Battery Status Icon Misleading - Vibrant General

Has anyone else noticed that the battery status icon in the status bar is misleading? It appears to have about ~6 bars from full to empty, but these do not equate properly to percentages:
full == 76-100% charged
5/6 == 51-75%
4/6 == 31-50%
3/6 == 20-30%
2/6 == 11-20%
1/6 == 1-10%
They may have done this to make the battery seem to last longer or in order to better manage a low battery (1-30%), but I really dislike it. When the icon shows half full, I would expect to have 40-60% battery remaining, not half of that (20-30%)!
To see your real battery level go to Settings > About phone > Status > Battery Level, now compare that to the status icon.

What is your source for this info?

He's right. I have same issue. I assume most people do. Very annoying.

Install a battery widget app!

I strongly recommend "Battery Left Widget" from the Market. Much more accurate.

I watch the battery icon on the status bar and compare it to battery status from settings. Try it yourself. I may be off a few percentage points but it's pretty close.

Yeah, I agree it's very general and I wouldn't really on it for accuracy. I use BatteryIndicator myself.

Download battery indicator then. It'll stay in the notifications bar.
There is a % readout under the widget

Wouldn't a battery widget make the battery drain quicker?

It is actually
full == 80-100% charged
5/6 == 60-79%
4/6 == 40-59%
3/6 == 25-39%
2/6 == 15-24%
1/6 == 5-14%
empty 4 or less

Mine looks fully charged, but actually 70% and dropping fast. That battery icon is very unhelpful. This is one of the many reasons I want to flash a new rom.

1% Battery Stats! - Circle Battery Widget

Just updated my circle battery widget and somehow with the latest update my phone is now reporting battery stats in 1% increments. I had read that the Droid X only reports in 10% increments so I don't know if this is just an error with CBW and these stats are inaccurate, however so far they seem fairly legit to what my battery usage would be.

i just downloaded the widget and my battery went to 15 percent to show the critical message, the widget showed that as well! very cool! I've never used this widget, but is it a big battery drain?
I started to use it to after i saw this post... its hard to say if it uses alot of battery... its just different seeing the battery percentages go down by one and not ten... haha

I think all it does is refresh the battery checker, doesn't really affect the battery.
I did this and it lasted just as long if shorter than if you don't do it.
Im on my second Epic. Both have had problems reading the correct battery life.
well it works great for me... i kno the batt stats dont show right but if it thinks its gonna die it will no matter what charge is left, maby all this does is put the right charge% back on the screen...idk... but its a noticeable diff on life for me... especially after flashing something in cwm

I had that issue with my epic; I used this thread:
Calibrate Battery thread - This is how you do it!

I used the powered off method; my phone would display the blue indicator like it was full but the percentage would say 97%, that thread fixed that for me.

Ya I know bout that already, & I've did that a long time ago lol my phone was unplugged @ 9am its now 545 & I'm @ 77% & when its about to die I will do this lil trick & bam 10% turns into 30% or more...
Sent from the Trans-Epic Express
So I'm @ 4% 12hrs unplugged been listening to pandora about 5hrs constantly checking xda all day txtn my ass off & im bout to do my trick... Reporting back in a min
I'm back with 18% not the best but that's how ot works...
Sent from the Trans-Epic Express
Here's another way,
With your phone turned on plug it into a charger. Wait until the blue light turns on. It may read 97%, if so, wait another 15 minutes.
Once the charge reaches about 97%, the blue light turns on and the charge current switches to slow charge. It will charge to 100%, and then cycle between about 96% and 100%.
So, follow the OPs instructions or do nothing.
You,know.... That's one thing that hor (htc) got right. All htc phones charge at a rate of 1% per 1 minute. On our epics, its about 1% per hour. Hor.

Everyone uses their phone differently. So with my light usuage I still have not seen this battery life since eclair. I have 2 email accounts set to push and had some texts, emails, browsing the web and rss feeds. This went through 2 over nites so far that's also why lighter usuage but radio was on and was on wifi most of the time. Any other rom with the same usuage woulda gotten me 24 hours. Stock 1500mah battery. I still had 40% when I took these screen caps. This rom is clean gb mtd. I think its awesome. Thanks toad...... ;-)

"Android System" is really CIQ. Open it in "running services" if you don't believe me and read it's description. I don't have a "noCIQ" Rom yet, but whenever I change towers or go in and out of airplane mode or reboot, I go into running services and kill Android System service.

K0nane removed CIQ. Android system is reporting everything going through the OS. It was listed as Display on Froyo. It is meaningless either way unless it is still 90% after several hours of standby, then it is a wakelock issue.

No one else will have a clue as to what happened either unless you give more information than that screenshot .
ROM? Min/Max frequencies? Governor? Did the phone feel extremely hot during those 38 minutes? Did you try a reboot? What happened after you recharged it? Same or better battery life?
I didn't even know it was possible to eat through the entire battery in under an hour. Seems like it might be a messed up battery and/or battery calibration thing. If you want more information than in that screenshot, you can try installing BetterBatteryStats

I'm thinking it was just a fluke... I woke up, did some browsing, ran a timer (hence the screen-on time), got in the car to go to work and "14% remaining" popped up. I rebooted a few times to see if it was just reporting incorrectly --- but it had actually drained.
Typically I pull ~13 hours, ~3 of screen-on, and ~7 of Pandora. I'm more than satisfied with battery.... normally. It seems to have gone back to around that level after a recharge, but I'll know for sure tomorrow.
Battery was fine today. Sitting at 23 hours on ~130% battery (some slight charging halfway through), 20% remaining, 3.5 hours of screen, and 7 hours of Pandora.
I guess my phone had a case of the Mondays.... on a Tuesday.
Most likely had something go wrong with the battery stats.
I had it happen before. I knew my device was around 30 percent battery life. I hooked up to the charger and in less than 5 minutes it said 100 percent. So it would charge further.
Drained the battery fully and quickly of course like the op and fully charged. Haven't had it happen again though.
The battery reporting on the nexus is pretty bad

Battery drain with light use on S7 Edge... Is this normal?

Hi everybody. I recently purchased a S7 Edge, coming from an OPO. I wanted a top range smartphone and I choose it because of the enthusiastic reviews I had read on the Internet, especially about camera and battery. While I've been very happy about camera, it's absolutely not the same about battery.
The phone doesn't last more than 12-15 hrs of light use (no games, no 'heavy' apps, no Bluetooth, screen brightness at about 30%, most of background backup disabled). This morning, after a full-night charge, it dropped from 100% to 99% just in a minute of Twitter browsing.
I checked in the stats and apparently there is no app draining the battery; yesterday the top energy consumption came from the screen.
In addition, it gets easily warm on the screen and on the back (not hot), and I'd like to know if it is normal. I'm using it without any case, just as I did with my OPO, but the latter has always been cold, even during heavy use.
I'm posting some screenshots about the battery stats in my Settings

Need more than 10 minutes of battery stats to make any judgement. I suggest you post the stats from 100% until ca. 10%, with your normal usage.
It will give a better overview. Other monitoring apps will give much more detail, but start with this.
Are you rooted?

Do use the Samsung and Microsoft app? What country are you in someone from your area might be able to shed light on warranty situation after tripping Knox.
If tripping the Knox flag has no effect on your warranty (like here in NZ). You could look at installing a ROM.
