3G Connection Always On - EVO 4G General

I noticed that my people app is constantly using the 3G connection that is killing my battery life. I killed it using the System Panel app and the 3G indicator immediately turned off. I wonder if Facebook for HTC Sense has a problem? Anyone else see this problem or anyone have a solution?

Battery drain even during standby with WIFI or 3G on

I have encountered a problem (or not!) that the battery seems to drain real fast (8-10% per hour) when the phone is in standby mode with WIFI on and the only app running in the background is Ebuddy. I don't know if this is a problem or not because on my old Blackberry Bold, even if you let a chatting app such as Jivetalk running in the background with WIFI or 3G on, the batterry doesn't drain that much, in fact it uses just a bit more battery than just standby. My phone is not rooted, and if I continuously use the phone for chatting, surfing and listening for the music, the battery seems to be find though, I get around 6 hours until the battery is dead. Any help would be awesome, thank you very much for your help
Try switching off your GPS. I did and now my battery is sweet. I only switch on the GPS when I need it, i.e. maps, weather, you get the message...
What widgets do you have on your home screen? I've had problems before with some of the active widgets preventing the phone from sleeping.. I generally get 2-3 % per hour when in standby.
Now at 88% after 6 hours..
I have wifi on 3g on and gps on and bluetooth on.. So they're all sleeping just fine.

Actually i dont have many widgets running in the background, I only use 3 home screens, the widgets I have are Beautiful Widgets, Calendar, Battery Life and I have Juice Defender running in the background full time. The problem is, standby mode without either WIFI and 3G is OK but with any of them, the battery starts draining real quick
you should be able to set wifi to sleep when phone display is inactive. 3g will always use more juice than 2g but how much more seems to depend on your location and 3g availability/strength. I get about 1 day use with 3g turned on and 2 and a half days with only 2g enabled.
It would be really nice if the phone could switch back to 2g when sleeping but its not possible to do because you cant control the 2g/3g directly from apps. The best that apps can do is display the standard android settings page.
Ahah... Juice defender... I've had problems with that preventing my phone from sleeping.. Suggest you do what I did and de install it.. My phone lasts a lot longer without it..
Also, if that still doesn't work try removing beautiful widgets, I've not heard of problems with that one but some of the weather widgets also prevent the phone from sleeping.

Thank you very much guys, I will try to uninstall Juice Defender to see how it goes. I did mention 1 thing in case you forget, I had Ebuddy running in the background, facebook and twitter update every 1 hour or so, but even that.the battery still seems to drain too fast, even when nothing using connect to the internet
At Phantasm4489: Actually at my house there is only 2G EDGE coverage

Hi - Couple of things.. .. 1. Did you disable JD before you uninstalled it - read somewhere that this is the best way.. and 2. Have you restarted the phone to clear JD from Memory?
Which version of the firmare are you on? The older ones 014 and 016 weren't as good at sleeping..
Task Killers also tend to cause problems (@GT Blackice) They will stop things that need to be in memory and so the phone will restart them.. I've found it better without.. Phone runs smoother and battery lasts longer. (Although one or two others believe that they help; I think that this is because they're killing dodgy apps which aren't sleeping properly when not active.)..
Yes i disabled JD before uninstall it and did a clean reset even with taking out the battery. I'm on firmware 023, I think its the latest one for my phone. It's so bad if the battery cannot last any longer with WIFI on, anyways thank you a lot though

Disable APN(3g and 2g, there is a widget for this) while you're not using it and battery last significantly longer. If you need internet for E-mail push or some other apps(timescape) then use 2g(as was reccomended above) and be happy if it lasts for 2 days. I've also discovered that using wifi instead of APN uses less power.
That's really odd. I'm on 023 too and mine is fine.. The only other thing I can think of.. Possibly... I've stopped using timescape...

How can u disable Moxier Mail if you dont use startuqap manager. Cuz this app was the real drainer. And how do you disable Timescape? Did you use any WIFI at all during the last 16 hours? I even uninstalled the weather widget and the prob stayed there, nothing changed. Arghhhhh...
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I thought moxier was a problem too, but in the end turns out not to be.. As long as you've not configured it, it just sits in the background not doing anything. Haven't disabled timescape.. Just removed the widget and set the update frequency to never, then stopped using it.
Wifi has been on and active quite a lot. Used xda and internet a fair bit on it yesterday.

Did you try the wifi sleep method as mentioned earlier by someone? Perhaps need a new launcher such as adw launcher? I mean when I use my wifi I lose bout 12% or so per hr, annoys me, tried everything I could think of!

