Hello HTC Desire users,
I am seriously considering this phone. Can someone describe its dialer to me, please?...Specifically answer these questions for me if you will, please...
1. Is it very easy to send SMS to any number appearing in the Calls History, whether the number is mobile-phone, Home-phone or work-phone?
2. Does the Dialer have the 'copy number' feature, offering an easy way to copy any phone number from the 'Calls History' and paste it elsewhere in the phone?
3. Does the Dialer have an XT9 keyboard, offering users a search in all fields in the Contacts?
4. Does the Dialer come with an attractive combination of colours?
5. Can someone compare the Dialer with Iconsoft PhonEx v2.2 for me, please?
6. Does the phone have lots of animated screen transitions like the iPhone?
I would be glad if you could elaborate a little in your answers rather than just saying 'yes' or 'no' if you will, please.
I didn't check these things before buying Sony Ericsson Xperia X2, and i don't want to make the same mistake again. So help me someone, please.
Thank you in advance.
Hello HTC Desire users,
Since i'm not getting any response after all these hours, i'll make do with short answers...it's better than no answers at all. So please if any of you can answer some of the questions i'll be very grateful...you need not answer all.
Thanks.

I will try and answer your questions below:
1. Is it very easy to send SMS to any number appearing in the Calls History, whether the number is mobile-phone, Home-phone or work-phone?
This is very easy, from call history, long press on call and select "send text message"
2. Does the Dialer have the 'copy number' feature, offering an easy way to copy any phone number from the 'Calls History' and paste it elsewhere in the phone?
This is not as easy but still not hard, select send text message and long press on "to" field, then select "copy all"
3. Does the Dialer have an XT9 keyboard, offering users a search in all fields in the Contacts?
Only contact first/last names and numbers are searcheable via smart dialling
4. Does the Dialer come with an attractive combination of colours?

I'd say yes, grey background with green android, green call red hangup buttons.
5. Can someone compare the Dialer with Iconsoft PhonEx v2.2 for me, please?
I prefer desire dialer screens although desire has smaller contact pictures.
6. Does the phone have lots of animated screen transitions like the iPhone?
Not many, mainly instant but there are a few fades.
Edit: Aditionally - look at this video which shows most of the screens:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHVop9Aeqco
The answers have been asked well above.
So my input:
I seriously prefer the Sense Dialer (which the Desire has) over the stock one. It looks a lot neater, easier to use and has better features. Contact are searchers with the number pad by number and by name.
The Desire in general is phenomenal. The best phone I've had and tried ever.

I only saw this thread now, and it looks like you've got your answers already, but I'll add this: if you get a Desire, and don't find the dialer to your liking, you could always install Dialer One app from the market. Does everything the HTC stock one does, and more
Only a couple of examples: comes with three colour themes (stock Dialer has only one), and it has a 'copy number to clipboard' option...

Yes, this is what i love about android phones in general over iphone and other smart phone.
If you don't like the look and feel of something (ANYTHING at all), there is probably an app out there to replace that to your liking. Dialer One is an example to replace the stock/htc dialer. LauncherPro/ADW.Launcher etc is an example if you dont like Sense/stock launcher etc

Thank you too, sir! You guys seem to be hungry to give!!! and I tell you, there is more blessing in doing so than in receiving! That's how God has ordained it to be. Since Life in general can be burdensome, God has designed it to be that anyone who gives, derives joy out it...When you do something to lighten life's burden to someone, you would definitely gain the reward of joyfulness, fulfilment.

Big speed improvment on animation (looks nice on VGA now)
Speed optimization for all text rendering (smoother than ever)
Various fix and improvements
Faster SMS loading

Hi
Just loaded it up, changed it to the black skin, which i like best. Seems to run great, haven't run into any problems yet. Very nice work, mate.
One think i did notise is, that when I go into a contact, the "Back" is missing the right side of the "B". Just the vertical part. No biggie, but still guess it's not suppose to be like that.
Keep up the great work.
Flemming
this is truly the best tool ever for pdas. thanks a million times for your hard work.
Great update you're doing a great job.
Loading times is better than 0.15, which is a great improvement.
IMHO - the only thing missing is a keyboard easy to find a contact, and the best one I could find is the one found in FingerFriendlyFriends program. I truly love that keyboard. Implementing it in PocketCM would make it simply perfect.
Keep up the awesome work!!
CABless Installation
Guys, how do I do this ?

