I turned the system volume down so that clicking sound will not be too loud, but after a while it gets louder so I checked the system volume again and sure enough it's back to max. I turn it down again, but soon it's back to max again. Anyone know what is causing this?
I know when I tinker with Maps it raises the System Volume to max. Sometimes I don't see it, but when i reboot my phone it is.

This seem tone the problem with me as well. Anytime I active the navigation is sets the system volume up. I think it may be because it needs the volume for the voice / notifications for upcoming turns and stuff.

Is there a way to make the system volume adjustment actually stick? I like the clicks, but defaulting to the max is just too loud.
I use an app called Timeriffic from the market. I setup all my volumes and well when the time changes and the days it adjusts as needed. Works great because I have my system volume set to low and when I use Maps it will adjust the next time it boots or the time.

Thanx. It still sounds rather complex for a simple setting.
I spoke with Tmo yesterday and she said no one else had reported that bug. It didn't bother me as much before but now that I can actually use the gps it's a nuisance. I also just sent a note to Samsung today...hope it gets on the to do list for the next update.
Well where I work they don't want it loud when your phone rings.
I have my phone setup like the following since I work in an office.
8am-430pm Mon-Fri
Ring
Vibrate
Ring 50%
Notification 25%
Media 15%
System 15%
430-8am
Ring
Vibrate
Ringer 100%
Notification 100%
Media 80%
System 15%
I have the other Party Time and Sleeping in Disabled since well I really never use them.
As well when I flash a new Rom, which happens all the time I just re-install my apps and this takes over and sets all my volumes so I don't have to tinker with it ever. Volumes seem Low I just adjust whatever and from there on its always where I want it.
Take Vacation I just Create a new profile and uncheck Weekdaze and set everything to 100% minus System Volume and I'm back.

I know there has been similar topics mentioned in the Vibrant Q&A and Captivate General but neither directly effect my request.
Here's the story:-
Prior to putting Froyo JPO on the SGS last week and running a stock JF3, when the phone was connected to any mains for charging as soon as the SGS was fully charged it gave a single loud 'Ping' noise and nothing further.
However, since applying Froyo JPO when I carry out the same procedure and charge the phone, as soon as it is fully charged it instead gives off a continuous loud alarm which is extremely annoying.
The only way to stop the noise is to unplug the phone from the charger which frankly at times is difficult to achieve.
Any ideas how to get it back to either the single 'ping' it used to make or stop it altogether...
If anyone is thinking "just turn off the sound" as the answer ~ I need the sound on in case I receive a phone call, email or text message.
EDITED: Sorted ~ See Page 2.
What about turning down system volume or is this classed as a notification? Fyi - not experienced this myself, but your not the first person to find issues with the battery full sound.

It's not really the answer as I never had to turn it down prior to Froyo JPO.
On the contrary, I would prefer the phone to carry out a single 'Ping' just to let me know the battery is charged... not the incessant non-stop noise it now makes.
this scared the **** out of me the other night as I was falling asleep. :S

I can easily believe you.... My GrandDaughter was fast asleep right next to the charger when it went off.
I've never seen her wake up so quick!
In settings/sound scroll down to Notification ringtone, is that not the sound setting for full battery? choose a different one, then choose the original chosen one and see if its the same annoying tone. I must admit, i charge mine when i am asleep so the sound settings are all off so i haven't heard the full battery alert since updating to Froyo.

No.. that's not the sound... In fact non of the supplied sounds come from Android System Sounds.
Anyway..... I think I may have found the answer ~ Under 'Feedback' de-select 'Audible Touch Tones' & 'Audible Selection'.
God knows why they are changing it but I deselected them both and noticed when I topped up the battery this time the sound changed to what it used to be... a single 'Ping'.
Further tests required to prove this.
I've been suffering with this too since going to JPO. I never had this problem on JF3 or JM1. It's been waking me every night since last week and driving me mad
I already had audible touch tones and audible feedback disabled; are you saying that you have to enable then disable them to get back to the single 'ping' sound?
EDIT: I've just noticed that you can set settings/sound notification ringtone to "silent". Maybe this will shut it up?

