[Q] Find/Check rilphone.dll version? - Windows Mobile

Hi there,
I know I can get a rilphone.dll and put that in my kitchen so that I know what version I'm using but, how do I check the rilphone.dll that's already in my kitchen?
I've tried using fdc taskmanager and depends.exe on the PC, looking at the version info there but all I get is 2.11.0.0 and the same was gotten using PEInfo on the PC although I admit, there was a lot of other information in PEInfo that I didn't understand...
Any pointers?
Cheers.

Thanks, I thought one of those would come into it.
Am looking through it and found the WinCE version information embedded-hoped it would be near that but I couldn't see anything that sticks out, along with operator names and AT commands amongst other things.
Could you help further by directing me to a byte range I need to check? Or a search string I can use to find the necessary bit of the file? e.g. I have a rilphone I know is 1.13.25.24-but how exactly do I search for that?
Thanks again!

Sorry. You can see the version of radio at radio, but in rilphone you can see the version of .dll

I just checked with radio 1.00.25.05 and yeah, it is plain to see there.
I've seen in the dll version that it's just 2.11.0.0 or something similar but those version numbers are familiar as a wm6.5 version.
From what I've read, the rilphone.dll is related in terms of allowing the OS access to features contained in the radio, right?
Then my question becomes-how do we know we've got the right rilphone.dll for the radio when we're building custom roms?
Do we assume e.g. that since my device's stock radio was the one shown above that the rilphone.dll will have the same version in the stock ROM? Is there absolutely no way to check the rilphone.dll version without comparing all of the functions it accepts with radio versions?

The rilphones come with stock rom upgrades, and are matched to the radio in the shipped rom. You just have to dump the rom and take the rilphone, and keep track of what radio it was paired with. There aren't any signatures for the radio in the dll, as you've found.
A lot of times, people will include a rilphone cab with a new radio stripped from a shipped rom (radio only upgrades from HTC or a carrier won't have a rilphone). That's the other way to know what version rilphone it is. It's up to you to keep track of them.

I am looking at ROM's and I found a few but I wanted to see what the difference is between shiped and a ROM that doesn't state it.
Is it an edited ROM?
Like these two.
Sorry if it's a noob question but I couldn't find the answer.

As far as I am aware SHIP would normaly indicate that it is a complete working tested ROM. This will be the ROM that would appear on a new device assumming it was purchased after the ROMs release date.
e.g you buy a new imate jasjar and this will be the ROM it should be shipped with.
The other ROM example you give is of an old ROM.
so WWE means World Wide English _13076 is the OS ROM _164_ is the extended ROM (added games, apps etc) _10900 is the Radio ROM(bluetooth, signal etc)
Hope this helps

some questions about roms

Hi guys,
this is my first post in this forum.
A couple of days I've already been browsing through the forums and the wiki, and now I have a few simple questions regarding flashing of roms.
I'm the owner of a BLAC100 in the O2 Germany version (Rom:1.14.207.2 (241011) GER, Radio: 1.09.25.14)
As O2 has not (yet) offered their version of the 1.56.407.2 Rom I was thinking of flashing the generic version using USPL.
Ultimately I'm hoping to run a fully working Android on the device, but till then I'll probably have to wait a little longer.
Is it possible after flashing a different rom to completely restore the device to factory settings? (Is there a rom available?)
What happens to the software installed on SD?
I guess I'll have to reinstall that too?
THX in advance,
Kayoz
Welcome to the forum!
I assume the BLAC100 is the Blackstone?
I also have the touch hd originally from O2 Germany.
If you want to flash a new ROM, but you still want to keep the original SPL, then don't install an HSPL, but instead use USPL. Of course, if you were to use HSPL, you could always go back and put the original SPL for warranty purposes. It's really up to you. I've always only used USPL.
If one day you want your original stock ROM, then download it from this list here.
Wiki: Stock ROMs
Just scroll down to the Germany section, and pick the one that applies to you.
There are some great instructions on flashing ROMs here.
Follow them closely - especially if you want to flash a 1.56 ROM - you'll need to first update your SPL/HSPL/USPL to a 1.56 version. It is all explained in that tutorial.
I use Dutty's 3.7 XT ROM and it's great. I have used his ROMs since v2.1.
When you flash a new ROM, you'll most likely need to install the programs on your SD card again (at least - I have always had to). You can use a program like spb Backup to make an image of your device after you are done installing all your programs and adjusting all your settings. If you have to hard-reset, you can just restore that backup file and in no time you'll have all your programs back. However, if you flash a different ROM, that backup file will likely not work with it.
restore the device to factory settings == the rom you flashed's factory settings
there is no behind the screen rom you can always revert to after you flash your device
if change the rom you change the rom
only way to go back to how your phone was bought is to flash it again
with the rom version it came with like you would any other rom
Thanks for the quick replys!

