**Official QIK/Fring Member Listing** - EVO 4G General

I know that there are a few threads that have people testing QIK video chat, and Fring as well. I figured i'd start, and keep up to date an Official XDA Developers Forums member listing.
The purpose of this listing is to have a dedicated thread to have a list of peoples Qik/Fring user names to video chat with, all in one centralized area.
This will open ourselves up to the world of video chat.
As more information comes along of using Fring with Skype well, and with adding/removing contacts with Qik and once Qik becomes more stable, i'll post a very mini FAQ on this post as well for a quick reference.
Disclaimer # 1
This, of course, is 100% voluntary. I know I will personally keep Qik/Fring up as much as I can when i'm not working. So if anybody from here wants to do a video chat, and discuss the Evo or anything else, hit me up.
Disclaimer # 2
By providing your usernames to this thread for use with the Qik and Fring video chat services for Sprint, using the HTC Evo, you are fully aware that any member viewing these threads may attempt to initiate a video call with you at any time that you have the program open. To most, it's not a big deal, seeing as we're trying to break open the threshhold to these services, but for some it will be a big deal. If you're a privacy nut (even though no personal information can be gained on you unless given using these services), please do not provide your name to this thread. Thank you.

How are you guys video chatting with Qik? I still wasnt able to download the video-chat capable version since they pulled it from the market. Fring works but not always. And the UI is terrible.

No. So many people were using the app, their servers crashed. So they had to pull it from the market. Here's their blog post:

Good luck to them trying to get paying subscribers now.

help with gprs settings for vodafone uk on an xda1

hi all my first post so take it easy on me :wink: As above really I have tried everything I can find to set this up but have had no success only had the xda1 a few days so I am a little green with it.I know that the sim is gprs enabled because i had it working on my previos phone have tried help from vodafone that dont want to know because of it being an O2 phone all help appreciated please
Access Name;- internet
User name;- web
password;- web
Domain name not rqd
That should do it but not sure if you have to get it sorted also with Vodafone.
Tried it but it comes up with cant find the serial port name any suggestions vodafone emailed me last week said everything is switched on so I have ran out of ideas.
I have the same problem with XDA II
can anyone help
midhal
This is what I did;
1 Start / Settings / Connections Tab / Connections / Tasks / My ISP / Add new connection / Enter a name - Type whatever you want to call the connection, / Select a modem - scroll down to Cellular Line (GPRS) / Next / AccessPoint Name - internet / User Name - web / Password - web / Advanced button - check Use server-assigned IP address / Ok / Finish.
Try this it worked for me straight away http://www.expansys.com/forumthread.asp?code=108654&thread=31&man=IMATE
extract from the forum
OK got it now, after speaking to a very nice lady at Vodafone!
For GPRS internet connection for UK Vodafone sim cards, there are two categories: Pay as you Talk and Contract
Navigate to the usual screen: Start>Setting>Connections>Connections>
Add a New Modem to My ISP (use Cellular Line (GPRS)
For CONTRACT:
- APN: internet (lowercase)
- User: web (lowercase)
- Pwd: web (lowercase)
For PAY AS YOU TALK
- APN: pp.vodafone.co.uk(lowercase)
- User: web (lowercase)
- Pwd: web (lowercase)
leave anything else blank!
For me, what I was getting wrong was using APN: internet instead of pp.vodafone.co.uk!
Hope this clarifies the issue!

WM6 and asterisk

Hi.
I have just installed the SIP things for my HTC S710, and I'm trying to get it working with my Asterisk server, but i can only seem to get the same error message, even though the phone is configured properply with the username and password.
This is the error i get in asterisk debug;
Transmitting (NAT) to 10.20.2.242:1026:
SIP/2.0 401 Unauthorized

im using asterisk as well... i have an eten M700 with the sip stack installed and i can make/recv calls tru my asterisk box. try with canreinvite=yes and nat=yes on your asterisk box. BTW... WM6 and VOIP sucks... REALLY!!!!
can't say it really helped, still getting unauthorized.
The stack in sip.conf looks like this;
[300]
callerid=S710 <300>
host=dynamic
user=300
secret=********
type=friend
nat=yes
canreinvite=yes
context=tv-out
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
these are the codec settings for my sip.conf
allow=ulaw
allow=alaw ; Allow codecs in order of preference
allow=gsm
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
try adding:
qualify=yes (and remove the canreinvite)
canreinvite=no
port=5060
ps, your * box is in the same subnet of your phone.... For testing only try the sjphone too.
there is an xpro for wm but i cant get it work.
OT: i really cant figure out WHY my phone hangs if i have any open app and i use the voip function... :s
Also you are gonna to hear tru the loudspeaker, there is an app to switch to the earpiece, but you need to switch it manually....

Vodafone Live! problem with HTC HD2

I can't seem to access Vodafone Live! properly on my HD2. I cannot see the full content like on my N95 phone. I just get text and a lot of missing content. I have contacted vodafone and htc but they seem to not understand. I have setup the required settings/proxy to access Vodafone live!. Is it a windows mobile issue/compatibility? Or can it be fixed? If so how?

I think you will need to set up the proxy in opera / PIE , i m not with vodafone anymore, so i m not 100% sure. But when I help my friend set up optus, opera doesnt work, need to type in "config" in the URL bar to set it up.

uncheck the proxy settings
start - settings - connections - connections - setup my proxy server -
The quickest way to access Vodafone Live on the HD2 is to change your data settings to use "WAP" instead of contract internet.

Thats correct because with those settings it can only access the vodafone live! page. Here are screen shots of what I get which is very limited compared to my Nokia N95:
With opera:
As you can see it is only displaying text and it has very limited/missing content like mobile tv for example.
Any suggestions why that is guys?
To belsj can you post screenshots of what you get when your acessing vodafone live!?

