Dissapearing pictures - Droid X General

I have tried a bunch of different setups for my droid x and for some reason This is the third time I lost almost all my pictures. I was wounding if this happened to anyone else or if anyone knows what it might be causing it.

Losing pictures from your gallery? from your contacts? Are you just using the stock camera app? What types of setups?

I have had it happen, deleted about 95% of all my pics, and i had well over 300
I noticed it when I first started themeing, i think it was cause from the constant plugging in and un plugging of the usb cord. Sometimes i would tell it to go into charge only mode, but when i plugged it in again it would be in mass storage mode.
have you been doing that a lot?

ARGGGGGG!...it happend happened! (Pull out phone from pocket...its off!)

I am on my third Vibrant from Bell Mobility. I returned the first two because of the same problem. I would be using the phone like normal, and at random times I go to make a call or something, and notice that the phone is turned off! On my last 2, i couldn't turn it back on using the power button, so i would re-install the battery to get it working again (until it would happen again a day or two later).
Well, today it happened for the first time on my third vibrant (on the 2nd day after i had it). This time, i decided to hold the power button for about 10 seconds...and the phone restarted (didn't re-install battery like i used to).
What could be causing this? I thought it was a defect in the phone, but this is the third one to do it. It happens randomly (sometimes every 3rd day, sometimes everyday). Anyone know what it could be? Could the phone just be 'frozen' in sleep mode? (meaning the phone is still on, just the screen is frozen black)...or could the phone actually be off? Thanks in advance!
Have you done any mods to your phone? Rooted? Custom rom? If you're rooted, are you using SetCPU?
The only time that I had this happen to me was using SetCPU, after reading about it if you let it go down to 100mhz in sleep mode it shuts down? After restarting and not having SetCPU on boot, I have not had this happen again.... Hope that helps

Did u get a new battery every time or is it the same battery it might not be the phone but ur battery

Definitely odd occurance then.
My friend had the exact same issue with the Samsung Captivate. He is on his 2nd one, but the issue's started on the 3rd day. AT&T told him it was a battery issue, I guess they had a defective batch. Try to get them to swap a new battery from the store to see if that fixes the issue.
I have been using my vibrant non stop and not had a single issue. I guess its just bad luck on your part.
New battery everytime. Strange strange
Really weird...could be a combination of apps or a bad app...you tried without installing any apps yet

That is strange my wife has that phone and doesn't have any problems bad batch of phones maybe are u letting it fully charge when u get it

Do you have a task killer set on auto kill ? I have noticed when I raised my auto kill harshness sometimes it must have killed a fatal process. I lowered the harshness and it hasn't happened yet

This has happened to me. I'm pretty sure the phone is frozen in sleep mode. Not sure exactly what app caused it, but it only happened one other time. I've removed some apps I wasn't using and it hasn't happened since. Who knows which one was the culprit.
Had the same problem with my first Vibrant from Bell as well, they know about the issue and say they have no fix other than to swap the handset out for a new one. My second handset has been fine for a week now.
Let's compare apps
Some of us are having problems with our Captivate randomly shutting down also. AT&T technical support thinks it could be apps that we've installed. Could they be right? My replacement device didn't start shutting down again after 3-4 days of owning it. By that time, I have already installed some favorite apps. Here's my list. Let's compare and figure this out. It's just a theory. Can't hurt.
<<<< OMG! While typing this new thread to turn on my phone so I can see the list of apps I have installed, MY PHONE TURNED OFF ON ME! WHAT THE...!!! >>> Anyway...
Apps installed strictly from the Market, no apps sideloaded, device is stock:
-SMS Back Up and Restore
-Yahoo! Mail for Android
-Adobe Reader
-XDA-Developers
-Market History Manager
-Speedtest.net
-Google Maps

The ones we have in common are adobe reader and google maps. I installed adobe reader last night and it happened this morning for the first time. Could that be the culprit?

