Hi guys!
What navigation software do you guys use?
I was using NDrive and it was great, but on Donut, the gps fix position is an headache...
Now I am using CoPilot Live, it fixes the position pretty fast, but I don't like the software itself...
What other offline GPS navigation system exist to android?

Humm, I had a rom that had the sprint nav installed, but never tried...
Does sprint nav works in offline mode?
Does it have maps from Europe? I need maps of Portugal...
telenav is fantastic, its far better than the garmin i have in my car.
With telenav we have to pay a monthly fee and I dont want that. Also, I think they dont have maps of Portugal...
I don't know about other countries, I use it (sprintnav or telenav) in the USA. I don't pay a subscription, just install and go. You do need data to use it. I prefer it over my handheld Navagon GPS. Google maps is a joke and just gets me lost every time I used it.
Since the last iPhone was released that I thought the new Maps (for the iPhone) was very cool. It took great advantage from the compass by auto-rotating the map to where we are facing.
But I swore to myself never to buy another Apple product (as long as there are good alternatives) since I bought an iPod Classic (which I learned to hate, but there was nothing else to fit my needs back then). And so, I know have an HTC Hero and the Google Maps don't provide that same functionality.
I know the compass works, but it's just on Street View and I'm talking about the other views.
Also, a little compass pointing north would be nice to have too
Isn't this achievable with Google Maps?
My google maps does not take advantage of my compass...
is there a setting that I need to turn on??
Install the tool "Spare Parts" from the Market; it has an option called "Show campass in Maps". I didn´t try it yet.
Happy new Year BTW :-D
/Edit:
I just tried it and I don´t know what changed after setting the option; I have seen no difference. Sorry.
You guys might want to try "RMaps" from the market.
It can auto-rotate, add POI, and use other maps other than Google maps. The problem is, I don't think it supports navigation.
OK, I just took a look at some threads about "Spare Parts" and that function should only display a compass, so it´s not what you are looking for and the displaying of the compass doesn´t work since an Google Maps update.
BB.
does anyone's sprint hero ... google maps...
act like the google maps on the other Heros???
I'm trying to find where the navigator app is in a rom that has it and Im not finding it in /system/app or maybe im not looking for the right name, not sure...
the htc navigation icon thingy, if that is what you are looking for, i believe it is called something like htcnavipanel.apk, i am not running a rom with it on it right know to check the name. it seems safe to delete, navigation still runs via Google maps without issue

I have seen it in /data/app
and yeah its the navi panel apk... Many of the roms coming out don't have it anymore, I liked it but when I tried to reinstall it, it did not work... I guess we are just supposed to use navigation out of maps...
I'm a noob, so I could be completely wrong here... but from what I've seen, Google Navigation itself is a part of Google Maps. On most of these ROMs, there is a "default" version of Maps that is installed which is currently out of date which is located in /system/app/Maps.apk. After you install a new ROM, when you go to the Market, you'll see an update is available for Google Maps. When you install that, it installs to /data/app/com.google.android.apps.maps.apk. If you watch the log when the phone starts up, I think it detects the old version in /system/app and it says that it is "ignoring" it. I've deleted the old one in the past and it hasn't made a difference (but if you do this and break something, don't blame me).
The /system/data/HtcNaviPanel.apk app is just the app that is usually used in the car. It has icons which has shortcuts to make a call, maps, navigation, footprints, etc. Outside of that app, I'm not exactly sure if there's a way to launch Maps to get directly to Navigation? Maybe a widget (I've seen some Maps widgets, but haven't played around with them much).
Hello fellahs.
After installing the new version og google maps (version 4210) i now have a navigation app launcher in the app draw, however i live in a country were google maps navigation isnt available, and it tells me aswell when i try to launch it.
So my question is if you people that live a place where maps navigation is available, have always had that app launcher, or did you first get it in this update aswell?
The app looks like a blue arrow and is just called "Navigation".
Iam just wondering if google is gearing up for realeaseing navigation to new locatins.

Its new for this version.
Hey all,
For anyone with Bell vibrant version, do any of you have the problem with the "Google Maps Navigation is not yet available for your location" popping up when you open the app? Obviously this is not true since it's fully available here in Canada, not to mention the fact that it worked fine for me before. On my previous JG9 firmware it worked fine, but it seems to have sort of fudged up after the JH2 update. Now it shows that message, turn-by-turn nav is not available and only gives you the option of showing you directions.
Not that I use navigation much, but how should I go about in fixing this problem? any settings or caches I can clear to make it work again?
yes, same error, the fix is to install a new version from Android market
but it is better to use a decent GPS software like CoPilot, IGo, or anything of that quality.
Thanks for the info. I don't think I use GPS enough to buy a better app for it though, but I'll remember it as reference. I'll download the new version of stock for now.

Google Maps Navigation suddenly stopped working for me on Friday 20th (southern Ontario). Current version is 4.4.0. No update available yet.
It has happened right in the middle of a long weekend trip. It's good I had my old reliable Garmin with me...
I got my phone less than a week ago. Installed Google Maps 4.4 right away. It's worked perfectly since. I'm on whatever firmware the phone came with.
I'm having the same problem on two different phones.
It comes and goes. Restarting the phone usually helps as a temporary fix.
@AllGamer: Google's Navigation may not have some advanced features but I find it far superior to both my Magellan and TomTom.
created a FAQ that answer some of the questions regarding the "Navigator"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=763887
@hoomanb yes, i do like the google navigator, but it's not quite perfect yet, and as you said neither is TomTom
every one of those apps have something i like and dislike
currently using CoPilot, is almost great, but is also missing something i like from TomTom & Google Maps
if they could just combine all 3 of them together...