It will shut it up but it will also kill all other notification sounds.
If unticking the Audible touch tones & Audible selection does not work for you, instead of selecting Notification Ringtone to be silent instead select 'Cloud' and try again.
I'll be recharging in the next two hours so should know later tonight.
I'm sure it's the notification ringtone, i changed mine from the cloud (which was already selected and being used) to a different one and when the battery fully charged i got the tone i chose.

If that is the case then it would indicate prior to selecting a notification the phone uses that horrendous continuous alarm I mentioned.
We are saying selecting a notification changes the battery alarm.
I try'll selecting a different alarm and see what happens.
I experienced the same problem on my SGS after updating to FROYO. This is how I managed to solve it:
-Go to settings
-Sounds
-Notifications - Tone for notifications
-change to "bubbles" for example
I noticed that no tone was selected when I entered the tone list...
Now, when my battery is fully charged i get the 'bubbles' tone only one time so it won't force me to get up at night to pull out the charger...
Hope this helps...

Yes, you are correct.... It must be when after performing a Factory Reset it changes the Notification sound to No Tone which because there is nothing selected it gives off the incessant none stop alarm.
Sorted.
I hate the notification sound when the battery charge is complete and am trying to completely disable it, but I need/want the general notification sound when a text arrives at the current tone/volume.
Is this possible or are they 100% interlinked?
Any clue anyone?
mine with js3 just does a quick beep beep when it fully charged it doesnt do the notification i select in the options, they only time i hear that one is when i plug my phone into usb on my pc. sounds like i got a lucky break anyway
I was woke up at 3am this morning by the damn charging complete noise.
I do not see a way to turn down system notifications all the way in froyo?
turning down system volume in volume basically turns everything down. anyway to resolve this? This is a huge issue as i cannot turn off my phone at night due to on-call needs and really don't want to be woke up by a stupid beep. Thanks.

System volume is for boot noises and I believe the charge complete noise.
It won't turn down incoming call or notification volumes.

i thought the first time i did that my meeting reminders were no longer making noises but maybe i was just to tired at 3am and not thinking straight. thanks.
We will have to wait for another Mod for the charge complete notificiation.
Give it a day or two.
y not just use audio manager, its an app that lets u turn down the noises on the system, alarm, and notifications.. it comes with a widget too. there is a free and full version, no difference to me
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897829&highlight=TW_Battery_caution
It would be nice to get rid of the notification, beyond just the sound. I have my dock set up as an alarm clock, with screen saver, but the notification coming on overrides the screen saver function...

On 2.1 I set my system notification volume to 0 after the first time it happened. When updating to 2.2 it sets it back to max, at least for me it did.
Gotta love the world of re-tweaking
Sent from my Epic 4g Runnin Froyo...rooted for my pleasure!!
What I would like to know is how to make the phone use the text to speech to let me know who is calling. On 2.1 there was an option for this but after updating I can't find it anymore and my calls just ue the normal ringtone again. It would, in the past say "Call from John Doe or call from 555-222-3333" depending on if the caller was saved in my contacts or not. (& no I don't want to install an app to take care if this if possible because this was built in, sort of, when text to speech was installed and set up in the setting menu on 2.1)

