Does the T-Mobile support video calling?
Thinking about getting it next week from here...Thanks!!
yes, keep a mirror handy.
haha, no joke. no front camera?
for what it is built on you figure it should come with front cam.
No joke, the Vibrant does not have a front facing camera. Samsung stated that having this feature was at the carrier's descretion.
i swear, t-mobile gets like the kid-version of any phones!!!!
thinking about switching net-provider.
Verizon- ledflash, prob. front video-chat, mute switch and slicker looking to top it off
Sprint- slide out qwerty-keyboard
At&t is out of the question b/c their data plan sucks since they dont offer unlimited-data no more

AT&T doesn't have front camera either...the GSM carriers want to avoid video traffic on their data networks...even verizon I hear on DroidX I think forces video call on the 1x rather then 3g (at least at the moment)..but same may happen to their version...
So come to the sprint side...
I was looking at the phone today. I saw a front facing camera. The MANAGER said it has two cameras- but, no app to use it, yet. It was NOT a proximity sensor. I had an iphone 4 and the vibrant and the ffc looked exactly the same. There is another set of pinpoint in an oblong circle to the bottom right of it which I assume to be proximity and light sensors. It has a total of three holes. One of which is three times the size of the others and has a lens in it. I believe it has a disable camera in it.

There are indeed three "things" on the top left of the phone when viewing it from the front. But even if it does not have a FCC, who cares? I would never use it. My other phone has one and I never used it
Chalup, let me have your other phone. Just coz you don't use something doesn't mean I won't. I like to skype to my family in Florida. That would be great to do on the go.

Now if everyone had a FFC... Then maybe you'd have a possibility of using it. ) I just found out that Skype blocked their service from Fring. What a horrible move.

Well, I did it. I got the HTC Incredible on Thursday. I cannot lie, thing this is fast. I will miss my hardware keyboard, but other than that i must say it is amazing.
What did it for me was I was finally able to get a sense build of android 2.1 working on the TP2. I was sold after that, looked at the incredible, specs, and gave it a shot, so far i am VERY HAPPY. The camera on this thing is amazing... Sorry if this was a rant, im not trying to put down the TP2 in anyway as the TP2 was an awesome phone for me for about 6 months lol.
Here is a link to my video on youtube showing it off a little bit - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tP-ZPF3sY8w
The screen doesn't play well with my webcam...
I made the same move, and I couldn't be happier. I'm even getting used to the on-screen keyboard.
If you still have your TP2, go ahead and take it's battery and drop that in the Incredible. The TP2 has the same output but a slightly higher capacity.
I would but I think the person who buys my phone off of eBay will wonder whats up with the bright red battery lol. I must say though, i've gotten great battery life so far with this phone.
I suppose you're right - I'm keeping my TP2 around as a back just in case, particularly after seeing current prices for used models on eBay (too low to bother).
average price of a sold unlocked tp2 is about $280... not bad, especially when i got it for $199...
Yep, made the switch too. Can't decide on the ebay route. My only issues so far are battery life, easily fixable, plan on a high cap battery, and no sim card. Good bye Global
I made the switch from a Imagio and never looking back!
I'm getting differing feedback on the Incredible. Is this truly a global phone? In other words, can I use it while traveling to Europe and Asia? Not that I am planning to but I want to be able to. I assume this phone is only available for Verizon.

Not a true global phone. It does not support GSM bands, no sim card. Im not 100% sure where it will work overseas though. Yes right now only Verizon has this phone I believe.
updated with youtube link for video
Made the move from ATT Tilt 2, jumping carriers because I just had to have this phone. I'm slightly put off by the battery life, signal issues (which seems to be present in your youtube video too), and the lack of simultaneous voice and data.
Other than those things.. I love it.
What about voice dial compared to the TP2?
On my TP1, once activated, voice dial would tell me what it thought I said and then give me a chance to try again, all with me not pushing any more buttons. AFAIK, the incredible doesn't do that, and that makes me a sad panda
yeah it seems to be an issue, but i still get good reception, even if it is showing nothing.
Im making the switch from my Imagio to the Incredible
Can't wait till it comes in!
Should get here Wednesday or Thursday!