Why do you need a keyboard when all you have to do is slide your finger down the side of the screen to get the alphabet bar, it doesn't get much easier than that!
Install from a zip: copy the files
Filtering with keyboard: click on phone (bottom right) and you can filter easily
great job.
Few messages are missing, for instance when you want to delete a contact.
Tene, I love the start-up time now, it has dramatically decreased. My only quirks: It seems like the scrolling feature has a delay, I will flick and it will stall a second and then it will scroll very fast. It doesnt seem as smooth as iContact. Also, when pushing the favorites tab I think the word favorites should change to All after it is pressed because pressing it again leads back to all the contacts. When you used to have buttons the filter used to change to the all contacts button after you press it, why does it not when its just words? overall great though, good work Tene

Did u try it?? it 1000 times easier to use that keyboard than scrolling with your finger, at least that's my opinion.
And since there's already a keyboard why not use a better one

Yes I have tried it and I do like it as well. However it does take up a good amount of screen real estate and for this reason I would rather not see it implemented.
Thanks .... Very Good Job But Still have the bug when I press and hold phone .... its minimize by it self and i can not press close button... why !!! idon not know
do i need to uninstall 0.15 first?
much better than previous version on the athena. runs fast now and very good. only quirk is it seems the animation for the filter is slow though on vga and lags. seems like sms animation lags a bit too. but much better than previous versions
Ive only noticed one bug, when using the the side scroll to go to contacts by letter, if i try to scroll all the way down to the end of my contacts, it does the bounce animation and half the screen (left) shows the end of my contact list and the other half (right) shows the beginning of my contact list starting at "A"
I dont have any "X", "Y", or "Z" contacts in my phone either so i dont know if that helps
thanks for making such an amazing piece of software.
Can we use the themes we made for the previous version, or do we have to start from scratch?
Love the app by the way!!
Wow.. loading time is nice now. I like it a lot (black theme). Looks much cleaner and more crisp.
Nice improvement!
Same buggies as already said in the topic, when using side scroll (a/z) and I select the z the screen seems to break up a bit. Also don't have Z in my phonebook.
And yeah, the B of 'Back' is a bit too far to the left, but that seems more like a skinning thingy.
Other than that it's working great so far!

If I understand correctly you have to start from scratch because a lot has changed for the skinning.
New skinning has much more options and can be much more customized as far as I know. Also has gradients done with color codes rather than images.
Haven't tried it out yet (the skinning) but this is what I've read here and there.
I thought I had seen that somewhere as well...that sucks, I just got to the point I made a couple skins I like (for me, that is quite the accomplishment LOL)!!!!
I have a suggestion to make it even faster for some cases.
It seems you do a lot more processing than necessary to activate the PocketCM window on launch if it's already open.
If PocketCM is already running, switching to PocketCM from a task manager is much quicker than launching the .exe again. So maybe you can optimize your launch code to look for an existing instance earlier in your code and active it if it's already running.

It's already working like that.
I say neonstorm's post the other day where he replaced the HTC images in the /windows directory to make new skins. His skins are nice and worth checking out. The weren't exactly what I wanted though.
So... I figured I could do the same thing. Below are a few as examples. I have the WM themes that goes with each one except for the grass if anyone is interested. I thought I would offer to make a few custom skins for people if you are interested. The themes support both portrait and landscape modes. They are QVGA only though.
To Install:
Unzip all images (png) to your /windows directory. They will overwrite the existing HTC Touch Dialpad images. (I have included these below in case you want to revert back) Next, reboot your phone, or disable it off (airplane mode) and end the cprog.exe program. Re-enable the phone and you should be good.
To Request:
If you like this style and would enjoy having a custom skin just ask. I will need an image or both the portrait and landscape modes. If you would rather, just put up the .tsk file you are using for your theme and I can extract them. Depending on the response I will try to get them done within a day or so.
There have been a few other designers step up and help with requests. Most of these start around page 17. If interested check them out! There is a little more information in this post.
Well, I am not a programmer so this is about all I can currently do to give back to this community, at least for now. Let me know what you think! I hope you enjoy!

Wonder if it's possible for these types of dialers to make the buttons transparent, that way, you can just change the dialer background and easily change the dialer theme.
Also, this can work with sprint HTC Touch, but you need indialer_accu_p.png and indialer_accu_l.png which you can make from copying the number bar from the main screen dialer.
Thank you for your great contribution, you are such an artist.

Sorry about that. The first post now has the correct jigsaw.zip. As for you number issue? I have not seen this before. Check in you /windows directory and make sure the NmBtn0up_port.png and NmBtn0dn_port.png and the like are there and correct. This is just an image substitution so not much that can go wrong.

