Hi.
I need some help. Every so often the messaging service gives me a fatal error, and I loose ALL of sms messages!!! This is not good.
Is this a know bug, with a fix incoming?
It really annoys me!!!
I was using Handcent and thought it might be because of it, so un-install it and today with Androids own messaging widget it happened again!!
I installed a program, called "sms backup and restore" but it won't work the restore, with over 300 sms... I can see my backup sms but it won't restore. It restore however with less than 100 sms.
Anyone knows a good sms backup app?
Thanks!!
No one??
Do u use a taskkiller ?
Yes... And also read in another Forum that using an Anti-Virus could cause this, so un-install it and let's see.
Thanks
Just to share HTC reply...
Dear Mr. Soares, Thank you for your reply, Kindly follow the steps below to solve the issue you're facing:
1) Please check if the issue persists by trying to use another SIM card preferably from a different operator.
2) Please make sure there is enough free memory on the “Phone memory”, to check the available memory kindly go to Home>Menu>SD card & Phone storage, make sure that there is at least 5.0 free MBs on the phone memory, if not kindly delete some applications to free memory.
3) Please turn off the handset and restart it again while pressing and holding the "Menu" button to open the handset in safe mode, and check if the issue persists or not.
4) If issue not solved kindly uninstall any 3rd party application that you have on the device and has any relevance to the contacts, to check the permissions of the applications kindly go to Home>Menu>Applications>Manage applications>Permissions, to remove 3rd party applications please open the device in “Safe Mode” and delete the applications.
5) If the issue is still not solved you can kindly try to perform a soft reset to the device by turning the device off, removing the battery and putting it back in again then turning on.
6) If the last step didn't solve the issue, kindly backup all the information on your handset either by synchronizing to a PC/laptop or by using a data backup software to back the information up on the memory card of the handset then perform a Hard Reset to your handset, kindly follow the steps below to perform the Hard Reset: Go To Home>Menu>Settings>Privacy>Factory data reset, Tap "Reset Phone" then tap "Erase everything" Kindly be informed that this process will erase all the information on the phone memory of your handset.
Please note that you can contact us via support line. For further details, please go to http://www.htc.com/europe/CA_Hotline.aspx, you'll find a toll free number that you can dial only from a landline. Best Regards, HTC Team http://www.htc.com

Whenever i try to enter in the contact list, it enters but it exists wright away. It doesn't recognize the contacts i copied form the SIM. Please help me or give me some sugestions.
The problem is, that you restored back up, which you forgot to mention here. For Contacts, Calendar and so on use: PIM Backup, available in Development and Hacking forum on xda-devs.
So the answer to your question is: don't restore the contacts the way you're doing it, make a hard reset and it will definatelly get better.
Dear Friends, I can see a lot of threads about HD backups, and I didn't want to start a new one, but my problem is different. Please help me, I'm unable to use any of the softwares mentioned because they need first to be installed in the mobile and I'm unable to do that!
The problem simply is that I installed a software cab and then tried to remove it. When I did so my mobile got freezed. I softrest it, after I enter the password, the mobile starts loading and gets freezed again. I made soft resting many times but no hope! So, I want to make hard rest, but before that I want to back up the data in my mobile.
Now as long as I don't put the password I can access my mobile data by ActiveSync. So I need a software that helps me to backup my data or at least my SMS (because other information can be backed up through ActiveSync) without me having me to install it in my mobile because as I said my mobile gets freezed after I put my password and I'm unable to confirm the installation in my mobile!
I do not how to completely back up your HD. But most of it you can do by going to your sync window and then clcik on the last icon which will give you a normal window with all you have on your HD. And from there you can copy everything to your PC
Sorry not to be able to help you any further
plenty of options here

Thanks for the help, but all these softwares need to be installed in the mobile and I'm unable to do that because the screen freezes as soon as it starts load after I put the password.
I need software through which I can backup my mobile from my labtop.
Spb Backup helps to reduce time in reinstalling programs especially after a rom upgrade flashing..I found it to be very useful for flashers who like to try the different type of roms in restoring the programs and other datas by selecting the "rom upgrade" mode and unticking "overwriting files"
However after restoring through Spb Backup on my Leo "HD2" phone it get muted automatically after making 1 call ie on my second call the other party will not be able to hear me whereas I am still able to hear the other party.
When I received calls irrespective of how many calls I received there is no such problem ie.the other party is able to hear me and the phone is performing normally.
It will only occur after restoring through spb backup when I make the 2nd outgoing call onwards but may be due to 3rd party program softwares .
Soft resets after restoring the same issue recur.
I have to overcome it when I make the 2nd and subsequent calls by pressing the mute icon twice. I do not have this problem after flashing and before restoring through spb backup.
I know the problem may not be due to my restoring through spb backup but caused through 3rd party softwares that I had installed. I tried to uninstal phone related programs eg. inesoft phone and iconsoft phone and thereafter soft reset without success.
The other options is not to restore through spb backup after flashing/hard reset which means that I have to reinstall individual programs which is too time consuming as I had many programs to reinstall. I understand that I may use Sashimi which I am not familiar with....however left with no other options there is always going to be a 1st time.
Save and except for this issue/problem I am happy using the spb backup in restoring by using "rom upgrade" mode without "over writing files" after each rom upgrades/flashing
I am just wondering as to whether there is any registry settings/modifications as an easy way out of this problem which can solve this issue(currently it is a nuisance for me to overcome it by always press the soft "mute button" twice in order for the opposite party ie receiver to hear me when I make the outgoing call).
Any assistance from anyone would be much appreciated with thanks..

