what?! Seriously?!? Heck yeeaahhhh

Is it continuously up? Saw some earlier posts about it being up in the area sporadically for a day or so

really? that's terriffic news. I was looking to pick one up at bestbuy on college point blvd and at corporate store on Roosevelt today, but sold out at both locations.

I drive all around queens due to my stupid job, and yes i get 4g usually long island city but as soon as u cross the queensboro bridge thats it, mostly woodside, a very little by forest hills and elmhurst.

same except in my house
route 7 runs past my street
on my street i dont have any but on route 7 i have signal its weird
In Clarendon and Courthouse neighborhoods of Arlington I get about 2mbps...
Not particularly spectacular, but the high speeds and faster phone makes it way faster than my iPhone 3G.
Virginia has 4G before Colorado? What is wrong with this picture.............
I live in herndon and I get 1 to2 bars averaging 2+ mbps not spectacular but faster then ATT.

The signal strength is really just your strength to the tower, not your connection to the internet, just FYI I have had higher speeds with 1-2 bars than with a full signal. Anyway there are some spots in Houston, TX near where I work that I can get ~8-10Mbps down on, but I usually average about half that. Here are some pics, also btw a download test is a bit more accurate than those "speed tests" they can lie to you sometimes.

Yup. Northern VA, Richmond, Hampton Roads >>>> Colorado . We don't have any 4G here in Hampton Roads that I know of yet (no Evo til Monday), but there is a new Clearwire antenna/tower near my girlfriends house. I hope there are many more of those to come and soon.
I want them to put one in in Springfield. That's where my office is and 4G would be awesome!

There's definitely 4G at Franconia Springfield Metro Station in Virginia...and at the Telegraph Road Gate to Fort Belvoir...

Apparently there are two antennas live in downtown Denver and others aren't live but have been spotted (including on the Sprint call center in the tech center) so its coming here too very shortly.

That's good to hear. I wish Sprint would give us a real roadmap of their 4G rollout. There's no point in hiding it when people know the towers are there and are getting 4G signals.

I have been able to get WiMAX in Manassas on 234 near the Barnes and Noble. Also, just up the road in Centreville at 66 & 28. Good thing too because in both or those areas the 3G service is terrible. This is one main reason holding me back from upgrading to the Evo LTE or the Galaxy SIII since I will no longer have 4G.

WTF!!! Calling anyone in CT that can connect to 4G

So today I was trying to kill my battery after wiping all data to rebuild the battery stats and randomly turned on 4G to help kill the battery, but found that it connected to Clearwire, rather than Sprint. Now I will have to drive around and try and locate the broadcast point.
I live in Wolcott, CT and small town in New Haven County that boarders Hartford County, next to Waterbury. This was a fluke that I turned on 4G but was surprised to see that it connected.
My speeds are crap but have gotten it up to 6mbps down, nothing better than 3G upload speeds though ~0.33mbps up.
Here are some pictures to show.
I live in stamford, no luck with 4g here.

Sprint and Clearwire
I thought Sprint used Clearwire's WiMax network. (i.e. Sprint 4G is really a rebranded Clearwire WiMax) Not to mention Sprint owns the majority interest in Clearwire.
In Orange County California I came across a small pocket of 4G coverage. The weak signal only allowed about 1.65 Mbs down and 0.48 up which is far below the 4G spec but better than the usual 3G (altho also below the 3G spec).

Clearwire is Sprint's 4G provider. I have just never seen Clearwire listed as the ISP while in labeled 4G areas thats all...
What I find funny is Clearwire does not list any active broadcast location in CT, so I wonder why I am picking anything up...
A quick google finds that Clearwire is hiring in the Hartford, CT area. Everyone from customer support to RF Engineers. Perhaps you were close to their Hartford location.
last time I was in hartford (at the club lol) I got like 3-4 bars of 4G, it was AWESOME! That's the only place I've ever had 4g, since I live in the springfield area (I wouldn't give my city, that's just stupid. Even though I use my real name as my username and you could easily find me via google. lol)
anyways I was getting like 8mbps down and 2-3mbps up
That's pretty cool and all, but do you really want to post a map to your home on the internet?

Im in manchester, I tracked down the tower...right in back of the sprint store...got nearly 12mbit on mobile speed test...at my house 1.5 miles away I couldn't even get a signal. I think its in low-power test mode. The signal drops like a rock as you drive away...what's wimax range? I thought it was many many miles, 20 to 30 if you still had a good line of sight....?

I will track down the broadcast point. There are a couple large cell towers in my area that I will start with.
I found the broadcast point, it was were I thought it would be, top of route 69. Was getting almost 11mbps down and around 1.5mbps up. Kind of weird that there is 4G in this area now.
I had 1 bar in new haven not to long ago and got a little over 4 mbps down and about 1 mbps up.
4G Waterbury CT
Hello everyone. Found this post searching around and figured I would join this great forum.
I found out earlier today that 4g service was started up in Waterbury. I saw that the OP is in wolcott. Flip on ur 4G and give it a minute to set up.
With speedtest.net Im getting an average of 9.25 down and 1.75 up.
The internet flies on this phone at those speeds. Web pages load in a second or so compared to 10 secs on 3g.
Finally we get our 10 bucks out of the deal, lol.
4g is all over newhaven and hartford
It's also available in stamford, ct - there is a tower on the TOP of the new Trump building.
Just google "4g stamford" or "4g your town here"
download the sensorly app on your phone and you can see real time reports of it down to road level.
You have to zoom in on this link before it gets accurate
http://www.sensorly.com/Map/4G/USA/Sprint/wimax-sp
nobody tried sensorly?
That sensorly map seems to be inaccurate for me at my current location, it says I should have 4g coverage but I do not. Back at home in seattle though I do have 4g almost everywhere so I am used to having it.
Edit: I stand corrected by the fact that if you download the app and zoom in really close (better then you can on the website) it shows I do not have coverage.

I get 4G throughout E.Hartford and Manchester. None in Glastonbury though. I get 5-8 Down in E.Ha.
There are pockets of 4g in Rocky Hill & Newington. Conveniently, the Newington Sprint Store has 4g coverage ;-)

4g in Pasadena!!! whooo hooooo!!

I used speedtest and got 9.5mbps, daaayyymm! It probably will use more battery leaving it on 4g though. I wonder how good the 4g coverage is here in the southern CA area.
Oh my god I just moved from Pasadena to San Diego for college just a couple weeks ago. I asked the guys at the Sprint store when 4g was rolling out down here and they said not until Jan/Feb next year. fml
maybe not

Maybe they are just testing the system. It is back to 3g now=/. Hopefully it will stay up soon.
Ontario (Inland Empire), is picking up a weak 4G signal. I had it pick up a signal by my home (by 10 & 15 fwy), near Ontario Mills Mall, I was able to do a speedtest before the 4G signal was lost, it did 6Mbps download, 2Mbps upload, not bad for a weak signal with 1 bar... Seems like the IE is going to get 4G pretty soon!!!

Well of course! You don't think Sprint would pass up the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl do you? Don't worry, Verizon is rolling out LTE to cities with football teams. LA doesn't have one so that's another thing Detroit can be proud of.

It uses more battery, but the latest radio and kernel updates are better about battery usage.

4G Speeds

Someone asked about 4G speeds over the weekend. I could't find the thread, so I'll post them up here.
I live on the south side of Kansas City and at my house I pull between 3 and 5.5 Meg down pretty consistently.
At my dentist's office today I pulled between 2 and 3.5 on several attempts.
My upload speeds have been consistently between 850k and 1.5 Meg.
I'm looking forward to testing at my buddies house. We were able to obtain dl's over 8 last time I was there messing with his Evo.
Sent from my HTC Evo Shift 4G
when i'm in Boston i average 10mbps on my Evo, next time i go i'll have my Shift and will be able to compare the two
Very cool. I plan on doing a side by side with his Evo.

i got 7000kbps down and 1100kbps up today up here in minnesota the chicago speedtest server is the fastest i've come across. great ping times.
I got 9.5Mbps upload in Rochester. Very impressive.

Did a couple of test today. 5500 kbps at one point this morning. 9500ish around noon. 1000-1100 kbps up.
These were in LA.

I would say that's in NY. I'm pretty certain there's no 4G in Rochester, MN.
I'm heading up to the Twin Cities tomorrow, so I'll have to try out the 4G and see what kind of speeds I get
I hit 10.28 dl and .99 ul in Orange County today with full 4G bars.

+1. Sprinkle some of that 4G over Northern San Diego/La Jolla too. UCSD needs some 4G lovin (;
Guys, check out the Map Viewer app for an unofficial coverage map. Works great!
I found this great Android app '4G,CDMA,GSM & WiFi Map Viewer' on AppBrain: http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.sensorly.viewer
Shifted from my Evo using XDA app.
Western Chicago Suburbs here (Higgins corridor and north of Elgin on Fox River).
I drove around last weekend and monitored the 4G.
I'm mostly seeing 3-5 M upload and .5-1.5 M uploads (early Saturday morning)
Closer to noon I saw rates drop to 1-3 M uploads. I was driving in some pretty out of the way places and saw fairly good 4G coverage.
I was on I290 the other day and got one hit at 12 Mega (!). Just saw it once
and have not been able to re-create it.
My guess is the closer to Chicago you get, the higher rates you'll get.
Anybody have an idea if Sprint is reducing bandwidth when their network gets busy?
I've got the sensorly app, one of the better ones.
I'm hoping "Open Signal Maps" gets their act together because it is actually
trying to locate the towers on a central map.
Somehow I've managed to buy a house right in the middle of a group of towers
so that I only get 1 bar of 4G upstairs (3G only downstairs). Once I get on the road
I get good 4G coverage (2-4 bars)
4G speeds in shawnee ks suck but they are better than the 3 G ones lol
I usually see speeds between 6-8meg up in Cleveland. I use the Chicago server to test with.

4G in Central Illinois

...must be rolling out a bunch new cities if we have it...only 20,000 people...U of I is 50 miles away...we'll take it...so far 8.35 is my highest speed test...nice...

Fox Lake Area? they have had 4G for a while now (6mo+) .. its like they had 2 extra 4G towers and dropped them there cuz some exec lives in the area or something. makes no sense.

What definition of "Central Illinois" does Fox Lake fall into?
OP: Where about are you getting 4g? I'm in Kankakee County and seeing squat. I can drive up to Matteson to get 4g signal but that's about it. And on Sprints official map it just shows Chicago and St Louis (and surrounding areas).
EDIT: Checked clearwire.com and there are apparently solo towers in a lot of IL "towns." Peoria, Bloomington, Springfield, Charleston... I'll be damned.
...Mattoon,I'll...E.I.U. is in Charleston which is 10 miles...but I'm getting great signal in a concrete house laying in bed, so they must of added to the tower couple Blocks away...amazing though...not sure how we got it this fast...not a complaint though,lol...
no 4g in normal..... not even good 3g the big red V will be rolling lte here by the end of the year to bad i dont like the TB
im in the Elgin area and the map says im able to get 4g at my home address and i have never been able to. I only start to get 4g if i drive east of Randal Rd
