I finally got my droid x about 2 weeks ago after waiting almost a month on backorder.. Since i ordered it ive gotten an pneumonia lung infection as of saturday tonsilitis and fevers.. Plus two weeks in i got laid off so this hasent been the greateast of time. Ive been pretty out of it and yea.. anywho. I got this and first thing i did was Root via the "DroidX Root" with the Root Me and UnRoot Me " buttons. Ive owned a G1 and a Droid Eris prior to all this and loved em both. Rooted them gotten the recovery image's custom roms ect. With this im getting confused. I think its partially because ive been so ill and disoriented half the time. Also because of this efuse crap and what not. Yes ive googled and searched but again ive been fairly out of it so im still not certian what i should do here. I downloaded some apk file Recovery Bootstrap v1.0.0.3 that i was told i needed to get but again...
I want or at least i think i want to get to 2.2 im currently still on the 2.1 build it shiped with. i have *228'd it or changed the firmware in any way all ive done is rooted it.
Im having issued with the data connection. My browser seems to hang a good 50-60% of the time wether im on my wireless g connection at home or on 3g. Ill listen to slacker radio and often it stops for sometime and either wont resume playback until ive closed and re-opend it or just does it on its own.
Ive heard of people getting roms on it but others tell me there not "real".
Also its "fluid'ness speed" seems to be jotty at times. I havent hardly installed much on this and its slows down really bad at times.
Basicly i like modding my phone and really enjoy all the work people put out to fully give us the full capability's of these pieces of hardware we buy. But i dont feel like im getting that.
What other suggestions can you all give me to do to my phone, to speed it up back it up remove this crapware like dlna ect. I have seen some threads about doing this but then people telling me they get stuck at the boot logo cause they messed something up and i dont really wanna do that.
What have you done with your phones? How well do they run?
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and i look forward to everyone's reply

Sorry to hear about your problems. I just went through a week of hell before being diagnosed with pneumonia this June. So I know how it felt.
Basically, even though 2.2 OTA is available, if you mess up your phone while modding, there is no stock image to fall back to, so you'll be stuck with a bricked phone.
The best solution right now is to upgrade to original 2.2 leak. Then you can install leaked 2.3.15 which is the same as OTA (with a difference of being deodexed and rooted). In this case even if you have problems, you can always flash original 2.1 back and start from scratch.
rootzwiki has a good amount of info on how to do all of this. But of course feel free to ask questions.

Who's attention do we need to get to start getting some love for custom roms on the bravo? I'm wondering if it would be relatively easy to accomplish given the hardware inside is pretty similar to the droid 2 and droid x. I believe it's identical minus clock speeds. Anyway, I would like some stock froyo or gingerbread on this baby to see it really shine. Not to mention 1-1.2GHz.
Yes please. That would be awesome.
Yea....
You know, guys, you cant just sit here and ask for custom ROMs and just hope it pops up somewhere. You have to help too! Make a system dumb of your Bravo and upload it to Mega Upload or something to start off helping...then go around to people and ask someone, for intense on the Defy form because the phones are similar, if they'll take your dump (yea sounds bad LOL) and make some sort of custom recovery out of it. WE NEED PEOPLES HELP if we plan to make this phone AWESOME .
Well, I have no idea how to go about doing that, but would be more than willing to work with people to get the info they need to help them. I'll do some searching on how to get the dump unless you have a link that outlines that sort of thing.
From what I'm seeing people just grab the /system/ directory? I'm in droid explorer but it doesn't seem to allow me to copy it. hmmmm
Ditto, would love to help get some roms for this thing, just need to get me to the right path and I am all over it. Not much of a coder but willing to try.
Have already installed android sdk and Eclipse on my system, total noob to Android.
Have you found out anything on system dump? Probably good palce to start.
YEP!
That is why it's called a system dump! So yea I know I've had that problem too, where it won't let you copy the /system. I recommend the DroidExplorer program.

Works great for me, IDK if it'l work with the Bravo as good as my Flipout (busted my Bravo, but it's fixable with an SBF or a .ZIP) So anyways please let me know if that works so someone can start developing!
Link gave me server error will try it again later on.
Here's what I have found out so far;
Using Eclipse/ADT I can see my whole system from Eclipse Explorer and watch it as it's running. From here I can push and pull (adb) from here. I have would attach a screen shot but need to wait till I have such privileges.
I could start to actually make system changes from here, but that would be suicidal since I am still new at this.
What I would like to do is download, copy, maybe dd from terminal, not sure how to, my current device rom to an emulator so I can experiment with it (rather trash the emulator than my phone).
If anyone an help with this (haven't figured this out yet) would be of great help.
Also have not investigated yet but Motorola Clig, Shadow, XT800, Kobe (Bravo), Milestone, Droid 2, Droid Pro, and Defy are all OMAP 36XX processors so I am thinking roms from these could/maybe (use at own risk I AM NO EXPERT) work on the Bravo.
As soon as I figure out all the above I am still ignorant in (don't want to brick this phone) I will start experimenting with the roms.
Any help in these areas would be greatly appreciated as it would also be a major time saver, googling for what I have so (which isn't much far) has taken weeks.

