user like windows - Touch2 General

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to create users in winmo 6.5.
Like windows will it ask for a user login.

You mean multiple user accounts? I´m sure, that there is no such thing for WM, sorry.

Windows Mobile 6 and Linux

Anyone tried to sync the Prophet on Linux? WM6 please...
i want to know it as well
thats an interesting thing! please let mw know if there is any wa to connect t Linux
nope. one thing to do is sync with google then let google sync with your linux.
It is possible, I saw it somewhere, but need to look again for it. BUt it's not AS being used for synchronization, but another program and Mozilla Thunderbird. Once I find it again I post it here.
it's possible but very, very, very difficult, there r programs for linux to sync ur wm phone but u have to set up a bunch of programs, in wm5 its actually not that difficult but wm6 has 2 types of connection at once to the system so its a bit difficult, there's a third party software (conduits if i'm not wrong) which 'll do all the sync but its still not ready

not together you can get gchat and you can use outlook or other software for email.... they have that app for phones that don't come with mail apps installed (non-winmo phones)
there is an imap pusher for here if you need that..... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=404515

iphone Application

Ciao a tutti,
could someone from the experts programmers tell me if it is possible to change iphone application to be functioning on wm 6.1 or above!!!!
specifically I was wondering if someone can convert the Y!msg of Iphone to WM6 application...... and I also wonder why does not the stupid yahoo company make a Y!msg as per wm6.0....
Thankz for all your support
Saluti
I don't think it will be that easy... two phones running on two different platforms...
There was a Yahoo Messenger for PPc, but i don't know if still works:
http://yahoo-messenger.en.softonic.com/pocketpc
The New one is being developed and you can sign up to be a Beta tester entering mobile.yahoo.com at your mobile...
But i just don't understand why don't you just use another IM application with access to multiple networks (including Yahoo), like Talkonaut, Nimbuzz and many others? I think there are many better options, some even with voice suport (and files, the most of them).

[REQ] App to Sync WinMail w/Android Mail for DualBoot HD2's

Now that Android is close to a very stable reality, I have a choice between booting my HD2 into WinMo or Android (and probably WinPhone 7 shortly). Each OS has its advantages, and that is what makes the HD2 such a versatile device.
However, since my plans would be to boot into WinMo or Android depending on mood, preference, or requirements, there is one thing that would be really helpful...
In each OS instance, I receive my POP/IMAP and/or Exchange mail. The accounts are replicated in both WinMo and Android. It would be nice if there was a "sync" application that either in the background, or on-demand, would synchronize the received/sent folders from WinMo<-->Android in real time. We know we can access both file systems on the HD2. I would assume there'd have to be two separate apps, one running in the active instance (either WinMo or Android).
Anyone have a requirement such as this, and are there any takers for the challenge?
Just presenting food for thought... I can't program worth diddly anymore.
Doesn't IMAP accomplish that to some extent? It is not synchronized but all activity is mimicked in each client.

Hey JonSolo,
I may not have been specific enough. What I am looking for is this:
Let's say I was booted in WinMo. Throughout my "business day", I enter and receive mail regularly. As I enter mail on my HD2, I would like the mail data file in the Android file system to be updated as well. So now, the next day, I decide to boot into Android. When I start my mail there, all the mail I sent from my HD2 would show up in the Android instance as though I had sent them while in Android. Now, let's say I enter mail from my Android instance. Likewise, when I decide to boot into WinMo, I'd like all those mails sent from Android to show up in my WinMo mail.
You are correct that Imap will accomplish something similar, but first, it would require me to have an email account that supports Imap (POP wouldn't work), and second, Imap would still have an initial "sync" time...
I suppose a project like this would require knowledge of the two system's mail file structure, and also be able to access files from both file systems.
Make sense, or clear as mud?

[Q] Flashing Windows phone 7 (or winodws mobile 6.5.x) on STREAK

Streak is a beautiful tablet device, however due to its android platform, it has got limitations of usage by a business user, unlike a windows phone OS based device, (for example we can not sync it with outlook!!!)
It would be a welcome if there could be some great chef who could cook a WINDOWS MOBILE ROM for Dell Streak (be it 6.5.x or windows phone 7 OS ROM!!!). This will be a dream come true...
Why don't you buy a WM device then?
What you're asking for is next to impossible. Mainly because nobody cares.

