There's an extra taskbar - HD Mini General

A couple of days ago the alarm clock in my Mini sounded, so I tried to take it not looking at it, touching the screen, buttons and who knows what else. The thing is, when I looked at the screen, there was a new bar!
It looked like this
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Not exactly, since that's a quick Photoshop work I've done, but you get the idea.
Does anyone know to make it appear again? It was the first time I saw it

just tap at left of edge icon (E or G).

Could you specify where exactly? (in a picture or something). I'm trying what you said but I only get the Notifications window

Exactly below The H of HTC logo at top.

Thanks, but that only takes me to the notifications window... have you seen the image I posted?

i think that might be appearing due to any of insatalled application on my device. and yes it is as per the screen shot(not photoshoped). A zoom button, clock, connectivity, battery, etc.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, but I haven't installed anything like that, that's the weird thing
There's a guy in a Spanish forum who saw that bar once also, but no idea how he managed to show it

i saw a similar taskbar but disappeared the same way you mentioned before

Same here...i was reading a buk using adobe reader when i accidently pressed taskbar..this another bar poped up but was gone next second....i tried several times after that...got it one more time..but not after that..

taskbar
I have this piece some times after I have established foreign taskbar crept out!

I got it. Install X-task. and u will get it every time.

Do you mean this one?
I don't really care about having that taskbar or not, what I'd like to know is just how that happened and how can I see it again.
Mine didn't show and disappeared again, I pressed the zoom icon and my screen zoomed in a lot. Then I tapped the X and the screen went to the normal view, with no taskbar this time.

go for this.

The bar you've seen is probably the original WM 6.5.x bar which is normally hidden by default, due to the HTC bar, might be a bug if this old one appears.

You might be right, I've found this picture
That's exactly the bar I saw
Finally, mistery solved
Thanks so much

How do we get back this original WM bar?

I guess if you disable/uninstall HTC Sense... but dunno how

I've tried that. Didn't work. Still get HTC notifications.

Hi check out this thread..

Sorry unable to post links.
Instal the task manager and whenever you tap the clock you will get the bar pop up.

YES there is a solution to get the time back in the topbar!

The battery icon in the topbar of new ROMs bothers a lot of people on this forum! Levenum has posted in his topic in the 'development & hacking' section a (partial) solution to our problem! His program works! But covers also the volume indicator For now: congrats to Levenum!!!

Wow that's great. However, I am sure that most don't want to do an addition by subtraction. Hopefully, somehow this can be tweaked even further to just cover the battery and not anything else.
Yeah.. moreover.. I think most people want to get rid of the battery and put the standard time back there, rather than essentially 'skin' the taskbar by slapping a clock on top. You may also wonder what happens, for example, when using MagicButton - does it cover up the Magic Button bar if it's set to "entire taskbar" ?
it works also well with MagicButton.......
Works for me No problems with Magic Button so far.. ..the time is nicely hidden when "Cover Full Title Bar" is selected

For as long as there is no other BETTER solution to the taskbar time problem, I think this is the best way for now. You're free to develop a tool yourself but i'm verry gratefull to Levenum!
wooo, calm down I'm sure it is the best solution for now, and I'd be happy to use it if I were on the AKU2 rom and it doesn't interfere with other things too much
definitely can't knock people for trying. we need more of that. for me losing the volume icon isn't that big of a deal but what does this cab actually do?
Ok, something wierd is going on here.
I just successfully installed the custom 2.17 ROM on my MDA. I expected to have this problem you've all been refering to about the clock, but I'm not. Mine is still there, same as it has always been. So is the volume indicator.
The only thing I'm missing is the battery icon in the lower right hand of the screen.
Is my phone the devil?
Great work! BTW, you can still edit your volume settings if you click on the "clock" in the top bar, you just don't see its current status. For now its the best and at least someone has tried.
The work IS appreciated!

Maybe - try placing a post in the following thread (wouldn't want this one to go off-topic, eh?) with the name of the ROM you installed and whatnot:

See the original thread mentioned in the first post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=45084
Summary: It adds a Today Item which lists both date (on the left) and time (on the right) -including Swatch @Internet time- using a custom string (e.g. "hh:mmtt" = "09:48am"). In later versions, an option to place a clock on the Taskbar (the top bar) was added. This clock simply 'overlays' on whatever may be there otherwise, which would typically be the new AKU2 ROM's battery indicator icon, and for most people the volume icon. Work is currently underway to make that Taskbar clock only appear when the Today screen is active, and have users be able to define the horizontal position of the clock - both to alleviate the issue of overlapping icons that /are/ desired.

vp3G_PTT_Reassign.zip???

