Battery issue - Vibrant General

The phone incorrectly displays battery level on notification bar. My bat said 35% but shows as more than half full. Has anyone else noticed this? Fix available?

disable button backlight

Is there any way to disable the backlights behind the Dedicated touch buttons located at the bottom of the vibrant. ?
I am very annoyed by the way it lights on and off. I can easily navigate without it and im thinking that it would also consume less battery life.
Thanks
Blinding to you too huh?
I've found not. They "were" the quintessential "look" of uber tech awesomeness, but now I"m just going blind at night. Haha. Guess that comes with age.
I think it is a software modification as black night notification can be turned on. So as such, maybe it can be turned off as well.
So far, haven't heard anything about it's implementation though.
If I find something, I will report back.
I'd also love these turned off or ate least down. Adjbrightness can do this with other phones but not, apparently, the sgs line.

Short of opening up the phone and putting in a resistor, it currently isn't possible to reduce the brightness of the LEDs. That's because the interface for controlling the LEDs is too slow. Normally LEDs are dimmed by blinking them really fast, as other methods are hard on the lights.
What I suggested doesn't work. Edited accordingly.

Make a backup of the file first.
If you look in /system/lib/hw/ there is a file called lights.s5pc110.so. back this up, then delete the original file and see if this disabled you button back light.
(i honestly don't know if this will work or not)

Do not do this. The file doesn't do what you think it does and removing this file will cause a boot loop.
I'm also interested in this. Anyone know anything yet?

[Q] Anyone else having locking/freezing issues with CM 7.1 RC1?

I updated to CM 7.1 RC1 last week and I've noticed a few times where the device has locked up after "going to sleep". Essentially, if I leave it on the coffee table with WiFi on and let the screen turn itself off, it won't respond when I return to it 20-30 minutes later. I have to force reboot via the power button + nook button.
Just curious if anyone else has noticed it or if it's just me. If it's a common issue I'll escalate to the CM folks, if it looks like just me I'll start the long and tedious process of uninstalling apps one by one. =)
I have at least one every day. I figure its just a price I pay. Over all its the best rom I have used.

Only once have I had the issue you described. I leave WiFi on some of the times, but majority of the time I have it off when I am done using it. I know some people have mentioned using Tasker or something similar to turn WiFi off when screen goes off so that it can perhaps be prevented.
EDIT: I don't believe I can link yet on my account, but search General for the post "NC, CM7, Dalingrin OC kernel.. Sleep of Death" and start about post #6.
Thanks bio, that looks like the exact issue I'm experiencing.

That's a pretty generic statement... what did you blacklist within Droid wall to increase battery life / fix the issue?
I'm facing random freezes when I open an application like tweetdeck or mercury and leave it updating from the internet. After some time, I'm not using it, it just stucks. To get it back to life I have to press for a few seconds the power button to shutdown it and then again to power it on. I have used different nightlies, voltages or governors but it is still here.
Now, I don't have freezes since yesterday that I really reduced the voltages but I'm not sure if my problem is solved.
configuration: 144 nightly 300-1100mhz xlv profile
not sure if anyone has told you that what you describes is called:
Sleep of death.
Felt to be possibly related to wifi being on all the time. In wifi settings, go to advanced change it wifi to off when screen off.

I'm sorry. I use the white list feature and only check mark the current application that I want to use and allow to access the internet. It keeps everything else from using background data.
For example right now I selected xda and updated rules.

It seems that I solved it reducing the voltages. When sod occurs a black screen appears right? I never had sod, only random freezes.

Let's solve the battery drain when screen is off!