You can also keep it for when you travel outside of the US for GSM capability (make sure it's unlocked before you leave).
This seems to be the exact thread I am looking for
I played with an Incredible at the store but the way they had the lock device on the phone part of the keyboard was not usable. It also did not have any vibration feedback when you press a key.
I currently have a Touch Pro that is used email both personal and work via Exchange as well as Text messaging for work outages. This leads me to use the hardware keyboard alot, and I have grown to love the dedicated number area on the TP.
For the users who have gone from a hardware keyboard to the Incredible, how was the transition? Is it manageable for longer emails? How is the Exchange support or is it worth looking at Touchdown to manage that? Would it be better just to go for the Moto Droid with it's hardware keyboard for longer communications?
Where did you get the nexus one live wallpaper?
Tryout xdandroid on your TP2 first

calash, I was following the xdandroid development closely so it was a good test to adjust to the switchover of android before making the jump. Also it's a safe way to test it out (boots android off SD card). Exchange and Gmail sync worked well (using "As email arrives") pulling in all my contacts and OS integration was nice between contacts/emails/google maps/etc.

Saying that GSM is the only coverage you'll get outside of the USA is not really true. There are CDMA providers in most regions. The real trick is what kind of coverage that will be. There are differing frequencies as well as data connections.
I have had CDMA coverage in all the areas I have traveled to. I don't worry about data, because I turn off all data features on my phone when outside the USA. Don't need any nasty surprises on the charges front.
Here's info for CDMA availability world wide:

Three things
1. Most HTC products contain nothing more than that. We're getting the HTC Evo for $200 locked/$450 unlocked. That's a ridiculously good price. Do you really want them to bump the price up by including accessories most people would hardly ever use? There's no way I would use a soft gel case, personally. They don't include headphones because the phone uses the same jack most MP3 players do nowadays, so they know people will use their own anyway.
2. What does the front facing camera have to do with anything? They aren't able to use it to its full extent yet because that feature hasn't been activated.
3. New York is getting 4G sooner than you think. There's a reason the launch party was held in New York City; the entire state is likely a target for coverage sometime this year. Do you really think you have it that bad? A lot of us aren't getting 4G until the end of the year, if we're lucky, and we're still stuck paying the $10 Evo tax.
There really isn't much to complain about.

I've had three HTC phones: T-Mo Shadow, Blackstone and HD2. Each came with charger, USB cord and case or pouch. The Blackstone and HD2 were Euro...maybe a continental thing.
Really, looks like a sprint thing to me. What else are they skimping on?
My HD2 is better all the time.
Yeah, from what I hear, phones overseas are pretty freaking expensive.
Regardless, Sprint most likely neglected to include any additional accessories to keep the cost of the phone down. I'm still glad they did it.

I got my Vibrant right at launch and I've never had a stable 3g signal. It always seems to go back and forth between 3g and Edge. I always just assumed we didn't have good signal in my area but I now know that isn't true.
I picked up a used G1 to take the camera out of to use at work and loaded it up with updated Radio, SPL, and Rom and it gets a steady 3g signal all the time and also got my wife a Mytouch 4G for Christmas and her phone basically stays on 3g all the time too.
Like right now my phone is sitting next to me on my desk at work and it's on 3g but when I pick it up and click on an app or two it goes back to Edge. Could this be a hardware issue and something I could fix like the hardware GPS fix?
Just to add I currently have Axura 2.2.7 and KA6 modem. I've used every modem that's come out and same issue with all. Thanks for the help.
bump for some help lol.
It's a tough decision because I like this phone so much but not having a reliable 3g signal makes it tough. If worse comes to worse I guess I will have to sell the phone and might go back to the G1 until something else comes out. Still debating on getting a G2 or mytouch but don't want buyers remorse when something better comes out next month.
Call t-mobile and see about a replacement phone. might just be your radio is bad? Or defective phone all together.
That's what I would do.

I had issues like this kinda I live in a hspa area and was having great 3g service 4bars all the time and one day it just would go to edge I called tmo talk to technical support and told them about it they had someone go out and look at the towers by me and they fixed it in 2 days im running 2.2.5.7 with KA6 and have great service still.

I really don't think there's a tower problem because I get great signal on my G1 and on my wifes mytouch 4g.
I'd love to contact Tmobile about this but I can't see it going anywhere because I've opened my phone and removed the camera. We can't have camera phones at work but we are allowed to remove the camera and replace it with permanent epoxy so that a camera can't be re-installed. Plus I've had the phone since launch.

Who makes you remove the camera and the epoxy of it? Why don't you just leave your phone at home or in your car then?
Anyways, that sucks. If it's a defective modem/radio you're kind of SOL unless there is a way to mod it?

