T-Mobile Buzz and Social Services sucks Battery life - Vibrant General

Something I noticed.
If you install the T-Mobile Buzz and Social Services gateway, it takes more battery life.
I've replicated this a few times, so any other verification would be appreciated. Removing it, the battery drain went away.
Not sure if the background services are very active because the its not showing up in battery life meter.

I agree. I also find that Twidroyd sucks the battery life too, if you have it set to poll very often. I now have mine set to just manual refresh, and I removed the T-mo buzz & social service widget. Battery now lasts in excess of a full day.

what is the package for the buzz/social service widget? is that the "feeds and updates"?

I have it installed on my Vibrant. Yes I do have for battery life. I will uninstall and see if there is any improvement. Will be back tomorrow with findings.

You might be able to turn off "sync updates" to get around the battery drain issue.
APK's are.
com.tmobile.socialhub-1.apk
com.tmobile.pluto.snapi.data-1.apk

Apperently its not only the Tmo social hub that is draining battery life, the Facebook android app is doing it as well. I have noticed better battery life after I uninstall the Tmo social apps. Thanks for the tip.

Any app that does periodic polling/syncing will hurt battery life. (To a greater or lesser degree of course). I haven't found the tmob apps to be worse than expected. Haven't tried facebook, so I dunno on that one.

Battery Life?

I've had the HTC Aria for about four days now and my biggest issues is the battery drains to quickly. At first I attributed it to use because android phones prompt you to use them more often. However, even without use it still drains pretty rapidly. Does anyone know of a solution to this issue software wise. I have already turned off Bluetooth, GPS and Wifi. Are there other solutions
I got mine on Saturday, and I've actually gotten pretty good battery life out of it. I'm still in the habit of charging it every night, like I had to do with my old WinMo phone, but I think I could probably go two days without a charge. And that's with GPS / data always on, Wifi parts of the day, and pretty heavy use, since I'm always playing with it.
Have you tried something like Advanced Task Killer to keep apps closed that you aren't using? You can also adjust your screen brightness and timeout to try and save power.
It says that of my power is used by cellular idle or something like that 50% of it was used by that. Could it be my AT&T service
I don't get more than 10 hours out of mine. When I know I will be out all day, I turn the screen brightness almost all the way down to help conserve energy.
Good as it Gets.
With basic usage (some texting, a few calls and some market browsing or playing a game here and there) about 2 to 2.5 days without charging. Maybe the ones having issues with there phone sucking battery have to many widgets running.
In my current configuration I am only using 3 of my screens and only 3 widgets [favorites (small one), HTC clock/weather widget, and the HTC calendar widget (small)]. I have my work email checking every 30 minutes for syncing. I also have gmail and the default mail app pulling mail. I run ATK but only to kill apps on startup (cause it runs almost everything), other than that you don't need a task killer as you will have to reload these tasks next time and that will drain battery. I don't use it after that to kill anything. I am also running my screen at about 30% brightness.
Just some tips, widgets are nice, but they suck the battery life as well as constant updates. Check to see what you are running and disable/remove what is not needed or adjust sync times.
My battery life is fine. I got two days over the weekend with light usage. You need to look at what services are running and disable any widgets that you dont need. You may also want to look at the sync settings and turn off things you dont use (such as news). You do not need a task killer.
Also, see this post:

some quick tips:
1) disable market notifications - Market -> Downloads -> Notifications -> 'Don't Notify Me
2) Lower the sync times for your social network apps like twitter and facebook (or make them manual)
If you still suffer, have a look at some of the great tips HERE on the Cyanogenmod forums...ignore 1 and 3.

Also one might do *#*#4636#*#* then change phone setting from WCDMA to GSM .... Then that get little more out of battery...
It's critical that you turn off auto-sync; I have found that it absolutely destroys battery life.
Before I was losing maybe 5-10% every hour on standby, but ever since turning off auto-sync, I'm still sitting at 100% battery after 5 hours of standby.
Turning off mobile data/Wi-Fi doesn't make an impact on battery life, in my experience.

Auto-Sync in itself is not going to be a problem.. Depends on what's syncing. EVERYONE will have different battery life because everyone uses their phones differently. Different configurations, different accounts used, different amounts of traffic on those accounts, not to mention actual usage patterns.

90% of people will have *slightly* different battery life.
5% of people will drain it fast.
5% will use it like a voice phone and might even get 16 hrs out of it.
But to turn off all apps makes for an invalid test because then you're testing the phone as if it were a non-smartphone, like a voice only phone.
I think the battery is too small for me and probably too small for most people. I look forward to fat batteries for this great phone.

