Guys,
I have 2 HTC HD2 phones. Both are running the same ROM (Energy Dink Glass), the same settings and apps. Everything from the first phone is cloned on the second one down to the smallest thing. In fact even when I bought them they had the same official 1.66... ROM and were from same batch according to production time and etc.
Despite that I am noticing a big difference in the display colors (regardless of which ROM they are working on). One of them is much more vibrant and its display gamma is much more colorful and appealing. Has anyone noticed anything similar? Why is this so and can it be changed (controlled).
If it was possible to increase the contrast or the gamma or the colors like one would do this on his home TV (or a pc) I was going to change the colors of the second phone too.
But I guess a software is needed to do this? Does anyone have an idea if it is possible to manipulate the display general properties?

Hello everyone,
I've been spending a while trying to find previous posts about this issue, but couldn't find any. Hopefully someone here will have some insight into this problem that at the moment is baffling my friend and I.
I bought an M1000 about two weeks ago. I'm very pleased with it, and haven't had any problems at all - it's great. My friend had a mess about on it and was so impressed decided to get one as well.
His M1000 arrived a few days ago. When comparing the two units however, the screen on my friend's phone was markedly dimmer than mine, and almost seems tinted. After making sure we had the exact same brightness settings and upgrading his rom to the latest available on Orange (mine shipped with the latest version, his was ROM was dated 2003 - I can't remember the version) there was no change - his screen was dimmer, and certain apps were practically unusable (Fade for example).
He took the phone back to our local orange shop and they arranged a replacement. The replacement turned out to have an even dimmer screen than his original (the staff at the store agreed as well) and another replacement was arranged to be delivered.
He got his second replacement today, and that is just the same as the first.
We also noticed that the angle of brightness was different - mine fades when you move the screen horizontally, his when moved vertically. Using the same SPB Plus theme it also appears as if his display has less colours as some areas of the wallpaper appear pixelised whereas on mine there is nice diffusion between shades of colour.
So I guess the question is: have there been different revisions of display on the himalaya series? We checked every piece of hardware and rom info we could and they all matched. Or has my friend been very unfortunate to receive three phones with the same problem?
I can't think of any software I might have installed that enhanced my display and any that we though might have changed a setting (such as nydot) we installed on his unit, again to no avail.
Any insight would be really appreciated. He's really pleased with the M1000, but the seemingly lower quality display is souring the milk somewhat so to speak.
Cheers,
Mista
i remember some posts where people said that htc changed panel manufactor on newer devices
i think that could be the issue
Yes, there was a thread initiated I believe by the user "Pocket TV Team" that discussed the actual number of colours displayed by the Himalaya. Unfortunately that thread (as well as the user "Pocket TV Team") has been lost in the recent crash.
Eventually someone from France stated that a new batch of Himalaya's he had ordered clearly had a less good display (maybe even displayed a lesser range of colours) than the Himalaya he had been working with up to then.
Regards,
Albondigas
I would welcome a dimmer display, mine is just too bright even on its dimmest setting to make it easy on the eyes at night, and in the daytime i find i only ever need half brightness, the only use i find for full brightness is to use the device as a torch at night !!
Mine is 11 months old now, so maybe they have just dimmed the backlight ?
Don't remeber well the post.. but I am sure to have read about 2 different displays used in Himalaya Pocket Pc.. This explains your friends issue.
I think I mentioned this before.
Outside in the sunlight, the Jade is almost unuseable. Can't see any text on the screen. Can hardly see the clock hands. My wife laughs at me - she has an old $50 Nokia with mono LCD display.
I tried auto setting and manual maximum - no difference. The colour LCD screens aren't simply up to it.
I think the factory theme or whatever it is called contributes to it.
Can anybody please suggest a visually pleasing, yet practical interface with high contrast icons etc to be used outdoors?? Something similar to the iPhone, perhaps??
Joe
I don´t think everywhere can help you to solve this problem, except you take a look at the Powermanagement in your Device, turn the backlight to full brightness, that´s all u can do.
Or you must buy a Device with a Transreflektive Display, this Display are reduce the power that need the Display and looks like better if the Sun shine on it.
for example I have seen at a german side this test of devices with a Transreflektiv Display, an the Dev. are followed :
Asus MyPal A730W , Dell Axim X3i , Dell Axim X30 , Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket LOOX 610 , Hewlett-Packard iPAQ H5550 und Toshiba Pocket PC e800 WiFi.
But to the ASUS Devices, I thinke they all are have a Transreflektive Display, I had a ASUS P525 and they have this Display and works perfekt (u can look clearly all) as the Sun shine on it.
I hope this helps
It was 36 degrees today and nothing but sunshine here in Australia as I checked my email and I watched the cricket outdoors ... No problem with the reading display with the brightness set to "Auto" and the default WinMo 6.5 theme!
I did, however, have a problem reading my display previously when I used the supplied HTC protector, but I replaced it with one from eBay about a fortnight ago and it's been perfect and crystal clear ever since!
Could it be your screen protector?
Chris - it looks like the transreflective displays are the way to go, but that means buying a new smart phone. No chance of that for few years for me.
spooky - I am buying a non-reflective screenprotector and hope that will help a little.

