Anyone using their Titan as an MP3 player in the car?

I found out I can put rhapsody tracks on the SD card on my Titan (XV6800) so I've been using it as my car MP3 player. Problem is when it's plugged into the charger I get some noise (the phone is connected to my car using an aux port.) My question is does anyone use a similar setup, and if so what do you use as your charger? Right now I'm using a cig port to USB thing. I could probably reroute the ground, but I'd rather not deal with the mess of wires.

?? Are you asking how I have my phone as my MP3 player?
You need something like this. I have that connected to the 2.5mm/USB splitter that comes with the phone, then there's a 3.5mm lead that goes from that connector to my car stereo's aux input.
Considering there's a mic on the adapter, it doubles as a handsfree kit so when a call comes in, the music pauses and I can hear the caller through my stereo.

I have the Pioneer Avic D3x in my car with the bluetooth module. I just installed it. I had to install a plugin on the mogul called a Jet something and it connected fine with my audio in the car. I can listen to my radio station SuperRadioMix.com and it mutes out when someone calls. The station streams perfectly to my mogul phone. This may sound like a advertising for my radio station....and it is. . Just to let you know you can do it.

Oh yea, blutooth would solve the problem because it's most likely related to the common ground, however I already have a rather nice Eclipse head, so I'm not looking to replace it. I am looking around for blutooth adapters though.

That noise you're hearing is a ground loop. The only way to get rid of it is to use some kind of ground loop noise isolator, like this one:

I use Mortplayer on my Titan for MP3's as well as streaming radio. It works really good!

This is exactly what I'm using. You can find it on Verizon's site, you might also be able to find it in the store.
Thanks coodaddy1, I figured that was the next step. I thought about running a ground from the cig lighter to the chassis to see if it eliminated the hum.

I am using the usb/2.5 splitter that came with the phone with a 2.5-3.5 splitter i got a radio shack, all that connected to my stereo line in. Works like a charm.

I found that the 2.5-3.5 doesn't have the correct amount of posts and you will need to eventually pull out the tip to get full stereo (are you sure you are getting stereo sound rather than mono out of both speakers- all left or all right)?
If that works, cool!

I use mine for that all the time. I have one of those bracketron mounting clips that clip to your vent and I use the included headphone adapter and the usb splitter (becuase it wont charge unless you connect the power to the usb splitter). I connect a mini usb cable to a usb adapter in the charger socket. To connect to the radio on my ford focus I have a digital adapter that lets me use standard rca jack input to the digital port on the back of the factory radio (works with any any audio source)
To connect to the 2.5mm headset adapter,I have a cable I made by chopping the end of a old 2.5mm handsfree headset and soldering a standard 3.5mm headset socket to it. You should be able to buy a similar adapter from any vendor on the web. The headset that the moguls included adapter wants is the standard four conductor one that most multimedia cell phones like the samsung a920 use. (I originally used the cable I made with a samsung) The only problems I have had is that vibration from driving sometimes jiggles the mini usb loose from the phone and you have to plug it in again. I guess I could route the cable over the top of the bracket to hold it in place to solve the problem,in fact,Ill try that tomorrow.
One other problem I have had is tomtom as it has no internal media player. I was using it for gps functionality,but other than the fact that it is missing all sorts of key information on my area,like points of interest that it really should have,its very difficult to switch out of it and control media player. That means that while you can start your music and then launch the gps program you are then stuck with whatever your play list is and cant control media player. Other than that it does work well and the voice comes through fine. I switched to Garmins gps software and it works great. It does not even need to have some other app initialize the gps like tomtom does. It does not have an internal media player either,but at least its a little easier to switch out of.

I have a feeling that this can't be done (because I looked into it with my XDA Exec a few years ago), but....
Is there any way that I can play mp3s via the extUSB into a car stereo (via an AUX in) and yet answer calls via the same stereo's integrated bluetooth via the headset profile?
The stereo would normally drop the AUX in sound for a bluetooth call, but clearly the extUSB would normally handle calls if a audio output device is plugged into it. With my Exec, I seem to remember that the hardwired audio output would be the default, and so the bluetooth would never engage.
If there is a hardware solution, I would be very keen to know! Even better if the extUSB also charged my Vario IV in a passive holder.

What about playing music through the blue tooth of your car stereo? Tricking the car into thinking its actually engaged in a call so it plays music. Might have to be something done on the phone side to transmit the music as a call and then when you receive a call the music stops and you can answer the call and when the call ends music resumes? Just a thought i dont know if it is possible at all. But you bring up a really good idea.

Thanks for the thought, but the stereo doesn't accept bluetooth streams - it simply just has the ability to act as a hands free device.
Any more thoughts anyone? (Although someone has just posted about a device that looks intriguing with AUX and power in)

Thank you too for the feedback, but I can't see a bluetooth device in your chain. Perhaps I wasn't clear in the original post, but in the end I suppose the question is can calls be handled over bluetooth when there is any audio outpu device plugged into the extUSB?

the answer is yes. that is what i do daily.
i listen to music through quality wired headphones, and when a call comes in i use my bt headset WITHOUT unplugging the headphones from extUSB.
all you need to do is answer the call using the answer button on your bt headset and not your phone.
in some phones, if you will press the send key on the phone and not the bt headset, the call will transfer to the phone instead of the bt headset.