I am told when charging of the phone is complete it vibrates for a few seconds. Anyone know how to turn this off as no-doubt it will waken me?
Thanks.
Not only that, but it makes a stupidly loud pinging noise, too. It woke me up at 3am this morning. I can't find anything in the settings to turn it off.
Anyone?
I don't know why Samsung and LG thinks this is useful.
i dont wake up for anything!! i havent noticed this once yet. does it only ping/vibrate when you are charging when the phone is on? or when it off also?
Only when it's on. I think that the pinging noise is controlled by the System volume slider in the settings menu, I had it up to full which is probably what caused it to wake me. I've put it down to about 2 now but am yet to test to see if it's quieter.
I can't find anything to turn off the vibration though.
I'm yet to get my phone, so can't check, but have you checked in the sound settings? There's apparently an option for Vibration if I'm understanding page 129 of the manual.
" Vibration: Set when the device will vibrate for various events"
I'm hoping the fully charged event is one of these.
OK, so the ping isn't controlled by System, it's controlled by Notifications. Which is really stupid because if you turn the volume down on that how are you supposed to hear when you've got a text message?
Disabling 'Haptic Feedback' in the Sounds menu seems to disable the vibration part of the notification. It also disables vibration on all other UI interactions, though.
Anyone got a solution to this really annoying problem?
do you really have to have your phone so close to you when you sleep???

If you can try and get me something to go on, I can perhaps try to find out what is causing this vibration...

I don't have anything to go on other than that the phone makes a loud beep two times and vibrates when charged.
I mentioned it in one of previous topics covering this problem and I will mention it once again.
SGS i9000 had the same problem in one of the first firmwares. Vibrations and sounds when battery charged have disappeared starting from (I think) one of the first Froyo updates from Samsung.
Samsung will hopefully address this problem sooner or later.
I had autostarts purchased, from back when I had to worry about what was running. Looking it seems on plugging the phone to usb or charger it launches "Mtp application" guess that would be a good place to start.
On a slightly different note. Once the phone is fully charged, it stars to drain again. Is there an alarm clock app that keeps the phone around 98% then starts charging again 30 mins before the alarm is due?

But doesn't you change the sms sound from the sms app? Thats how it works usually in Androids. The notification sound is for any other notifications, but you can change different for the sms sound. Thats how it works in Nexus S at least. Same for the gmail app also.
I guess this is in services.jar
I will take a look shortly.

Have your mobile on silent. (Alarms will ring in silent mode)
Go to settings - sound - vibration - Only when not in silent mode
It won't vibrate nor make a sound whilst your asleep

Please. I would be more than happy to send a donation!
There might be a solution if you are rooted...
In the folder /system/media/audio/ui there's a file called Charger_Connection.ogg and you can rename that to Charger_Connection.ogg.bak (personally I use adb and the 'mv' command, Root Explorer should work fine too).
Plugging in the USB cable now doesn't make a noise, just waiting to see what happens when it's fully charged...!
UPDATE: Nope, it uses a different noise... still looking...
I am so pissed off that I took the OTA!
I absolutely MUST be on vibrate mode during working hours. I used to use two apps (Volume Toggle and Volume Timer) that gave me exactly what I needed... for all my f'n Android phones up to this point.
Now.. all of a sudden.. RANDOMLY throughout the damn day, my S5 will change itself to full f'n volume for no reason. I sometimes hear a noise similar to when I get a txt msg but I don't recognize the particular noise....I can't have this crap going off when I'm at work. What the hell did they do in 5.0?
I tried another app called Smarter Profiles, but the same thing happens.. I start my day in vibrate mode and then randomly I hear some click sound and it goes into regular mode.
I see nothing in the new priority mode whatever-the-hell that would impact my settings. 8am -> go to vibrate.. 6pm -> go back to normal.. it's not rocket science. Ugh.
/rant
Does anyone else have the same issue? I love having a simple sound profile like this and I have used this capability for years!

