[Fixed] 3G Issues with stock software ? - EVO 4G General

Hey everyone. I'm on day two with my EVO!! But I've been having serious issues getting reliable data coverage. When the Sprint rep said, "Oh, I'm going to do a quick update," I insisted I could do it myself [if I wanted].
(I'm considering flashing a custom ROM). I have friends with Sprint who get great 3G data coverage in this same area....
Anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks!
EDIT: I never did a reboot on the phone after activation, that seems to have fixed it. Just so excited I finally have one, I guess.

This is good, that's the first step to fixing the issue. letting the public know that you know.
T-mobile actually released an internal memo announcing this issue to all reps.
If anyone can reproduce this issue, and wouldn't mind working with me.. Send me a PM please.
Now let's see how long it takes for a fix
Tom doesn't know what the problem is though otherwise they wouldn't be asking like this... I say it takes a week or so to figure out...
Actually I am a nexus one owner and I haven't had any problems, the phone is magnificent.. but if you are experiencing a problem, let me know I'm sure I can help fix it.
I got Nexus One with new T-mobile contract and have this problem. I tried to set the phone to "WCDMA Only" and I can't even use the phone as it gets no signal. I am using Any Cut app for this.
I am new to Tmobile so don't know how good their service is INDOORS. But, I am in my office in Downtown Washington DC where I never had issues with AT&T 3G. Even the iPhone is able to get 3G here. Same problem in my house basement where I never had issues with AT&T. On T-mobile 3G map my area is in the middle of thick RED for 3G. So, I am not even close to the borders. I wish I had another Tmobile 3G phone to do some tests.
If no firmware update is announced with a fix I need to return my phone as they only have 14-day return policy and I am not sure if the 14-days starts from the date of purchase or date of delivery.
Other than 3G issue and TMobile service this phone Rocks.

My 3g LITERALLY doesn't work

I was trying to do a speedtest, and it didn't budge at all. This has been happening for quite some time and I actually had a chance to try 3g since it wasn't switching at all. WELL it didn't work and there was almost a halt of data until 3.5 g kicked in.
Any ideas? And while we are on the topic, for some reason when i tried flashing the radio update image from modaco via RA, it gave me the android out of the box every time.
Bump. I'm on T-Mobile 3g.
where do you live?
if it didnt budge, do you even have an internet plan? like can you browse the web and stuff?
follow the wiki's... theres not much more to be said about flashing things... they are as straight forward as it gets... if you cannot figure them out you really should not be messing with your phone...
I am so pissed with this phone and Google's support,my 3G is worse than ever, right now I have a G1 and this **** called Nexus One on the table, the Nexus' 3G signal is sooooo bad,it does fluctuate so much and so often....if I turn it upside down the 3g signal becomes more stable.
I called Google customer service and they tell me to dial *#*#4636#*#* and go through some of the settings,it did not do any better, they guy ended up apologizing and saying....well you have 14 days to test the device otherwise you can return it....what an advice from Mr Google.
And this is the company that is going to release this piece of art for other cell companies and networks, hope they do a better job.I can see a bunch of these phones for sale all over....unless they do something.I have had the phone for 24hrs with the new OTA update.
yes. It works fine on EDGE and 3.5 G (H) I really have no idea how to fix it

[Q] 3G Problems

Is anyone else experiencing problems with 3G staying connected today in the Philadelphia / South Jersey area?
4G is working and stays connected but my 3G data connection keeps dropping. The 3G icon will disappear from the bar when the connection drops. I have a good signal, or so it seems, and i'm in an area where I typically never have a problem. I am running the latest stock OTA firmware without root on 0003 hardware. I have tried rebooting and updating my profile / PRL.
Any suggestions or feedback would be appreciated...

Hmm... people think that sprint "may" be planning some kind of network change due to slow speeds everywhere. Could be whats happening there?

new york as well, one thing that seems to fix some issues (not all of em) is going into the keypad, dial ##3282# press Edit Mode enter your msl then go into data profile, press the menu key and press reset, that seems to help a little...
if u need ur msl code download msl reader from the market (free app)
Thanks for the feedback... For now at least my connection is solid. Today was the first time I've ever experienced this issue.
Sprints network is suckin all over the place for the past month or 2. Youll going to be waiting a very long tome.to use anything that involves data usuage. Your lucky if you get to watch a full you tube vid without getting an error message. Sometimes when i send a pic message it just stays sending for hours. I called and complained...they gave me a $30 credit for bad servide. I also told them even though they issued me a credit and if the issue is not resolved in 2wks i will be cancelling my contract with them and i better not get a cancleation fee for doing it cause it is not my fault. Rep ....actually i think it was a supervisor that said it is a coverage issue im having and blamed it on out towers, wich is bs cause ive called.several times and complained. So either A. they take to long to fix.issues or B. It happens way to often and i cant use my phone for.the reasons i bought it for. I actually dropped the call cause of poor service while on the phone with another rep.
I gave sprint a chance...now its back to verizon. Prices are great on sprint but what good is it if i never have service.

Thats pretty much how im starting to feel at this point. I just keep thinking if im going to switch I need to go ahead and do it while they still have the unlimited data. Trying to see when the Thunderbolt is going to drop.. I see a lot of people saying Feb some time.
Im lucky that I live in KC where the sprint campus is. Our service is always running great. Except the building I work in sucks for signal. Walk outside and I go from no bars to full bars.
The data network has been complete **** in Idaho for a month! Its driving me nuts!