Hey guys,
Would anyone mind telling me what vp3G_PTT_Reassign.zip is and how to use it? I've looked for info on it but came up short... I even installed it and though ohh what the heck; my comm manager button (top left) doesn't work anymore...
Also, I'd like to know how you get the shiny numbers on the clock? The ones that are real bright...?
Last, how do we get the battery status bar (HTC Home plugin) to be on top of the today screen and not on the bottom? It's annoying to have to scroll down all the time. ;P
This is the picture of what it is supposed to look like. (Unfortunately, my batt status bar is on the bottom.)

Thanx,
Phil
I believe the yellow section is the freeware "BatteryStatus" plugin, the green section is the HTC Home plugin (Free for WM6 users, but can easily be found somewhere in this bulletin board, and easily modified with this), and the blue includes the WM default lock/unlock today plugin and the "system tray" for WM. The only question is whether this is actually running WM6 or if it's being skinned by Wisbar Advance, which is pay-for software ($10 USD).
Anything else?
about the battery status bar...
Nice move Myr,
I hadn't thought about that! Putting them in different color squares makes it a whole lot easier to explain!
You see, the yellow square is a the bottom, that is until yesterday! I opened my phone today, and now it's somewhere in the middle. but I still would like to have it on top like it is displayed on the image (mind you, the image I put on this post is the picture of what it's supposed to look like, not the way it shows on my phone...).
Now that you've boxed everything, in the green square your clock is bright, your icons right under are colorful and you have different color icons below that... I've wracked my brain to figure it out with no luck! I must be crazy 'cause it looks like the answer is right in front of me... I guess I'm "blind"! I'll read the link in just a sec... I'll let you know.
Phil
No luck there...
I guess some things are to be left untouched!
I tried the plugin. Unfortunately, the "file are not found" so it cannot continue its application. What next?
Phil
About your plugin...
Like I said before, it doesn't work...
But now it says something else; "Cannot detect Home plugin, defaulting to v1.5 settings"...
Any idea what thaqt means???
Phil

Change background of "Start" Menu in 6.5??

Hi.
firstly, i'm using the latest ROM from Dutty (WM6.5 Leo R4 Ultimate WWE
Based Rom 2.31 ( CE OS Build 5.2.23016.5.3.0 ))
secondly, i've installed all the "standard" things i use (cleanRAM, total commander, coreplayer, etc...but nothing to do with themes)
thirdly, Max TF3D Theme Maker v4.0 didn't work for me (any ideas why? sigh) and therefore i am unsure how else to "fix" my problem theme-wise
Finally, the problem:
The picture behind all the icons when i press the start button (or softkey on the top left) is...well it's a great pic (of my gf...hehe) but it's been stretched...lol. so it doesn't look so great.
PLEASE help me change it.
(i got the pic there in the first place by doing "Menu" Softkey->"Home Wallpaper"->"Picture Wallpaper"->Storage Card, GF pic.
now when i do that, it changes the home wallpaper, but not the background in the Start Menu)
Go to Settings/All Settings/Today and mark there "Use this picture as the background" then select your one

no. doesn't work. what happens is, the top bar (where start, battery indicator, etc are in) shows the top piece of the new picture i selected, but the old, stretched image remains. i'll try and get a screenshot up asap (never done it before, so good time to learn.
thanks for the first suggestion though!
Well, here is the screenshot of the problem. it's not just in that menu, but in any menu with wm6.5 style icons. (ill put the photo on flickr as well, incase the uploading dont work)
my lady looks fat on the pic...so u can imagine how unimpressed she is right now...lol

ok, last post here. sorry. i figured it out. it was a matter of simply soft reseting after changing the pic... sigh!!!
thank you prdic for your suggestion though.
BUT, maybe some1 can help me:

THIS seems to be very similar to what im experincing. My lock wallpaper, and the background of my start and "all settings" menu have the SAME picture. (although i only selected a picture for the lock screen)
this wouldnt be so bad, but the picture gets stretched in the settings menu although it looks fine on the lock screen (just see print screens)
any ideas? (ps. sorry i left real people pictures on! i forgot to change the picture to something more generic. but now u know im a good guy, no skew teeth, wash behind my ears, etc )

New mail notification: weird image displaying

I couldn't find another thread for this problem, then again I found it hard to find words to describe the problem so I'm just gonna go ahead and post a screen shot
Anyone else come across this and/or have a fix?
Thanks!

