Spell check? - Vibrant General

My wife is wondering if there is a spell check. She is using swype and has already misspelled a few words. Thanks in advance...
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

In my experience, the swype auto correction and word prediction has been an effective spell checker. Unless she has accidentally taught it misspelled words (which is easy to do), I believe it should only suggest dictionary words. Something I recently learned is that when you type out a word manually, letter by letter, swype automatically learns it.
Nonetheless, a spell checker for email would be nice. Growing up with spell check in word processors and browsers has made me reliant on it

I believe you have to manually type a word, then highlight it, and then press the swype button to add it to the swype dictionary.

I taught it all the acronyms and curse words I often use by just typing them in. No more duck or ducker

Mine just knew them already

Long pressing menu button brings up search instead of just keyboard?

Is this just me or anyone else? Back on my N1 it would bring up the keyboard on top of any screen/app I was on.. On my Vibrant it brings up a search screen with the keyboard..
This disables me being able to use Swype's cursor menu for selecting text, copying/pasting. I don't know if anyone else uses it like that?
On the Swype keyboard, swype from the tips key to the sym key, left to right.

Reading comprehension fail.
He's problem is that a search field opens with a long press of the menu key, making the swype arrow keys useless when you want to use them outside of a text field.

More like a misunderstanding, douche.
He's out of luck though, since like he said long press of menu only brings up search, not the keyboard like the N1. I believe they did this because you international Galaxy S didn't have a search button, so to take its place they made it available by a long press of the menu. Though, I don't know why they didn't remove that on our T-Mobile Vibrant since we already have a separate button for it.

I have this same problem and it's extremely annoying. This phone is full of bugs. Thankfully we have XDA and it's only a matter of time before we get bug fixes.

Vocabulary fail.
Last time I checked, misunderstanding what someone wrote = not comprehending what was read.
I was just joking anyways.
Have fun calling me names like a kid, pointing out typos (a typo on xda?! whaaaat?!), just next time actually RTFA.
Thanks for the insightful responses my fellow Vibranteers. Lol.
I agree it's pretty annoying. A friend was trying an older Android app that assumes you have a physical keyboard, and as a result, there is no way to force the soft keyboard to open.
You have to wonder how Samsung concluded the search button wasn't adequate for accessing search...
Menu lp for me is the keyboard, as it should be for everyone. Lp search is a choice of with vlingo or google voice search.
lp menu for me is search also......very very annoying!
For me as well... (I'm on stock TW)
Menu LP brings up the keyboard -- and the quick-search box in the top half of the screen.
Anybody figure out how to chnge this behaviour?
I have Button-Shorcut set to go to dialer with LP. As there is no hardware phone button,.SP search. + KB. I wish this app was able to map menu button that would be great.
Is your phone Loki? Use Odin. You'll be Thor!
I asked Steve Jobs and he told me that you guys are long pressing the button wrong

Help! Hardware Keyboard no longer predicting text

I installed the htc keyboard and now as a result my hardware keyboard no longer predicts text. I uninstalled the htc keyboard since it was a bit laggy. So far droid x keyboard seems to work the best, at least for me anyways. Because of my experiment I no longer have predictive text / auto correction (I went into settings and checked them) I suppose the only way around this is clearing something or uninstalling and reinstalling the hardware keyboard software? I wish the htc keyboard could've took over the predictive text (option in the keyboard said it would) but it doesnt.

Mine either.
install swiftkey from the market it is a lot like the stock one in many ways but it will give you word prediction on the HW keyboard. it has a cool feature to scan your sms and "learn" your most used words
The very first mod i did was install the droid x keyboard i uninstalled the htc keyboard and droid x keyboard and then reinstalled the droid x keyboard and functionality was restored! Definitely gonna check that app out though, thanks for the tip.

Does anyone know a way to have predictive text for the physical keyboard without having to use another keyboard such as smart keyboard or swiftkey? I really like the gingerbread keyboard and I want to know if I can have that and predictive text for my physical keyboard.

I was recently wondering this too because i like the latest swype, but also want predictive for HW keys... i only just started digging around but i'm sure there's a way to make this happen...
Menu>settings>language & keyboard>built in keyboard (or device keyboard depending on your rom) will auto replace misspelled words, but no predictive text without Touchpal or the like. I personally like Thumb Keyboard. Best theming, IMO.

