Froyo aria source code release from htc.

Question is does that indicate att is going release there froyo update for thee aria? Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Where do you see this?
Modders and ROM developers are about to bury themselves in source code today and will chug six packs of Red Bull to stay up late into the night hacking away. HTC has released their valuable Android 2.2 source code for the EVO 4G, DROID Incredible, Aria, and Wildfire today allowing programmers and enthusiasts to get their hands dirty with code.
This is a pretty standard thing, as the Android operating system is open source and anything developed in conjunction with it has to be made available to the public. What’s funny about this release of code is that HTC has basically preempted all carriers except for Sprint as the Aria, Incredible, and Wildfire have yet to see the “official” release of Android 2.2. This confirms that it is the carriers that have slowed down the upgrade process on their devices making options like rooting and modding so popular. Even with the slow down, this release shows that the carriers are getting ready for the “official” releases.
The release of the Android 2.2 source for HTC devices is going to prove to be an awesome edition to what modders have already gained from earlier ROM leaks. So, keep your eyes out for some new ROMs over at xda-developers and other modding sites as it is about to get crazy out there!

i saw this a while back...i was curious when we would start seeing some mods made from this...i wish i had the know how to develop this stuff id be all over it...perhaps someone on here is and there almost finished with it...i running the cm6 rom and its sweet just wish there was a better oc kernel that worked well with it
HTC has not and does not release "source code" for any of their ROMs, only the kernel sources which they are required to release. So far, kernel source released for the Aria is still behind the kernel source released for the Snapdragon processors that HTC used in it's 2.2 builds. Nothing new has been posted for the Aria for a while.
Ahe... I see not really much of a code monkey ..but i got you

HTC Desire to get Android 2.3. How about Legend?

Found this in Phandroid.... http://phandroid.com/2011/02/17/coming-this-spring-android-2-3-for-the-htc-desire/
No announcement for Legend though.
w00t! Desire gets Gingerbread! Can't wait for it to come out!
dont ...
don't hold your breath for the improvements it's not really worth it especially for htc
download the 2.3 keyboard and you got 1/3 of the update
as 2.3 is mainly NFC support(dosnt apply) new keyboard(i person like htc's better cuz of the content text prediction) and improved copy and past

Without a Legend S, I don't see much hope for a Ginger upgrade.
Not gonna happen.

I don't understand HTC... First what does that mean to use the same name of their concurrents for their new phones ??? Desire "S" ? wildfire "S" ?
serioulsy, are they thinking that people will buy their phone cause they thing of the SGS or the NS ?
Second, a new desire, a new wildfire, and no new Legend ? WTF ? It's the best design they got among their phones, and they still do some crappy plastic phone (ok it's a bit strong, not crappy).
A new Legend, more slim, maybe a bit bigger screen, new proc but still in one piece of aluminium and here we go, they would have sell that more than they will sell the wildfire "S" !
Anyway, the gingerbread roms will be available soon for Legend. There is CM7 RC, and when the wildfire S come out, some SENSE ROM will for sure be released...
Thanks to the the great developers we have the chance to have in the community !! Thx you all.
i think that Legend update will be announced... for me it about 85%
maybe after this spring
You remember how long it took HTC to announce an update to FroYo (It was about half a year after Google announced 2.2)
So if HTC will update the Legend to 2.3 it will probably be summer before they release it.
heard that a lot of devs don't think 2.3 is worth the R&D, so are waiting for 2.4.
The desire out sold the legend 10 fold on release this forum is bearly alive compared to the desire's. The wildfire sold like hot cakes because of the price so unless they priced the legend at £250-£275 it would fail just like this 1 did.
Don't get me wrong I would like to see a legend s but look at it from a marketing point of view an you will see why it makes no sense at all.

I think that 2.3.2 is a big possibility for Legend, why you ask?
Well it is simple. Wildfire S is almost a clone of legend (600mhz, 3.2" and 480x320 screen) so the software will probably be easy to port over to Legend.
now the problem is operators. Do they rather want us to buy a new handset or upgrade.
yup... Agreed, the Legend forum is barely alive. There is only 2 almost perfected rom that is available. Unlike the desire forum, there's lots of goodies there =(
IMHO, update the htc legend to 2.3 (2.4 too) will not be.
Sorry for my english, please.
If we get 2.3 it will be down to the great devs here on xda not HTC. 2.3 was out before HTC released froyo for the legend so not much chance of them bothering.

