error while making a yaffs2 image of /system/

I rooted and installed CM7 on my SGS i9000B about 1 month ago. Everything was going fine and I was in love with my phone.
This afternoon, suddenly and with no apparent reason, it started giving me infinite "Force Close" messages to all apps I tried to open, making the phone pretty useless. Whe this happened I tried repairing permission from within Rom Maanger but the problem persisted. So I booted in recovery mode (Clockwork Mod Recovery) and tried fixing permissions there, but force closing problem was still there.
I had an Nand backup from the day I installed CM7. So I went to recovery mode again and tried restoring the backup, but it gave me an error (I believe it was somwthing related to disk space, but I'm not sure about that). So I did another backup (just in case) and tried to reboot the phone to try restoring backup again.
The problem is, now I can't get to recovery mode again. When I rebooted I was not able to go back to recovery mode anymore. I am still able to get to Download mode though. So I was thinking about flashing some rom/bootloader or something back in from Odin, but as I have no experience doing this, I believe it's safer to ask for help here before doing anything to the phone.
I believe it's not bricked yet, since I can still get to download mode.
Can anyone give me some detailed info about what I should do?
Do flash Kernel one more and,
Do root again and try that working.
If it happend again, wipe dalvik-cache and after your device is rebooted, try again in CWM.

Sorry but I have very little experience with this and I want to be sure about what I'm supposed to do. What do you mean by flash kernel again? Is it flashing CyanogenMod 7 again via Odin?
I flashed the kernel again using Odin. Used the same file that I used before (when I fisrt rooted the phone a month ago - speedmod k13C). Now I can get into Recovery Mode.
But now I have a different problem. I tried to do a nandroid restore (backup and restore - restore ALL) but I have some errors related to mounting errors:
Code:
Checking MD5 sums...
Restoring system...
E:Can't mount /dev/block/st19 to /system with parameters auto llw.check=no
(File exists)
Error mounting /system/!
Skipping format...
E:Can't mount /dev/block/st19 to /system with parameters auto llw.check=no
(File exists)
Can't mount /system/!
I have no idea what that means.
Any help?
While searching for help on this error I found some people saying that flashing stock rom back intro phone could solve the problem. So this was what I did. Flashed stock samsung rom back i using Odin but when phone rebooted the following error appeared:
Android system recovery <3e>
Samsung Recovery Utils
- for BML -
[some recovery options]
update media, please wait
E:Can't mount /dev/block/st110
(Invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA:
So I have a very similar error - "can't mount /dev/block/SOMEFILE". It looks to me like a problem with the internal sd card. What do you guys think?
Solved
I could solve the problem using the method described in this thread.

Hello xda. Not a newbie, but i am suffering from a strange problem.
My Cwm recovery seems to have been corrupted after trying to flash CM7.2 rom. I can't restore my nandroid backups, & can't flash any other rom. My stock recovery too shows following errors:
last log/dev/block
E: can't mount cache,
E: can't mount system & bla bla...
Anyone knows any fix for this?????????
the best is to flash a firmware complete new with odin.
Follow the instructions on cm7 thread
once you flash percys kernel you will get mount errors
just format system data & cache in cwm as you need an ext system partition

no...can't wipe..
if you want to using cm7...you must format data...system..cache in recovery...then flash kernel and flash rom
else you go to download mode and flash stock rom with odin
goodluck

once you install the cm7 kernel you will get mount error because your file system is rfs
try to convert it with ext4 converter and that should by fix the mount error them flash the cm7 kernel and rom
Hey guys I really need some help
Yesterday I ran across a site on android pit on how to make the quick menu look like the s5 which involved modifying the build.prop
and decided to try the first post which involved editing the build.prop. I made a backup of the original and have that on my external sd card. I didn't like the mod so I copied the original one over the one I edited and now my phone won't boot. I've tried using odin but it fails everytime. I saw how to fix it with adb but the problem is when I boot into recovery mode I get 4 lines of red text
E:failed to mount /system (Invalid argument)
# MANUAL MODE #
E:failed to mount /system (Invalid argument)
can't mount '/system (Invalid argument)
E:failed to mount /system (Invalid argument
Luckily I backed up my phone night before last so all I'll lose is a days worth of texts. I really could use some help been really stressed out about. Is there a way I can get the internal storage to show up on my computer so I can just overwrite the corrupted one? please help!
Thanks in advance!
P.S. I can get into download and recovery mode with no issues
What ROM are you using? Is it on your sdcard/extsdcard? If you can get into recovery you should be able to dirty flash your ROM on top of it. It will replace the file. If it still doesnt work and Since you have a backup of your phone you should be able to wipe data/factory reset. Then once it boots up go back to recovery and flash your nandroid backup.
I was on stock 4.4.2?(whatever the most recent version is) NI1 that I had just flashed the NC1 the other day to enable towelroot and then flashed the NI1 kernel back and it was fine. It's not a nandroid backup, I had just copied the entire phone to a folder on my computer. Only issue is if it's not seeing the /system folder how would I copy over? and what do I need to flash a stock rom over my phone? I tried doing a factory wipe/reset but it didn't work
thanks again for your help

In the future always make a nandroid backup before you mess with build prop and other system files. At this point you'll have to use Odin
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Free mobile app
thanks for all your replies, I ended up going to the local att repair center and the guy used some Samsung software and was able to basically remove all files and reinstalled everything just fine. I just need to reinstall everything
Hello, I was trying to install ROM Arcatarc's EMUmIZERO SUPERLEGGERA. I installed TWRP v2.8.2.0, I did backup of all my data and system, wiped it and tried to install that ROM, but always got message "unable to mount /system". So I tried to restore my backup, but always ended with same message "unable to mount /system". I got this message when I do pretty much everything. Now I have no system and cannot use my phone. Please help.
Place it first with ROOTJOY restores. Then TWRP and play the backup back.
