Twonkyserver mobile - Desire Themes and Apps

It seems that twonkyserver mobile (v1.1) crashes on the htc desire (2.1-update1). Back at twonkymedia they don't have a clue on the cause. Some people however have reported to have it working on their desire. Maybe if some folks would confirm it to have it work correctly they could give some global specs or how they fixed it. If some folks have it working and others not finding the cause wouldn't be impossible.
I would also like to know the performace of video streaming on the desire.
Would be great if video streaming would be possible on my desire.
Cheers

can any UK users report on the youtube app

Hi guys,
Got a HD2 at the moment, and the youtube app doesn't run too smooth, and video playback suffers from audio lag. Anyone tried the video playback on the N1 yet, and able to comment on quality..
Cheers
Darrin
I have HD2 and N1, i've not notice any audio lag on my HD2. I haven't tested N1 youtube app but i think it has more option then the one on HD2 like i can login to my youtube account and pull all the bookmarked videos.
thanks for that, strange how i seem to be having audio lag, tried 3 hd2's, and all the same, using wifi.
how do you rate the N1 against the hd2?
cheers
hmm i can't really tell much about N1 yet, as i didn't get much time to play around. I only had it yeasterday.
Any way try chosing high quality settings from youtube app on HD2.

Can you give me the link of the you video?
Any video really, have the issue with them all, the audio lags around 1/2 second behind the video, even when the video is copied to sd and played....
Would be interested to see if the N1 youtube app is better then the hd2, i expect it will be.....
hey guys,
got my n1 today...youtube playback is laggy - over wifi aswell.
audio is fine but video lags.
Might just be a one off, im currently charging the phone, gna reboot and see if theres any improvements...

Been on charge since my last post - youtube is now working perfectly on wifi and 3g in low quality - dont have enough patience to check vids in high quality as signal is too weak where i am.
Great quality no lag etc etc.
Also, if anyone's interested: Had a few signal problems (Vodafone) - re-inserted sim, rebooted and all is well in nexus world.
Worked like a champ on 2G where I am at! Best youtube app on any device I have ever tried, IMHO. Quick to load, even on 2G, great buffering, and so forth.