Anyone feel like reporting this issue to.engadget? Feels.like.maybe that is the only way we will get some real answers on wtf is going on.
I'm northwest of Philly, Gwynedd to be more precise. I just just got .26 Mbps down and .48 Mbps up. I think that is pretty sucky and I have to tether my iPad all day to that speed.
Im in philly (west) & Im ok. 4g is a lil slower than i originally experienced, 3g is just ok. Either way it has been a slight "slow down" since i first got my phone. I kinda have just been tolerating it....
I agree with philly. When I first got my evo I was amazed at the speed of everything. Especially 4g. When ur 4g speed tests start to match your t-mobile buddies 3g speed test there is a problem. It seems to have dropped quality over the last month here in Austin tx as well. Hopefully Feb 7th is good news. I just upgraded two of my lines with two year sa.

Might be stupid to say but
Have you tried to update your PRL?
Are you rooted? What rom are you on? Have you called sprint and have them refresh your phone?
Everything above is a good question. Did you mess with the PRLs?
Same thing here. The good news is that I am getting like 2mbps instead of the 70kbps from Sprint. My phone has been going crazy....shows fulls bars...but with triangle (roaming) icon above it. When I emailed c/s they said nothing wrong with towers....but when I called they said there were problems all over with the 3g service....and then the nightly news actually had a feature on why Sprint's service for phone calls were failing. They first blamed it on the electric company saying they weren't supplying enough power to their towers....then said it was because too many people were using smart phones and overloading there bandwidth...
Another crazy thing...I went to use QIK....and it loads up with T-Mobile...not even the same category....my phone it using a rooted stock version with all the latest updates....
Also...checked my online account...it does show a little roaming but not as much as it should...so I guess since my speed have improved 100 times...I won't complain....I know Sprint and Verizon in my area both lease space on the same tower....so not sure why Sprint's speed is so much slower than when roaming on Verizon....if I go to a 4g area....I get about 10mbps....

[Q] Recent Radio Problems

Is anyone having any major radio problems recently? I heard a few days ago something happened with Sprints network, but haven't verified it.
I'm currently running CM7-n94 and the past few days my 3g speeds using speed test are in the double digits! O_O I mean to say like 87b/s. It's worthless for me to even use the browser now if I'm not using wifi.
I'm flashing back to Froyo STOCK right now, (leaving it S-OFF) and calling sprint to complain.
Two Questions:
1.) Anyone else recently having really piss poor (more than usual) data speeds with 3G?
2.) Can I update to the OTA the from Froyo stock with S-OFF and still be rooted?

1. There are some cities that are subject to some slow speeds. Where are you located?
2. As long as your radio is s-off you're good to go.
About 5 miles from Center City Philadelphia.

Haven't ever read any complaints from anyone in Pennsylvania.
Try updating your prl and data profile.
Maybe call Sprint as well.
You could also completely unroot back to 3.70 and then reroot and see if it might help.
Also, updating your radios to the latest.
There's a thread in the development section.
I'm mobile or I'd give you a link.
Oh, ya, been there and done all that. This is even my 3rd EVO and I've never been able to break the 250-300k/bs limit on any of them, but this 87 is just getting ridiculous.
So sprint is sending me an Airave, but the guy said it's most likely not going to fix my problem. My next solution is to argue my way out of the contract and go with a more reliable carrier... Sadly there are no other phones out I want right now.

"reliable carrier" changes per the area you live.
If you make a note of the issue and it isn't fixed within a reasonable amount of time they will waive your ETF as they are technically violating the contract.
Akron, Ohio here and my data speeds have been crap all day. Phone keeps pulsing between 0 and 2 bars, but never seems to lock on to the tower reliably.

Could just be a temporary area issue.
Personally, my data speeds absolutely SUCKED on the 05.02 radio. Ive since flashed back to 04.08 and all is well.
It's been a while, but one evening a 6 pack of beer and I sat down and flashed every single radio, and did 3 speed tests on each radio combo. Took about 2 hours all done and said, but there never was a huge difference.
The sprint rep said my location should have full coverage (I live in NJ, right outside of Philadelphia. Every carrier has full coverage here). I asked him what the average 3G speeds were, and he said I should be getting anywhere between 600kb/s and 1.2Mb/s.
I've never seen either of those numbers except when I use 4G. Keep in mind that I've used this phone everywhere from Utah, Colorado, NC, VA, DC, NYC, Philly, Trenton, etc and it's all the same. I, as the Spring rep, would like to blame the hardware, but this is the 3rd Evo I've had in a year.
My 4G speeds are usually about 2.5Mb/s. Friend of mine has the Atrix and he's getting 2.5Mb/s on 3G as AT&T hasn't rolled their 4G network out yet. I also have a friend with a Thunderbolt, and he's getting ~22Mb/s average. (Yes, that's Twenty Two)
So, again, as far as I'm concerned, the Evo is the best phone on the market still, however the service is a deal breaker for me.
I'm going to try this Airave thing out, but if it doesn't work I'm going to be shopping/waiting for the next LTE phone assuming Verizon gets a phone that's worth half a crap.
In addition...
This won't help at all but I need to add that I've switched from T-mobile to Sprint, and the 3G speed of T-mobile was incredibly fast in NYC. Sprint was bareable, but since the update it's been speeds of 0.19Mbs d/l and around 0.15Mbs up. It sucks because at my job I'm indoors with no 4G around so I'm confined to 3G. But at school when I have 4G full blast it's almost close to fiber optic speed.