Yeah, for your own safety I will not answer that question lol.
Leaving it in a car or at home isn't an option. I get up at 445 and get home from work about 1600, I sleep about 7hrs a night. I didn't pay that much for my high end "mobile" phone to only access it for about six hours out of the day lol. I don't mind not having a camera anyway, I never used it when I did have it.
Looks like I'm screwed on the signal issue. Sucks. So you guys think the Mytouch 4g or G2 would be better? Or is there another phone coming soon to Tmobile I should wait for?

There are many new phones coming in the next year - I would hold out a couple of months. (and I'm not talking Vibrant 4G+ )
I might wait a bit then. I can't see myself getting another Samsung. I'd have hung onto the Vibrant for quite a while if it weren't for the signal issues because it's a great piece of hardware. I just don't trust Samsung to keep us updated. Not saying I'll never buy a Samsung phone again but they will have to turn their track record around as far as updating software before I jump back in. HTC seems like a much safer bet although I won't have that pretty screen

I recently get to play with my friends g2 and it is a really nice phone especially if keyboard is a big thing for you. It by no means slower than a vibrant. The screen had a slightly inferior blackness level due to it being lcd but it will just be like your computer monitor, not that big of a deal. Vibrant does have the superior media experience: more codecs and voodoo sound support.

Just pointing out HTC g2 issue.
Hinge. A lot of people returned their g2 because of this z hinge. It's loose and dangles around.
People says they cant text while they're laying on their bed... which is bs since ur gonna support the top part (the one with the screen) with ur thumb and index finger.
Anyways it wobbles even with keyboard closed. Well at least that's how mine was.
A lot of HTC phones comes with qc issues. Such as loose battery cover, dead pixel, dust under the screen etc. (I replaced my mytouch 4g 5 times due to qc issues).
G2 have plastic screen Unlike vibrant (gorilla glass). It feels somekind cheap when u touch the screen. (only the screen feel cheap, the rest feels awesome
Ur gonna need to buy a SD card since only about 1.3gb? Internal memory is available.

You gonna sell the phone? Look on ebay for what's selling for more. the etf only applies to the line, not the phone. If you are gonna keep it to play with the phone, look at the forums for what has more out for it now.

I actually did just that. On eBay, the Mytouch 4g sells for more than the Vibrant or the G2. So that's one option. However, the G2 seems like the better candidate for experimentation and CM is already out for it. Or, the third option would be to get another Vibrant in case I ever damage the one I have. Decisions, decisions.
I think you should wait for dual core phones, since you can't really make up your mind. I know that it seems like a good deal right now to save the $150-$200. But by signing a contract you are shelling out alot more for the data plan, on top of that neither of the three phones are that much better than your current Vibrant.
Besides, the timing is just suspicious, T-Mobile is probably using this chance to clear their inventory to make space for the new phones being release this year.

Are grandfathered into a an older unthrottled data plan? If so, no free phone is worth getting throttled over.
As far as the timing goes, this was not my idea to begin with. This is all my wife's doing, I'm just along for the ride, but hey a free phone is a free phone.
I may just get a G2, use it for a bit as well as my Vibrant, and when the new dual cores come out, sell both and buy it outright.
Thanks to all of you guys, you were all a very big help, as always.
Hey folks, First off, I LOVE my note. It's the only reason I stuck it out this long but to make a long story short it almost left my daughter stranded in a very unfamiliar place yesterday. I am currently on T-mobile and as you know we don't get much love as far as service with the Note. So I put up with the signal bar with a nice pretty little x in it many times because I flat out love my phone even though my wife would have 4 bars of 4g. Well this incident made me realize that while having an awesome phone that barely works as a phone or just about anything else without wifi that having service and signal is more important. So here is what I'm looking for:
Trade: My unlocked galaxy note (Currently running Asylum ICS V09) with black speck case and has liquid armor for display protection.
Want: Galaxy Nexus or and HTC One X ( maybe S for T-mobile as well )
Also willing to sell for $400 flat ( Nothing less will be considered )
So before I go to the craigslist or feebay I wanted to give my trusted XDA people a first shot at it So PM me if interested!
Hopefully I will be seeing you guys in the Note 2 forums one day as I will be dying to get my big momma back
seeing that many people complain about this, let me get it straight,:
can you not use an international unlocked phone in the states? why is everyone complaining about weak signal? it should either work on that frequency or not work at all ,right? so why work with low coverage?
either ways this sucks and is totally unacceptable

