I'm getting a poor WiFi signal when trying to connect to a WiFi or my laptop connecting to my phone using hotspot. My wife n1 has a strong WiFi connection. Is anyone having this issue and is there a fix for it?
-------------------------------------
Yeah my old TP would get a solid wifi signal in my living room and in the same spot the EVO keeps dropping the wifi signal :-\ not a deal breaker still an amazing phone but a bit annoying

I don't have the hotspot app enabled, but my wifi signal sucks too.
The radio update supposedly improves the Wi-Fi signal, not sure if you have it applied or not.
I haven't heard of a radio update. link?
Thank you!
I had the same problem until I moved my DSL router into the area where I do most of my work. It was in a back bedroom where I had it originally installed ages ago. Laptops were fine with it there..
I put in a central area and now I'm getting 5Mbs down and 800kbs up.

Was it the OTA update that was release on the day of the launch or is this a new update?

Ok so I have been searching the forums for a few days now and have yet to find the answer to my question. So please don't bash me for not using the search function cuz I did. There is a good chance that my question has already been answered and if it has please direct me to the proper thread. Otherwise my issue is that my epic is rooted as of a few days ago cuz I moved into an apartment and I don't have any Internet yet. Not for a few weeks, but I am using the android wifi tether app. That's working good for me except I am not getting any 4g speed through it. If I'm lucky i will get maybe 1 to 1.5 Mbps but most of the time less than 1 mbps. Does anyone know if the wifi App supports wimax speeds or not. Yes I have 4g coverage in my area. Where I am sitting right now on my phone speed test results are above 3.5 to 4 mbps. But while using my iPad (which I am using to write this) via wifi tether app speed tests are dreadfully low. Same with all other devices I have tried connecting like my xbox or laptop. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Is that the results withe 4g on? 3-4mbs? I get that with 3g untethered 4g untethered is around 8mbs. Have you tried testing it in another area? You might just be in a 4g deadspot. With wifi tether I get 3-4mbs on 4g. I can't really tell you where to go for info but those numbers sound more like 3g to me.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Yes that is with 4g on. Where my phone is this very second. I have 2 bars of 4g signal. And it's working fine for me. Sitting side by side with 4g activated and wifi tethering on. My phone will get 4mbps and iPad will get 1.5mbps. From the same server on speediest.net. And I run the tests at separate times so they don't conflict for bandwidth.
Update: just ran test again.
iPad - 350ms ping 1.63mbps download .86mbps upload
Phone - 122ms ping 3.96mbps download 1.2mbps upload
This is a known issue..it happens in android-wifi-tether and mobile-ap as well..its definitely using the 4g connection and wifi should be capable of transmitting more..I mean even the lowest is capable of 11mbps..but N should be a lot higher.
As far as I know there is no solution yet...the EVO had the same issue at one point but it was fixed I hear..
Maybe it has something to do with the settings on your phone. I noticed with mine that my speed would just climb and climb then suddenly just drop at around 8. It wouldn't be a slow climb either it's like it's actually being throttled somehow. Try clearing the cache or something, but for some reason those number just don't sound right to me.

Any idea how or what fixed it?
Just factory reset my phone last night.. And as for the numbers.. I know right.. Something isn't working here..

In their case it had to do with a routing table..but that routing table was for HTC devices so its not related to ours...
Both Mobile-AP and Android-Wifi-Tether experience the same issue as well :/..I do not think its wifi related either..it must be something in between the software and the sending to wifi.
Reason I say this is if you try the device with 4g on 1 bar, then 4g on 2 bars, then 4g on 3 bars on both the device and on phone you will see the speeds vary..example:
1 bar
phone: 4mbps/1mbps
laptop: 0.5mbps/0.03mbs
2bars
phone: 7mpbs/1mbps
laptop: 2mbps/1mbps
If it was the wifi speed, then the speed would not have dropped so much.. something in between is effecting it
Oh.. That makes sense. It's just too bad though. Thanks for helping me understand.
Probably the way the wifi and 4g radios are set up and how they interact with each other, maybe 4g has more priority than wifi. I'm just guessing though. I don't know much

Just FYI I too was getting slow speeds but with Sprints hotspot that I was paying $30 a month for. Needless to say I cancel the feature and will seek rooting my phone and add the free tethering, casue at those speeds it isnt worth it.
Sounds like the problem you are having might be caused by something that is the result of 4G and Wifi frequencies being the similar. If you are using both frequencies in a close proximity such as a room or house the frequencies have a high likeliness of causing interferences by reflecting off each other. A way to test this would be to compare wirless tethered speeds to wired ones on the same device.... Hope this helps.

Thing is its getting full speed on the device...at the time its using wimax..so wimax is not having the issue..not to mention..there is a relation to the wimax bars and the wimax speed which is strange...
Is anybody else experiencing weak WiFi signal in hotspot mode? Any way to boost the signal or change the WiFi channel?
I just got my EVO Shift last week. I really like the speed and funtionality much better than my old Hero.
My 3G signal seems much weaker than I had with the Hero. I'm dropping calls and data connections in loacations where I never have before.
I guess I should take the phone in to a store and have the Techs check the radios. 4G radio works pretty good, though it too doesn't get the throughput that my Sprint Overdrive did.

I finally got my phone in to the Sprint shop so they could run some diagnostics on the radios and they tell me its fine... I know its not, but I'll try to be patient and wait until at least the first major update to the phone before I make a rwal stink about it.
Is anybody else experiencing weeker signal levels for voice & data with the Shift? I'm dropping calls and data connections in places I never used to. Plus the signal output in hotspot mode is weak as well. I can be 10 feet from it with my tablet and only get 2 or 3 bars on my wifi signal level.