i am using exclusively SPB Backup for a loooong time and i am very happy with it BUT i am using the full restore option only when i am restoring to the same version of ROM. after a flash i am using sometimes the backup before i am installing some new app and i want to be sure that if something is going wrong, i am not having to start everything from the beginning, if i flashed a new ROM i am using all the options except "System files". why?
the ROMs are very different, the cooked ones especially because each chef is building\cooking with his owns method and files. is hard for me to imagine that restoring the last ROM configuration over the new one is going to be a successful operation.
and maybe the strongest reason should be that (imho) there is no logic in flashing a new ROM and overwriting it with the files and registries from the old one.
Thanks Kukuriku
Tanks for your sharing and advice.
I am generally satisfied using the spb "rom upgrade" mode and unticking the "overwriting files" in my restore operation after upgrading or changing roms save and except the above issue which to be fair may be due to 3rd party softwares installed earlier and not due to spb backup.
I had been strongly advised to use :AutoInstall" or Sashimi to restore my programs and data using PimBackup which I did not use todate as I had not tried on the 1st and 2nd method.
Thanks anyway for your thoughts.
Moved thread to General Section.
Mark.
Sashimi is how i go from task 29 to fully customized ROM in 30-40 minutes... i only have about 100+ programs and tweaks so ymmv...
The time i took to learn Sashimi is priceless...
That said, I use SPB Backup Full Restore only when reinstalling the same ROM version.
What is XMLs files

Thanks Pongster.
Perhaps I should try using your suggested Sashimi Method or alternatively..
Miri had advised in rom upgrade to use Tom's Autoinstal by Create a folder on your SDCard with name Autoinstall and place all your CABs & XMLs there, after flashing, your CABs and XMLs will be autoinstalled.
Btw what is XMLs file used for?
Any tweaks to the phone registry that you can think of to overcome the "auto mute" problem I am having on my phone?
Where is the registry that controls the phone mute function?
Thanks

Autoinstall is good if all your cabs are hardcoded to install to the directory of your choice (Main Mem or Storage Card)... since I didn't have the time to individually reconfigure over 100+ cabs to install where I want them to, Sashimi was the best choice for me... takes some time to learn but once set up it requires littel else to get going
No ideas on the auto mute problems you're having, sorry...
What version of Miri are you on?

On Miri V7.0 build 23544..Thanks for your explanation
It is not spb but resco audio recorder
Initially I thought is the radio problem
Then I thought it is the software programs problem
Next I thought it is due to the custom rom.
Finally I found the problem is due to "activating the auto recording phone" in resco audio recorder V4.62.
Deactivate it and the MUTE problem is gone

Hi All,
first of all , hope to put this issue in the correct forum path....
my friend has a problem with the Pro2, as you can see by the attach , concerning the keyboard password lock.
His password doesn't works and also performing all the reset type , after the reboot the mobile starts with the keyboard locked (only emergency number is possible call).
he has reported me that at the first time, the mobile has gave to him an alphanumeric code to try to unlock the code but it doesn't solved the issue.
probably re-installing the software (6.5) the problem is solved but he doesn't want loss the date / appointments due the fact he has a doctor.
please help us.
thanks
Hi again,

Did he ever use Activesync or Google Sync? If he did, most of his information sould be saved that way. Also, you may want to try doing a hard reset but only after exausting all attempts to back your data up. Send a couple of PM to Senior memebers or Moderators, you might get some help that way!!
Good luck!!
thanks for your post....
principal problem is that is not possible connect the mobile to pc in order to use activesync or other program due the fact the mobile is locked....and not save data has been performed before....
Double chack that his SIM card is in correctly.
Same exact thing happened to me. My phone battery was at about 10% and when I tried the password that I had set... it didn't work. This made me frantic and very ticked off. I had a ROM on my SD card so i just reflashed from there. Since then I always install a different locking app then the stock one. I just can't trust it. So I think youre only option is to hard reset and hopefully your contacts are saved to the SIM so they won't be deleted.
Hi all, a happy 2015 may everyone be healthy and happy.
I have an urgent issue here. My S3 has contracted the infamous "stuck in safe mode with volume down button not working" issue.
I would like to attempt a factory reset via the phone menu, however, i have important whatsapp messages i need to keep. Currently i use the backup option on Kies 3. May i know if its in depth enough to cover that? After a reset would choosing "Restore" from the Kies 3 menu put every single thing back into my phone like how it is? Including my alarms?
Thank you kindly
Use the backup and restore options of whatsapp: menu/settings/chat settings/backup
Or you can send them to your email.

Hi mate ,
I guess you mean S4 , if you are in safe mode check this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2392632
also check this ( you must be rooted)
open file "factorymode" in efs/factoryApp directory, if it says "off", change to "on" it must say YES to turn it off, save the file
For whatsapp go settings / chat settings / backup conversations then just save the whole whatsapp folder in your internal SD , copy it back and when you install whatsapp again it will detect it and it will ask you if you want to restore it , make sure that both version of whatsapp are the same or at least that the new one you are installing is not older than the one you had
Thanks for the reply bro, mine is a S3 not S4. Do you have any idea if factory resetting will restore the safe mode with volume down button not working issue? And will kies3 backup restore be complete enough ?

Is this possible?
--> someone is posting in a S4 Q&A thread a total sensless title
Is this possible?
--> he also knows that his question doesn't belong there because he owns a S3
Is this possible?
--> I gave him an reply: Yes, a kies restore would be enough!
Is this possible?
--> he is born in 2005
