Occasionally, when opening an app, the app only displays on the screen for a fraction of a second, then disappears. It just kinda blinks on then off...
I can't figure out what is causing it to do this. It has happened to me with K-9, Facebook, Twitter, Maps...pretty much any app. Sometimes I try to open facebook, and it won't open, but twitter will....Some of the time you can get the program to open if you go home, then open and close the app drawer.....
Anyone else with a similar problem? I have reset the phone twice and it is still doing this...Other than this occasional problem, I love the Vibrant!
Do you have an app killer or startup controller? Mine did the same thing, and I quickly realized I was killing a service that the apps I was launching depended on.
Sent from my SGH-T959
^ pretty much exactly what I was going to post. What have you installed on your phone like this?
Mine has done this a few times, usually after an app force closes. For 30 seconds or so after if I try to reopen that app it will just shut off again, then after a bit, it's fine.
It's happened with the web browser more than once, and a couple other apps.
I get the same exact problem with no real reason. Whenever it happens I just go into the settings from the menu button. Settings opens fine and once I close it ever other app opens correctly again.

Did you erase unneeded apps? There is a list around here somewhere of apps that can be safely deleted, without violating dependencies. I have a stock unit with the lag, the blue tint, etc. . . But I never had this problem without the startup manager.

yes.. I took most of the bloatware off using root manager.
Startup auditor has a list of dependencies for each app that you have installed. Not much good for things that you have already deleted, but maybe the dev site can help? I know I saw a list somewhere of bloat that could be "safely deleted".

The only bloat I deleted was Telenav, so I doubt that's the cause of it.

I've noticed this as well. However, If you hold down your home key, after it does the weird flash, and select the app from the pop up menu, it will open. Weird.

I seriously doubt that this has anything to do with deleting the bloatware apk's...
I haven't removed anything and mine does this as well. Usually after an app freezes or force closes.

Launcher Pro is by far my favorite launcher application but I have noticed a few bugs with it on my Vibrant lately. I know it's Launcher Pro causing them because my device doesn't duplicate them when running stock TouchWiz or ADW Launcher.
Bug #1 - When activating GPS it causes the entire phone to freeze and sometimes restart.
Bug #2 - Sometimes apps will not launch at all until I reset my device. If I click on a app it closes will open and close within 1 second.
Has anyone else experienced these bugs?
Been using LP for a few weeks now and haven't noticed either of those bus. In fact, LP has given me no problems at all.
I've had LauncherPro installed since the day I purchased my phone in mid-July. Experienced none of these bugs. I don't think it's LP-related on your end.
The dialer also does not connect to an in call dialer. If you get a phone call and exit out of the dialer, you cannot get back to that dialer. When you click your dialer application, it gives you a fresh dialer acting like no one is connected.

If you pull down on the notification bar, and then press on the green phone icon, it will take you back to your call that is already in progress.
I'm using launcher pro and I've also experienced both of the issues mentioned in the OP. I've been using LP almost since day one, so I can't say whether or not they're LP bugs specifically. The app launching issue I've noticed more with Handcent than any other. On the GPS issue, I don't have any of the "fixes" applied, so it's not that. I'm thinking about reloading a completely stock ROM to see if that might fix it.

I don't notice any bugs with LP but I mostly use the stock launcher. Just not a fan of the stock android look...
I do notice one bug in ADW launcher though which I use from time to time and that's the scrolling of the home screens. Sometimes I'll try to flick to the next screen and all it'll do is bounce and stay on the same screen. I had this some problem on the mytouch slide so I know it's not a vibrant issue.
YES! I AM EXPERIENCE CONTINUOUS REBOOTS!
My Epic 2.1.1 rooted with 'one-click' method seemed fine for a day. But once I installed LauncherPro, the device stared to reboot continously every 30sec.
I had to go into recovery mode and wipe/factory reset!
Any ideas?
^ did you try and install a system app? Only way I can see that possible... would have absolutely nothing to do with LP.
My launcher pro is working great. I bought the pro version though, thought I might add that launcher was updated today the 3rd.

Yeah, I am LOVING the new twitter widget.. only going to get better.
I've had no problems with LP, but I have with ADW. When opening the tray it keeps, for the lack of better words rebooting the tray. It will show the zoom in effect like 3-5 times before it loads the tray.
My phone is rebooting every 30sec once again! DAMN!
After the first bout, I re-rooted using one-click method, installed supseruser and titaniumbackup, then proceeded to restore all new app+data...
I stayed away from LP, but I went with ADW.Launcher. As far as system apps, I dont believe I installed anything like this; what would be an example of a system app?
I was good for one day, and then this morning, it seemed fine but the batt was very low. After plugging in the charger.... a few min later, this reboot cycle began!
I am on my 3rd recovery wipe/factory reset now.
Anyone else experience this or have recommendations?
I have a bug where it doesn't size live wallpapers properly when changing to landscape mode and the keeps the off size when rotating back to portrait. A dealbreaker for me since I love my lw's

I bought an app called Autostarts from the market and that helped a TON. Since every app seems to "need" to start when the phone boots. You need to be rooted to use it.
Autostarts is great because a lot of apps have several instances that will trigger it to run. Like receiving a text runs sprint nav, things like that. This app will allow you to stop it.
The built in task manager app is good too. If you do a level two kill on the RAM tab it'll free up a bunch. You need to re open your call blocker, and other third party stuff you do want running afterward though.
When you exit a program are you doing it using the home button or the back button because usin the home button doesn't close the app it just "minimizes" it....the back button will close it while leaving essential data in memory for a quick startup next time you open it....if you are exiting using the back button then I would ask how many apps you have installed and how many widgets you have running on your homescreen
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I have the same problem, and most of the app that run are the crapware from sprint. But things like email, Gmail, settings, etc are always running. If I close all running apps, they just open 30 seconds later.