You have to go to My Vodafone and disable this "Service" from vodafone which extracts the content from the page for Phones that dose not have a real browser. After that you can surf normal.
Vodafone Live requires a proxy server to setup only in windows (except from a few third party applications which dose not use the windows settings). The proxy server is why this service is so cheap. It makes sure you can only use the HTTP Port (80) and HTTPS Port (443). All services which working over HTTP or HTTPS are working over Vodafone Live.
In example Exchange Push works because it uses HTTPS (also Google Sync because it uses the same protocol). I also able to use apps like PocketTwit or the Facebook client and can hear live Podcasts and Webstreams with Kinoma Play. Also the HTC Services like Weather or Facebook works.
It is also possible to tunnel SSH over it so you can access any port you want. But i dose not found any good SSH client which autostart, autoconnects and autoreconnect if the connection is lost and all in background.
Its also possible to use it from you Notebook when you set up you browser to use the Vodafone Live proxy server. But its server if you tune the borwsers user agent string to a mobile version, because i dont know if Vodafone review its logs if someone uses a PC Browser to surf over it since it is not allowed in the terms of use.
Make sure you setup the proxy server under connection only for HTTP and Wap not for Socks.
Vodafone live
looks like another service provider portal designed to increase their revenue from mobile data use.

Sending Emails via NTLWORLD.COM

Dear Folks,
I have searched this on the forum, but can't find an answer.
I receive my emails on my "stock" HTC HD2 via pop.ntlworld.com, but I can not send emails at all - I have tried all settings but I must be doing something wrong.
Has anybody an idea how I can set-up SMTP on ntlworld.com?
Regards
ANDREW (Yateley, UK)
hi.
i am with ntl (virgin)..here are my settings and all work for me
incoming server
pop.ntlworld.com
outgoing server
smtp.ntlworld.com
all in lower case.
regards
op
Does the virgin media web-site not help? They claim to have instructions there
I am also with virgin but when I joined view were ntl and for my email to work on my phone I have to put t mobiles info in!
so yes its
pop.ntlworld.com
smtp.t-email.co.uk
these work for me
the ntl world smtp server won't let you send mail un less you are connected via their network.so over wifi smtp.ntlworld will send but over mobile will fail. you can receive through pop.ntlworld on any network, so as noted above, the answer lies in using an smtp server that lets you connect from any network, which you may already have with your phone contract.
so long as you put your ntlworld email address a the return address, no one will know any difference.
personally I use domain name email severs.you can buy .co.uk addresses for 3 quid a year which gives you access to their pop and smtp severs even without a hosting package.
I am using:
Incoming server: pop.ntlworld.com
Outgoing: smtp.ntlworld.com:25
With Outgoing server requires authentication [ticked]
Network connection I am using is "The Internet"
But with these settings I can not send email (unless I connect to my home wireless connection)
I had tried the smtp.t-email.co.uk without success.
Any ideas would be so very much appreciated.
Regards
ANDREW

I too am with NTL world for my email. I ended up setting up a googlemail account on my phone because of this problem. Now all of my NTL World emails are automatically forwarded to my googlemail account and I can sent emails from that account using my phone. Not a perfect scenario but at least it works. Regards

Actually the setup the Outgoing server only for the google mail server. then leave the incoming server as ntlworld's.
that's how have mine setup that way it really doesn't matter if your on wifi or mobile network
just make sure you respect that outgoing on google uses SSl, incoming on NTL doesn't

The smtp.t-email.co.uk requires you to be with T-Mobile in the UK
well that is who I am with and on the T-Mobile website it says to use that smtp address, I never change the ports, just leave it how the phone sets it, 110 and 25 i think!
NTL settings are:
IN pop.(FILL IN FROM THE LIST BELOW):110 (T-Mobile) (not sure for others,maybe leave how your phone puts it)
OUT smtp.ntlworld.com port:25
I am with T-mobile and I use smtp.t-email.co.uk
Neither has the 'secure' box ticked.

Does it need the "Outgoing Server Requires Authentication" tickbox ticked?

You need to be with T-Mobile to get t-email.co.uk working
not sure if you need to be registered!!
"Log on using secure authentication" box as this should NOT be checked when setting up NTL mail account.
make sure when filling in USERNAME
its just the 1st part of your email without the @ntlworld.com
Dear Folks
I have spent hours configuring and re-configuring my HD on Virginmobile all without success.
I have now decided to use another SMTP (UK2.net) and this works fine.
I find it crazy that I have Virgin media, and Virgin mobile - and they can't work together!
Oh well...many thanks to you folks for all the advice - all to no avail.
Regards
ANDREW

Hi Andrew
I really am not sure why you cant do what you want but have you thought about this :
setting up a googlemail account is SOOOOO easy on your HD2
pop.gmail.com
smtp.gmail.com
and then from your virgin/ntworld account forward the mail to your gmail account and you will receive them on your HD2 and then in setting you can go to reply email and type in your ntl/virgin email so when you email someone from your new googlemail account the reply email for the person is your ntl/virgin account
i had to do this method one time on my LG POP

[Q] Strange problem with uploading to YouTube: /

Hi,
I'm trying to log on to YouTube (Start> Settings>> Data Services>> Social Networking), pressing the button 'On', typein my username and password to YouTube, but all the time I'm logged out. I'm sure that username and password are 100% correct.
The problem also appears when trying to upload a video on YouTube (Start>> Settings> Other>> Uploader), find a list of files to upload and YouTube that are waiting and trying to send: /
What's the problem? : /