Its not that it doesn't work. It's that it doesn't receive the 1700mHz band which T-mobile uses for it's 4g service. It will work fine on other gsm providers in US but unfortunately not on T-mobile until they convert to the 1900mHz band. So I pretty much get Edge wherever I'm at. One of our guys Bedwa has been working hard on getting it to work but there is no guarantees.
that should effect the speed not signal bars? I mean EDGE vs 4G is all about speeds
but you mention being with no coverage at all sometimes ? maybe their 4G coverage is better than 2G? is that it?
also I would suggest you change providers and not the phone ,cause you'll miss it

I used to work for AT&T so I refuse to go back to them lol. I know I will miss this beast, and I don't know the ins and outs of signal strength, I just know my wife has great service and laughs at me when I can barely send a text. If I wasn't invested into 3 lines of 2 year contracts with T-mobile however I would be gone in a heartbeat but I don't have the funds to quit right this minute. So I will reluctantly wait for the Note 2 and be back as soon as it releases
well then, good luck to you sir in buying your next phone
Both are good choices. If you like a pure experience go for the Nexus, if you like Sense go for the HTC One X.

Yeah, I did quite a bit of research before I decided what I would "step down" to before I posted. I actually like both devices very much. They both have their own advantages and disadvantages that I can easily work with. So like I said, if anyone knows someone who has either device but wants to get their hand on a note. Im up for the transaction
If I were you I would avoid the One X. The reason I got my note was because of HTC's ineptitude.
I PM'ed you.
OP, maybe the phone is faulty? What is your location? If you have any older Android phones, put your sim card in it, and force the Android phone to stick to EDGE/2G connections only to test the signal. If your older Android phone gets a single just fine, something is wrong with your Note.
I'm in the same predicament as you in terms of being on T-Mobile. Thankfully, I'm always within the area of WIFI. In terms of GPS, I just use the lab feature in googlemaps to precache map areas....and it works!
P.S. Open a thread in the marketplace. And be wary of anyone "PM-ing" you. Take the whole sale to the marketplace before doing anything just to be safe. And pay attention to any offers you get, and the person who is making the offer and their joining date. Good luck.
I just got hold of a Note after getting the One X. I wasn't entirely happy with the One so it will be going on ebay. The One has a great screen, and the f2.0 camera lens made taking low light photos easy. The downsides of the phone however are numerous in my opinion.
Design - the layout makes it hard to wake the phone one handed, as the power button is tiny and the capacitive home button doesn't wake it. The front camera is recessed, which makes it a grime magnet. The rear camera protrudes, making it a scratch magnet
Camera - excellent lens and camera app, average at best sensor (I actually think the Note takes better photos), poor quality HD video
Sound - forget all the Beats audio marketing hype, the One X has the worst sound quality out of any phone I've ever owned. The amount of hiss/crackles coming from the DAC make it sound like a long wave radio. I use my phone a lot for music, so this really put me off the One X.
Battery - in standard form the battery was terrible. The only way I could get a full day from it was to install a custom rom, reduce the auto brightness levels (which are blindingly high by default), turn off all push notifications and disable 2 of the 4 cpu cores. It also took 4 hours to charge!
Performance - very quick, but probably too quick for what the hardware can take. The phone gets incredibly hot when gaming to the point where the screen is almost too hot to touch. If you try and game while it's charging, you'll be greeted with a message telling you the phone is too hot and whatever you're playing will be terminated.
All these things made me try the Note. While it's not as snappy as the X and doesn't have a screen that's as nice as the X, it still performs well, still has a decent screen, better designed, has much better audio and has a phenomenal battery.
I think I'll be sticking with it
I use my note on tmobile I always have service sometimes I notice 1 bar but mostly have 3

Yeah I checked into all that. When I am at my buddies house I get perfect 4g service. I just can't stand the edge stuff. However I did not realize you could pre cache map data. That's awesome!! So thanks for heads up
The problem sounds like T-Mobile. Why not use your phone on Straight Talk, which is basically AT&T. I get excellent service on my Note. I highly recommend any AT&T compatible phone on Straight Talk. My wifes iPhone 4S works great on it as well. $45 a month unlimited everything, 4G speeds, not like T-Mobile's very slow speeds.
thanks to Poisonwolf for the comment on marketplace. I didn't even know about it lol. So anyway I am no longer updating in this thread but here is the link to the marketplace thread if anyone is interested:
