Have only had my HD2 since Friday and was going to send it back tomorrow because the speaker has never worked. But now it's starting working.
No idea what triggered this or whether it'll remain "fixed" forever. All I did was try to replicate something that made my HD2 freeze in a completely unusable way yesterday (see my other thread) and suddenly it started working.
Having done a search it appears a few users have had speaker issues. Has anyone else had this problem rectify itself? Can I expect it to remain okay?
Cheers

So I posted a while back about a problem that I was having, which has yet to be resolved, but I figured it would be best to narrow down the problem until working towards a solution.
I'm sure you've all experienced chirping feedback when you put your cellphone too close to a speaker or other audio device (not consistent, happens for a few seconds every now and then). Well, whenever this happens, or whenever it WOULD happen if my phone was close to a speaker, my TyTN decides to cycle through the SMS/Text/Outlook a million times over. The only way this stops is when the "chirping" ends.
This happens when browsing the internet.
This happens when making a phone call.
This happens when receiving a phone call.
Here is the info of what I am currently running.
Hermes 200 (TyTN) HT636
ROM 1.18.255.3
I also do NOT have a 3G sim yet (I need to get one)
applications:
opera
pocketsnes
im+
So now I have 4 questions on how to resolve this.
1. Would upgrading to a 3g sim reduce the chirping feedback/resolve the problem?
2. Would getting better shielding (maybe battery?) stop it?
3. Would a ROM upgrade fix the problem?
4. Would a Hard reset fix the problem?
Any help would be awesome.
just a small update for anyone who might have the same problem.
I tried upgrading to the most recent HTC ROM, and it did not solve the problem. I then upgraded to the most recent Cingular ROM, which has so far (knock on wood) fixed the problem.
On the downside, moving to the cingular rom somehow blew up all my contact backups on my computer. But then again, I just cut 200 numbers out of my phone that i rarely/never use anymore.
Hi all,
my hero crashed every now and then, i'm not sure what causes this. This really annoys me, because taking out the hero battery is a hassle. It happens like this:
- hero is in sleep mode for some time
- i can't wake it up anymore, doesn't react to any hardware button input. Screen stays black.
- i can't softreset
- only taking the battery out will help out.
Now i want to know who the culprit is, and use a logfile app. My problem is following:
will the logfile app help me at all, AFTER the crash has occured and i reboot the phone? Will the logfile have entries from BEFORE the last startup, or is everything lost by rebooting my device?
Thanks,
shahpur
Shahpur, I have this problem and when I called HTC Europe they said they have never heard of this happening. You press every button and nothing happens. You don't know it's off because the screen is in sleep anyway!! And like you the only thing that gets the phone back is taking the battery out. And then it comes on again. I initially took sim and battery out when it happened, but after it's happened a few times I now know you only need to take the battery out which is a pain, because no buttons will wake the phone when it dies. They said it is probably a hardware problem and not software so a reset or upgrade of ROM will not make any difference and want about 3 or 4 weeks to repair phone, which is not even 2 months old.
Has anyone else had this problem yet? The phone just dies until you take battery out.
I've done 2 factory resets but nothing helps, and I don't want to send it back for a repair.
How often does yours do this?
hmm i would say it happens sporadically every now and then, maybe once a week or so.
But this is definetly not an hardware issue. If the OS fails to respond after getting into sleep mode, i can't imaging that this is a hardware fault which works flawlesss otherwise. I never had any problems with the hardware buttons when working with the device so i think this has to be software od OS related...i have a lot of 3rd party apps and i think it has to do with them...
I will not send my device back because:
you cant easily reproduce this bug, so i'm pretty sure that the repair center will not be able to reproduce and fix this issue. Therefore you might get the same device back, or another device which may also have any other problem like dead pixels, LED problems and so on.
Since my hero is working perfectly and has no other issues besides this annoying bug, i will wait for the next android update and hope that this will help the system get more stable...
well they said I was the only one that reported it and as I am in the UK and you are in Germany I doubt this is true. But I would be interested to hear if anyone else has reported this issue. It's really annoying, I get it every few days, and on Monday twice in one day. It's not where I am as it has happened in 3 different locations, but I don't have any 3rd party apps, or any apps downloaded, so it is not that I'm sure. Have you done the new update and had the problem since then as well as before the update?
i think i had the issue already with the old firmware, and the new firmware didn't fix it too. My device also crashed twice yesterday...
interesting to see that your device crashes without any 3rd party apps...so i think the best way to dig deeper, is to check the logfiles.
hope somebody can answer my logfile app question, so i can find out what was the last task before the device crashed.
Yep, there are no added apps on mine, yet........ So, don't worry about them, It's the phone that you and I have. But we are in the minority. I was offered a reconditioned by Orange, but I don't want a second hand phone with more problems like you say
Just as a matter of interest, what happens if you call the phone when it is in this state?
Regards,
Dave
Well it's dead/off, so answerphone......
Sorry to bump this thread, but I am also having the same issue. Did anyone manage to resolve this issue?
Me too!
I'm having the same issue and it seems to be happening more often. I have sent an email to HTC but no reply yet.
Any fixes?
Mine is a SIM free purchase from Play.com
in my case it was most definetly a 3rd party app which caused the crashes. Since i have like 40 apps installed i'm not sure anymore which one was the culprit, but it seems like i have either uninstalled the app or a recent update fixed the problems.
i didn't get any freeze for many weeks now.
HTC Reply
Got an email back from HTC advising a Hard Reset. Did this last night and no more crashes so far. Fingers crossed
I've reset mine maybe 4 times in 4 months, but I still get this problem
Any update from anyone on this little running saga of the invisible offs?
So I've been following along for a while, and first off, this is an amazing forum. I've learned tons. Second, I have an issue. I've used Fresh 2.0d and DamageControl 2.07, and I keep getting the same problem. After a couple phone calls, I cant hear anything on my phone. If somebody calls, my phone picks up and says connected, but I hear nothing. Second, my camera stops working at the same time. I can't figure it out. I think it's a program conflict, but I'm unsure. I'm uninstalling apps one by one to see if it clears up, but they might take a while. I have to uninstall it, reboot, then wait to see if the problem goes away. Anybody heard of this issue or have a solution? Thanks in advance!

