I am new to android but did countless ROM updates to my windows phones.
My question is : my phone is t-mobile branded but unlocked can I updates its Official Rom? will it lock again? what are the known issues doing such update on unlocked phone?

If you used an unlock code then installing other ROMs (official or custom) will not affect the SIM lock of your handset.

Since unlocking SGS is legal, through a Samsung server (so I understood) I kindly ask you to recommend me a reliable site for this kind of service. I ordered the unlock code through globalunlock.com and even if they had good reviews on www, they seem to be disappeared.
Thank you.
there are currently no unlocking for SGS, because the international i9000 version comes unlocked from factory.
only the USA/Canada versions are locked, and those are not available to be unlocked yet
I have heard that if you update your phone through kies, it gets unlocked?
i doubt it, that will defeat the purpose to be locked
I believe it can still be SIM-locked by carriers though. Mine is supplied by T-Mobile UK and asks for an unlock code if I put an old Orange SIM in it.
Note that I have no problems flashing ROMs on it though.
Yeah this true I'm on t mobile uk and I thought if flashed new firmware it would lock my phone but it didn't so your ok to flash new firmware

Yes, I was refering to SIM-lock. Mine is locked on Orange Romania.
I can live with this if I would be able to update firmware, flashing ROMs and other stuff.
Should I dare flashing ROMs? By now I rooted it and applied a lagfix and I had no problems.
I updated firmware to I9000XXJP3. Everything looks ok for the moment
that is an alpha build of froyo AFAIK
the latest stable and fast firmwares are JH2 and JH1 for some other areas
my precious is european. should I use JP2?
Im noticing that the latest at&t rom is newer than the latest retail rom. If I insall the at&t Rom, is it still unlocked?
Yes, I had an unlocked and installing att did not lock it back. I asked the same question here somewhere a while back.
Hey guys,
Saw a very good deal on ebay india, the seller is selling an unlocked version Note - 3 T-mobile (US), so it can work on Indian GSM carriers.
Now, if you see the description: it mentions:
"The OS Software is Unlocked to Work with all GSM SIMS.
You are not supposed to Update the OS Software as Unlock code is applied to it"
2 quick questions:
1) Can you help me understand what does the seller mean here? The device will obviously be running on JB, so i wont be able to update it to the officially released Kitkat? Will manually flashing a firmware from say Sammobile, revert the unlock code and make the device useless?
2) Buying a US phone for Indian use.. Will i miss out on any features? or will it be a problem in any way??
Please help me out guys
hi everyone,
i'm considering buying an at&t unlocked phone (unlocked by carrier as the seller noted).
does anybody knows if after a firmware upgrade the phone will be locked again?
or the upgrades come straight from blackberry servers and not from at&t.
i'm gonna use the phone in Israel and not the US.
My Priv is an AT&T unlocked one. I did the Autoloader update and use it in Brazil without any problem.

More than likely. Most of the carrier branded devices in NA will only get OTA updates pushed from the carriers themselves. I know I've seen a number of users posting on the Crackberry Priv forum complaining about not being able to get OTA updates with an unlocked device from some provider without a provider SIM, I want to say T-mobile, but cannot recall with certainty. But, it seems very likely that you'll have to autoload any system updates.

will need to learn how to autoload updates without bricking my device.
Dear Lacordaire,
which software version did you use? the AAF 153 that is the Marshmallow version or the AAE 599 Lollipop version?
usually firmware updates dont relock phone if you used the NCK code.
Read this. I do it today. Works well

This may be a rather basic, question, but I'm trying to play it safe so I don't brick my S10+ (SM-G975U). Can I download an official Tmobile Android 10 ROM and flash the phone with it? The phone is not rooted and the bootloader hasn't been touched (at least by me).
I purchased an unlocked AT&T device and use it on Tmobile without issue. I am not, however, receiving any updates from AT&T or Tmobile, so I'm looking to update to Android 10.
Is this possible?

Yes, you can take any official carrier firmware made for the phone and flash it with the patched version of Odin. The bootloader has to match though. If you're on bootloader 2 you can't flash a bootloader 1 ROM. You can even flash the unlocked Samsung U1 firmware. You can also jump from Android 10 back to Android 9 and then back to 10 as of late. The phone can't be rooted nor can the bootloader be unlocked.
Bootloader version
Thanks for the quick reply and I appreciate the guidance. How would I know what bootloader I am running on my device currently and what version of bootloader the ROM is?

No problem. To find out your bootloader go to settings, about phone, software information. Look under baseband version and you should see "G975USQU2CSKP" or something along those lines. The 2 right before CSKP is your bootloader version. If it says 1 instead of 2, then you're on bootloader 1.