Closer look Xt800 and Milestone are the closest w/the XT being the one which would appear to be be best choice. So later this evening will head over to XT posts and see what I can dig up, right now need to go sell some cookies with my daughter.

I would too, Im getting phone tomorrow and have a few rooting progams and droid explorer (wich I dont know how to use)
Maybe sum luck here
This phone will get 2.2 soon, trust me on this! Once it does, someone will grab an SBF (a stock 2.2 Bravo SBF) for this. I think a main reason for this phone not being developed on is because none of these files necessary exist. Hopefully when 2.2 is released some one WILL get a hold of it, an update.zip, an SBF...I think the'll all work. So yea, just some good news. Oh, and don't ask how I know, I KNOW.
someone might already have their hands on the 2.2 update.zip.
I found in the market an app called "android dump". Does anyone know if that will do what we need it to do? And what is the steps we need to follow to get some support for this device? Just upload to media fire? I will go ahead and do that when I get a chance and post back gere when I have done so. anyone with additional instructions ios greatly appreciated.
Already done!
Just uploaded system dump to mediafire. In case you want to know how, just run adb and do the command pull /system.
Oh, btw, heres the link!

BTW i already got jboogie (dev working on defy) and asked him if he had any chance of porting it to the Bravo by just making some minor changes. Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877058&page=92
without clockworkmod or something we cant even use roms, good thing i just saw this:

this guy is porting koush's work to the bravo!
he needs an sbf though, can we help him?!?!?!
also 2.2 is far imo, its not even on motorola's update roadmap.
It's in testing right now. 2.2 that is.

the man is correct. almost had my hands on it.
If you guys are that close to it then surely you can get an SBF of 2.1??? pretty please?
I am porting Clockworkmod using Koush's bootstrap recovery and am close to a working test but am not willing to test it on my gf's unit without an SBF at this point, she just got it and she bought it on ebay so i am not sure if she will have warranty issues with at&t (probably)
so without and sbf i am looking for someone who has perhaps cracked their screen and is getting an insurance replacement, you can test my work and if it bricks your phone then no one is out anything, it will be sbf'ed at the factory anyways. even a warranty replacement is fine, but there is a little risk but i have never had problems with that. they just sbf the things. not boot them up and look for root lol. plus you already voided your warranty if you want to be techincal when you rooted

I work at att. The bravo is less then a year old so your gf is covered even if it was purchased from ebay. If you brick it just do the exchange by mail safer then in store.
What does the exchange cost because I got mine free as an upgrade phone and unless you have insurance it's my understanding that once the thirty day warranty is over it's all on you.

It has a one year manufacture's warranty on it which will protect against manufacture defects which would cover software failure if they did not find out device is rooted.
With all of the issues with Sprint and their 'replacement' units I've had lately, I thought I would post a quick 1-2 punch to show an easy process that I used. This will work going from a NIB EVO (providing it has been rooted by the DEV's depending on the HBOOT...etc) or from fully rooted to wanting to go back to scratch (for whatever reason you may have). Usual searches will give you what you need, just thought I would put what I've done together. Just make sure you have an actual ROM running and DO NOT WIPE. Otherwise I've included the usb driver links below and an RUU so that you can install through HBOOT USB.

I know there are other threads out there that show you the way, just wanted to give my two cents and show what I've used to play and to send it back or start over. Can go ROOT-UNROOTED with minimal effort as of today...things will change as they always do!
I am just going to paste the links I've used in hopes that it will help in any way...if not...oh well, I tried. You should be able to figure out where you need to start..going forward or backwards depending on what you are wanting to do.
ROOT:

THANKS xHausx
Depending on what HBOOT you have, read through the first couple posts. You will also have options to root with and without a rooted ROM (Autoroot Quick). Depending on what version you have...it may need to use the Unrevoked Forever. The UNROOT link will also show you what to do if that occurs and if it does not. (Son/Soff)
UNROOT:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141
THANKS djR3Z
This link will give you the ability to unroot with a bit of ease. Just make sure if the ROOT direction needed the Unrevoked Forever applied. You will need to use the Unrevoked Forever Son. The UNROOT links will give you an older version of factory software and will require 3 upgrades if you want to get to the most current (as of today anyway). Unless they update the PC36IMG file to include a more up to date version. Depending on what Radio you have, you will need to make sure you are not above the below link. If so, you will need to flash this radio so that the script works. Otherwise it will give you an error saying wrong radio:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/2pjq2dhjv6ntxnh/EVO_Radio_2.15.00.11.19.zip
Just my way of doing things lately...mileage may very!
Oh yeah, and by doing any of these options breaks your precious, not my fault or the fault of the actual individuals who did the work
EDIT: Just rooted and unrooted for the second time this week...third EVO will be here in a couple days. Well that is if they actually ordered it this time (long boring story). Sitting stock is boring...but actually have to work tomorrow and won't have time to get rid of the fun stuff before going in and a good excuse to quit messing with it for a couple days and actually do something else. Off to Breast Buy tomorrow to get one for my son for $50 bones.
Finally..the 3rd EVO replacement had a defective screen as well. The sympathetic rep agreed that it was time...he swapped it out with a brand NIB EVO (004)....yes. Fortunately, the same day I picked up another EVO (004) from Best Buy ($50), and took them both without activation being done by either rep, for obvious rooting ease. Fortunately, they were both still on 3.7 and am a happy camper.
PLEASE HELP!!!
Hello, Guys I just got my GNote International today, I'm fairly well at the rooting and getting things going after I get a push in the right direction. My Current devices are only the Galaxy Note and Asus Transformer Prime, HP Touchpad, But in the past Ive done rooting with The original GTab from Viewsonic -First tablet, Nook, Streak 7, ZTE warp, Galaxy Tab 10.1, HP Touchpad, Asus Transformer Prime- Current Tab. I have never rooted a phone before besides the Warp and it was very simple, one click deal, The GNote seems very complex it is a different beast. So I really need some help with This bad boy, If you can help thank you very much.
Here is the Rundown on my Phone. Just got it Today. Sim Will be here tomorrow.
International Ver.
Gingerbread 2.3.6
Kernel
2.6.35.7 N7000XXLA4-CL886827
[email protected]#2
Build
GINGERBREAD.XXLA4
1. I wont get my Straight Talk [email protected] Sim card until tomorrow, I was told to order the att straight talk Sim Card is that right. I had the option of unlocked or ATT and on the message board most responses said get att, so you don't get stuck on EDGE and t-mobile.
2. Should I let it update and root before I get the Sim in it. I'm ready to get started now but like i said I wont get my Sim until tomorrow. Its already asking me to update but I haven't done anything yet because I know update can ruin rooting methods, etc.
3. I live in the US this phone will be fine as working right it was the only white one and I wanted a white one with the home button. I don't think it matters just making sure I didn't jump the gun, and that this will work with straight talk ATT Sim.
On my current version and rom, kernel etc. what would be the easiest root method for me. So I can put CWM and start setting it up to my liking.
If you need anymore info just let me know I haven't put this thing down since I got it. My Asus Prime aint been out all day. It seems like the Phone are way more complicated to root and get set up with Sim Cards. Maybe its just because I'm new to the phones, my Warp was a 4.3 Boost Mobile and I thought that would be all the bigger I would need but I like Samsung products and this is just so much bigger than it sounds like it would be, and the use of a tablet and phone is what made me jump.
My tech knowledge is decent at least 7-8 so I will figure it out. I just don't want to skip important steps. I want to make sure I do everything in order, that's why I asked if I can root and all that before my sim card gets here tomorrow, remember this is my first root on a phone that is unlocked. If anyone can help me make sure I don't do anything out of order, I will appreciate it a lot. Thanks for any help in advance.
It doesnt matter if you root with or without sim card. Probably need to find the apn settings for your chosen carrier.

Ok I understand that but will it matter if I root it first, set up ICS and CWM before setting up my APN settings with straight talk on my original rom? Does it really matter?
Root put on ICS rom then I can still set up service with straight talk or
set up service with straight talk then root CWM and ICS any difference?
I'm just wondering if I root this thing and set up my new ICS rom will I still be able to set up my straight talk service, or should I wait first to set up my service when my Sim gets here?

For APN, download APN backup & restore from market, then backup your current APN, then even if you flash official or custom roms, you can always restore your son if the from doesn't have it

You can set your apn first/middle/last, it doesnt matter. Just like your previous devices, your apn is always available in your settings option. You can change it whenever or add one whenever. Root just gives you access to system files and will not effect your apn.
Stop thinking so hard lol. But make sure you read, read, read before installing ics. I would recommend downloading a few stock gb roms and making backup of your current rom before going forward. Its extremely hard to brick a samsung device, but make sure you have something ready before installing.
Root now..the sim card is just your service..you set apn on any new rom.just jump on wifi for data...don't ever update the phone through settings..unless you want to lose root..always install rooted roms so you may wait a day for a rooted version.
Personally Samsung is a different animal then what I'm use to which is HTC.
I have not used Odin for the PC at all..I've only used mobile Odin pro from the market or cmw.