Audio always out of sync when playing back converted video :(

How can I solve this? Ive converted using MP4ForHD and something else called encoder or something (forgot now). Yet whenever I try to play a video thats been converted for the hd2 specifically, the audio is out of sync. If doesnt happen on videos I record, just others that are converted.]
Might it be the Leo's media player? would anybody recomend using a different media player (free) for the device?
Thanks in advance
~~~BUMPETY!~~~
Please help
I used 4 convertors (handbrake, HD, MP4 and the media coder mentioned in the forum)
all of which will result in out of sync audio.. even while vieweing in computer!!!!
Annoying huh? I dont get out of sync audio on the computer, only when playing on the leo
This is a well-established bug which HTC has so far refused to acknowledge. Your best bet is for you and everybody else to keep complaining to HTC tech support until someone higher up gets to hear about it.
What annoys me is not so much the bugs but the impossibility of getting hold of anyone at HTC to tell them about them; there seems to be virtually no communication at all between "tech support" and "head office". The bugs wouldn't be a problem if we could report them and get them fixed, but there isn't anyone we can usefully report them to.
Do the videos in this link play OOS?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5341496&postcount=32
As above, try setting an audio delay when encoding (if you can with whatever software you are using).
Works fine for me.
Hi, erm I think they play correctly, ( I tried the star wars one ) Its hard to tell when theres no lip movement, but yeah it seems right
So do you recomend using those settings in that single thread?
(might I ask you, what starwars thing is that? it looks so epic )
I've raised this issue with HTC support. Clips that are perfectly in sync on the Touch HD2 are out of sync on the HD2. I'll let yout know what they say.
Sure, just go along with kr00t0n's audio delay if my profiles give OOS results.
At least for me, my current setup on that thread gives me the best looking videos without too much fuss. But it also depends on the videos you feed into it. MKVs with dts/vorbis might encounter some problems....if you have those we can talk somemore.
That's Star Wars : The Old Republic iirc....upcoming video game.
Well I have a ton of mkvs lol, but Ive converted most of them to avi already so its not a problem. I tried that method, with your profile with the slight delays ect and it worked great! really high quality as well (Although I couldnt find where to change the FPS to 30)
The only problem was it took about 25 minutes to encode a 20 minute show which is pretty long @[email protected] Especially on a quad core pc
Here are some more 0.400 delayed 720p encodes:
This is why you should turn your pc on in the morning, queue up the videos, start encoding, then go to work, lol!
After some testing, I have found that the resolution of the original video needs to be factored in to the resolution used in WinMEnc.
Most videos are 1280x720, which is 16:9, but 800x480 is 16:10.
This will cause encoded videos to be stretched upwards slightly, or in the case of more cinematic resolutions (the Legion trailer is 1280x608) stretched quite a bit.
Using this website, you can find out what settings you need in WinMEnc.
Find out the original resolution and put it in the lefthand boxes.
Then put 800 in top righthand box, and calculate.
1280x608 needs 800x380 to maintain aspect ratio (no stretching).
I edited the ini to be 800:380, as you can't edit this in WinMEnc itself, save, then load.
Comparisons:
http://www.kr00t0n.com/Kjam/Legion.mp4
http://www.kr00t0n.com/Kjam/Legion800x380.mp4
no sync issues here. I use HDencoder @1000kbit Video 128kbit Audio and check Normalize Audio.
Never had a out of sync problem converting MKV to MP4.
Some MKVs contain an audio delay for specific audio tracks, which most converters cannot read. Have the same problem when converting/muxing MKVs for PS3. Maybe this is your problem here....?!
why bother converting??? just get coreplayer and play avi's....happy days??
I just wondered, I've read quite a lot the last few days that have said the BEEBplayer is now not working or working badly due to being primarily blocked. I wondered, is this true?
Mine is still working fine on T-Mobile.
weird. I tried it on wi-fi and it was really laggy
It works for me ..... some videos can be laggy and the quality is poor sometimes.
Does anyone have the same thing?
im getting really bad quality on mine running on the orange 3g network and over wifi and its really laggy
i also think the quality of the beeb app is bad and i'm on t-mobile, the real iplayer played flawless on my old n95 with great picture quality, hope when the iplayer comes to android its better than this app, youtube seems bad too on my desire so i think it may well be just the desire or andriod is just terrible with video.
Video quality is excellent on the desire more to do with your data connection I expect
there is nothing wrong with my data connection, and in my opinion the play back of youtube compaired to my nokia and iphone is terrible, as is the beeb app on android compaired to my iplayer on my nokia.
Frame rate is fine, resolution is a bit poor but it definitely isn't laggy for me.
Quality is bad on wifi, and really bad on 3G. I get sync issues on the wifi too - with the audio up to a second behind the picture. I'm hoping this is down to poor codec optimisation rather than a lack of power in the Desire.
I have not been able to get live radio to work. Is anyone else having the same problem?
EDIT:
Can't get the radio working either now, it was working for me the other day.
Watching DR Who on Beeb Player now, all ok on my T-Mob Desire via WI-FI
has anyone on orange got this working yet?
Live radio stopped a while back due to the BBC making changes. However it looks like the dev fixed this yesterday as there is an update available.
What is the audio quality like for every one?
My audio seems very low...
That's great. Just tried Radio 4 and the quality and volume is excellent both on WiFi and using 3g.
Skyfire Android beta now in marketplace
...video playback is great. UI's a bit iffy, and the zoom (it does support multitouch) is in steps, but the killer feature is the video playback. Just tried some online content and it looked excellent - worth keeping just for that I think as an alternate browser.
yup, thats my point actually lol, just for the sake of the video playback...
someone please get me the apk =D
it's on the market now
ya i know its on the market if you read my previous post....
anyways i found where to download it =)
i just watched grey's anatomy on it, and tried to watch alien, =D works wonders all on my amazing HTC Desire wooohoo
I couldn't get nothing to play lol
skyfire 2 is brilliants. It is still beta so no true serverside flash rendering yet, but it works just like the default browser with multitouch and with compression tehnology. Loving it.
I tried this app for ages yesterday but could only get one site to actually play any flash videos which is kind of the point. The site was redtube purely for research purposes of course
Sites that wouldn't play include:
itv player
demand five
megavideo
quicksilverscreen
empflix
vho
Can someone post some good video sites that do work? This app has a lot of potential but at the moment it's not living up to it. It is in beta though and I hope it will improve over time.