My wife gets 2+ days out of hers... The battery is not that much smaller than my Nexus One, a more powerful phone, and I'm a power user with a lot of crap running including IMAP push mail, weather syncing... I look in at Market, Facebook, Twitter and manually sync those types of things etc.. I can easily get a full day out of it, off charger ~8am back on the charger midnight, 20-30% left. What I don't do is sit staring at my phone all day or play games for 8 hours at work, nor do I use it as a mp3 player..

"Android System" draining battery... Facebook is a potential culprit

Hey, I was wondering if anyone else was having a problem with sub par battery life. I have not been satisfied with my G2 battery life, I only get about 12-13 hours and I am not a really heavy user. I have disabled wifi, bluetooth, gps, cell location, and syncing for everything but my gmail and exchange (set to push), and it didnt affect my battery life at all.
I noticed that "Android System" was taking up 35% of my battery, which I am pretty sure is not normal, so I decided to try a different battery monitoring app to get more details. I downloaded PowerTutor and it was showing that Facebook was using a LOT of battery life over the period of about 10 minutes, which was strange considering that I had turned off all notifications, turned off the refresh, and turned off syncing. It shouldn't have been doing anything.
I logged out of the facebook app and it no longer seemed to be doing anything. My facebook version is 1.3.2. Hopefully this will give me some better battery life (right now i am at 24% at 3:00pm after unplugging at 6:30am, but PowerTutor ate a good bit of battery life while it was monitoring)
Just thought I would post for people who might have abnormally low battery life, and see if anyone else had the same problem.
The facebook app is terrible anyways, I won't miss it. I just use a shortcut on my home screen to m.facebook.com
I'll post back tomorrow and see if my battery life has improved.
i get 12-13 hours, moderate use... but i do have facebook refreshing hour... I had no idea it was eating battery while sitting idle though :-\ that's something for me to look into
I also didn't know 12-13 hours was considered low (new to Android)
Thanks for the heads up
I've been doing a little digging on the Adroid System battery drain issues over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801244. I don't use the Facebook app at all, but I have noticed a Facebook still periodically pops up in logcat. If I get around to it I'll login to the Facebook app and enable updating to see how often it show up then.
Get the currentwidget app and put it up as a widget at the home screen (I come from WM 6.5.5). Set it up using the default setting. Click the power button and let it sleep. Wake it up in 4 minutes and check your Ma shown in the widget. I'm getting 35Ma and my battery seems to be doing fine.
Its tells you how much power is being used by your phone when it sleeps. Also remove any task killer on your phone. You don't need it.
My battery has also been draining pretty fast. Android system says its using 45% percent of the battery. Don't know what to do?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I just did some more testing with PowerTutor. The e-mail app (not gmail) is using up TONS of power when my phone is locked. I think it may have to do something with Exchange and ActiveSync. It's a hotmail address that I'm synced to. I guess I'm going to forward it to a gmail account or something. Its sapping battery life with both Push settings and Every 10 Minute settings.
lol. app dev for facebook hates ios and android. though the fb for android does suck(doesn't have half the things ios version has) but its still better then nothing. fb app is pretty buggy so not surprised that it would take up so much juice.
You could also use watchdog and kill Facebook if it's the culprite. It will also tell you if something else is to blame.
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
I think that Facebook is the culprit. At least for me it was. I was sitting at android system using ~35% and once I logged out of the Facebook app I checked back about 5 or so hours later and it went down to 12% or so.
But i like that FB app only thing I disliked was getting sent to the web when checking notifications. Maybe social scope will alleviate that
It's looking to me that Facebook was using a decent chunk of battery. Android system is down to 19% for me today after signing out of facebook. I've been listening to music all morning too so thats probably why its still high-ish.
When I get home from work I'm going to monitor my battery again and see if the e-mail app is still using up battery.
If someone else has logged out of facebook and saw battery usage go down, then I think it is safe to say that the app is buggy.
wow... so are you telling me my battery life will go from 12+ hours to 16-17 if i log out of facebook? YOWZERS
When I posted this thread yesterday I was at 24% at 3pm. Right now, at 1pm after logging out of facebook last night and unplugging this morning at the exact same time, my battery is at 68%. I have been listening to music all morning too, browsing the web periodically, and I got a few short phone calls. So unless my battery life tanks 40% in the next 2 hours, I think that being logged in to facebook definitely seems to be eating up battery on the G2.
My testing is hardly scientific, though. But I have had the phone unplugged for 6 hours and 40 minutes and im only down to 68%. Not bad at all.
Someone else should try testing a day logged in to facebook (with notifications, syncing, and refresh all off) and a day logged out of facebook.
edit: also, my Android System is down to 15%. much better.

