Epic low battery-phone goes crazy - Epic 4G General

my battery got low and it kept saying at the bottom to plug it in..it was basically flashing at the bottom of the screen every 5 seconds or so..also it would not let me paly music..i would click the song and it makes the screen animation as if its about to go to the song, then it dosent....this is really annoying. even if the battery is low i should still be able to listen to music...and it was just under 20 percent...way enough battery to listen to music..

It will also not allow you to take photos

It will also not let you watch videos. Annoying.

thats stupid, can you disable this when rooted/or with a rom (whenever they are released). so the phone is useless except for calls when under 20 percent battery..idiotic

Phone Freezing Fail?

Sorry about the alliteration, I couldn't resist...
My phone is freezing about once a day. Not just going slow, it completely locks up and the only way to recover it is to pop the back off and remove the battery. Over the last week it's gone from frustrating to aggravating; I'm starting to worry that I'm going to wear out the snaps that hold the back on and the thing will just fall apart in my hands.
The only thing I can kind of point to as the cause is the stock Music app. 90% of the time it happens I'm sitting down in my car, about to drive off, I plug the phone in to my car stereo's aux port, open the music app, and get a black screen with the notification icons along the top.
At this point there is no music, the screen is unresponsive to taps, and the physical buttons do nothing. I can't even force a shutdown because the power button is unresponsive.
Once I left it alone to see if it would recover overtime and the screen turned off but I couldn't turn it back on (power button still failed). Another time the music was already playing but I tried to open the playlist to choose a different song, the song skipped a few times then it all locked up.
I've also noticed the music app seems to forget I have an SD card sometimes. I'll open it and the only songs are the ones included by default. I have to open the cover (again) and reinsert the SD card for it to reacquire.
So my questions are:
1. Is anybody noticing their phone locking up frequently? Especially those who use the music app alot?
2. Is there a better way to force a shutdown without battery removal or a hard reset (which I don't even will work)?
3. At 10 battery removing crashes per week can I lay claim to the buggiest phone in this room?
I wouldn't make a big deal about this but this is a stock app included with the phone, you'd think it would play nicer. As it is I feel like the music app takes more resources to run than the processor can handle. Skip more than a few songs in a row, or try to scroll through your playlist quickly and it gets really jittery and unstable.
Obviously my phone isn't rooted.
Music is in a "Music" folder on the SD card.
All album art is embedded in the file so it doesn't have to look things up.
The only music related app I've added is the last.fm scrobbler app.
Everytime I can recall this happening I had just recently plugged in the headphone jack.
Any ideas?
I'd go ask for another if you haven't yet (or try hard resetting)... This hasn't been happening to me. I have ~3GB of music totaling ~1000 songs and I haven't had any trouble with the music app aside from it being jittery in scrolling. I haven't once had my phone lock to the point of having to take the battery out.
mine will actually crash but reboot itself while listening to podcasts or music. Has happened about 7-8 times, once being today and the most previous before that it happened 2 times around the 3rd of the month...
( i do not have the update installed---if that matters at all)

[Q] Shuffle in Music if screen is off

Not 100% sure if this should be in Q&A or apps, but I'll take a shot...
I like using Music instead of NemoPlayer for some reason. I think it sounds better, however silly that may be. However, in shuffle mode (haven't tried it off shuffle), if the screen is off, when a song ends, it can take anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple minutes before the next song starts playing. As soon as I unlock the screen, the next song will start.
So I have a couple questions...
1. Obviously, is anyone else experiecing the same thing? and...
2. Is there an even better app for music listening? I tried Doubletwist, and while it does have a nice interface and I like the idea of the PC app and its sync feature, it (the PC app) kept crashing on my 120gb, 24,000 song iTunes library, so I uninstalled it.
I would like to start in shuffle mode too. If it's in Music, I haven't found it. I have to start playing a song, then I can turn shuffle on.

The delay switching songs sounds like the cpu was throttled down to the point it had issues. When the screen is on, the cpu doesnt throttle down so much.
Sorry to get a bit off topic, but what is battery life like listening to music on this tablet? By listening to music, I mean exclusively listening to it, not listening, browsing, and gaming all at the same time
You can go literally days only listening to music. I last charged it Wednesday night, and still have over 70%. I did a little surfing yesterday afternoon.
Oh, and I found shuffle... at the top of the song list.
The odd thing about the pause is that it doesn't do it if I'm listening to music using NemoPlayer.
Here is a similar issue. Infortunately without solution : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15759232#post15759232
Hope this helps.

[Q] When Tether Hiccups

When I tether the tab from my phone, I am streaming music from the radio app,
if I turn the screen off to conserve power then hiccups every couple of minutes or so, keep buffering, but if I leave the screen on there is no disturbance at all for hours. Is Iconia falling asleep or what I am really disappointed of this issue on top of that screen can be selected to be on for 30min.
So nobody streams on your tab? And if you do when turn the screen of does run without breaking up on the sound, buffering etc...

I stream on occasion. I do get the buffering a lot however the times that i stream i am watching videos and only need it for about an hour so it does not bother me.
When you watching videos in same time seems ok since your screen is on my problem is when turning the screen off goes into buffering a lot vs if screen on works very fine no buffer for hours.

