Can HTC put out an update for the Battery Life? - EVO 4G General

Just curious if enough people complain, can anything be done to improve it?
I know there are tweaks but i prefer one from htc directly.

If anything, the updates for battery life will come from Froyo.
What HTC DOES need to fix though, is the touch sensor lag on the phone. It's impossible to play ping pong on my Evo.

gotcha...yeah i was playing with a friends iphone, and before today, i didn't notice the lag on the screen until i web browsed with the iphone.

Take action into your own hands and fix it yourself. Removing most of the bloatware and social networking crap increases battery life substantially.
Personally i don't care if I miss my buddies face book status update or if Angie replied to my comment about her tits on twitter. Some can't live without that though.

Damn, even i wanna know about angie's tits if she posted it on facebook. LOL jp.

I have to say that I find the battery life fairly decent...and I am running most of the widgets and have gmail set to push... I took it off of the charger this morning ~7:30, and it died at 9:30 this evening. Thats with about 30 minutes of Pandora streaming over 3G, downloading several apps, watching a couple of YouTube videos, a phone call, some texting...basically normal use. I think that 14 hours of battery life on a phone like this with that type of use is pretty good... Its not a circa 2001 flip phone with a monochrome lcd display that can last for a week or more...but it is heck of a lot more device. just MHO

God I remember those good old days, charging your phone once every two weeks. Car chargers were unheard of.

yep! nice from one perspective, not so much from another! Oh yeah, and I just got the phone on Monday, so that was really only the 2nd full charge cycle. Charging it with the phone off all night tonight, we'll see how long it lasts in the coming days/weeks...I bet it does better! Anyway, I feel pretty comfortable that as long as I anticipate how long I need to go between charges, I can tailor my usage to that...so if i need it to last 20 hours, I will not use Pandora, watch YouTube, or download stuff... Not that hard!

Battery life is great here? Used it fairly heavily today:

What are you doing to get Android System battery usage down so low? I turned off the Sense home screen and installed ADW. That helped a little. And I'm only using like 4 widgets and some shortcuts. It's still at like 40-50%.

The longer you use the phone the lower Android system goes...not doing anything special everything pretty much stock as the phone came. One thing that does cause huge battery drain that I ran into was setting up the Flikr account but removing it put the battery use back to normal.

i get the exact same battery life with my evo as i did with my hero, using the same battery though. wonder if that makes a difference...

Since google introduced voice calling in Gmail, I haven't been using my phone too much xcept for reading engadget/gizmodo/lifehacker/bgr blogs and browsing xda in bed for an hour or two just before going to sleep. Occasionally I would watch one anime episode (or more, depending on my mood) using VLC Stream & Convert as well. This is what I'm getting:

... and here's the setup (1500mAh OEM, no battery conditioning + no SetCPU/Tasker/etc whatsoever):
Now I can finally say that HTC Evo is officially better than my old Touch Pro in every way possible. Previously TP would last only ~24hrs, even if wasn't using it at all. Evo on the other hand will last for days when its "sleeping". Android's power management at its best
PS: under constant use the battery life is a completely different story. Max LCD brightness w/out timeout + stream DI.fm w/ XiiaLive wasted the battery in just 3:55 . So the conclusion we can draw here is, if you want long battery life - don't use the phone

61 hours, well that's not bad, i have that beat with over 72 hours, lol, and your right to get it to last that long you have to pretty much use it alot less then normal.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780583
i went 3 days 12 hours and 46 minutes on a single charge, that is with using the stock battery and a regular wall charger, yes i'm rooted and i used setcpu to set my frequency to 614 when screen on, and 245 when screen off, at night when i go to sleep i put the phone into airplane mode, and overall usage was cut back to light to moderate usage, i was trying to see how long i could actually go on the stock battery, and i must admit i'm very impressed.

did you use OEM battery or an aftermarket/extended one? mine was the 1500mAh OEM that came with the phone. also, i didnt use airplance mode so maybe that's why i could reach 3-day battery life...

i never even thought about that, will have to check it next time.
i just wanna know where you got those sweet power and volume widget bars.
SwitchPro Widget for the top two widget strips, and AudioManager Pro the the 3rd audio settings strip.

What is this wizardry? Insanely good battery life.