Anything is possible at this point
just to help, I will install adobe reader on my phone and see what happens, I have no issue what so ever, I do have google maps, so let's see what happens with adobe reader
I vote an app causing the problem.
Sorry guys, I have been having the same problem and the only app I have that is the same as that list is Google Maps... and I don't really think that is it.
But it is probably "app" related, in the sense that there is a cache issue or something possibly stock with the phone goes occasionally haywire. It is very random, has been very hard to find any pattern.
It was happening to me only when it was charging, but then yesterday it happened when it was not plugged in. Seems to roughly occur ever other day or so.
Does make the phone not so reliable as an alarm clock, as I recently discovered
Hard reset and don't install ****. Anything. Just let the phone stock for a few days if its fine, its a app.
I had a game called hero of Sparta that wigged my phone out bad. Had to delete that puppy.

My gallery keeps making doubles and triples of my pictures

My gallery keeps making doubles and triples of my pictures and it's extremely frustrating. The fix is moving them to the internal and back to the external but it will just do it again in a week or two. So basically, I don't wanna just keep putting a band aid on it. I wanna know why and how to fix it. Anyone else having this issue? Any help would be appreciated.
Mine does too. Ive seen as many as 6 copies of the same pics on Bionix
Download SGS Tools and run the clean_thumbs script and reboot, it should fix no problem
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Had this happen once, if you connect to your computer and use the SD as Storage Device and then turn off USB Storage it should rescan and correct itself.
Also note, if this does happen. Don't delete any pictures. Because when it does correct, you'll be missing more than what you deleted. I lost a bunch of pictures because I was deleting the duplicates..

Task Manager kills Live Wallpapers

So I am currently running the latest version of Fascinate Community ROM and whenever I do a "Level 2" ram clear whatever Live Wallpaper I'm using gets killed, resulting in a black screen behind my desktop.
I can although change to a different Live Wallpaper and go back and the original will work.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Am curious why you would be doing a lvl two cache clear enough that it would be a problem?
As am I. If you are using it to save battery life and attempt to fully close programs there are countless ways of doing this which are easier and better.
These is a reason it is killing your wallpaper..... you are telling it to.

Yes I am telling it too, but on my Mesmerize ROMs it restarted right away with my launcher.
The reason I do a level 2 ram clear is because level 1 doesn't close any applications. Plus, some apps run as services and I don't want to have to go into Services but to end them one by one.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
The problem with that is that those services just start back up. There are some that I think only load on boot. Why not just uninstall what you are trying to close instead. Wiping the cache isn't exactly a normal way of closing apps.
Think of ur phones memory as a chalk board.. ur phone write the programs down one by one.. till it fills up.. then it erases the least important app.. and writes over it.. u do a level 2 wipe.. its trying to write with both hands to catch back up, then most likely you hit home and it has to throw a 3rd hand it doesnt have to try to open ur launcher.. last thing it thinks of is ur walpaper. being its least important.. u shouldnt be doing wipes like that.. its not nessisary.. just close open programs if ur having problems.. actually hurts bat life more than it helps
I'm not saying I'm doing this very often but at times i have to.
For example, about half the time I unplug my headphone jack from whatever I'm using a random song starts playing. It will not stop, the music player doesn't show up as running and a level one clear doesn't stop it, level two does. The music will play behind anything else I do i.e. phone calls, other music, even during shutdown until it actually turns off.
Also, battery life isn't the reason I do it, I am currently only using about 43% battery medium use running unplug for 12-17 hours because of my undervolt settings. I understand the concept of clearing the cache, it's just as I stated there is a need from time to time and it's incredibly irritating to not have a live wallpaper after stopping the ghost music.
Also, as I said this (ghost music and live wallpaper problems) never occurred on my USCC Mesmerize ROMS only this VZW Fascinate ROM (Community ROM V1.2).

I'm not suggesting that it is the most likely possibility but it could be a physical problem with your 3.5 jack. A short in the jack can cause some funkyness playing songs and other audio. While back I had the og droid which suffered from this. If I moved the cord at all mp3s, podcast, pandora would all go crazy. Had to get a replacement. Since then I have tried to avoid ever plugging anything up to that jack when it is in my pocket. Bought a blue tooth to 3.5 adapter to protect it.
Again not saying that this is your problem, just that it is a possibility to be aware of. Concerning the issue with the music playing, not the wallpaper ofc.