It is a pretty good browser though with multi-touch. Another nice feature is one button "connect as" - you can choose Desktop, iphone or Android which can load a mobile version of a site (or not)
purely a personal feeling, but I think the stock browser is way better, for what matters miles ahead of every other phone I've tried.
still, a lot of options is always an excellent thing...
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
yes the stock is way better, just that it cant play flash video like skyfire period..
i tested megavideo, it works 1 out of 10times.....dont know why.......
there are other websites that are working and i watch a full movie of alien on it streaming on a website...=)
I might have been lucky, flash worked 9 out of ten times on stock browser for me. good to know I can rely on skyfire when problems happen however.
my 'mistrust' for skyfire comes from trying to use the last version on WinMo and finding it really slow compared to old versions. sort of different on modern devices...
Me too even the BBC site loads the video but you cannot click on the play button it just sits there at the first screen or am I doing something wrong
Flash didn't work at all for me on Skyfire. Pinch to zoom was terrible aswell, it has this weird "acceleration" which means it zooms for half a second after you stop moving your fingers which I hated. I uninstalled it for now as the stock browser seems far better.
i am playing flash videos that i can't play on the stock browser....skyfire works great for me...
maybe all the years of helping old ppl crossing the road finally pays off, i am getting a good return...
the quest for 720p recording
Ok forum, the hd2 has gone long enough with its crappy VGA limited video recording. There is no need to ask if the hardware supports it because we all know it can. Contrary to popular beliefs hd2 owners must remember that the hd2 is a software sandwich. To the core it is using HTC SOFTWARE AND DRIVERS THEN AFTER THAT.....windows 6.whatever is placed to interact with the now easier to work with software to hardware communication enviorment (thanks to HTC ) and after that we have our nicely polished sense ui interface floating over it all.this is why going from a HTC sense shortcut to and HTC application is ALOT smoother than HTC sense to winmo (without a mask). Why am I telling you guys this? Because most hd2 users are unaware how this process even works. I did not create this thread to hear questions of "why can't we get this working on our hd2? D: I know blahblahblah phone that can ....." if you read enough threads you will see that is not what contributes to solving the answer. What does is trying your own experiments with solving the problem and reporting your method and experience with the thread you are concerned with.
Now that that's. Said, lets move on to our main topic. There are many presumed. Ways to go about trying to enable HD recording including redgistry editing, writing new applications, or where I am looking into, writing additional camera drivers. As of now it stands that there is no alternative camera application for the hd2 and I have a pretty good idea why. Any. App you. Download from the marketplace. Or wherever only needs the camera to take a picture of whatever so that it can utilize the file itself afterwards. There is nothing that involves the live use of the camera itself. This also gives you and idea of how this camera app sits within the software itself. To any chefs that may read this, next time your ROM cooking make a duplicate of your camera software and share it with this thread for users to experiment with(that's if you an isolate it with your kitchen). With that said, afterwards, those who are seriously looking into solving this problem should also get some driver knowledge under their belt. With this you can actually contribute by experimenting on your own with the camera software. Remember if you want a solution its best to tackle the problem yourself. It gets things done alot faster because you are not as reliant on OTHERS to come up with the next big thing.
This is communicate a lot of times in the past, no feedback/changes at this time
From what I've read, WM 6.5 doesn't support 720p video recording. The only way forward for 720p on the HD2 is WM7 or Android. For now, Android is the closest... there are several Android ports available already and video recording is already working up to 800x480.
1080p would be better..... haha, why not 1080p? ur all hopeless lol
wow OP, such a well thought out post, and then posted in the wrong forum!!!
I am of the impression that if 720p recording was possible on the hd2, the great developers of xda would have done it by now.
It's true but if the hd2 was an android phone 720p recording would be no problems cause they have the drivers for that. Windows mobile doesn't support that resolution but android or windows phone 7 do. It's all about the drivers there is no driver for windows mobile 6.5 that includes that feature. This feature is all up to windows to support not htc.
Sadly this is an illusion winmo can't support it. The device can play back 720p videos. And it is capable of recording as well. The way this works is that winmo simply is a mediator between your files and digital interaction with the hardware. It controls what is on and what is off however is NOT responsible. For intaking data from the camera device itself. That is where the difference lies between a device like the Neo touch and the hd2(as far as playback is concerned) but like I said beforehand, it all comes down to editing the camera application Itself. As for ..720p on android builds, you need to remember that these are essentially roms. From other devices ducktaped by Linux on the device. Its the equivalents of cutting an oak down to the exact size of an apple tree but you may never get apples from it nomatter how identical it looks. Granted there are still improvements. To be made but as it stands 720p recording still needs more looking in to by both our current developers and those to be aka YOU GUYS. so time to crack open your programming Theory books.....
impossible?
720p recording needs to be developed From my point of view it's only matter of software that will provide this function. Many times I saw that miracles tend to happen in xda forum so I'm very optimistic of this topic. I think that it's right topic, because a lot of people look here for new roms, so the answer will come more quickly what is cotulla's opinion?
there is more information about 720p camera recording
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719315&highlight=720p
Yes I know that threads purpose was moved here in a more focused manner of enabling the stock hd2 not android. If you can see I've already tagged the thread up and and as for cotulla, he is very busy with yet another ground breaking project of running windows mobile 7 on the hd2. It would be great if we had his support however there are times in life we have to figure things out without an XDA legend holding our hands.
Wrong, here is why: when you go to home depot and buy a washing machine, can you carry it home? Not unless your Superman. You need a strong truck that can carry it for you. Winmo can't handle 720p files by itself, that's where HTC drivers and a 1ghz processor compensate. On the device itself winmo just has to know what goes where and "how to drive the truck"