Why make these claims? They could very well turn round and give us a special release of 2.3 with the new Sense for the special 'few' who got the Legend, ya just never know!
My view is simple: Wait and see, and not make claims about us not getting 2.3. How many of you would still use 2.3 and HTC Sense? Most of us here are running custom ROM's anyway which don't use Sense....
Just saying...

Not for Voda Legends
For those who're desperate to try out 2.3 and have rooted their Legends and are also capable of flashing a ROM, you can of course try out the CyanogenMod 7 nightlies. They're based on 2.3 unless I'm grossly misinformed.
When CM7 is finished, I may well give it a try, provided it's not a giant clusterbuck of a mess compared to blay0's ROMs...
I just want the new notification drop down down menu and the re arrangeable home screens from the new sense ..

I'm running CM7 full 3 (oh, full 4's out) with the radio upgrade from the dev forums, and it's pure awsome. gingerbread googness. battery life and speed are off the charts.
blayo's rom is very good, but i gotta say CM7's... gingerbread.
you'll loose flash lite, but the novelty wore off quickly for me.
lets be honest, it's pants.
new HTC Legend user
Hi, I have a new HTC Legend and i have read your posts, so i know that i can´t upgrade to 2.3. But if i want install some small aplications i need do something like hack software like in a NOKIA devices??
I would like some help.
Thanks

Gingerbread - X10 users did it, won't we?

Due to popular demand, Sony Ericsson changed their mind and will now release Gingerbread for X10 phones:
http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/
So, now that it is proven that pressure over a manufacter works, and Samsung is very slowing and late releaseing 2.2, should we start a campaign asking for 2.3? There is no single reason a phone can't get 2.3 except lazyness from manufacters.
Yes I think we should.

Gingerbread will be ported to our fone by devs...the new dev which have combined...mayb news in april n stuff...! \m/
Well, that is good news, I did not knew anything about some dev porting 2.3 to Galaxy 3. If this is true: \o/ (much better than a official rom)
some info!
the team said that they will have team discussion abt porting it to G3 cuz they are porting it to G5 now... they also said that it would take abt month to port it if everyone would do their jobs
Witch group is porting? Cyanongen?
Samaung has still not released official froyo in many countries....
Dont expect official 2.3 b4 2012...

dont know abt cyanogen but gingerbread
It is not Gingerbread, they are working over JPM rom, sorry guys
The good news is that they are porting a lot of new stuff into their rom, it could end up being even better than a 2.3 one.

no im pretty sure that rudolf said that they were going to port gingerbread to our devices + JPM rom! heres the message: Originally Posted by Pauri

Rudolf: well for now all i can tell is mad team is porting it for Galaxy 5! then why can we port it for Galaxy 3! We will surely have a team discussion for it
Thanks. I asked them in the official thread about their new project and they told me it was JPM.
So looks like they have a second project rolling, that is porting 2.3 to G5 that maybe can also be for G3.... We can only hope
They aren't porting it to sg5, its a different team. I dont dont necessarily have 2 projects going on, he just said they discussed it. I'm pretty sure that they (or somebody else) will (eventually) (attempt to) port gingerbread to sg3
whatever may be the case...g3 mayb getting the best custom rom startup or the 2.3 port!
PS - Lesty isnt der in the ARMKV team!!!

I know. I'm hoping Xmas comes early with some custom GB Sense kernels.
Here's to hoping
Will this really help us? I mean, I know our phone is similar to the Evo and all but it's not like we were good to go with gingersense roms when the Evo gingerbread leak hit. We still needed to wait for our own leak before we could get those booting.

What the LTE EVO means for the OG EVO (development wise)

So once the LTE Evo/One S/OneX makes it into the hands of developers, Will devs be able to glean anything from the new HTC handsets that will help in the development of ICS for our OG EVO?

Its the kernel thats really stopping it we have a aosp but sense needs to release the source code for the kernel for dev to get to working. its where the good stuff drivers are in. Its easy to port will need the kernel so......
And HTC is obligated to release kernel info within 30 days. If I remember correctly.

Going by Ca1ne's post HTC will release 90-120 days after it's been out.

I believe that's only relating to an OTA update. It would only make sense that a newly released device would have a shorter time frame.