Thanks Bro, you are certainly right, buying a winmo will be more appropriate.
Ironically this streak is my first android device, which I bought ONLY because of its good screen size and as there is no other device with this screen size, was wondering if I could simply flash a windows ROM on Streak!!!
I am sure I am going to return this and buy HD7 now...
I'm sure one of the issues with adding a WP7 ROM is going to be the licensing. If I remember correctly, each WM device had a license for the OS to run on that device. That does not exist for the Streak so you may not see a WM/WP ROM on this ever. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Whaaaa?
If there is an issue you are having with your Streak that is what you should have said. "I am having problems syncing to Outlook." will be better received than "This Streak is great, except for basically everything that makes it a Streak."
Getting irritated when some one points out there is very little intrest in having Windows Mobile ported to the Streak, besides the fact that it is not open source which makes things MUCH harder, does not help matters at all.
Is the Outlook thing the only problem you are having? If so and there is a fix, or work around then you should be good to go.
If nothing short of a WinMo phone will satisfy you, then well... you should have done more research before you bought a Streak.
Can't really see why you'd have bought a streak then. Android is definitely going to be the way to go though.
We only have to look at Microsoft's track record with mobile operating systems. There's probably something out there that will do the Outlook stuff you need. An app, a configuration of an email account somehow...Whatever.
Configuring "for Outlook" is a very high level complaint. What exactly do you mean? Do you want to set up a POP mail server? What is it that the Android isn't doing that you need it to do? I'm pretty sure you can set up POP and SMTP on it.
(Although gmail is way better)
Hey guys....and/or gals.....I didn't think that this was such a dumb question. This is a developer site..... It appears that Win devices still lack in the screen department and that some items have issues with the Android platform.
However that being said, there are several good apps on the market that will get you the ability to sync contacts, etc and push email to you too.
Search the market and you shall find.......
Later...............
Android is light years ahead.. I believe it will make people smarter. Windoze is not the way to go for mobile.
I got a windows 7 tablet and the touch on it is Mod Edit useless... I got 5 crap apps to play with....
I have zero faith in ms in the mobile arena.

For outlook:
- mail: I use pop for outlook accout, no problem
- address boolk: sync with gmail is better
- calender : I use google calendar sync with outlook and then with dell totally automatic with wireless
- task: google task...
- office ... Read and edit something in dellstreak is ok for me
In fact I was a "adept" of winmo - from wm5 with O2 xda, Atom Exec, Atom, HD1, and last time I was in chose between HD7 and Dell Streak ... Finally Dell is not a wrong chose for me, normal and buseness use.
But this idea is still good for me, and for all loving decovery new one in hi-tech world...
Thank you for sharing.

Thanks Davidsy, I get your point, however my concern is to be able to synchronize my mails (corporate with id like [email protected]), that is ALREADY lying in my MS outlook.
Of course setting up POP/SMTP (for this corporate email id) is very simple and I can very easily do it. My concern is HOW DO I GET ALL THOSE OLD MAILS LYING ALREADY IN MY MSOUTLOOK as I need to refer them -OFFLINE- time and again!!
I do understand that google is insisting us to use their cloud platform and keep our contacts/calendar/tasks etc. with them and sync from their server, for obvious reasons... which ha sits own pros and cons!!
But I am really glad that you have been a staunch winmo user (BUSINESS USER) and are actually now more happy with streak. This should give me confidence too...
I believe if you use the generic email app, if you click 'load more messages' it will actually get older messages. I was downloading messages from late 2009 that were still sitting on my email server. Not sure if this will work for Outlook mail, this was from my Comcast account that I set up.

Not a fan of WM7, but love to see it port to streak. On another note, android do have business application support.

Besides black berry, the next most mature Mobile OS for business now is the iphone believe it or not...
I have both an iphone and Streak and the iphone for outlook intergration runs circles around the android stuff..
Sorry, but in my eyes iTunes-requiring hardware is not really mature. But ALL systems have a lot room for improvement
Sync (mail, calendar, contacts) with our company-Exchange worked fine for me on the Streak (2.2). But now i got a company BB Bold 9700 (tweaked with BB OS 6). You can´t imagine how much i love my 5" screen and swype instead of the microscreen and mini-keys for my sausage-fingers. There are also features on BB which i´d like to have on Streak (like the cool rigtones of BB OS6), but in the end for me the Streak is the best mixture of features for my needs.
btw: Fanboys (of any brand/make) don´t forget that there´s nothing really perfect out there
Going from a winmo to android, because of the outlook sync issue, allowed me to break my addiction to office. I went with Thunderbird & Open Office...free at last!

Have you tried using Touchdown?
Since installing that, I have forgotten about my iPhone.
Actually in the three weeks I have had a Streak, my iPhone has not been powered on.

Thanks Mobs69 for the suggestion. I installed Touchdown but found that this works ONLY IF you are on EXCHANGE SERVER. My company does not have an exchange server and we use our corporate email IDs ([email protected]) directly on our OUTLOOK, through pop downloads.
In such a scenario, is there any scope of syncing, through Touchdown?

In legal terms yes a license is required for each winmo or wince device sold but licensing is not done like in windows desktop. For winmo7 it is a little tricky (even more so than older winmo platforms) since you need to partner with msft and get their blessing before you as a manufacturer produce a winmo7 device that has access to all bells and whistles like Xbox live and marketplace...
On the porting site the most important bit is the BSP which needs to be supplied by qualcomm or one of its partner and actually do exists for the cpu used in streak even if it probably not include all additional drivers such as touch but even those can be obtained one way or another.
However, I do not see any reason to even further think on this subject unless winmo7 proves to be a considerable and capable platform, allowing user tinkering at some level which will require time to be proven or be forgotten...
On the outlook sync issue; actually android 2.1 and above natively sync with outlook (or with exchange to be more precise) eliminating the need to connect your phone or look a like device to your PC which is like using FAX to send a CD copy over POTS line...
Yes, I use exchange sync for corp mails on my streak; mail, calendar and contacts; not notes or tasks...
Happy new year everyone!