I always press the back button when exiting an app but whenever i leave an app by pressing the home button and go back to it i usually have to reload whatever i was doing.
I have a problem with this too. I can use ATK to kill things running in the background and that will bring me up above 100 usually. Then within a matter of a minute it goes down to the mid 50s again. I do use a few widgets though.

What widgets and if they do background updates (facebook, twitter, etc.) how often do they update?
you shouldn't really need an autokiller with froyo.. (which I've heard a thousand times), but in all honesty, I kill certain apps that I know to be potential memory hogs. But as far as just normal stuff running in the background, you're not really going to free up memory by killing those, because they're just going to load back up.. using more battery.
Here's the general idea: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garbage_collection_(computer_science)
But if you wanna check if, for example, if Youtube, a music player, launcher and angrybirds are all somehow really running in the background, (with froyo), I just hold the Home button, click Task Manager, and you see and can kill them there.
There's also a RAM Manager in there you can check out in there as well.

That's because android killed the app to free up memory. In most cases android does a pretty good job in freeing up memory. For instance i know if i leave the xda app and do nothing it will stay open the next time i come back. But lets say i leave the xda app turn turn pandora on and brows the web, the phone will close xda to free up memory

I typically keep about 140 mb of ram free. I use Startup Manager to keep progs from ever starting and Memory Booster to keep the bs from ever taking over my phone.

I have a luncher pro installed. I selected as my default home screen app, it was working fine. Recently every time i press home button i get a window asking me to select default home screen application. It does that at random, even though i checked the box before selecting launcher pro.
You could try clearing the defaults, then set it again. Under Settings - Applications - Manage Applications, find all the launchers and use the Clear data option for each.

ATK's are BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD DO NOT USE THEM. 2.2 has them built them into the OS. this has been discussed numerous times.
That is most likely your problem, and you'll notice your battery life will go up as well.
cleaning the cache as nothing to do with. for it to ask you to use the phone is sutting down lancher pro, and removing the default settings, then it's starting back up on your own and since the phone doesn't know what launcher you want to use by default it's going to ask you.

android phones are built off the linux shell.
Linux in nature are multitasking MONSTERS. when you are not using them they are setting dormant not using the processor and not using any resources. Applications in Linux will not run unless you tell them to. From reading the android market it looks like that app isn't running 24/7. But the ATK are constantly running looking for applications to kill, thus killing your battery in the process... On older 1.5 and 1.6 android and lower end units rocking 2.1 ATKs were acceptable, but not recommended, but on newer 2.2 and 2.3 units ATKs are not good.
Well I got rid of ATK, now left with Process Manager and SetCpu. Are you saying that I should get rid of those two as well?

no, i'm not saying that in the least a-lot of people use set CPU, that just manages your CPU.
And Processor manager looks like it doesn't run 24/7. You can keep it, i just wouldn't use it unless you have to.
Thanks. We'll see how it goes with just those two running.

i figured ATK was the problem. the last time i ran an ATK i had CM4 on my Magic. When i went to CM5 i used Swapper2 to help with memory management, and from cm6 to cm7 i haven't needed anything at all to make this phone rock.

For some reason, you have an app that is running that is taking enough cache memory that it is causing TW to close, anytime you are leaving it, instead of staying in memory. This is causing a 'respawn' (everything has to reload.). You have 2 choices here.
1. Figure out what app, or apps are running that you don't need, and shut them down.
2. switch to a lighter launcher. On the surface, zeam and adw are two of the lightest out there, but I've had the best luck in low memory situations with go launcher, myself.
In order to find which apps are doing this, my recommendation is to get rom toolbox (free is fine), and look in the 'auto start manager'. I'm sure there are several apps that do the same thing, but RTb is my preference. Once you get into that section, look at the list of what is starting on boot, and disable the ones you don't need. This won't make the app useless, but it will keep it from running in the background until you open it yourself.

A little off the main topic but speaking of rom toolbox or Tibu for that matter, anytime I use them to either, say, freeze or uninstall anything , both apps just sit there with box showing me there uninstalling or freezing. Only way to stop is to go into manage apps and stop them but they end up doing what wanted to do. Anyone else have this happen, any fix, annoying if anything.

I know exactly what you mean. I've been occasionally having the same problem with Titanium Backup. It doesn't happen every time, but enough lately that I've noticed it. Not sure of any fix, but I'll post if I find one. I guess it's not that big of a problem considering it ultimately uninstalls/freezes whatever it's supposed to, but it sure is annoying.