For some reason the picture wasn't displaying in my first post above so here it is! As you can see the new mail number in the green circle is covered by the square slider... the speech bubble was however added by me to brighten up your day.
Friendly bump
All I can say is that that's obviously not standard behaviour.
Have you installed many theme mods?
What extra software have you installed on the device? I don't recognise the 2 icons on the top right as being standard (well, not for me). I'm guessing that the horizontal stretching in the image is not representative of your device? On my HD2 the envelope is more square. Does this happen on all you email account icons? I see you have 3 accounts.
Regards.
thanks for the response guys. to start off with, the ROM i have is 2.01, and i found the download link for it buried somewhere in the 2.01 ROM thread right here in these forums. i didn't know it at the time but it was a cooked rom as the top right icon in the status is actually a task manager drop down menu that has been there since i installed the rom, as well as some other programmes that are not stock.
however to my memory this graphical anomaly shown above was not present from the beginning... yes, it happens to all of the email accounts.
In terms of theme mods i did install HDwall but then uninstalled it as i stupidly didn't realise that it didn't work properly with manila 1922 (if i recall). i made the same mistake with max manila and also uninstalled that. my biggest problems came after trying out dome bg4alltabs mods and 16/20 quicklink shortcut mods, which i should point out that i had trouble completely uninstalling, though they no longer appear in the application list. i believe that the 20 quicklinks mod graphically messed up my home screen by removing all the quicklinks (not even the outlines remained) and causing an ugly grey box to appear on the.home screen which covered part of theleft handside of the clock...?
i can't be bothered to hard reset over this at the moment... i guess one way to perhaps solve it would be if some of you guys kindly posted the relevant stock registry entries on here that are relevant to the problem or indeed relevant to those theme mods that have been uninstalled, as maybe there are still remnants of them left.
however i realise this is near impossible for any one to know the ins and outs of the registry entries that well, at least that's what i feel in my inexperience, so if not then no worries, i can only thank you for your time which i will do gladly

Quick Menu disappeared after ROM upgrade..

Hello everybody
Yesterday I tried to upgrade my HTC TD2 form WM 6.1 to 6.5
After reading the instructions from the official site, I've succesfully (as I thought) installed the 6.5 version on my htc
Unfortunately, after this, I realised that the Quick Menu icon and the Task Manager tab from the Settings menu have been vanished
I tried everything to bring them back (including many hard resets) but nothing worked - the quick menu icon is still missing
I dunno what else to do, should I downgrade my phone back to 6.1 or there's a solution to make this quick menu/task man. work again...
Do you mean the program Quick Menu? or are you referring to the task manager?
I mean this icon on the upper right of the screen
http img13.imageshack.us/img13/5287/iconhf.png
It's completely gone and I can't find any way to make it appear again..
WM6.5 has replaced the task manager with the drop down menu.
You can install another task manager but it will be difficult to access as you have to hit just the very edge of the taskbar and the "X" will not display.
An alternative would be to run the program QuickMenu which provides an alternate start menu and has built in task manager, but it resides on the left instead of the right.
Excuse me for not being so clear.. It's quite late in the evening here in Greece
youtube.com/watch?v=BlRpUaHzvK4&feature=related
In this vid you see that the Quick Menu (this is how it is referred in the manuals) is located on the upper right of the screen (most times next to the battery meter) , and when you click on that it'll open a drop down menu with the Programs name and and X next to it (so that you can close any program quickly)
After I upgraded my phone, this is completely gone, and next to the battery meter there's nothing (just a small empty space), and I can't find any way to make it appear again. Even after 5 hard resets, this problem still persists
Should I downgrade to get it back or there's a way to fix it?..
No, you were clear and I understand what your issue is.
I have enclosed a taskmanager that will work, but as I previously stated, it probably will not display as it used to and will be hard to access.
I have since switched to using a program called QuickMenu that will display all of your running programs and can be closed from the menu, same way as it does in a taskmanager. Its just sits on the left of the taskbar and not the right.
Sorry if my explanation wasn't clear.
I see..
It was a good feature, I can't really understand why it was removed.. Anyway
Where I can get this QuickMenu program you use?
Thanks for your answers, you've been very helpful