Yea I think this is the problem, a buddy of mine still has the og droid and says the if he moves the jack around music will start and stop. I think it's partially hardware and software because android has the ability to pause when unplugged and to resume when plugged back in.
The live wallpaper problem is only a temporary problem until I get that fix. I think I'm gonna call samsung for a replacement under warranty because my screen also has burn in and that is covered as well.

So I decided the other day to take a look at the running services while the ghost music was playing and noticed Winamp was running and as soon as I stopped it the music stopped.
Update: I uninstalled Winamp and have used an 3.5mm jack for music unplugging and re-plugged in with no problems.

Charging Security

Is it possible for a computer that I plug my evo into to steal or view my data (pictures, contacts, messages, etc.)? Even if I tell it to charge only?
Thanks

I wouldn't think so. It would only show files if mass storage mode was enabled.

You just have to make sure like the other guy said that the phone is it charge only.
Some people run third party programs like kodak easyshare it if it detects a external drive like a flash drive or your phones SD card it will start grabing the pictures on your phone before you even know what's going on if you don't have to charge only selected on the phone itself
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I would say No but Yes.
Remember this, as long as that phone is connected via USB to the computer, its always going to be vulnerable to something, it just takes time and knowledge to figure a way to exploit things. If you don't trust the person who's in the keyboard: If there is motive there is always a way to get things done.
I'm not going to say that it would be easy or even possible, but in my 15 years of IT Security I've seen the impossible always be possible.

Keyboard lag, fast charging problem

Hi, Im using this phone for more than 2 months now, and it is pissing me off. I bought it because I tought I should not expect 1000$ phone to lag and I would not have any problems with it at all.
I'm losing nerves because texting app is lagging, especialy when using keyboard. It needs so long to show up(keyboard) and when I write something text usually needs up to 10 seconds to show up.
Also when I plug my phone in samsung fast charger I usually need to plug it in and out several times before it starts fast charging.
I really don't expect this from expensive phone like that... Is anyone experiencing something like that?
The fast charging bug is because of crappy cable. It's a known issue.
I have no issues at all with lag at all... I use SwiftKey as my keyboard...
/CK
No lag on keyboard. am using samsung keyboard.
charger work's fine.
just had my phone over a month now. so will see what happens after few months.
will keep my eyes peeled if anything happens and will report back if i have any problems.
but so far so good.
Have the same issue, have to plug and unplug the phone several times to get fast charge ... :/
I hate when someone texts me and it takes 10 seconds to show the content when I use messages app and then another 10 seconds to open keyboard. I'll try swift keyboard to see if it makes any changes. Really disappointed because it is known as one of the most powerful phones on market...
I also had the same problem with fast charge, just change the cable (not chager) and it will be fine.
The fast charge is NOT a software bug. It's because Samsung's cable is faulty (not the charger only the cable). Change the cable with another and problem solved. Happened to me I changed the cable and voila prob gone for good. If your keyboard lags try disabling Voice typing or use a different keyboard app like Google's stock keyboard app.

I figured out it is messages app which lags. Because it is almost same with SwiftKey, I don't know what is the problem so it takes more than 5 seconds to show me anything, because I don't have many apps just Fb, instagram, snapchat, etc. I do not have root and have disabled some apps so I don't think the problem is in low memory. I am really desperated
It's definitely not a memory problem because if it really was everyone should had it yet they don't. I have many apps installed a lover 100 and many of them running I'm background yet I have no lags or keyboard lag.
I think it happened because I had so much texts, yeah I know it is strange because it shouldn't be a problem, but when I deleted most of conversations which I belive is more than 10000 SMSes it started working much faster
I have the exact same issues as you and more. Got the Verizon S6 at launch time. Get lots of random lag and have tried cleaning cache, reformatting with only temporary success. I use Google messenger and have switched to stock Google keyboard and still get lag. I don't have many texts stored and usually delete them. When I get a mms incoming my phone slows to a crawl, its fixed after reboot and clearing cache for a day. I am lost what to do and don't want to go to warranty process and receive a refurbished phone since I paid for a new one.
I am really sorry for you, I also tried alot of things but nothing worked except for deleting smses, I also switched to Swiftkey and everything is working just fine.