The image speaks for itself, but I'll add some info. I have a SetCPU profile for screen off that sets it to 245 min and max, and I haven't been using the phone hardly at all the past two days. Wifi has been on the entire time.
Normally, after 8 hours of light use, my phone would be dead with Android System taking up about 40% of the battery, and the three radio entries taking up about 16% each.
I've been using CyanogenMod 6.1.1 since the day it came out, with it's built-in kernel, not Pershoot's. I've done nothing else custom. The only thing that I can correlate with this change in battery life is a new version of SetCPU came out a couple days ago.
Or maybe it's just an unrelated fluke, and tomorrow whatever battery-eating bug exists in the system will rear its ugly head again. I dunno. All I know is I've never seen battery life like this on my G2.
101% yaaaaay I can add

Screen not even registering as using any?
most of my usage is screen for 60%+ (maybe 2 hrs on)
and 15~18 hours tops!
You still geting great battery life I have the same setup and battery life is average not as good as 6.1
I do not mean to highjack your thread but I have a question. For the cell standby power consumption, what is registered as the amount of time with no signal? I am in a full HSPA+ area and it still tells me that 50% of the time my phone has no signal, how is that possible? Thank you for your responses.
I managed 56 or 59 hours once and the display wasn't on the list either. I mentioned this in another thread but it was generally ridiculed and dismissed
i lose about 50% of battery with hspa on during a 8 hour shift. Of course random facebook and texting is going on.
I noticed an improved battery life with the unofficial Gingerbread builds. Did Google finally get it right?

That has been my experience, though I'm still stuck using the stock HTC sense since I updated to 1.72 before rooting.
Whenever I check battery use, the Display is ALWAYS the highest consumer, by a large margin. I usually see 60-70% Display, and the cell standby, etc are only a few percent. Now I'm really upset I can't root it for the forseeable future.
Did you just not ever touch the phone at all? I mean, the display isn't even listed!!?!?
As I said, I was barely using the phone at all.
Right now I'm at 95% after 10 hours of non-use. I don't remember this ever being possible in the past.
Even when I actively use the phone (at least in the past) Display would never be very high. Android System was always #1 with the radios beneath that, and Display somewhere around 6%, as I recall.
In the time it took me to write this post mostly in Swype, I lost 2% so my crazy battery life seems limited to the screen being off (with the corresponding very low cpu speed). Still, it's never been this good before.
lol the title is hilarious just had to say

I bet the lcd being not used plus wifi instead of 3G is the reason. Plus, I think it's witchery not wizardry, lol! Maybe both... whatever they are both hilarious! Ah, the days of yore!

Is my phone defective (battery)

Bought it almost a week ago and the main reason for switching from iPhone was the battery life was supposed to be jaw dropping.
I'm very disappointed. I have almost no non stock apps (just social media ones) and I'm not impressed. These results are actually some of the better ones. Usually I only get 2.5 hours of screen time.

Should I return it? I mean I also run with No location, no bluetooth, and brightness as low as it can go.

If you have given up on the S5 period, sure. If you mean that you think your particular phone is defective, then no. There is no evidence whatever that your phone is defective. The S5 battery life is in fact very good. But like all things it varies because everyone uses their phones differently..
Your figures of 14 hours battery life (2.5 - 3.5 hours screen on) are on the low side for a S5, but hardly abysmal. If you do a bit of tweaking and update some apps or your firmware, I have no doubt that you could almost double that. Battery life is variable, depending on what apps you have installed and how you use your phone. Some apps like Skype or Tunein are notorious battery hogs. As is leaving wifi on when the wifi signal is weak or non existent.
Your post gives an impression of you having unrealistic expectations. Nevertheless, if you are still happy, then return it and get a different phone model. But there is nothing wrong with your handset and trying to exchange it for another S5 won't change anything. It just needs a bit of tweaking. If you play with the settings a bit you should be able to get ~ 20 hours, including 5 - 8 hours of screen time, rather than your current 14 /3. Use that as a benchmark for how you want to proceed.
If you want a better idea if you apps are the issue, then temporarily uninstall all of your third party apps. Then see what difference it makes running only stock apps for one day.

