I tried looking in the forum for any info on the status LED next to the speaker on the front side but I don't see any posts on this. Is this LED supposed to flash or do something? On my HD it has never worked? Is it supposed to work?
I remember on my Artemis it would flash green for good reception, blue for bluetooth and red if the battery was low.

I may be wrong but i was under the impresion that this was a sensor rather than a LED.
No, that's entirely correct, it is the light sensor. The LED is in the power button.
the status led is on the power button on the top right hand side of the blackstone...the place u highlighted is a sensor as what scotia has point out..
I think that it is a proximity sensor used to blank screen when you put the phone on your ear to talk.
It's actually the light sensor used for when you have automatic display brightness enabled. When it's dark, it turns down the brightness... And when it's a sunny day it cracks it up. I am not sure whether it's used to blank the screen during a call... This seems to happen after a period of time has elapsed.

ok thanks for the info.
So does the power LED on the top side flash any color to show the status of the reception or does it only light up orange when it charges?
Thanks.
doesn't do anything for reception..although mine flashes green hen I have a message/email/reminder
pity though, a decent LED to show such things was probably high on everyone's wishlist
No, the HD is perfectly unobtrusive. On my last PDA the LED had to be tweaked to stop flashing.
Too bad this isnt a LED diode Since I got on my Diamond a light notification (on the bottom of device)... when I recieved new sms... now on HD there is no way I can figure do I have new sms or notification unless I turn the screen on. The only hardware flaw by mine opinion
When its lying down, I agree with you. Then I have to turn on the screen. However when its lying next to me I'm usually not in a place were I can't use my phone, so the sound is on anyway.
I actually think its quite good the LED is on the top, it's easelly visible when the phone is in my pocket. I just have to pull the phone up a little and look down to see the LED (no need to get it out and turn the screen on). I like it on the top, nice and discreet, and not anoying me when I'm looking at the device while using it.
Perhaps a combination would be nice? Front and top That would sattisfy most people I guess...
I have a CDMA Hero from sprint in the US and am wondering if it has dual LED notification lights. I have read in lots of places that it does but am wondering if it actually has dual LED since my notifications only light up the left side. From the dash 3G I remember that the LED on the left was an LED and the one on the right side that looked like an LED was actually the light sensor. I also know that the Hero is supposed to have a light sensor. Just curious, thanks for any help.
::crosses fingers and hopes for Dual LED::
I think (I don't have a Hero yet, I'm just going off the online documentation for it), that the trackball acts as the second indicator "LED", but there isn't one on the right side of the earpiece, only the left. The trackball flashes when you have an incoming call or a notification.
sounds like it's the other way round from the GSM one then...the GSM has the LED on the right and the light sensor on the left.
no Dual LED's
I also have a sprint hero. The left led is the only one that flashes. It doesn't change color either. And the track ball does light up if u turn it on in the settings. As for the second led on the top right, it is definitely the light sensor. U can test it for yourself by putting your finger over it, and watch the screen dim.....
the one on the right is the light sensor.. cover it and it goes dim.

The LED on the left will change color and flashing pattern depending on your battery life and whether you have notifications or not. No notifications, no light (at least from what I've seen). If you're low on battery, the light goes yellow, and if you're within the 10-15 min boundary or less for battery life, light blinks red.
Thanks for all your help and I didnt realize that I had auto backlight disabled must have done that the first day I was messing with it all, I see now how the sensor reacts to having a finger over it. I would have enjoyed dual LEDs up top but oh well. Any way to customize the color of notifications, tried the handcent but it doesnt affect the LED at all or the trackball light for that matter. Going to try missed call or sms popup later to see if I can get some better results.

I read somewhere the flashing trackball doesn't work on our CDMA Hero
That would make sense since I can't seem to get my trackball to flash, what a bummer. Hopefully we can get root or a software fix soon.
T-Mobile DASH 3G Led Indicator Lights
I have a T-Mobile Dash 3G. The left LED light is NOT flashing, and I would prefer that it does. I upgraded to WM 6.5 and I think that is what disabled the LED since I have seen videos on youtube where the indicator does flash.
The LED does glow orange and green when i am charging though.
Err I think you may have the wrong forum. This is for the HTC Hero, which runs Android not WM. Why not try starting your own thread in the correct Forum as you are more likely to get an answer there?
Is it possible that my 4 buttons don't light up anymore? [back, menu, home and search] I just flashed the new Desire ROM and noticed that they aren't lit up. Not sure if it's the rom, or the hardware, or my eyes failing me but I believe that they aren't lit. Is this possible? are they on the same circuits and stuff as the screen?
Desire rom lights them up based on the light sensor. Put your finger over the sensor or go in a dark room and they'll light up.
I actually prefer it this way over the stock rom. It's a nice touch.
Was in a pitch black closet, but no dice. Thanks for your reply!
If you wish to turn them back on try LEDs Hack from the market. It might still be there.

I did a search, but couldn't find anything, so here goes...
When I'm watchinh a movie/video, I figured the button LED's (home/menu/back/search) would eventually turn off, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Is there a setting someplace that can disable those LED's after some amount of inactivity?
Thanks!
Justin
i was hoping for this too. there's program that works for the n1 and droid called LEDsHack. perhaps we could see if the dev can support the evo too. it allows you to turn the notification and menu leds on or off.
i would love this too as those stupid buttons bleed light onto my screen and it really looks like **** and bugs the hell out of me.
For some reason the notification LED doesn't function on my XL2. I installed LED Blinker Pro and it works like a charm. Just thought I would share incase anyone else is having this issue.
Settings, apps and notifications, notifications, blink light. It's off by default.
Now go get lightflow and go nuts.

I did that and it still didn't work. That app solved the problem though.
Have you used light manager? And if so which do you like better. Im using Light Manager but that app you showed looks more polished.
Also have you noticed this time around the phone has trouble making some colors. Like yellow looks kinda yellow/green and white is kinda blue/white
Light Flow works. But it seems that the built-in notification light triggers first overriding Light Flow. For example, if I get a text message (fast blue blinking light set in Light Flow), I get the slow, white stock notification. If I unlock and then immediately re-lock the phone Light Flow kicks in with the set blink/color settings. I've tried to disable the stock light notification, but if I do Light Flow won't work at all.

Light Flow didn't work well for me.
So is this just a software issue that could be addressed by Google in the future?

My 6p was the same way when I first got it.... But once they built in led notification into the settings of the roms I then got more cookies and very crisp distinct colors too..... Im sure the custom roms and kernel will fix this and the OLED panel color issues
Light Flow works perfectly for me.
Enable the light in system settings.
Disable it when there is an option in specific apps.
Make sure it has the right permissions.

I installed the New Pixel 2 XL Launcher on my OG Pixel XL. My light stopped after installing, so I had to go to the launcher settings (long press blank area on home screen, Home settings, Notification Dots, Blink Light) and turn on the light in there to get it going again.

Yep, that's how you get the LED to work. It's really wonky and idk why they buried the setting in that spot.

Right? I found it by accident, and wondered how many people will never find this setting.