Google really messed up the whole silent/vibrate/volume thing big time. None of the notification state management apps have a handle on it yet. I use timeriffic and i have the same issues. I would imagine that the developers of apps should have been more prepared for this as none of them fully support lolliflop yet. Debating on going back to KK just for this reason. Googles stab at the "Impotant" feature is totally half baked and useless. I mean who has the brilliant idea that setting the phone to mute cancels ALL notifications including led function! Pure genius!
Have you tried Tasker? I haven't updated to L yet (waiting for the forthcoming xposed update), but I have a number of work/school volume profiles that keep everything running smooth automatically. If Tasker is as much of a beast on L as it is on KK, it might do the trick for you until Google releases a patch.
I've had my Mi A1 for over a year now and have almost always had it on vibrate, so all calls/notifications cause the phone to vibrate, but any media that gets played will be at the volume set for media.
Over the past couple of weeks though, notifications (not sure about calls, don't get many of them) will play the notification sound at the volume set for media. I can only get them to shut off if I mute the media volume. I've tried changing the volume for both media and ringing, and restarting the device, but to no avail. I either have to leave it muted and miss notifications, or leave it unmuted and get a jumpscare each time (it also plays notifications when I'm on a call, and you can imagine the jumpscare I get with my phone at my ear and a sudden loud notification).
I recently started using Bose QC35 ii headphones through Bluetooth with my phone, but I don't think that has anything to do with it because it was working fine with them before.
I've searched Google for this kind of issue but couldn't find anything other than standard instructions on adjusting the volume. Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this (without doing a full reset of the phone, hopefully)?
EDIT: this is a stock ROM, I've never flashed anything new on it

So I solved this by going into Settings > Accessibility > Vibration and turning Ring & notification vibration off, restarting, and then on again. I was able to use the Pushy app to send test notifications so that I didn't have to wait for a friend to send me a message or something of the sort. My vibration mode now works as intended (not sure about calls, I don't know how I can test those without having a friend call me), and loud notifications according to the volume set for the ringer.
So as it turns out, today I once again got sound notifications, despite having set my phone to vibrate only. What could be resetting the sound profile like this (note that the ringer volume is still at zero) that the notifications play sound at the media volume? Anyone have any idea on this?

Why not just set them individually, it won't take long, when I first got my A1 I did just this.
Each time I got a notification I just pulled down and pressed the notification and customised it, most I turned off, the rest I either set to vibrate, a custom sound or left as it was.
Calls are easy to take care of, set ring volume to zero and it only vibrates.
For me:
I want a sound when I get a SMS.
I want a custom sound when I get a call.
I want no notification of gmail, (it would be going off constantly)
I only want Vibrate from WhatsApp messages.
Can't think of others but I think everything else is silenced.
If that is no good try "Volume butler" which will add a seperate volume control for notifications, not used it myself but it should do the trick: https://www.guidingtech.com/separate-ringtone-notification-volume-android/

The only downside of doing them individually is that I can't turn them all back on with one setting, as on some infrequent occasions I do want to hear them because I be expecting a message and not necessarily feel the phone in my pocket. and it seems I have to wait for the actual notification to come up? (can't seem to find the setting under the standard notifications settings menu).
I'll have a look at Volume butler, but it sure is disappointing that this would break when it was a nice feature to use.

You're welcome, and seems that possibly if you unpair your BT device and reboot, you could get your notifications back to normal, but then you don't have your headset available...
Since the issue started outside of a system update, there is a chance it was introduced by a Google App or Play Services update, in which case hopefully Google will fix it soon since it's affecting a lot the Pixel phones.

Ah, I forgot to mention that I have a workaround for this that I came across in one of the dicussions somewhere. Inside Settings > Google > Search, Assistant & Voice > Notifications I can turn off notifications for Google completely. I've also turned off Google Assistant under Settings > Google > Search, Assistant & Voice > Google Assistant. I don't remember which of those actually resulted in the behavior not returning, but I'm pretty sure I don't need either, so I'm OK with it for now. (actually, do Google Security notifications come under the Google app or some other one?)
PS: reboot is actually not necessary, it seems force stopping Google Assistant or Google resets the notification settings (but yes, I want my headset hahaha).
Seems it's been fixed by Google: https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/...s-with-duplicate-alerts-and-ignored-settings/