I'm not sure, I don't use twitter. And I haven't tried turning off background data, I'm trying to narrow down my battery issues to an application specific level. I'd rather turn off facebook for being a battery hog than turn off all of my background data.

Am testing that one out. However, I have just the syncing on but I don't think that syncs constantly. We'll see how my phone fares with that setting I have now with notifications and refresh both being off but still logged on the Facebook app. My phone averages around 10-12 hours per charge even with using Trillian and AndChat and quite a copious amount of texting during the event hours. I changed the Facebook settings last night. We'll see how the day goes with the battery.
For me, just turning off notifications and refresh didn't help battery life. I had everything turned off and it was still draining battery (what it was doing? I have no clue... shouldn't have been doing anything.. I think the application has a bug)

Google Services/Google Play Service/Google Framework Services draining battery

Bear with me. If you are an expert on android maybe you can help me out here. First off, I have researched the crap out of this problem and still been unable to fix it, so YES, I did search before making this thread.
I am on a stock, rooted Verizon Galaxy S4. I have been watching my battery consumption carefully via the integrated battery settings menu, battery stats plus and wakelock detector apps. Mainly, there is a program or set of programs that typically is called "Google Services" that according to the integrated battery menu is consuming anywhere between 20-45% of my battery, sometimes more than the screen on time! My battery life is around 48hrs with 10hrs screen time but that is on the massive zerolemon 7500mah battery which I just bought, so I am not sure if that is above, below or just average (i.e. I have no real standard by which to judge).
Like I said I have read probably every thread about this problem with remedies such as; disable location, turn off google now, turn off google maps reporting, uninstall updates for google play/google play services/google framework settings, turn off google sync etc. I have tried them ALL, none seem to work. I have a feeling the issue is perhaps more in depth and above my head.
It gets more complicated. Although the stock android integrated battery menu reports it as using a massive amount of battery, the other two apps I mentioned above do not even report it, or at least not under a name that I regonize (perhaps that categorize it under a different process?). Under them screen time is by far the highest consumer.
So what to make of this? Is it a false report that the stock integrated android battery menu is reporting, and thus something to disregard? I doubt that because there are many other threads out there of people with the same problem and questions I have. But It's also not like my battery drains within hours. For instance, today I have been off the charge for 12.5hrs, with 3hrs and 40min of screen time and have 63% remaining on the 7500mah zerolemon extended battery.
If you can help, please do. If this is indeed a major drain I would really like to fix it.

Yes that seems to work, but it's not really a "fix" as now I cannot use the location feature of many of my apps. Basically traded one problem for another, albeit lesser one.
I'm still trying to figure it out as since last update (MEA firmware) , my phone is heating a lot.
I had this problem with data connection on, I had this problem in airplane mode, but not strangely with having connection to wifi.
I also observed that google services and android system is consuming most of the battery. earlier when I used to get 8-10% consumption in full use in an hour, now, 8-10 % is consumed within 30 mins.
No tweaks are working. Frozen a bunch of apps but the problem is still there.
Just now I've uninstalled fileexpert HD , as "greenify" told me that since last 20 minutes my phone is on, it has taken 250+ wake locks.
I'm charging my battery to full to check if that solves my problem.
will try to disable location services and report back on the results.
Bump
Have the exact same problem, before the latest firmware my phone had awesome battery life, and now the battery goes from 40% to zero in just a few hours without any app running when I'm sleeping... it's horrible. Same problem with my wife's S4 since the latest update... It absolutely sucks.

Stopping services from Task Manager helps battery

Recently been getting battery drain while on Idle. This drain I tend to notice at night. My phone can idle duriing the day but does not drain battery.
I recently disabled Android system IQ agent .. and it seems to have helped at night after rebooting and stopping that service.
I also noticed when you go to task manager and go to settings there is an option to stop services. I checked Facebook (51 services wth). Google Play Books , Magazines, and Movies\TV. I also checked Google play services (65 services).
Believe it or not my phone seems to be running fine and my battery life is a lot better.
Now I set my brightness at 47% (not auto), Google Now is enabled with Wifi and mobile location. Google backup is enabled (most are unchecked including app data) Email is manual sync.
Just thought I"d pass this along. YMMV.
Thanks for your tips. I noticed random battery drain these few days, no idea what it is, high battery drain when idle, and it happens randomly. Will try and report back. Thanks