Swype Dictionary help

I'm still having problems with my swype dictionary not actually deleting words even after I delete them. My MAIN one is my swype will type ti instead of to and it drives me insane!
I have tried running both the new and old swype with the same result. Any ideas?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
are you deleting the word by highlighting the offending then pressing the "swype" button, or by deleting it from the user dictionary?
Whenever I delete by highlighting, then pressing the "swype" button, they stay gone.
Fyi the easiest way to highlight the word is to type it then swype from the "swype" button to the "sym" button then press "select text" then use the arrows.
If that doesn't work then I don't know what to say
Yeah I am deleting it by highlighting it and pressing the swype key.

Are you doing it from the messaging app? It didn't work for me doing it that way, I had to remove a word after highlighting it in the address bar or an email or something.

This may be a stupid question, but are you ALWAYS swyping(word?) or do you sometimes type without dragging your finger? I'm constantly deleting the same words because my thumbs like to typo when I type vs swype. I have noticed that if it's a typo, the swype dictionary loves to store it then throw it out there when you are actually using swype. It's apparently very new word hungry.

thats the only way i know how to add words to the dictionary for swype is to manually type the words in however, the words that im deleting are not being typed after deletion and they still are showing up. i dont understand what would be causing this.

That's really weird. I guess maybe you may want to flash your phone back to stock and redo your rom. maybe something is corrupt. Other than that I'm at a loss. Sorru I couldn't be more of a help.

Swype + 2.3.3 = :(

anyone else using swype?
try double tapping a word to edit; you can't click the words in the list due to the new feature in 2.3.3 where you double tap a word and it goes to cut/copy menu.
frustrating if you use swype, nice if you use the normal keyboard and you get a word totally wrong.
comments?
Just tried that out it is annoying but I didn't use that way to edit anyway, I put the cursor in the word I want to edit and press the swype button. Idk if this is what anyone else does but works for me.

As spoken about by the ui lead designer in his engadget interview, they want to move away from waiting (pressing and holding).
While this is indeed annoying for swype users, the change is for the good of the entire text entry experience in android.
As an alternative, tap the word you want to select, then tap the swype key to select the word to edit. It only makes things a little slower.

Swype Beta is awesome!!

The new Swype Beta keyboard is freakin awesome. Kick that stock gs3 keyboard to the curb. Go here to get it.http://www.swype.com/get-swype/how-do-i-get-swype/ You have to register with your email address to download it . If you used the old version of swype on a different phone and didn't like it, you gotta try this. It's way better than the old swype. The word predictions are right on. It also has a voice record to text feature that works great.
you will have to enable "install apps from unknown sources" . System/security device administration , check "unknown sources".
I used to use touchpal keyboard on my epic4g because swype wasn't what i wanted. But this Swype is fantastic.
Hope you like it too. :good:
yeah in using Swype beta now. It's very nice just wish it has real time voice recognition capability like the stock keyboard.

I've been using Swype for nearly three years, and this newest beta is definitely the best.
My only complaint is the backspace key. I can't adequately describe what bugs me about it, but it's definitely different from the previous releases.
Sometimes it deletes just the last letter, sometimes it deletes the entire word. This applies to holding the button, as well as tapping it.

It might be a bug. It's still a beta release. i see what your talking about. I noticed that if I go back to edit after finisehed typeing, insert cursor, it'll delete one space at a time. But if i'm typing and decide to edit the last letter entered it'll delete the whole word. I'm gonna play with it to see if it's a setting.
I just figured it out. If the wod is underlined it deletes the whole word. If you push the space bar after the last word it'll backspace one space at a time. Give it a shot.

If it's not real time, it's pertty damn close. Did you push the little flame icon on the bottom right of the keyboard to record?

Ditto the backspace key. You used to be able to long-press it to delete backwards by a word (instead of by letter), and the longer you pressed the faster it deleted words. But now, all it seems to do is delete letters. Not as useful.

Works on mine. Unless you mean the Samsung Swype because it does delete one letter at a time? May want to double check that you have the Swype beta as the default.

It seems if you Swype and then hit backspace it will delete the world of you peck out the word it fits a single letter.

that almost makes sense. Since it was entered into the text box as a whole word, backspace deleted the whole word. If it's packed in one letter at a time, backspace deletes it that way.
As I said earlier, if you insert the cursor it will backspace one letter at a time.
I find the Swype action and prediction quite good.better than anything I've ever used. I hated Swype before this. The verbal translation is also very good.