Please close this thread because someone has posted similar ones before. Didn't notice that, sorry!
For related information please go to these 2 threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1243577

And much thanks to Clienterror and ElQuixote!
-----------------------------------
Greetings, everyone!
I'm posting this thread because I've found out that battery drain on 2.3.4 when the screen is off might have something to do with the phone being AWAKE most of the time.
My Atrix is ATT version, using Alien #3 (obsoleted, I know that, but the drain happens among all 2.3.4 builds) and stock kernel. On Android 2.2, my battery used to be much more long-lasting, and in the "Battery Use" panel, "Phone Idle" used to consume much less power than it does now.
Then I downloaded "BetterBatteryStats" from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809. From its readouts I find that the time when phone is awake may be 2 times as long as the time when the screen is on.
I looked into some details in "Partial wakelocks" in the app, and the "AlarmManager" seems to be keeping the phone awake all the time. I know that AlarmManager is a system service designed as a timer for all the apps, but which app would use this service to keep the phone awake all the time, which is conspicuously not necessary??
I have no idea on it, and is in need of your help. It would be very kind of you to post your idea on this issue here!
Try looking here, there's a small discussion about it already. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1243577 hope that helps you some.

[Q] Compass calibration - frequency and using a certain app?

I had a question regarding calibrating the compass. I've read the threads and seen the video about the compass calibration, but I did have 2 questions that I haven't been able to find the answer to yet:
1) How often does the compass need to be recalibrated? Is there anything that affects it - meaning, any actions or anything that may require the compass to be recalibrated more or less frequently?
2) GPS Status has a Compass Calibration option, and I've seen similar options in other apps. Do these options do anything like put the phone in a recalibrating-the-compass mode? Or can the compass calibration be done at any time? Does the screen need to be on? Does the phone even need to be on (don't know why I'd calibrate then - just curious since I don't understand what the calibration does)?
Does anyone know?

You would probably get a fast response if you posted your question in the correct section (Q & A) thank you will in general, jus sayin.
Personally I recalibrate (via the figure 8 method) any time I notice the compass is off. I leave my screen on (usually in Maps) and wave the phone around and it gets pretty accurate after recalibrating.

Pretty much anytime you haven't used the compass for a while, you will need to recalibrate. I use a combination of holding the phone straight out and waving it vertically (referenced to the ground) in a figure 8, then just holding it arm straight out and turn my body 360 degrees so that the phone has gone thru all the points of the compass.
Note, this is not the same thing as fixing the upside down calibration which only needs to be done once.

Oops, sorry about that...I should have posted there, but I can't move the thread now
When using Google maps, I have to "figure 8" my phone 90% of the time. Sometimes to get it to point the right direction or to just get the "pointer" to unfreeze.

ICS Roms Battery tips and tricks request

I thought it might be useful to start a thread dealing with any tips and tricks anyone might have found when using ICS Roms with the Kindle Fire. I know that the kernel is still a work-in-progress, so I know it will definitely get better over time. This info is likely spread across multiple threads, so hopefully we can consolidate a bit to make it easier for everyone to find.
What I'm hoping is that folks can list suggestions like CPU Frequency, CPU governors, apps, and other tweaks that everyone else might find useful. Thanks.
great idea
everyone should share their experience with cpu governors.cpu frequencies for better performance and battey..
Green Power app
I found one suggestion from user webdroidmt on the 3.0 Kernel forum suggesting using the app Green Power to manage WiFi sleep. I think a number of users have reported issues that WiFi doesn't actually seem to shutdown during device sleep, no matter what the policy is. The Green Power app can be set to do this. However, one issue i've noticed so far is that once I come back from sleep, my WiFi icon doesn't seem to reappear. This could easily just be user error and nothing wrong with the app, but I thought I'd mention it.

Actually, it appears that if you wait a bit on the lock screen after sleep, the WiFi icon will appear. If you just unlock right away, the icon is gone.
i use the batterybar app and plug/unplug the power lead until i see the bar moving to show charge.(animation needs activating in app)
i have never had a flat battery and i am always at ease that i know it is charging.
or aokp has a batt bar built into rom.
hope this helps in some small way and stops the *****ing in the
kernel "DEV" thread.