Give GSam Battery Monitor from Playstore a go. It can give you an overview of whats using your juice.
Alternatively you can use Better BatteryStats: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
If you are rooted just install the XDAedition from post #2
If not rooted then follow instructions in post #4
Definitely some rogue app running in the background...
As mentioned above, use an app to monitor your battery. But I would also suggest installing an app to monitor your data usage, because sometimes your connections and data transfers are the culprits in battery drain.
Let us know what is the cause of this issue

Ok, so I've been observing my battery for over 2 days now, and it seems that the problem is my cellular connection. I took the sim card out and noticed that the battery hasn't drained for several hours. But I wonder why my galaxy s8 is having this problem, the sim card I'm using on my galaxy s8 is the one that I've been using on my galaxy s7 for the past several months and I didn't experienced the same problem on my galaxy s8

This is a strange issue because usually battery drainage happens because of background updates and data transfer of certain apps.
Can you try turning off your mobile data connection and see if the drainage persists? You need to isolate the issue in order to identify it
can confirm that switching data to 2G network vs 3G/LTE has drastically improved my standby time, massively, especially if there is no 3g/LTE in the area, the phone hunts continually for 3G/LTE thus draining battery, but after switching to 2G no problems, just means that internet is damn slow...
You can try hibernating apps that you rarely use. Also, phones tend to seek LTE; if it happens to be that you are in an area with bad carrier coverage, turn off your LTE.
On the other hand, try to uninstall unused apps and turn off Always on Display.
edit: also, check the battery usage of your apps. In my case, Facebook, Tinder (lol), Spotify, Messenger, and Snapchat are the apps that consume my battery a lot. Device Maintenance usually prompts me that about an app excessively using the battery. Nevertheless, hibernating apps would definitely help.

Do you know if the device would still be searching for LTE constantly if Wifi is connected? I'm just curious, I live in an apartment that has almost 0 data, and phones tend to pick and choose whether they want to be on 3G or LTE here. Definitely would be a drain, but I don't know if it matters if I'm on my wifi network..

I don't know, I just found this website and found out that there are just few LTE/3G bands that my phone supports, could this be the reason why? anyone?
My usage for the last 2 days until I decided to put a SIM card and enable data
Wow, this thing's battery is inconsistent. Good one day, bad the next. Within 2h 26m, my phone dropped 12% with only 27:38 screen on time. I listened to maybe 4-5 songs in Google Play Music.
Anyone know why Samsung DeX Home would be taking up so much space, and why playing only a few songs *that have been downloaded* is causing a decent drain through GPM?
Not sure what the deal is with Android System Kernel, but it looks like the wakelock is from audioserver.
My S8+ battery performance was not very good since I started using the phone. Installed GSAM and granted it the needed permission via ADB. Recently battery drain has been terrible because mainly of Google Play services as well as FB. Battery only lasted for barely the whole day and sometimes I had to recharge during the evening.
After a lot of search and trial and error including disabling all Bloat ware apps using BK Disabler (as per a post at the beginning of this thread) and which caused more problems actually, I re-enabled all apps again. I installed Greenify with Agressive Doze enabled and Greenifying system apps enabled, but that didn't help either.
Finally, that's what I did and which gave me for the first day since I used the phone 4h15m of SOT and still 54% of my battery remaining!
1- Apps installed: Greenify, BK Disabler (with plug-in), GSAM and Play Services Info.
2- with BK Disabler I disabled all FB related apps (Facebook, FB App Installer, FB App Manager and FB services) and installed instead any 3rd party app like FB Lite, Swift FB, Metal or Friendly.
3- Disabled FB Messenger and installed Messenger Lite.
4- In Greenify, I disabled Agressive Doze and Greenify system apps.
5- I installed the latest Google Play Services Beta app version 12.2.09.
6- I am using Power Saving mode with FHD+ but will try tomorrow without it.
The battery drain was dramatically decreased knowing that I am using 3 email accounts (Gmail, Hotmail and Good for Enterprise), LinkedIn, Instagram, 2 What's app accounts via Parallel Space, Swift FB, Messenger Lite, Telegram as well a bunch of other apps. I am usually using 4G and Wi-Fi while at home with a lot of FB and web browsing.
Hope this post shed some light and help on battery drain issue with the S8+.
Ciao
Note: I had 8+ hours SOT yesterday!!