Yeah I know that is true I have only rooted one cell in my life and it was one click job, simple! This seems to be a lot more technical but I will figure it out. I have rooted many tablets though right now I have a Asus Transformer Prime, HP Touchpad, ZTE Warp-Phone, Nook Color all rooted. In the past I've rooted plenty other tabs but just one phone and it was with one mouse click, and done.
When you first get into something new its like **** man this is crazy, then after about a week it gets easier. I hope that is the case with this phone. So why not ever do an over the air update? So I need to uncheck this RIGHT NOW So if the original ICS comes out don't do it over the air? Wait and do it another way correct? My phone already did one first boot, it was already check marked to download and install updates in the settings when I turned it on it did an update. I really didn't even have time to see what it was but it was a small minor update I think so. I used the settings for straight talk from here in the thread and I get around 3-5 MB down but have only tried it like 5 times in my basement.
The weird thing is that it thinks I'm in Kansas or something because speedtest.net app says finding the closest server and it finds one in Kansas and says I'm like 30klm away from the server and its the closest one? Anyone know why this is, or WTF is going on? I gave them my correct ZIP when I ordered the ST Sim Card. Most of the time it stays on HSDPA mode but I never see where it says who my carrier is, edit I see it says HOME I guess that's my carrier? so far that Ive noticed. I don't understand the location issue. maybe I should set up my GPS I don't like it on if I don't need it.
How do you avoid from them catching on or saying I'm using too much data, I know to use WiFi whenever possible, that's a given, but what else do you guys do? Don't unlimited mean unlimited? I mean if I bought a straight talk phone and watched you-tube all day can they really say anything, its unlimited right or at least suppose to be. Anyways any tips on keeping straight talk out of my business, and off my @ss would be appreciated. Thanks
Any other tips are welcome I got two cases coming their TPU style cases which I prefer but I might have to put this in a wallet type case also? But I got super slim TPU style cases so it don't get much bigger I don't want to really add more bulk to it its getting hot outside, time for shorts, and that means no jacket pocket, I wear mostly loose fitting jeans/shorts nylon sports type. so I should be alright. Do I need a screen protector I saw one that strengthens it suppose to anyways. Alright enough questions I just don't want to ruin a $650 phone I just got, that's all.

you never do OTA updates because you will lose root and possibly the exploit that gave you root has been patched so you may be stuck without root..
The latest stuff will always be available very soon after its released so don't worry.
You're on prepaid so it will show Home as your carrier even though you're on AT&T and thats what you're on if you have a AT&T sim.
I would imagine if you use too much data they would throttle you instead of cut you off...that appears to be what at&t likes to do..I am almost always on wifi so its no biggy..
I would consider ICS ROM's advanaced so if this is new I would stick with gingerbread for the time being.
I'm used to ICS on my Transformer prime and I got it on my HP Touchpad, using CWM clearing old data caches and data etc. Then install my new rom so I don't think ICS would be that new to me. Is that what you are referring too. Or something else specific?
The question I have is that wont OTA Rootkeeper work while doing over the air updates, I use it for everything almost?
Ok so I am switching my wife over from our daughters old bb tour (which has battery life issues) to my daughters old samsung continuum. I have the phone with me but it is unactivated as of yet. I would like to bring the software up to date prior to activating it if I can. Unless this isn't the right way to do it?
Basically my wife just needs a phone that works and is stable. I would also like to setup wireless tether for her (we all have grandfathered unlimited plans), and swype.
That is really all she needs. I was going to just give her my incredible which is already setup, and get a new phone but I don't have the money right now for what I want so this seems like a good alternative.
Any help, tips would be great. I have already figured out how to get past the activation screen and the phone says its on 2.1-update1 firmware.

You have several options. Activate, update then flash.
Flash a rom directly from odin,
Ota, then root with soc, and go from there.
All will work, depending on your comfort level. If you swing into irc, I can give you something a little more comprehensive.
Dished out by my dumb digits
Thanks! I went with the activate then OTA which went extremely fast, then root with superoneclick (was kinda confused because 7zip kept installing a bunch of things I didn't want) and then downloaded WT and was done.
It was fairly painless afterall and the wife has a new phone! Her only issue now is battery life...do they make a extended battery for these?
They do make a 3200 mah with back cover for like $30 I seen on a cellphone site. If I see it again ill post link