Anyone's S7 Edge reboot after high pitched beep while watching video?

My wife just reported to me that her phone just rebooted after high pitched noise while watching a video.
I saw similar report on Reddit, but there was no reply to it other than couple of people who just returned the phone and got a replacement.
Has anyone experienced it? She has been using the phone for a few days and it was the first time. i wonder whether her slow SD card was causing this issue, but I don't know. I never had experienced the reboot and I have over 200 hours of uptime (since the T-mobile pushed the update) on my GS7E.
Someone suspected the "active View" setting, but it was off on her phone.
I watched hours of video without any issues so just wondering whether this was a freak issue, or something that people have seen before.
Thanks.
Funny, my wife experienced this too while watching you tube. Happened only once and her phone has been fine since.

Happened to me yesterday, first I was using Tango to video conference with my Dad and all of a sudden, phone freezed up with a high pitch noise then rebooted itself. Tried it again and same thing after a couple minutes.
So I gave up and figured it was probably a glitch with the Tango app, went to watch some YouTube an hour later and same thing happened, loud high pitch sound, phone freezes and reboots. Hasn't happened again with YouTube but I'll keep an eye out, happens everytime though with the Tango video call within 2-3 minutes.

My wife was using MX Video player. I don't know whether it was using hardware or software decode mode though. (I don't know why on her phone, the app appear to default to software mode all the time - probably some setting I missed).
The same thing happened to me last night and today! Last night I was watching a < 30 min video on YouTube and it was at either 720p or 1080p, and today I was watching a Facebook video on Chrome that was probably 420p or less. Wtf is going on! Is my phone going to explode?? Lol no but seriously, if I did a full retail purchase on my phone, then who would I contact for an exchange? I bought my phone from Best Buy for the Verizon network but I am on a third party cell phone carrier.
same issue on youtube video - landscape
I just sent mine back as defective as every time I watched a YouTube in portrait it was fine, but when I rotated video to landscape it would pixelate green blocks and then loud beep and then reboot.
I'm new to posting so I can't post a link but:
I made a crappy video on Youtube but can't post link. should be able to find it ...search..........Samsung S7 edge Youtube landscape video problem
Hmm.. It is odd.. I was watching John Oliver You Tube video without any issues and I do watch using MX Player for hours without any issues.. So, maybe it is my wife's phone that may be having an issue.. Interesting.. I will have to see what Costco can do for me.
Just literally happened to be last night using mx player. I had to restart and it worked fine. I had been using mx player for prolly close to 25 hours so 1 hiccup isn't to bad.
Is this a Snapdragon issue? My Exynos version hasn't done anything weird (yet).

There's a big thread on this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/getting-random-restarts-reboots-t3327296
Mine just beeped super loud like an alarm after watching a youtube video. I hit the "back" button and the beeping stopped. Googled it and found this thread
Had this happen to me last week, a super loud high pitched car alarm type sound, i actually thought it wasnt my phone making the noise, i said to my mate, is that you!! he says no.
And yes, it was coming from the s7 edge speaker, thought it was impossible for a phone to make such a noise.
Rebooted the phone and it stopped making the noise.

Audio randomly stops (youtube, browser, etc). I have to press play for it to resume.

Happens everyday (even with my S6). It'll stop when audio is playing for a bit, or after I hit the volume button. It doesn't do it constantly through out the day, but it'll happen atleast once everyday i'm listening to audio. Anyone else?
Anyone?
It is happening with my S8 either when playing games or youtube and even music.
This problem started after the software update. So i think it is a software issue..
Whenever the sound cut off, i just lock the screen and unlock it back....
Hope Samsung will release a software update as soo as possible
Games is fine for me, it's just players like YouTube, music apps, and players inside websites. Just gotta press play again. Pretty annoying, but happens atleast once a day, not constantly through out the day.
It happens to me in Youtube and NBA app when video is being played.
Sometimes the screen just shuts off completely too.
I agree it's not consistent.
To add, sound not working sometimes when i am using skype and even sometimes for my alarms.
What do you think, is it a software problem or hardware?
Seems to happen more through out the day now. It's pretty annoying.
This just started happening to me yesterday. I've tried restarting my phone, pausing the video and playing it again, turning the volume all the way down then back up. All of those things restore the sound but it'll cut out a few seconds later. Also audio plays just fine in my headphones.
I dont have my s8 yet, but this sounds like a problem I used to have on a previous galaxy s phone (i think it may have been the s4). It turned out I had a setting enabled where the player pauses or stops when I'm not looking at the screen. It's called smart pause. Could be something similar although i'm not sure.
Uggg
Same problem here. Got the s8 less than a week ago and I use spotify offline (downloaded) and Google Music for downloaded files and it always pauses after about 15 minutes, sometimes sooner. I don't use battery saver, and none of the 'smart' features are enabled. It happens with headphones, without headphones, on Bluetooth. Just pauses the song and I have to hit play again, super annoying and I can't find any fix. I'm really regretting this purchase.
I also have S8 and currently experiencing this kind of issue. Every after 1 minute of playing either youtube or videos on my phone it paused and I didn't even clicked it.
I have a problem like this on my s7edge. Then I thought it can be related third party apps. And yes when I uninstall Sputnik news app, it solves the problem.