There seem to be 3 different O2 roms (all of them appear to be homemade) which is the right one/what are the differences?
Or is it possible to create an image of the rom i have on the device atm, and revert back to that later?

Correction: Hmm, I just looked into it. Some do seem to be "homemade" or altered roms. (for example see this discussion). Thanks for pointing it out. I was under the impression they were 100% original stock roms.
I can't tell you what the differences are. It looks like the O2 roms are all the same. This table shows you the various stock roms in each country (scroll down). There it only shows O2 germany as having ROM 1.14.207.2(24011)
Correction: (old info erased) My original O2 rom was 1.14.207.2(24011). The 1.14.407.3 was once I flashed later.
Check your phone right now. Go to settings, system tab, device information and look and see what version it says you have. You can also look at the red numbers when you start your phone. Write those down, as they say your ROM and radio info etc...

Making an "image" doesn't mean you are saving the whole ROM. I'm not a cook, so I can't tell you how you could do that. But maybe these links will help:

I had my stock ROM for several weeks. And once I flashed Dutty's ROMs I never went back. I use his latest ROM right now (3.7 XT).
I made quite a few changes to my previous post, so you might want to read it again. I had some mistakes in there. I also included some new links with info if you are interested in backing up your current "true" stock rom. It would be really helpful for the rest of us too, since apparently the "stock" roms provided in the wiki are not 100% stock. I don't know if the altered stock roms in the wiki would be recognized as such and therefore void the warranty.

In my understanding making an image of the rom (dumping the rom) is basically saving all the contents of the rom.
If not please tell me what would be missing.

Yes, I believe you are right, but I am not sure if there are any hidden files or boot files that you need to make sure are included in there. And then, once you dump it, you have to make it "installable". My knowledge is not good in that area, so I don't want to give you information that could be wrong or misleading.
The best thing would be to post a thread in the Blackstone ROM Development forum.

Here is a link to Dutty's latest ROM for WM 6.1
It is faster and more user friendly and nicer design than my original stock ROM. It also has the new Manila version with the new contact cards etc... You can also use Manila in portrait or landscape mode.
It has extra useful apps without making the ROM a big bloat.
Check out the thread for details.
EDIT::::::::::::::::::::::
Here is a thread devoted to ROM extraction and creation.

ok, so I've read some more material and successfully dumped my rom, now working on reconstructing it so it can be flashed back onto the device.
I also did (my first) hard reset and I noticed after the hard reset the protocol version of the device changed from:
52.49a.25.26U
to:
52.49a.25.26H
anyone knows what that means?

Cool! Great to hear. It looks like we might now have a true 100% stock ROM for O2 Germany. (Assuming you'll share it with us )
Unfortunately I don't know the difference in protocols. Maybe someone else can help.
So, I've been playing around those last couple of days trying to reconstruct my rom.
I've been unsuccessful so far. When I'm trying to do nbsplit on a stock rom and then run imgfsfromnb on the payload i always end up with an empty imgfs.bin.
I also tried using Part02.raw as imgfs.bin directly then it only tells me not to use the created imgfs-new.bin.
anyone might know what i could be doing wrong?

Kayoz,
I was wondering, were you ever able to reconstruct your ROM?
Im looking to flash a different ROM onto my phone, but I am unwilling until I have a copy of my current ROM on my THD.
Does anyone know if it matters if two ROMs are identical in all aspects except for the protocol versions?
My ROM comes with
ROM version: 1.18.707.3 (23358) WWE
ROM date: 12/10/08
Radio version: 1.09.25.14
Protocol version: 52.49a.25.26W

But the closest that I was able to find was the RUU_BlackStone_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.18.707.3_Radio_52.49a.25.26_1.09.25.14_Ship.exe which has a slightly different protocol.
Cheers.