I tried to compare my hd2 with my friend's one and...
my phone has less brightness than the other phone with the very same config: same rom, same apps, same pictures, ecc...
my screen is a little bit more "yellow" than the other one. it is noticeable particularly in white images: the colour of my hd2 is warm. the hd2 of my friend has cold color.
the question is: it's a normal thing in lcd production or should i contact assistance?
thank you.
Did you make sure the screen brightness settings were the same ?
settings/sound and display/backlight/backlight adjustment.
Perhaps one of you hasn't got 'Automatically adjust backlight' ticked ??
Hi bro..
surely i set both phones at 100% brightness "fix"

contact whoever you can contact, and try to get a replacement if your warranty is still valid.
thank you for the advise my friend!
HTC might have changed the producer for their screens during the whole time they build the HD2. This would not be unusual as many developers do this...
Suddenly the screen of my "samsung galaxy's" seens to lost resolution, looks blurred and weak colors.
It looks like when changing the resolution of a monitor to display fewer colors.
Please can any good soul help me?
completing information
I also noticed that the button used to end the call, it seems
orange and not red as it should.
I restored the settings but not solved the problem. I'll try to flash the rom again to see if it works, but seems to be a hardware problem that appeared out of nowhere

That do not sound so good. Looks like a hardware failure to me. Do you have the screen on full brightness all the time? Perhaps you could try changing display density in build.prop and reboot. How long do you have your sgs?

Galaxy S screen problem fault
I am having the same problem. Vodafone Australia stock.
The screen has lost its clarity.
Actually, it appears as though every 2nd horizontal line has been lost - this is quite evident when you scroll through a list that has dividing lines (Eg. Scroll through settings - the separator lines alternate visibly as you scroll).
I've had the i9000 for just under 4 weeks and this fault occurred without any reason (not dropped, no water damage, not exposed to heat, etc). The phone was fine one minute and then the next, it became blurry.
The colours all look flat, the background is no longer crisp black, it is light black/grey as if the LCD that had its brightness settings turned up too high.
Also, tried upgrading Android to 2.2 (from 2.1) and that didn't help. This fault appears to be a hardware fault - you can see the loss of resolution when the Galaxy S logo appears when you first turn the phone on (before Android boots). Look at any curved text/lines and you will see that it appears with jagged lines.
Don't waste your time doing the factory reset, upgrades, etc... It is a hardware fault. I spent a bit of time running the screen through the LCD tests " *#*#0*#*#* " and downloading DPI checkers, etc.. The LCD test shows the solid Red, Green and Blue are ok, as was the dimming test.
The image looks grainy as if it was displayed in the wrong or low resolution. It looks like an old school CRT screen at VGA resolution - almost pixelated.
I have installed the Aries bootloader and the small font text displayed also looks grainy and very hard to read.
Have a look at the two images I've attached.
Real shame, I was starting to get attached to this phone.

First step would be to backup and do a factory reset for any major problem .
jje
I already tried that and it did not help.

Don't waste your time. If you got warranty, you are going to get a new Screen or perhaps a new phone. Go for it.

Did you changed kernel? which kernel are you on?
I had a similar experience (not so bad) when trying some kernel with sharpness and color fixes.
You could try flashing hardcore's speedmod k13c Kernel, it also has some sharpness and color fixes but his work very good.
i don't have thi problem
I have the same problem, just purchased a i9000 four days ago, and it fail after 30 minutes of use .
It si very strange, because if i zoom a image, it will also enlarge the banding gradients (like if the image was low quality)
THe problem only appears wirh dark colors, strong colores dont have any problems.
this sounds like a display problem

Bought new yoga 10 HD+. Everything seems to be really ok with it except the display. Colors are extremly oversaturated and are falling deeply into reds, especially on skin tones. Actually, all of the photos with people on them look like there is definitely something wrong with them - see the image attached (yoga at the bottom, all screens set to max brightness).
Is there anything wrong with my model and I should return it ? Or it's just a characteristic of IPS display installed on yoga, and if it's display - is there any way to tweak it ? I use my tablet mostly on trips to browse and upload photos. With issue like this yoga is useless for me in this aspect.
I have the exact same issue. I cannot find any app or menu on the tablet that would change the color profile very annoying
Try filter your screen from Google Play..
Bug
This is due to a bug most likely as it happens to more people including me.
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-A...e-stand-mode-not-working-without/td-p/1690111
What happens is that the color mode gets stuck on one setting and does not get switched to anything unless yo do a full reboot.
I hate it but not much to do except keep rebooting and waiting for a solution.