If all you want to do is bring up your 3G speeds. Do the mod on THIS post. It should fix the issue for you.
Anyway to improve 3G speeds on AOSP?
Evo SHIFT
Just flash back to a Sense rom. Make the changes, then flash back to AOSP.
MikShifted on XDA Premium APP
TEAM MiK
Mik ROMs Since 3/13/11
I do believe if you flash to sense, then go back, it has to be a new rom flash, not a nandroid, otherwise it restores those settings from the nandroid, not the changes you made in the sense rom.
You are correct . See now that I forgot to mention that .

I thought I had seen something about radio issues one time but now I can't find the thread. I've noticed that in places that my evo would have great reception the nexus goes between 3g and 1x alot. Also the wifi is a little strange every once and a while I have to reset the router so the nexus will see my network. All computers connect fine but the nexus doesn't even show my network in the list.

I noticed the same thing. I had both a Evo which was on stock HTC Sense, and I also had a Dell Netbook with built in WiMax. Both the Netbook and the Evo had 2-3 bars for 4G WiMax. 3 being full signal.
On the Nexus in the same locations, I only see 1 bar for WiMax 4G. I never loose connection though just the signal appears to be weaker then the Evo / Dell Netbook.
No was on cm7 on the evo. Also when I do the *#*#4636#*#* I see that unknown network is selected.

Yeah, I think this is causing battery drain for me as well. I'm pretty disappointed but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and attribute it to a software issue.
If the stupid "unstable" internet connection thing were to get fixed, I think I would finally have a perfect phone. And please don't say it's my router or that it works fine for you.... The wifi thing is a problem, and this is my second Note 3, and they both do the exact same thing. Everything else works fine with my router setup (FIOS), so to suggest that something needs changed there doesn't make any sense.
So, simply, does the OTA fix the WiFi connectivity problem?

I can't answer that unfortunately. I used to have the same problem at work (they used DLink access points which have problems with Samsung). They just replaced them all with HP hardware and I haven't had the error at all any more.
What I can say is that everything radio seems better for me with this update. I get 2 more bars for cellular reception as well as much better bluetooth clarity.

Service bars are just a visual thing. You have to check the actual reception numbers to see if your cellular reception has improved at all. I have been using my D-Link router with my Note 3 (as well as my previous S3) and the WiFi connection is rock solid. Maybe some of the networking equipment you had at work was older, but Samsung phones and D-Link equipment can connect without issue.

I'm aware that the bars can be played with by the carrier.
I used to lose my call twice on the way to work every day. Today I drove all the way without garble or a dropped call. I think the bars are real this time. I haven't checked the actual DB signal strength before so I don't have a good comparison.

I will not tell you that it's your router, because I don't think it is. However, I will tell you that I think it must have something to do with the software/hardware interface or there is something conflicting in the phone, because I did not have the "unstable" wifi issue on MJ7 at all, and after the update to MJE, I get the error every now and then.
Just my experience.

Fortunately for me, I do have the unlimited data, so I always have the option to just use the LTE signal. If I didn't, I would have had to return the phone or my bill would be through the roof. Everything else works fine with my home WiFi, but the Note 3 gives me the "your internet connection is unstable" message, regardless of my proximity to the router i.e. sitting right next to it!! At this point, with there being 2 or 3 "updates" since the phone was released, I have to say it's looking like a hardware problem. Otherwise where's the fix? BTW this is my 2nd Note 3 as I returned the first one thinking I got a lemon. The new one does the exact same thing. Wifi is a pretty basic function of a phone. If they can't get that right, I may have to think twice before I buy Samsung again. Do they not do any testing?

I asked VZW tech the same question "Don't you people test the device before it gets sold”? Like you sir this makes my 2nd note 3 I bought my first one on the edge program around the first week of NOV of this year. Do you have talk signal bars when your WiFi drops or have you noticed? What I've noticed is that when I lose signal "talk"not "WiFi", then my WiFi drops. I talked to VZW tech yesterday and they said Samsung is aware of the WiFi problem and that Samsung is working on a patch that will fix this problem. I hope Samsung fixes this problem soon because if it doesn't get fixed I will never buy another Samsung device, I'll go back to Nexus.

I am thinking on buying the s10+ and for that reason I tested the wifi signal against my....note 3 lite.
Surprisingly, the note 3 lite found more available wifi in contrast to the s10+.
The s10+ is the Exynos version.
I will buy the SD855 version though.
What are your thoughts on the wifi strength you have?
Thank you
I can compare only with mate 10 pro (previous device) and with tablet mediapad m5 Pro and compared to them seems s10+ (exynos) has worst WiFi signal. So more far room where other devices had half signal s10 is showing just above minimum and disconnecting sometimes... But speed seems same when connected.

U know how bad is wifi signal?
This phone has some smart **** so it wont even show networks with low signal, you need any 3d party wifi scanner app to show and connect to what he thinks are low signal networks.
And yeah, in general it has very weak wifi signal compared to other phones.
So, why should I buy this phone at all?

Don't if you are worried of what wifi-networks the phone can see. Why that matter I don't understand.
I've compared my SD s10+ side by side with my old galaxy s8 and the s10+ gets 5dB better signal.

I don't think anybody here cares if you buy the phone or not, unless somebody in the thread works directly for Samsung.
The Wi-Fi signal is good enough that's it's never been an issue for me, and I use the Snapdragon model by the way.
Never heard anyone making a phone purchase decision on Wi-Fi signal strength before, but whatever floats your boat.