Difference between upgrading Radio and ROM

Hi.
Can someone please tell what is the difference between.. radio and a ROM
i see lot ppl asking for new version of Radio or ROM. Hw r these 2 thing different??
Thanks a lot
I have been trying 2 research the same thing. I have flashed a new ROM. but have no clue on how to install a new Radio, or even where to get them... is there a list and tuts anywhere on how/what to install?
Bee searching with no luck, though I did find a Radio that CR86 had a link to on his Touch HD v2.6 rom though have no idea on how to proceed to install the Radio, so I have my default one on my Wizard atm.

LAYMAN TERMS.
Radio : phone's communication software to your network/carrier
ROM : Phone's UI Software.
Or, something like that.
correct if wrong.
And to update both radio and rom, you have to flash it, nbh files is avail at htc upgrading forum.
pretty much got it right lol
radio controls all gsm and 3g functions (calls internet etc)
rom is basically windows mobile and all OEM software

Search, search, search!!!
Everything is explained in the forums and wiki.
The whole ROM is divided on three parts: OS, Radio and extROM. Now, OS (well you know, operating system), Radio ROM is where you have GSM (if you fry this say goodbuy to your device), Radio ROMs differ for the various part of the world, meaning that a Radio that works well in one part of Europe will not work so good on other countries (search the forum and wiki which Radio will be best for your country), and finaly extROM is part where operators put their **** on the device.

I am not able to find where the exact problem is. That was the reason I thought, it might help to upgrade the ROM or Radio version in order to solve this problem.
Before Yesterday it showed, 20% battery left and I got low battery notification. But after 24 hours. Today also the phone is still on and battery is on 20%.
Help please...
Thank you very much.

[QUESTION] Why flashing Radio ROM

Hi all,
Flashing of RADIO rom is that same reason as my Kaiser?
Better performance, GPS, etc etc?
And where can i find a thread where i can see where the latest radio rom is working correct in given Country's, or are the HERO Radio roms for every country?
I know for Kaiser that not all roms are working correct in Netherlands for example.
cheers

Yes indeed, that is exactly what updating the radio is good for.
I don't think they are country/region specific,... I just used the latest one and my network signal is now much better!!!
All radio updates can be found in the sticky's at the top of the Hero-Development section,... Heres the link though,... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563757

nothing to add here, except DO NOT PULL THE BATTERY! it takes a few minutes and you may see a screen that makes you think you bricked your phone.

Just wait.
Don't want to start an additional thread for my [question], so this seems to be a good place to ask it .
Where do these radio roms come from? How come HTC don't provide them for downloading in their site? Maybe it's simply not worth flashing them or they are actually not good in a sense that they are not tested properly and stuff?
Also, do the full ROM upgrades include a newer radio? So can we expect a new radio included in the upcoming official 2.1 ROM?
AND, what is the difference betwen EU and JU? Currently I have 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18 and the newest one is 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26. This may sound super dumb, but maybe mine is like European one and the newest is Japanese or something?
Oh, and the last one (even though I'm sure there is an answer somewhere deep in these forums): how do you flash radio, in short?
Thanks

I'm no pro, but I can attempt this,...
Where do these radio roms come from?...
I *think* the official updates from HTC come with updated radio ROMS,... Then some clever guys from either here or Modaco take 'dumps' of the update from the handset itself, then seperate the two.
Maybe it's simply not worth flashing them or they are actually not good in a sense that they are not tested properly and stuff?...
I take XDA to be a reliable source of information now,.... If you do your research you'l be fine. I made sure I read through the forums to make sure there are no known issues before upgrading my radio to the latest one.
Do the full ROM upgrades include a newer radio? So can we expect a new radio included in the upcoming official 2.1 ROM?...
Hmmmm,.... Good question. But no-one would know that yet.
Maybe mine is like European one and the newest is Japanese or something?...
I thought the exact same thing, but NO,... It doesn't mean anything,... Apparently it is just a reference used by HTC. I used the latest on my Orange UK branded Hero, which is now being used with an o2 SIM.
How do you flash radio, in short?...
To install a custom firmware ROM I had to update the recovery console. Once that is done, you just put the new radio onto your SD, load into the recovery console, then select update from SD,... DONE,... Easy as pie,... Piece of cake!!!
Thanks all for the info.. And yes.. NEVER pull the Battery out of the phone.. untill you can slide down your lockscreen isn't it? haha
