Hi,
A lot of the apps on my Desire have a sliding tab bar implementation - the 'People' app for example, where instead of selecting a tab by 'stabbing' it, I can slide my thumb from one tab to another. Is this control an HTC specific control or is it part of the Android API somewhere?
If it is HTC specific, is there a good base Android alternative?
Thanks in advance for some pointers.

Hello!
I have started developing some small apps with Visual Studio 2008 and the Windows Mobile 6.0 SDK using C# for my HTC Touch HD.
Now, I have a problem. I have a numericUpDown-Panel in my app and for this I want to use the numeric inputpanel of the htc phone-keyboard. But when I enabling the input panel, I only get the normal htc phone-keyboard. I know how to switch between the input panels (QWERTY, phone, ...), using the InputPanel-Class, but I don´t know, how to switch between the different panels of the htc phone-keyboard (normal, signs, numeric).
For example, when I create a new contact in the phonebook and I select a field for a phone-number the keyboard switch to the numeric keyboard.
And this is exactly that, I want to use in my app.
Has anybody an idea?
Cheers Michel
Sorry to bump a very old message, but I'm wondering the exact same thing for my HD2...
I've seen other programs do it, but how?!
Hiya xda, longtime reader and I am greatly in debt to you all for your insight into how to best get my Mr. Pocketphone awesome.
So, I have myself a Touch HD and am using Dutty's 3.9 which uses Touchflo 3D 2.0
The input menu on touchflo by default displays only three inputs when you pull it up. The first two are static: phone keypad, and full qwerty. The third one you can change by pulling up the "other input methods" option and selecting an input.
My question is: is it possible to change the first two static input options to something else with a registry tweak or something? I dont really use the phone keypad and would like to replace it with another one I regularly use so I dont have to go to the other input methods menu so often.
I have searched and searched, but cant seem to find an answer.
Any help you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Use the following app SIPChange
Once installed, open up SIPChange and then select whichever keyboard you want to use as default. Now, even after a reset your choice will be default keyboard.
Thanks for the reply. I guess I should be a little more clear though.
I found this solution in the forums already, and thats not exactly what I want to do.
I want to change entrys that pop up when you tap the little arrow next to the keyboard on the bottom of the screen to bring up the entry menu.
On regular Windows mobile when you bring up the entry menu it just lists all the inputs you have installed on one long panel, but on Touchflo 3D there are only three inputs that appear, then to select additional inputs, you must click on the "other input methods" menu option.
My question is: Is there a way to substitute an input from the "other input methods" menu with one on the main input panel?
Of the two that are there by default on the main input panel I only use one, so i would like to substitute it with another input that I use more often, thus saving me the time of having to click the little arrow, then other input methods, then the input.
I guess this is a touchflo 3D specific problem. so i dont know if any registry tweak would fix it. Any help would be great though.
anyone know how to do this?
change order of the input menu entry's?
I am using a Bluetooth Keyboard more often now with my Phone and one problem that remains is that if i need to change from using the onscreen to the bluetooth i have to go in to settings and disable the on-screen Keyboard.
or else every time I select a text field the keyboard will pop up.
The 3 solutions i have considered are as follows:
1. Create a toggle Widget that will disable/enable the on-screen keyboard (OSK)
2. Change androids config (permanently) so the only way to access the on screen (OSK) keyboard is by Long-Press MENU.
3. Make so, when a Bluetooth HID Device is attached the OSK will not auto open.
-- Sorry i have searched but found nothing, and personally i have no skills in creating this solution---
I have found the following maybe someone else could do something with this:

Any advice or direction would be appreciated.

Hi guys!
I have a question about the SGS2.
On the latest version of my OLD HTC with rooted ROM Reflax it has arrows under the keyboard.
While the SGS2 doesn't have a trackball/pad, I would like to have a keyboard with arrows so I can go back/forward/up/down in my characters in my text.
Before the SGS2 I had the HTC Desire that one has a trackball/pad.
It would be awesome if someone know an app, or would develop one for me and other people!
(Sorry for my bad english grammer, Im not the best with it..)
Greetings,
RedFeather
AFAIK the stock keyboard doesn't have this option but I didn't use it long enough to discover it. Try 'Gingerbread Keyboard' on the matket by Steven Lin which is free or Perfect Keyboard which is paid but lives up to its name. Both have the required option if you swipe up in the space bar.
Regards.
Thanks, and i see this is placed in the wrong forum? How to replace it to Q&A? (New to XDA)
Someone else got an option?
Smart keyboard pro as the ability to put arrows on the keyboard.
Used it on my MIUI roms and worked great.
In Settings you enable or disable it and with a HTC skin it looks exactly the same.

And else, do you have the pro version .apk for me? (A):$
Swype
The built-in swype keyboard has the ability to show arrow keys.
To get them you need to swipe from the swype-key (bottom left) to the "sym" key.
Today I've accidentaly found out how to switch different language keyboard layouts on my Bluetooth HP Wireless Keyboard (the one designed for HP TouchPad). In the past, I always struggled when tried to search for info about switching layouts on BT keyboards on Android. Most of the instructions are outdated (from pre-BT HID Android support era) or very complicated system files hacking.
I have a suspition that my todays discovery is related with the latest firmware upgrade (KK* > LA4). After this update, every time I connect the HP wireless keyboard, it always overrides my input method from NullKeyboard or any other to Samsung's default. Good thing is that you can hide soft keyboard by hitting back button and it doesn't reappear until you touch the screen/text field again. And the best thing is that if you have two (or maybe more) languages activated in Samsung keyboard setting, you can switch layouts by swiping the soft-spacebar (assuming you have the swiping option on in the Samsung keyboard setting menu). Layout is then reflected on bluetooth keyboard too! Perhaps this works with other bluetooth keyboards from other manufacturers too. Also, when you activate one or more layouts, you need to turn off and on BT keyboard once (reconnect in other words).
I just wanted to share this with you, the great community of XDA ;-)