That was my original intent in making this skin. Just make the buttons transparent and then change one or two images to change the whole thing. I originally tried this, but the dialpad doesn't use pngs with transparent alpha layers. (or something like that) I will used the odd purple for complete transparent areas, but the blended areas didn't display correctly.
I am not an expert in this area though, so if I did something wrong and someone knows the correct way to get partial transparency, I will be glad to post up a generic version. As it is, I did the next best thing for me. Scripted up the slice and dice routine in Script-fu (gimp). Now all I have to do is change the back ground and push a button. Almost as easy.
Glad you like it!

Excellent work
PhilD41 great work. One of the reasons I haven't been using the touch dialer is that it is so ugly. I just stuck the the WM6 one. If I could get the dialer to look like the rest of my theme I would be well pleased.
I am using the theme attached. But I have a feeling that the dark color will make the names in the smart dial list impossible to read. Have a look and let me know if its possible.
Thanks in advance.

I will try to find some time tonight to play with it. I am currently using a fairly dark theme which is still readable. It isn't black though. If nothing else, it is just graphics so I could always lighten up the smartdial area instead of darken it. Hopefully I will have a screen shot for you this evening or tomorrow and see what you think.
Water and Fire Dialpad
Hey maccaberry!!
I think it turned out quite nice!! The dialpad is attached below. I have included a screenshot from my phone below. I have also included a tweaked .tsk file. I make a small change so the top and bottom bars are darker black. You can see the difference in the image below (right two images).
Let me know what you think. If I have time, I might make a PocketCM theme to go with it and add it to my pShades collection.

PhilD,
Man you are good. This looks fantastic. I am not sure what your pShades is, but I will have to check it out now that I have seen your work.
Thanks so much for your efforts. I have tried to put back into the forums by answering lots of n00b questions so that the developers have time to develop instead of answering questions. But what you have done here is a great way to contribute too.
Thanks so much!

Thanks I didn't notice
I'm downloading and trying now
You should have named the thread something more attracting like NEW POINTUI 02/05/08
Thanks for the info
First Glance
At first glance it looks amazing!!! I might get flamed for that but it is my opinion.
Currently,
-Sliding is smooth.
-It has a contacts application! Would like to see an option for Favorite Contacts.
-Calendar rework on the ribbon is great. Shows numerous days appointments.
-Dpad controls are present.
-Really intuative.
-Customization of animation is available under Customize Home. It can flip like the cube but in all directions.
-Battery drain is better but still a little more than my liking. This is probably device specific.
-Resource usage is down on my Wizard from before but still higher than most small programs
This is probably because things that PointUI controls in their interface like Weather, Contacts, CommManager
etc are always available immediately, no delay. It takes resources to do that. But I have to say overall 2 of
2 of the most recent cubes I have tried and 1 of the iphone knock offs I have tried have both been Ram hogs
with half the immediate access or smoothness this program gives.
-Messaging and calendar seem to be customizable to a degree still using a reg editor. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355961
-They have their own keyboard going on. Try to edit a contact and see what I mean. It would be nice to see it
skinnable because the color of it is so dark.
-Scrolling is still opposite. Both on press and direct, and flick to scroll but I like it.
------
Things I'd Like to see--These may actually come, see my notes below
-More options on weather. I like HTC Weather plugin much better. It would be nice to see more forcasts then
today and tomorrow. I really think a Hybrid of HTC Today Weather and Weather Watcher would be the best
but they may have an issue covering all of the countries.
-PointUI Calendar-Bet its coming
-PointUI SMS-Bet its coming
-PointUI VOIP
-PointUI Dialpad
-PointUI Media Hub & Player. Bet something like it is coming but man wouldn't it be great if they would team up with
A_C to make a killer integrated app!!!!!
-Rework the lock screen. Again they should talk to A_C here.
-Would like to see a Charging indicator on the home page battery icon. It does show however when pressed.
-Would like to see a Sync icon appear when connected to the PC
I haven't spent much more than 10 minutes with it. I don't know how customizable it is as of yet. It looks like on their site they are developing more programs and customizations to go with it. I also notice that at the top of the download section there was an emphasis on this Home being "Free". That along with the green check marks for some things and red x's for others makes me think that adds or improvements may cost money going forward.
Thats ok. Good programs do cost money and should be paid for.
I will add more as I test further.