I'm unsure what you want me to tweak.
I have locations turned off, bluetooth turned off, and brightness as low as it can go
In terms of apps installed I only have the following non verizon stock:
Reddit sync
facebook
twitter
instagram
snapchat
Given whats installed and what is already disabled I think this battery life is pretty bad. My gf gets 4+ hours of screen with more apps installed and still 40%+ battery on her S5

It's not rocket science. You're on the lower normal end of battery life, about what one would expect for a heavy user or a phone that has hasn't had much optimization done. If you do a simple search for threads on how to optimize battery life and read for a few minutes, you'd have all of the tools you need to improve your battery life 50 - 100%.
If you're somehow still unhappy, that's on you. We've tried to make constructive suggestions but you seem to expect spoon feeding or magic. The S5 with minimal tweaks has exceptional battery life. If you want to improve your battery life, make the effort to do a bit of reading in existing threads. Or go ahead and exchange your S5 for some other model. And you can gripe about the battery life for that one too.

It's clear there isn't an easy fix otherwise you would just say it.
I never even wanted a different model I was questioning whether my particular s5 is faulty. As my gf keeps location and WiFi on all day with tons of apps and gets almost 2x battery life. She doesn't read anything about tweaks so Im not sure why you keep saying that. In fact I doubt she has ever gone into the battery settings menu to even know what kind of time she is getting.

Battery life woahs. What Rom/Kernal should I jump to

My battery life is crap. I replaced the original 2 year old battery a few weeks ago, and still no improvements. I am using SIMPLEAOSP right now, with the default kernel it comes with.
I have to get something different. I am getting like 12 hours of mild usage before I need to find a wall. That is unacceptable. I have done all of the battery tweaks I can do within 4.4.4 and still keep most of my daily functionality (disabling NFC, low accuracy GPS, etc).
What would you guys recommend I try. I am tempted to just hold out until L is released, but I cannot keep living like this (firstworldproblems). I was just going to buy a N6, but it is WAY too big and WAY too expensive.

Wakelock detector + Greenify can find and put to sleep what's keeping your phone awake.
Wipe your phone and return to stock. Flash your ROM and don't use google now. But honestly you probably just need to put your phone down.

I do use google now, but I actually like it. But that hasn't changed, and my battery life has.
I am hoping that wakelock + greenify can figure it out, because after replacing the battery I have had ZERO improvement. Which leads me to think it is ROM/app related.
Today I flashed a new ROM (purity) and threw franco's kernel on. The testing will resume.
One a more interesting note, today during my battery life searches I ran upon a thread about T-mobile using significantly less battery during the day, compared to AT&T. http://blog.laptopmag.com/tmobile-phones-longer-battery-life
I did recently go from the $30 T-mobile plan the a $45 straight talk plan using AT&T. I wonder if that is making an impact as well.
So yea...I am working on it. WOAH!
Kind of the same problem here, received new battery today but my Torx is too big! Have to get one that fits.. but i suspect that the main problem is the battery drain in standby/deepsleep. I can get to 90-120minutes of DOT, that was never much better, but what the phone is doing while i don't use it is the problem. I tried BBS, WLD, CPU Spy and Greenify.. but i suspect that some google background service is the bad boy.

LOL Oh. Yeah your right. Didn't realize that. I have wireless chargers everywhere "even made one that was non-slip for my truck" must have put it on one sometime and forgot. Sorry bout that guys. Btw That was an old screenshot I just had in my gallery from not long after I got the phone.

I have the moto Maxx, Mexican firmware. I´m from Argentina.
Could you tell me guys the version and the baseband of yours?
Because it seems that the latin america version the battery is barely poor.
Thanks!
Damn... Going beast mode with this battery. Would've gone longer, but gotta use it more tomorrow when I'm out. Ya, I know I only have 4hrs of SOT. Haven't been using much
I assume anyone getting more than 48 hours of battery life is turning off data, or at least disabling updates/background data. Just out of curiosity, do you always keep that turned off, or do you just do that when you're seeing how much you can squeeze out of the battery? In my mind, the big reason to get a device with a big battery is so you don't have to baby the battery like that.

I disable data and auto sync. I've done this for every phone I've ever owned. Not to preserve battery life, but I have no need to have it on 24/7. I turn it on when I need it.
