I have a Telus Desire, and I am unable to download the BN ereader/Nook. It could be a country thing I don't know, and Barnes and Noble customer service are clueless. I'm hoping someone has it or can download it a share the download file with me.
You can post it here so othwer can use it as well, or email it to me daveevans at rogers dot com
Many thanks
Dave
Yes I am having the same problem with my new HTC Desire from Telus. I own a nook and had the android application on my old rooted HTC Touch running Android 2.2. But I can't get it on my new Desire, not in the market and i can't find a manual download anywhere.
I was able to get the Nook app working but its not easy. You have to have a rooted phone then use the MarketEnabler app to switch your carrier to a US one. Then the nook app will show up in the market. After installing the app you can change your carrier back to your Canadian one and the Nook app still works fine.

hey...so i got my rogers magic monday, unlocked it, set up [email protected] apn and using it for a few days before hacking. i have been to android market several times and i see paid apps available to buy. my phone is yet to rooted. what gives? i expected to only see free apps since my rom is a rogers build. is the paid apps restricted to rogers magic if on rogers network only? or am i only seeing limited paid apps?
@spatali
sorry,i downloaded it and then mounted it on my phone.
yet i cant see the paid applications......
kindly help
I know the issues with the Market, where Android has to add the device to its register for it to be allowed to download certain applications. Does this still happen for the Desire? It appears to because I've followed links from the web to the market (such as eBay) only to find the market is telling me it doesn't exist.
What can I do to fix this? Will I need to root? My guess is it couldn't be to dissimilar to spoofing a user-agent in a web-browser...
Any help is appreciated.
Hasn't the newest problem been fixed? There was a problem with apps that had been updated/added to the market.
Which apps aren't you able to see?

The eBay android application. I followed the link on their website and the market said there was no application. I searched the market to no avail either.
It's happened with half a dozen other applications as well.

I still can't find the Google Earth app - On latest Orange F/W
Is that an official eBay app or the Bonfire Media version? Can't see an official one, but can see BM one.

You'll have to have a FroYo or Nexus rom for Google Earth. Only available on Nexus, but there are a lot of .apk files of floating around the internet.

I'm using CM7 off of an SD card, and I thought I'd load the B&N reader app and consider buying a book to read. Since CM7 doesn't provide the app, I went to the AppBrain market and it shows me a "Nook for Android by B&N", and then the procedure is to click the 'market' button to try to download it, but it says 'the requested item could not be found'. If I search for it on the CM7 provided 'market', the app doesn't exist.
How do I get this app?
I installed it by searching for "nook" in the Market app. No muss, no fuss. Now, I did that before the recent update, but it certainly shows as installed when I search now.
First, instead of appbrain, try going to market.android.com. That's the official web based market run by Google.
Second, the Nook app was in the Market app on CM7.0.3 on my NC. I installed it with no problems. The app also shows up in the Market app on my Nexus One running CM7.0.3. You might want to try clearing the data on your Market.app, or some other remedies to get it working as it should.
Third - "Since CM7 doesn't provide the app..." I don't know why they would provide the app. It's not what they do.

Up until now I have always used the appbrain app or the market app in the NC. I did once look at the web interface, but since I thought the intent was to 'use the device to manage the device', I never paid too much attention to their corresponding web sites; however, I did once look at the appbrain web site.

Thanks, but a 'it works for me', doesn't help me any.
But your comment above about the web site, did give me a though of something to try.
Although the NC kept telling me the 'app could not be found', the market.android.com web site said something different. It said 'This item cannot be installed in your device's country'.
Considering B&N will sell books in the US and Canada, I am surprised that the app can't be installed in Canada. Maybe somebody, somewhere didn't get the memo about Canada being a friendly country! But at least that explains it, even though the other apps didn't give me a useful clue/explanation. Now the question is how to get around it. B&N were more than happy to accept my credit card # in their original app on the stock NC. But that was B&N, and this may be a Google/Android restriction, who knows?

I didn't mean any slight to the CM7 project or team... it was just the observation part of my sentence.
On the other hand, CM7 does come with phone, camera and other apps, that I can't use, and I can't (obviously/easily) uninstall.
I was going to mention, Nook app doesn't seem to like other countries other than US.
Here is the app ripped right from my device. http://www.mediafire.com/?ysjyohkj4onm1az
Edit: Forgot to mention, install via adb or move onto your SD and install through a file manager.
I use HotspotShield to fake an US ip address and that's it no problems buying stuff from B&N.
Thanks for the .apk file, that worked. Now for my new observations:
1/ I have to click many times before the 'go to shop'/'go to library' reacts.
2/ I've only ever been able to see the 'about' screen once, and the other
button on the top right of the screen 'do not seem to work'.
... but it _is_ progress!

I looked at that service. It seems to be a MS Windows or Mac only product.
So that doesn't help on the Nook, or my other Linux machines - unless HotspotShield
supports standard VPN'ish software without the need for their magic code.
(if so, how?)
Hi all,
got root on the 10.1V! after i got a new rom the machine was recognized my the market and no market enabler or VPN helped get access to usa based apps.
is there a solution my friends? please. nobobdy knows the answer?
If that is a 3g tab, pop out the sim card, connect with wifi using vpn to a US based server
tried that. doesn't work.
is it possible my market has registered the device as a NON US based one? what can i do? seriously? am i asking something too complicated?
Does anyone around has a dummy tmobile or att sim card? Anyone who bought an iphone from grey market? If so, try that. It used to work with my GTab 7. Another thing, go to applications and delete market cache and stop it. Honeycomb behaves differently compared to froyo.

I use Files to install any .apk into my tablet. That's how I got Netflix running, for example.
I think it's related to your google profile
Is there an APK out there that works for Nook Color? I am not sure why the App doesn't work. I am running CM 7.1.
4shared.net should have it. Just search draw something.apk
I only recommended you do it for an app that is FREE on the market, that you can't obtain otherwise, because I do not encourage piracy
The version I downloaded from the android market works perfectly well for me.
Same here; I just downloaded it from the market (I guess it's called Google Play now?)
Isn't this it? (I hope I'm allowed to post links...please let me know if I'm breaking any rules!) https://play.google.com/store/apps/...=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5vbWdwb3AuZHN0ZnJlZSJd