Completely approve with you
I know it's a little early but to make this program "perfect" :
- an integrated SMS manager, like they did for Contacts
- surely theme customisation
- a shortcut manager for programs on the HOME screen (eg change the outlook calendar to ThumbCal or the Messaging to a program other than Outlook messaging)
Though, this program is still GREAT, and this update brings decents modifications and fixes

I believe the integrated SMS is coming. Just from looking at their website it will be there but they will probably charge for it and good for them.
Theme customization same thing
The shortcut manager is there in a way. Just press the "Star" Icon. I actually think it helps keep the screen clean of clutter. For you other 2 requests, ThumbCal and Messaging. You can change these using a reg editor. Not as simple as a ui but it can be done. Let me know if you need help with it.

new version looks promising..waiting for Wm2003 Edition
The new version is incredible!!!
a quick question
I am using version 1.02b, is it better to uninstall this version and start fresh? or should I use the update manager instead?
I really liked PointUI when it first came out, but realized pretty soon that I couldn't use it because of the way it lists the tasks. I was really hoping they had fixed that in this version, but see that it still lists tasks alpabetically instead of by due date.
Looks great, and the "Pick a version" screen definately implies "another (non free) version is coming soon"
Aaaa VGA version still have to wait

I would recommend you completely unintall the previous version. By that I mean go through their unistall method and soft reset. Then file explore and delete all info out of \Program Files. Then reg edit and delete all info in \HKCU and \HKLM. Soft reset and then use this one.
Cheers

Thanks for your work
Seems I'm the first one to reply, so here's my opinion. Please take this as constructive criticism. This program seems like a nice replacement for separate contact and dialer applications. However, at the momemt there are a few things that need to be fixed before I'd consider migrating:
1) Smart-dialing. Not debatable. This needs to be included by default. It is just, simply put, *the* most effective way to dial.
2) Appearance. I remember reading in the previous thread that someone thought the screen was too "complicated"/crammed. I think I'd have to agree. I think it's the monotonous cell-like layout that is off-putting.
- Consider brining in some variation.
- Make the dailpad's appearance different to the rest of the app.
- Consider a more "organic" appearance.
- Remove unnecesary items from the screen and list in soft-key menus.
Being a beta or pre release of this program we know about some bugs... hopefully there will be a way to to have a tweak for it to have this fix because it becomes irritating overtime and like ROMS we have to flash or to uninstall this immediately
although nice to have a keyboard which has less than 500kb
Quite cool, thanQ. Could do with t9 input though.

Hi H3x
Thanks for your remarks.
The most effective way to dial, in many times is the way you use to. I think that any system that gets you to the contact you want in a 1-2 seconds, is a good one. The o3touch system will bring you to the contact as fast as any other good system. It is also a meter of some training and selecting the best approach, considers the total number of contact you have. Try the “1-2 letters + space + 1-2 letter, for over 1000 contacts, try the 2-3 letters for less, try the “contain ..”, try switching between them as you search, and find the best for you.
The main point is what should take place following finding the contact. The application offers a full ability to manage the data as well as sending SMS or email, and many other options, all within the same environment.
I have tested the application for 3 month with over 200 users. It may take some time to get familiar with the different approach. Many times the first reaction is about the look and not about the do. Most of the time users study very fast how to do what. My offer to you is to give it a real one hour try.

Hello Jeen
What is the language that you want to switch to?
For the moment the application “talks” in English Russian and Hebrew. (Setting screen 3, row 3)
It very easy to translate and to add a new language. Also you can use a special desktop tool for the process of translation and producing the needed XML files.

This application does look very promising indeed! For any haters: try programming yourself and stop shunning his application. He's doing this in free time, so show some respect. For those offering constructive criticism, good advice.
In the last thread it didn't support on-screen QWERTY. Does it now, and if not, will it do soon?

Hello ShaunC193
The main purpose for the application is to support one hand fast operation for the common daily tasks. The QWERT keyboard needs too much room on the screen for one hand (and no stylus) operation. Sorry to say but for the moment, other things are in the ToDo list for the next version.
Thanks for the support. We buy top technology, full of graphic effects, and the day after go to look for solutions, in order to do the simple tasks in human way. It makes users displease, also to forget that it was not me to promises anything. The application concept is: No to scrolling and No to dragging, just Touch what you want and Touch More if you want more. It is not what we were told we should love and adore. Some time it is so easy that users can no find the obvious touch. It also offers a solution that works the same on any device, so it will follow me to the next one. Not everyone will install such a dull UI to notice its efficiency, and certainly not every one must like it.