If you have a rogue app that is causing the phone to not sleep properly would it not show up under the battery status in settings?
If you see Cell standby, Phone Idle and Display at the top of your list in the battery usage and that accounts for around 90% or more then your phone is probably working as expected. If the display percentage is too high you can probably reduce the display brightness to save battery other than that the only thing you can do to affect the battery life is to turn reduce refresh times for apps which update automatically, turn off APN or switch back to 2g.
Thanks everyone for your advices. Anyways, the prob doesnt seem to fixed though, maybe its because of my phone.
@im_iceman: I did not configure Moxier mail but its still running in the background and drain a lot of my battery, the I tried Startup Auditor and it fixed that prob well, i dunno why

Hi.. How do you know that moxier was draining the battery?
I also stopped using start up managers too cos they were also draining battery..

there is always a chance your battery is damaged. Get a battery graphing application and see how it drains over time. One of my friends had a phone with a bad battery - one of the cells was clearly damaged and unable to retain charge properly and it was easily visible when watching the battery drain over time

JuiceDefender and 3G

Anyone else using Juice Defender? I really liked the app on my hero, but it seems like it takes about 45 seconds or so after I unlock the phone for 3G data to resume. Is anyone else noticing this? It was fine on my Hero- possibly because it was so slow it took me longer than 45 seconds to open a program that used data.
yep, it appears that I have the same problem, although I normally don't use juicedefender to turn off 3g, just wifi.
I have the same exact issue and it caused me to cease using it. It did work, I noticed a pretty big increase in battery time. However the aggravation of waiting for data to turn back on was not worth it.
With my life style I always have a USB port or a car charger near me. Its the kind of application I will only enable when I know I will be out and about a lot.
I'm using juice and I'm getting 2x more battery life coz the 3g drains the battery even if you not using the phone

I tried it but for some reason 4g wouldn't work and 3g took forever to enable. I uninstalled it. I'll try it again when the issues get resolved.

4G doesn't work, but it only takes around 5 seconds to data to turn on for me when I turn on my screen.
It does seem a bit slow, but i mainly use juice defender for the 3g widget. Theres no other way to disable mobile networks on this phone and it fustrates me
Im getting more than a days worth of energy by cutting he mobile internet when not using it.. but id still be happier if juice defender worked faster so i wouldnt have to do it manually
Which part is it slow turning on? For me 3g turns on and off at very decent speeds. No more than about 5 seconds do I have to wait. (For auto data and manual data toggling)
Takes only about 5 to 10 second too turn back on 3g for me.

same here.
i'm loving it. i'm getting, on average, 18 hrs per charge. i was getting 9 hrs before. cant wait for more updates
I love the program, but it is not allowing my e-mail to be checked using the built-in e-mail app. No email notifications is a killer for me, so I actually just uninstalled JD. Even tried the newer beta version with the "sync" option.

[Q]3g radio reset

So my epic seems to like to reset its 3g radio randomly. It does it more often when on a charger, but also does it when on battery. Its the same thing that happens when you update PRL, you get the little double beep and the radio is back on again. Anyone have any idea if this could be a software thing, or is it time to go exchange at the sprint store?
Isn't this the problem that's addressed by the "Airplane Mode" fix? (fyi -- toggle AM off and then back on after boot and the problem you describe won't happen)
Ahhhh. I thought that was just about tws. I haven't had an issue with tws so haven't been bothering with it. I'll give it a shot.

I've noticed th same thing it seems to happen most often when I'm on the move, driving, walking, etc. I notice it most because it interupts audio. I don't want to shutdown my phone right now but ill try this later

This happened to me as well. Around the clock, I'd get a double beep as the 3G turned off and flicked back on. It started after I rooted and installed Wifi Tether. I also noticed that the Wifi was constantly scanning for networks, which was causing some seriously terrible battery usage.
I reset the phone to factory stock and the problem went away. Rooted again, still good, installed Juice Defender and Juice Plotter, and everything has been great since.
When I get a chance or have the need, I'll reinstall the Wifi Tether (the "pre-10" build was the one that worked for me a couple of weeks ago) and see if that was what was causing it. I think that some setting on Wifi Tether was constantly turning the 3G off and looking for a WiFi network to plug into, then reinitializing the 3G data connection.
Anyhow, since the wipe and re-installation of droid apps that I know work well with my phone, the radio beeps have been completely absent and battery life is now 36-48hrs per charge, depending on how much I use. Juice Plotter has my battery going down 10% over 8 hours of standby-only use, meaning I could get as much as 80+hrs of standby time, which makes me really happy.
So: I'd suggest backing up your contacts and data, doing the factory reinstall, then slowly reinstalling a few apps at a time and seeing if it's one of them that's messing with the radio. You might also want to grab a battery charting app and see if one of your apps saps your battery super quick, because I do believe it's the on/off/on/off toggling that chugs through the battery.

GPRS/EDGE Frequent disconnects

Guys, I'm experiencing constant disconnects while the phone goes to sleep/stand by. The connection returns as soon as I wake it up and is reliable while its awake.
Is there a known fix for this? Its really annoying and it has bothered me for a while now.
I'm using an Imagio with the titanium energy rom.

No network area cell standby battery drain

I'm wondering if someone might know how to fix my battery drain issue. I'm running a desire HD with unofficial CM JB. My problem is that I live in an area with no cell signal and use my phone on WiFi at home. The phone seems to turn up the power to the cell radio and constantly search for a signal, causing 60% or more battery usage. If I switch to airplane mode every time I get home from work and then turn on WiFi the issue goes away and battery life is amazing, but this is a pain and I often forget to turn the cell radio back on... I did not have this problem with ICS ROMs. They seemed fine chilling with no network until I got to town.
Any ideas?