Would that fix the camera problem as well?
AUDIOFIX
Yes, that is randomly picking people. Some with the exact same roms do not get it for some reason. Just do the AUDIO FIX that is posted on the link above and you should be fine. Good Luck
last month i started having problems with the microphone, at first it happened once a week now i happens every day. from what i noticed, everytime the phone heats up a bit due to usage or charging, the microphone stops working all together, not in call and not in sound recording. usually to solve this i shutdown the phone for a good 15-20 minutes and after that it works until next time it heats up.
now i am not completely sure that its exactely because of the heating up issue, i have the phone for more then a year and the only time before this that i had a problem with the microphone was because of the wonk issue in CM7, but this is all together different, i am using latest cm7 nightly, ir kernel (the issue happens even on a clean install of cm7 nightlys/rc.)
anyone has an idea of what might be the issue or how i can solve it? and does anyone think i should send the phone to htc even though i bought it from 3rd party retailer?
Noticed within a few hours after rooting, my mic was not working. Callers could not hear me. This occurs for both regular calls and Hangouts calls. This dosen't seem to be a hardware issue as the mic works for google voice assistant. Seems to occur out of the blue, and so far ive been messing with settings and somehow the mic began working again, but the issue repeated itself later yet again.
Has anyone else had a similar issue?
Looks like im a loner with this issue. This may still be a HW issue. Might swap and get a new phone while i still can and see if the issue persists.
I have a river_amz I just obtained, waiting for sis to come over and get the FRP thing sorted. I'm going to be rooting immediately after unlocking bootloader. I will post here and let you know if I experience the same thing.
Have you found out anything since your last post regarding this btw?
No. It's been solidly working all day yesterday. Trying to make it fail again.
My only hope is its not a intermittent HW issue that will pop up bigtime after my return window expires.

So far, I've not experienced the issue on a rooted river_amz on 16_7.
Mic on MOTO G7 not working
I'm having an issue like this, but my mic just does not work at all. I'm pretty sure this one is a hardware issue because the only way I can talk to people is plugging in headphones. Do you have the regular G7, or the play/power/plus?
