hey, I just got ordered an 8125 today. It is still in the mail though. I was wondering, what should I upgrade on it once I get used to it? like I have no idea what to do. I have been reading on this site, but its hard to understand what ya'll are talking about, when idk WHAT is being talked about. heres some questions I have.
What is ROM, and what does it do if I put it on my phone. How do I get it on my phone.
Can I put WM6 on my phone? How do I do it?, as in how to install it on my phone.
thanks
Apparently you haven't done NEAR enough reading. If you have to ask questions like that, you don't have any business doing ANYTHING to your phone.
But -- right now -- all your questiona are irrelevant because all the ROMs will be gone from this site within a week. . . and I dare say it's because of "noobs" like you that try to flash their devices with UNofficial ROMs, then have problems or "brick" the phone (from not READING and FOLLOWING the instructions) and then run to the Carrier to cry about the phone not working or for a warranty exchange (which doesn't cover modified ROMs). And now, the Carriers and phone manufacturer have put enough pressure on Microsoft to stop the distribution of these modified ROMs because it's only after those "bricked" phones get back to the manufacturer that it's found the owner was not running an official ROM.
GEEZ!! Learn about features of the phone FIRST by reading the User's Manual and the tutorials on the Carrier's site. THEN, come over here and do some MORE reading. At that point, a good place to start would be the WiKi.

Notice how I said ONCE I get used to it? I have been reading, but its kinda hard to understand when you dont even know what they are talking about. I dont mind paying for WM6, I just want to know where I can download it, and how I apply it on my phone.
Unless your Carrier makes it available to you as an OFFICIAL update, you won't be able to upgrade to WM6. If/when that happens, it will be on HTC's website with complete instructions.
Hey I was just wondering what website can I get animated gif's for slide to unlock for the wing.I used to know where to get it from and how to do it but I've been off this site for a couple of months now so I'm a bit rusty. If anybody knows where I can find them(preferably care bears) that would b great. Just a few....On a side note, how do you like your G1? Done anything to it yet?
Thanks for the sites, the G1 is awesome so far, I didn't do anything custom to it yet cuz I'm still trying to figure evrything out about it and I prolly won't do anything yet until I get tired of the original things it comes with but the phone is great, I would recommend it.
I just recently bought the Tilt 2. I likes, but would also likes to tweak a little. I have seen other TF2 phones that have the weather interface just under the clock itself, w/ cool animations. Anyway to get that same thing for my AT&T phone? Anyone with a program or fix I can use?

Have you read through the forums or used the "search" feature to look for what you want? This isnt just as easy as installing a fix or new clock. You need to update your manilla/touch flo 3d interface to Sense 2.1 or 2.5. This CAN be done via cab I believe however I cant speak about performance with that method as I have never done it... Most people just flash an entire new rom to their phone that has sense 2.1 or 2.5 preinstalled in it.
Sounds to me like you're running an old stock rom from your carrier. Most carriers have updated their roms as it is so you can probably just download a new one from your carriers website or something and update it and then you wont have to hardspl your phone and temporarily void the warranty. Again, do some reading you'll find what you need. If someone wants to just thrown this person the links feel free to chime in. It's not hard to search though. If you cant figure out how to use that search feature box in the top right of practically every page on this forum your best bet is just to go into google and type what you want followed by XDA after it and you'll find the threads that way.
Good luck!
tilt 2 fix FLASH TO A CUSTOM ROM!
lol man i had the same, i bought the tilt 2, i thought id be an iphone killer, is ok, but i hated that i couldnt customize to my own way of liking. anyways
the best and only fix i could tell you is FLASH TO A CUSTOM ROM, i love my phone so much more, its pretty safe if you follow the tutorials step by step.
it makes your phone so much better, then youll get the features YOU want.
i tried the e2 rom fisrt and its pretty much stock TP2, but no brands nowhere, i loved it, but i wanted more, so i tried the white GTX themed rom ENERGY, but it was too bright when driving at night, maybe for the movies too, its cool thou, but i didnt like how the cloudy weather would blend in with the rest, anyways
now im trying the MAXSENSE 2.5 i like it, but its different to the first one i tried and fell in love with, imma try it for a lil longer maybe i fall in love and forget the e2 rom, but so far e2 and energy are my favorite.
read read read, because i got so confused at first when i see roms for 6.5 and then 6.5.x or 6.5.1, all it is a different design, i didnt like the new sms because its kinda complicated to understand and has the send button to the right kinda like the touchflo send button on the stock tilt and the back button (6.5.1 or x) where the send button is on the 6.5 sms app.
i liked the GTX 6.5 sms skin because its like bubbles like the iphone not as pretty but deff not regular and plain.
but now that im using the ENERGY MAXSENSE ROM im kinda missing the e2 rom, but i hear energy rom is the best one. so imma keep playing with it.
let me know if you need more simple explanations than found here. because i had to go through the same when i first got on here lol
since we have CWM recovery, i wonder if we can just flash the official update from 3.0.1 to 3.1?
i am afraid to test as we do not have any original sbf to restore to if something goes wrong.
i open up the update and don't see any radio related files, i guess it might be safe.
any ideas you guys?
i have rooted my xoom, is there anyway i can dump the whole thing as a backup, try the update, and if something goes wrong, restore it?
the-update-is-for-US-xoom-it-will-not-work-here-we-are-not-cdma.
I get fed up of repeating this sentence like a drone, I think I'm going to make a quick text.
bloody motorola... what so different in that?
can't they just do something similar to what the Nexus S is, where they are all compatible?
i don't see any hardware difference apart from the radio.
( i am referring to wifi xoom).

Motorola is American, America comes first, so we have to wait. Unfortunately they seem to be one of those c ompany that doesn't deal with their international customers very well and so we have no information.
I think the real difference is that the American XOOM is a G.E.D (Google Experience Device) so they get direct google updates, where ours is not, so we have to wait on Motorola.

I understand that the hardware on the UK/EU wifi version is the same as the US version, while the software is different. Is it possible to load the US software onto the UK hardware and make my device a G.E.D.? If we're going to get dicked around like we did with the Droid/Milestone, then I might just return it and buy an iPad 2 (for all their problems they do seem to get that they are selling a product to a global audience).

Hardware is the same, I'd do exactly that with the Wifi Only and just install the US images, then you get the updates like they do. We can't do that with the 3G one though because their 3G is CDMA and ours isn't so there are some differences that make it impossible for us to just use their images.

And to do this do I need to unlock the boot loader?
As far as I understand all I have to do is firstly factory wipe from the settings menu, then enable the debug USB option, plug it in to my PC and follow the commands listed here? Or is there more to it than that? I've been a happy Nexus One stock user so I've never really bothered to learn any of this stuff prior to this.
My sister has informed me I will be getting an a500 for Christmas. This will affect Since then I've been rescearching and learning everything I can about it. I know I will want it rooted, and stripped of all bloatware, but there's something I've heard mention of I can't seem to get a real answer to.
What's the difference between AOSP honeycomb and whatever acer's done to it? I know there are modifications, I just don't know what. This will affect what ROM I use, or if I use one (though that'll also be influenced by stability of ROMs - unless there's a super stable 3.2 I'll probably just stay rooted stock, unless there's something better than stock out there. I'd appriciate ROM suggestions.
Also, how do I go back to stock once I ROM? Haven't seen a clear answer to that either. Probably easy, but there are no ROMs available for my phone so that's not something I have much (if any) experience with.
In laymans terms, AOSP is just the basic android code before the manufactures get hold of it. By agreement, they have to release the code to the community.
Sometimes it's good, sometimes not so good. Depends. The good thing, is that it's pretty much free of anything the manufacturers may add to it.
The bad thing, is that sometimes the device drivers might not be so refined. It just depends on how "smart" the devs are that put together a rom.
But, the good thing, is that we have a choice to run whatever we want.
Acer hasn't done much to Honeycomb it is pretty vanilla so you already are running an AOSP version of Honeycomb. There is none of the heavy overlays like HTC Sense, Motorola's, or Samsungs overlays. Its easy to remove the bloatware after its rooted. Enjoy it, its a fun tablet.
Yea the only "Bloat" that acer really puts on it are some applications. Thinks like Acer Sync and stuff like that. Its not a huge deal, but I find that a lot of the custom ROMs are quicker and smoother, likely because of the overclocking.
Thanks for clearing that up guys. I'll probably just stick w/ rooted stock 3.2 for a while. I'm looking for the most stable and most functional experience I can get out of this thing.
Another question - is there any way to change the software buttons on the a500m I know there's a way the transformer can do it, but I can't find it for the a500. (Haven't scoured the web tho- on my god awful phone till the weekend)
the only actual downside to rooting at this point is that when i bought mine (last week) it came with 3.2.1 currently there are only 3.2 roms not sure what fixes to the os 3.2.1 introduced, but do to the rooting process currently available to the Iconia you will have to Flash a custom rom in order to get root (you have to flash back to 3.0.1 then go through the steps at which point your stock rom is gone)

You can change these by a couple of methods.
1. By applying a theme package. You can get info in the themes forum.
2. By changing the icons in the rom.zip before flashing.
All of this is covered in the themes forum. I believe the guy who does the honeylicous rom has a thread there covering this.
Note though, you have to be careful about doing this, as if you don't follow instructions, you can semi-brick your device. It's happened to a few n00bs.
Hint. If you install a launcher app, you'll get rid of that Google search and apps button at the top of the display. Also, there are a couple of apps, that will hide the launcher at the bottom, and you can make it reappear when needed. Nice for watching a full screen film. (but it uses resources)

If you're going to be running a 3.2 rooted stock ROM, any of the mods on this page should work for you, all flashable in CWM.