Sorry for that, it will be fixed. If I remember correctly, you also advised to move the “Close” button in the contact info page to the center...
As for refreshing the screen, it is a known issue that accrues also in the situation of waking up the device while the app is on screen. For now, touch the “Fast dial” button a long press and it will refresh the screen.
Thanks a lot

Hello,
Let me tell a few words. I've made a russian translation of this excellent software. I'm trying to promote it in russian forums. I see two kinds of responces. Positive and not. I'll try to explain my thought.
IMHO, main raeson of o3touch dislike is not complete understanding of it's main ideas.
- o3tocuh is designed for one-hand operating, so there are no qwerty-keyboard, only phone-style dialpad. For devices with small screens it's may be a better solution.
- o3tocuh trying to spped up contact search. Try to turn on "Contains..." mode for search, and see it. I have about 100 contacts in my phonebook, but now I usually find needed one in a 3-4 clicks. One letter from name, space, oe letter for surname. Done. I didn't think that T9 search will be much faster, but also I think Arie will implement it in future, if it's so necessary.
- o3tocuh is designed to minimize memory and space usage, so there is no glittery-skins, 3D sound effects and so on. o3touch is like guud business class - not shining, not visually stunning, but you get's all you need. Two skins for day and night is enough for usual needs. Maybe in future, will be added color scheme editor. But as for me, it didn't makes much sence.
In conclusion, I can said - if you didn't try o3tocuh - please do it It takes not much resources, and runs good on any screen resolution (even wide-ones). If you tried and didn't like - give another chance, it's worth it.

Hi Arie
Do you have a French translation or do you need one ?
I will readily try to make it. Tell me where to begin

First I would like to say thanks to truburt for creating iCaller, without which this app would not be possible.
We have long awaited an app that will show you the caller's location based on area code. There are no apps I know of that are able to do this in real time, certainly not any free ones... until now.
LocateCaller will identify any area code in the 50 US states, DC, and Canada, and display the caller's location on the incoming call screen!
Features
Works with any area code in the US & Canada
Full-screen caller ID window
Screenshot
Instructions
If your phone has the HTC full-screen caller ID, you must disable it per the instructions here and then soft-reset
If your phone is currently using a third-party incoming call screen, disable it and soft-reset
Install the attached CAB
To test, open \Program Files\LocateCaller\iCaller.exe and call your number from another phone
The app will be added to startup automatically. If you can't get it to work, and troubleshooting doesn't help, simply remove the shortcut from Startup.
If the app works for you and you find it useful, please consider buying me a coffee
Technical Details
LocateCaller is an extension for iCaller. iCaller is a full-screen CID app created by truburt. Since it uses HTMLView, I was able to create this special extension using Javascript. Since iCaller is a native app, the use of Javascript does not hinder the speed significantly.
Issues
If your stock caller ID screen is still showing up, edit "settings.ini" in the program folder. Change sSysCallerWndTitle from Phone - Incoming to Phone - Incoming... Note the dots. Click "iCaller stop", wait 10 seconds, then re-open iCaller for the new setting to take effect.
This app is written in Javascript. Therefore, the only likely bugs are from iCaller or PIE. As such, it may be difficult if not impossible for me to fix certain types of problems.
If you are having problems, please make sure the bug is not with iCaller! Please report a bug here only if the stock iCaller works for you.
You may have to set PIE as the default browser to get this to work.
This is only tested on my Touch Pro because that is the only WM device I have available. It should work on other devices, but I can't make any promises.
Enjoy!
Update 31/Jan
0.9.1 released as CAB installer
Update 0.9.1
This is an update to add support for Canada as requested. Installation instructions are the same.

While i am guessing on this i would say its based of a list file which it references when it reads the area code off the incoming call.
I say this because it works for USA only, there is an aplication like what you speak of floating around here that works for all countries(never used) but of course it requires a data connection.
sbetten, I will look into Portugal.
Wizard, as stated this is real-time. All data is in the app itself. No data connection needed.

band, I believe Canada is based on the same number scheme as the US, so it should be easy to just add codes. I should be able to push out an update within the next couple of days with CA included.
i just tried but the default dailer is still coming up...i checked where you said in your readme but i dont think i would need to change that because im using WWE so idk :S
jug, you may have to change the window title in settings.ini to match the title of your caller ID screen. The readme.html is actually trubert's from iCaller... just giving credit where it's due. Also don't forget to stop iCaller and start again after any settings change.

Thanks! I miss the Touch Pro's dialer and incoming screen too. Unfortunately the only way I have found to get rid of HTC's incoming screen is to disable the dialer skin too. There is a way to hide the HTC incoming screen through some API's, however it would have to be implemented in the iCaller program itself. I think trubert is working on doing just that, so if you hold tight a little bit you may be able to turn your dialer back on soon. I wish I had the programming knowledge to intercept calls directly. Since I don't, I have to rely on iCaller for that functionality and then implement this on top of it.
