Is there a way to sort the Start menu.
Not only with "to top" and "to down" ?

Hi Msmsms1,
You'll need a registry editor like Total Commander
and browse to:
HKLM -> Security -> Shell -> StartInfo -> Start
Then open the icon you wish to move.
In there, there will be a 'Rank' entry, you can edit this by tapping it.
- The easiest way to change these is to swap positions with another icon in the Start Menu, such as:
Moving the 'Settings' icon to where the 'Today' icon is. To do this, you simply note down the 'Rank' entry's number of each, and type it into the 'Rank' entry of the other.
For instance, the 'Rank' entry on my Today icon is: 900000718, and the Settings icon is 900000938. Just swap these numbers over and reboot.
jwmd icon changer can sort your apps...
btw, try kenia startmenu for a better view...super improvement

Trying to set up as much of my main menus to be as finger friendly as possible but find the much used (instead of Alt + Tab) Quick Menu icon (in the top right hand corner) small and difficult to operate - the drop menu itself is fine.
Does anyone know of a tweak or app to size it up a little. Annoyingly probably the most laggy drop menu as well - but that is a different storey.
Thanks in advance.
Yep, I'd be interested in that too.
Moreover since I use my leather protection case.
That's no problem:
Go to the QuickMenu settings -> second tab -> there is something called "...spacing..." or "...item distance..." (I have Russian version, other name ) -> increase the value to "10"!
You can also replace the original menu, so you don't have to hit the Window icon in the top left corner, can also be found in the settings.
Cheers!

It's called "Menu item edge", and for me the best value is 8.
Good: it seems there is a solution - but unable to find the Quick Menu settings.....Have been looking through the normal menus but are they perphaps in the registry (apologies for the ignorance but new to WinMo).
you can find the settings in the QuickMenu itself xD
I'd really like to see two things from QuickMenu for finger friendliness:
1. option for scrolling instead of cascading menus (with a decent implementation of scrolling of course)
1a option to have menus cover the width of the screen
2. option to have the "Running Tasks" submenu come up when the upper right corner of the taskbar is tapped (decent task manager functionality is already built in)
2a option to specify what task manager utility is launched from the "Running Tasks" submenu
Hey, some time ago i changed some things on my HTC HD and one of those things is my start menu. When i open the start menu i see a list of smaller icons than you see in the standard start menu. In the beginning you only see the 7 programs that you want your start menu to show. But somehow i've changed my start menu which shows the following now:
Agenda
Messages
Contacts
Internet Explorer
Notes
Telephone
-------------
//Recently opened apps
App1
App2
App3
...
-------------
Programs
Settings
Help
The problem is, is that i forgot how i did this... So i was hoping any of you could tell me how i did this.. If i get the chance all also try to add a picture of my menu and the default menu, so you get a better picture of what i mean.

Using a file explorer, you can add or delete new folders to your 'Start Menu' folder. Name them like: Web, Travel, Utilities, System and Media. Copy relevant shortcuts from you 'Programs' folder in your 'Start Menu' folder to each of these new folders. You will need to use a 3rd party file explorer to unhide system files and rom files to see the pre-installed icons to copy them to your folders. These icons are '.ink' shortcuts. Also copy the entire 'Games' folder and 'Office' folder from your 'Programs' folder direct to your 'Start Menu' folder. Finally uncheck all checked boxes in Menus in Settings page. This will allow all 9 folders to show in your Start menu on your home page, where you can access specific apps much quicker. Remember each time you install or remove a program/game, you have to either copy the new 'ink' icon to your category folder or delete it.
You can also use utility apps like HDTweak & Advanced Config to change size of Start Menu
If you go to Start/Settings/System/TouchFLO you also can change Start Menu size

For the plugin names you have to modify the registry, in each one of the plugins under HKLM/Software/Microsoft/CHome.
For the Taskbar and the expanded Taskbar menu there are cabs with skins in the different forums, depending of the resolution of your device, just search for them.
Hi,
As part of my customization process, I would like to disable some icons from the Setting menu's of WM6.5 (not TouchFlo).
I managed to remove a lot of icons through the registry settings in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Speech, by moving them to a non-existing group (Group=3). This works fine.
However, some of the icons in Settings/System do not appear below this registry key, such as External GPS, Encryption, Remove programs... Is there a way to remove these as well?
Alternatively, removing the entire Settings menu would also be fine. My first approach, deleting the Settings folder from \Windows\StartMenu causes the entire Start Menu to appear empty!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
UPDATE: I managed to remove the Encryption icon by ADDING an 'Encryption' key to the ControlPanel part of the registry. Other icons I haven't so far. I suppose the key lies in correct names.
How can I obtain the names for:
Managed Programs
External GPS
Error reports
Memory
Info
Country Settings
Regional Settings
Microsoft My PHone
Remove programs
Screen
Task Manager
Connection settings
??
Setting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo:HideSettings to 1 hides the Settings folder from the Start Menu. That fixes my problem for now!
I rather choose to "hide" my icons.
You can do this by changing the registry like this:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Encryption]
"Group"=dword:00000002
"Hide"=dword:00000001
This will hide the Encrption icon in the Settings panel. I use this on the Rhodium, Blackstone, Diamond etc. but it should also work on the HD2 I guess
mccune,
The "hide" could be done for entries that are present in HKLM\ControlPanel like Encryption. For those entries that DO NOT EXIST in ControlPanel but whose icons appear in Settings like "Microsoft My Phone", do you have any idea how to suppress them?
Thanks for your assistance.
Noticed there are also some numbers in that registry key. Guess you'll have to trial and error a little to see what number corresponds to what icon.
I'm still looking for a way to hide the "Managed Programs" icon ;-)
Perhaps this program can help you out.....either hide the icons or put them away in a folder......
This program only applies to WM6.5 and also just to the Start Menu. It's fairly easy to remove icons from the Start Menu, just delete the LNK file in \Windows\Start Menu\
The discussion was about the icons in Settings. Most of these files are CPL files.
mccune,
It's exactly that! The file underlying that icon is Windows\MyPhoneLauncher.cpl for the application "Microsoft My Phone". I tried a number of ways to rename the file, rename the extension CPL in CPL2, move the file to other folder, even delete the file in order to remove it from Settings/System but always failed.
The file appears protected as part of the ROM. This is the 2nd day I'm after this problem and I still see no light...
(I tried to use the tool JWMDIconChanger but it doesn't work. Thanks anyway.)

Does anyone know the name of the .cpl file, or the name of the registry key in \HKey_Local_Machine\ControlPanel\, for "Managed Programs"?
I looked, but can't find anything that even remotely looks like "Managed Programs".
Hi,
Is there any way to change the bottom left Windows Icon shortcut. Its default is the same as the middle hardkey to call the application folders. I want to change to another application.
thanks

Since you're on an EnergyROM, you have AMeBa (X-Button Settings) pre-installed.
Go to Start > Tools > X-Button Settings > there's an option there (I think it's the first page) that has things to do for the Start Button. Change that option to "Run App" and select an application you want to run when pressing that button.
It works . Thanks a lot.