Do you think it matters that you're using headphones rather than a headset? I'm just wondering, since you refer to headphones, if the lack of speaker in your wired device means the call will hand over to the BT device - this will allow me to work out what I need to buy.

hmm i think since your aux input wont really have a mic attached it should hand over the call to the bluetooth headset from what the other person is saying.

Hi, I don't know if this will apply to your stereo setup but I thought I would let you know my setup anyway.
I use the HTC multifunction audio cable http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=171925 which lets me charge my phone via a car charger and use the 3.5mm audio output to the stereos aux input at the same time - all of which are in center armrest compartment.
I use bluetooth connection to the factory installed bluetooth prep (BMW 3-Series). When a call comes in the TP pauses the audio and the BT phone then takes over. When the call ends the TP un-pauses the audio

I just installed a Blaupunkt MP57 on Sunday and did exactly what you're describing. Phone connected via aux playing music, answer or make calls via bluetooth on the stereo and the music pauses then restarts when the call is ended.

Both can send all outgoing audio from your WM device via BT headset channel instead of A2DP. It's not advanced audio but it will let you play audio over the headset BT channel. Sound can be tweaked using SRS WOW HD.
ExtUSB is just a port which will enable playing MP3 tracks on for example USB drive? Why not put your connection in USB mode then?

I'm not sure if this will help you, but I bought a Motorola Bluetooth Car Kit. I don't have the "phone" feature built into my car Stereo, so I used the external amplified speaker and mic for "phone" functions. The Car Kit has an Aux Out, with I feed into my car stereo. When I get into the car, the Bluetooth initiates two separate "connections". One for the "phone" and one for the "MP3 Player". You can have either one or both. The music plays through the car stereo (via the Aux Input) and phone calls play the the external Car Kit Speaker. It is like having two independent bluetooth "channels". When I have Voice Commander enabled, it communicates through the "phone" channel, i.e., the Car Kit mic and external speaker. That is also where my incoming email is announced through. My Garmin GPS "speaks" through the Aux out and the Car Stereo though. I'm not sure how these routes are selected. Personally, I would prefer that the GPS also communicated through the "phone" channel, that way if I am listening to the Radio, or Sirius, or a CD (not on AUX-IN), I would still here the GPS voice guidance. I'm not sure if that can be changed or not.

Tested it and Copilot and Music run from the Aux out. Bluetooth hand over perfectly. As an aside, I find WMP is a better MP3 player, simply because I can reduce the volume in the software, but leave Copilot to use the system volume at a slightly higher level so the voice doesn't get lost (the HTC player doesn't seem to have the same capability).
Could have bought the HTC branded device from the same place, but the main lead from the Ext USB is slightly longer and more inflexible so wouldn't easily fit under my car holder.
BTW, since I live close to the shop (plus I love instant gratification as opposed to mail order), I visited the Inkino shop in London. I must say that the staff were very knowledgeable and helpful and the shop has a huge range of HTC accessories (including a branded battery and extended battery for my Universal, which I am planning to resurrect). Not sure about the prices vs ebay, but for the bricks and mortar approach in the UK, where it is difficult to find anything HTC - 1st class!

Connecting HTC Magic to car stereo

I am wondering if someone knows if it is possible to connect the HTC Magic to the car stereo (via USB).

I have mine connected via the CD changer port on my Clio.
The Magic is connected via one of these: Jays HTC Y Splitter
The EXT USB goes into the Magic, the USB connector goes into the USB charger and the female EXT USB goes into usb to 3.5mm jack which connects to the "Connects2" audio adaptor for the CD Changer which fools the head unit into thinking there is a changer connected and gives you a line in.
All this is behind the dash and only a couple of cm is showing to plug the Magic into when audio and charging is needed.
It sounds great when listening to music or podcasts and GPS instructions are clear as well. When connected and you get a call then it shuts off the music and routes the call to my BT headset seamlessly.
One thing I would point out is when I first put it in, I got a high pitched whine rising with the engine revs. I found this was due to the earthing of the charger and the alternator. It is called alternator whine and I fitted a ground loop isolator to the line in which cured the problem. All in all it took about an hour and £30 or so and works brilliantly.

I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't be able to connect using an actual USB cable (like you connect to the computer to charge or copy files with). Your head unit would likely be expecting an iPod to interface with.
What you CAN do, if your stereo head unit has an "Aux" input is connect an audio patch cable from the Aux input to the headphone adaptor that your phone came with. If you don't have one, try this link.
You will, of course, have to control the audio from your phone and not the radio head unit.

More expensive, BUT have a look at the Parrot Mki9100 Bluetooth hands free kit. Supports bluetooth stereo streaming, plays from a usb stick (and controls an ipod)

Headphone Jack Issue

I am interested in purchasing this phone, but I read there is an issue with not being able to use the microphone while headphones are plugged in. I hook my current Android into my car stereo through my headphone jack and when people call, it uses the speaker phone to talk while I hear people on the car stereo. Would I still be able to do this on the Fascinate, or does that also disable the speaker phone mic, or are they the same mic?

im not sure what you are asking but i ahve no problems with it, i plug in my headphones with the mic in them and they work great, use them for listening to music and talking and love it

He means he has his phone plugged into the speakers in his car through the aux jack, and then when he gets a call he uses the speakerphone option to talk, and incoming voice audio plays on his car stereo. I do not think this will currently work on the fascinate...

You've heard right. It blocks speakerphone when headphones/aux are plugged in. It's quite a pain considering I use it as my music player in the car. It also ignores bluetooth while plugged in as well.

This is correct, and was almost a deal breaker for me. However, the car dock has a function where you don't need to plug in the AUX, only the micro-USB, and you can charge it as well as have audio output (the audio goes through the charging port, then is output by a 3.5mm output on the dock, and finally to your car's AUX in). This feature isn't enabled yet, but once Froyo is released it will be - and then we should be able to take calls over our car speakers without the mic being muted.

So Indy, we can't use the car dock the way it was intended until froyo drops? That means I can't hear my nav thru the speakers while docked or any music?

As I understand it, yes. There is a sticker on the port letting you know that it won't function properly until the release of 2.2. I'm still waiting on my dock to get here in the mail, but I've seen several threads elsewhere where this is discussed.
I don't think the dock has room, but if it does, you could still run an AUX cable from the headphone jack to your car's input, and have nav and music through the speakers - you just wouldn't be able to take calls with it connected because of the mic being muted with an AUX cable connected. Once 2.2 is released, as I understand, you'll be able to do it all.

Thanks for the help. It looks like ill be waiting before I make a purchase. I use slacker radio too much in my car and my deck doesn't have an auxiliary in, its old school tape deck so I have a device that plugs in the tape deck.

Connect WP7 to Car Stereo via USB

I would like to purchase a new cd head unit for my car and use my Zune Pass on my WP7 to play all my music via USB.
Why USB and not 3.5mm aux cable?
I would like to be able to charge my WP7 device and control volume/play/pause/etc from the car CD head unit rather than my WP7 device
Right now, the only CD head units I know of that are capable of this with Zune devices is 2 head units from Kenwood:

I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish is doable, and it's unlikely that it will be. The Win7 phones, at this time, don't have a standard Zune connector, which has specific pinouts for different functions, such as, passing audio, charging, basically controlling functions, etc. (much like the pinout on the iPods/iPhone)
Since all of the phones, at this time, have just USB mini/micro connectors, there has to be a driver associated on the receiver/computer/other device that knows how to communicate with the phone, process what you're trying to accomplish, and basically have digital two-way communication.
The more likely way, is to have a bluetooth enabled head deck, that allows two-way control (I'm pretty sure these are out, not sure about the two way), and a separate car charger...
Anyone else have any input that might help?

I have a kenwood BT-900 car stero that suports the zune hd through the USB port
it works awsome
I now have the WP7 and my kenwood does not see the phone at all only thorugh bluetooth but still does not do music streaming like to should
I beleave the will be testing the new phone out but as you know they don't tell me very much, all I know is the 2 of the support reps ordered WP7s and thought it would work fine but in fact it does not
I'm sure they will have some fix soon I'm hoping

thank you for posting this, I was researching to buy that particular kenwood strictly for this reason. you just saved me a couple hundred dollars.

My car is a Peugeot, about 2 years ago i installed an Extension Box so I can use an USB-Stick to listen to my music. (It uses the external CD-Case Port on the Radio.)
The small box also enabled to connect I-Pod and I-Phone and was able to browse & play from them.
When I connect my WP7 it beeps all the time and can't even load the battery.
As I know, the box writes a playlist on any USB drive which is connected so I suppose WP7 simply doesn't allow this =(.
Hopefully this will be changed by some kind of driver.

I have a KDC-BT8041U in my truck. I connect to it via Bluetooth and use a usb charger when needed. I usually just hit the random play button (the two music notes in a circle on main screen) in Zune Music and then I can use the remote or on dash controls of my Kenwood to skip forward and backward through the songs. I can also pause and mute. The only down side is it does not show song title, artist, etc. on the screen of the stereo and I can't search for specific songs using the stereo. But it is still much better sound quality then AUX jack and you wont have to get caught with your phone in your hands while driving. (illegal where I live)
Another cool feature about this is the music fades out when you get an incoming text or call then resumes after your done. Be sure to go to settings, speech and enable speech recognition over the network, then at the bottom turn Read aloud incoming text messages to bluetooth so you can respond to your text messages using your voice. Work really good.

Guys, you are searching unreal things. It's not a Zune player, it a diffirent device at hardware and connectivity too.
Only one way to use our phone in car is a Bluetooth. It work good, as headset and throught A2DP for hearing music and control playback from car hi-fi.
