried gummy ICS ROM yet, but from what I've read, it's got most everything working. Dunno about its HWA status, however.
Edit: if PB5 was last you tried, ICS on evo has come a long way.

Thanks everyone. I reactivated my EVO last night and I don't think I'm going back until I get my upgrade. You all saved me $100. Awesome.
After switching to a few other devices like the evo then the evo 3d and hating both of them I decided to reactivate my old epic. I plan on putting a JB rom onto it and using it until I decide what newer phone I want. (was thinking galaxy nexus) Anyhow I am looking forward to bringing my epic back to life with a new JB rom. I want to thank all the devs for their hard work and generosity. If anyone has any recommendations for a great rom please feel free.

not sure how long U been gone , but we've got a team of young guns who have been bringing us some nice goodies over the past month or so ..... try 'em all out and see which works best 4 U ... ( PACman / BakedBeans 9 / SlimBean / Xylon / JellyBeer / The Collective and our usual CM10 / AOKP / TPR and a couple of others , just go to the Development Threads )

Interesting. I still have my Epic 4G (activated on Page+). But for the last couple of years it took a back seat while I went thru (and still have) a Nexus s and a Nexus 4. I also got an older Droid Pro which I rooted etc. But, I kept playing with the Epic and I find that it does everything I need it to do. It is the correct size for me, it fits well in my hand (unlike the Nexus 4 which really is tooo big for me but great for web cruising). I don't know if I will get another Android device until my present ones are all used up. Of course I am a phone fanatic and have a collection of Blackberries that are awesome too. I have Miui and Marmite on both my Epic and Nexus S and my Epic is a lot smoother and seems to be real world speed faster than my Nexus S. The Epic 4G, although older, is still a good phone and there is lots of support on XDA for it. Good luck in your future choices.
The tw based jb roms are pretty good too. Smooth. Especially with the custom kernels being developed from source.

Booted up my old Epic after upgrading to the S3 months ago.
It hardly seems like an old phone with new roms! I love it! Physical keyboard FTW!
The only problem is the battery life sucks, even with a E4GT battery.
I am currently running nexus aosp. Its snappy and fun and fully functional minus bluetooth and Pic texts. I may be switching soon to something with full functionality. What happened to the bug sections in the rom threads?

I don't really know. Some threads have a bug section, some don't. Unjustified Dev doesn't have this phone, he just makes stuff for us and the Fascinate.

I think we should start a petition for Samsung to make a new 4" Epic 4G II with a great physical keyboard (and the awesome hard buttons on the side)
If I crank my phone out to 1.4ghz (usually keep it at 1.1ghz as the battery life is noticeably better) then I hang right with my friend's S3 but I don't have to deal with the annoying virtual keyboard obstructing any screen EVER (unless I choose to use swype for some quick messages). Seriously, it could be the gamegripper giving the edge but no virtual solution will ever satisfy me for emualted gameplay to even a regular physical keyboard. Tactile feel >>>>>>>>haptic.
I wish they'd make an S4 mini with keyboard that was 4". The Relay would be an ok sidegrade but I'd like a higher resolution screen if possible (and to keep the hardware navigation buttons since I use them VERY often).
TLDR: IMHO there's no other phone out there I'd rather have then my Epic at this time (Sprint)
Hey all,
I'm considering trying to go hard in the paint and make a port of sense from the HTC Droid DNA (Butterfly) to the Nexus 4. However, I'm not entirely sure it's possible. I believe the chipset is a match I'm just concerned with a few other hurdles.
I'm not very experienced in the world of Android development, so I ask those of you with much more knowledge. Aside from the sheer amount of work that would need to be done, is this even a reachable goal?
I mean, anything is possible. Ive seen older versions of sense be ported to the Nexus S, and there was a build of sense 4 on the Galaxy Nexus that never really got past just booting. It surely wouldnt be an easy task, or somebody would have done it by now. Good Luck dude.
I have a copy of a 4.2.2 Sense 5 leak that needs heavy development. I'm not concerned with the work needed, I just don't want to go through the trouble only to find that I'm limited by hardware. Which again, I don't believe will be a problem since they both run the same processor and chipset.
Reachable goal? Probably. Worth it? Probably not. Will anyone do it? Probably, but they'll stop halfway.
I would be interested, on my former Desire HD I liked to switch between aosp and sense, to everytime get the feeling I got a new phone when I changed roms

Anything is possible! Yes there are people who hates Sense but having different choices are always nice.
I think the hardest part is to resize all elements from your copy of Sense 5 rom because screen resolution between n4 and Droid DNA is different. I remembered back in the days when ppl were trying to port Sense 3.5 (qHD) to WVGA screen HTC Phone (Desire HD/Desire Z etc), they had lot of problems...
Nonetheless, good luck! (Well I should've be more positive....)

That and the Radio, Camera, and audio. The Radio will most likely be broken if you port from the HTC DNA due to the CDMA network, while the 4G side might work. The Camera will almost definitely be broken due to HTC's tweaks to it, as well as their Image Sense Chip in the phone. The Audio will most likely be broken due to there being TWO amplifiers in the HTC phone, and some hardware differences in these chipsets due to Beats Audio.
I will say however, that if you managed to get this working, I would definitely run it.
Best of luck,
Connor Baker

The reason most ports stop half way is that Sense needs HTC drivers, libs and framework. Without them things like data, camera and others will never work. Many of the greatest Devs here have tried getting it working but they can only get soo far.

This was an issue back when the MyTouch 4g was first getting ICS. There were camera drivers that had to be rewritten as well for that device. I'm fully aware of some driver rewrites that need to happen. I promise nothing other than to be persistent and determined.
I used to be a diehard HTC guy, made the jump to the nexus and love it but I miss having the option of Sense. I hope you have a decent amount of success in this endeavor.
