ive heard of a way to do it but i just cant find a code. ive heard there was a way to create new live folders but it just seems like top secret information. there was someone whom tried this and released an app called groupie, but it doesnt even work. i have no experience with programming whatsoever, but am willing to research and try doing this myself. Im hoping someone can beat me to the punch tho. Id like to be able to create live folders for different contact groups. why has android been denying us the ability to do this? Surely there can be a simple longpress option added for creating a live folder. Sheesh...

1 Long-press on your home screen (or push +).
2 Shortcut
3 Direct dial (or Direct message, whatever you want).
4 Choose a person.
5 (repeat steps 1-4 until you have all the contacts you want)
6 Long-press on your home screen (or push +)
7 Folder
8 New folder (a new folder will appear on your screen)
If you tap the folder to open it, long-press along the top bar (where the name of it is - "Folder") and you can rename the folder to WHATEVER you want.
9 Drag the contacts (made in steps 1-5) to the folder, the same way you'd drag them to another screen. Long-press them, and drop them onto the folder.
10 Profit
that's not what I'm talking about. I know about that. im referring to list view that live folders have. but since im not a dev and wont be able to create something like that w/ time n patience, i found folder organizer to be pretty helpful.

Folks
Can you help me with my questions below:
1. Can I modify/filter the kind of News (like technology, country specific) that has to appear on my home screen (AP news service) or change the news provider to different like google news?
2. When downloading games from market they straight away appear as icons in the applications section as separate game apps. Instead can I create a folder called 'Games' and move all the game apps into it and create a icon for this folder to look like other apps.
3. Finally, wanted to know where the installation files are stored so that I can clear them - just weary that those files/temp files may build over time (thinking in terms of a PC)
thanks for suggesting
S
I don't know about question 1, but the others:
2. You can only create folders on a homescreen, not in the application drawer.
3. Don't think you need to worry about this. I expect they either get removed after installation or a cron job will clear them up sooner or later.
2. You can only create folders on a homescreen, not in the application drawer. So how can you organise the games instead of them populating and getting mixed with all the other applicaitons - I still think there must be some way of doing this!
3. Don't think you need to worry about this. I expect they either get removed after installation or a cron job will clear them up sooner or later. This is great, thanks for the confirmation

I´l start with an App i would like to have. A simple
MIRROR
I use I9000 (JPY) and would like to have the Frontcamera used as Mirror. Showing me my Face looking at the phone.
This is interesting for alle they need to profe if the Dinner ist eaten or the Hairs are done bevore a important meeting, the tie is correct and last not least the ladies would also like to proofe the style of theyr face sometimes.
One push on the homescreen ON, one push on the mirror (picture) OFF.
Thank you in advance
Jamboambo
good idea on the mirror !
A folder hiding app, like the old (Encrypted) Magic Folders for Windows, that makes any folders you choose and any files within those folders completely invisible to others. Possibly with encrypting capability. Only your password lets the folders reappear in a file manager or the open file dialog of any given application.
The classic Guess Who game for android like the iphone..id donate for this lol.
Greets All,
I have a couple of quick questions, the first one will probably be easy to answer, but some roms have 4 desktops you can finger swipe or use the home key to navigate to, other roms have 7, is there a way to add more then 7?
Second question, I asked this thru PM but never got an answer so now I'll ask here. As we all have been searching for the bluetooth mac address fix that doesnt put a generic Mac, I went on the hunt and found so far only 1 Kernel that actually has either a unique address or the actual address, and no answer as to why the only one I found is a kernel that works on an SDcard version of android.
I am of course not talking about gingerbread since I am not using that, but 2.2.1, I tried to figure out endlessly for days and weeks, but I am not a programmer, but I would think it wouldnt been that difficult to make it work on nand roms or zip roms. Obviously I tired to take the kernel and push it into the rom I use which is a zip DesireHD build, and it just hung at the boot screen, I tried it with other roms and the same problem. Someone said that SDCard kernels are different then nand and zip roms and thats why it hung.
But I guess the question is if the solution is in the kernel and obviously credit to the kernel dev, why cant it be implimented to our current roms? Now if there is already a fix for this without having to manually enter it, then please point me to that thread, cause all the ones that pop up either have no replies or looking for the same thing.
No idea for the BT thing, but the amount of homescreens simply depends on your home app. I believe both LauncherPro and ADW Launcher (both free on market) support more than 7 screens, not sure on either of them though.
You should however seriously reconsider if you really need more than 7 homescreens. If you need them for shortcuts to apps: why? There's no use transferring everything to your homescreen when you can just as easily scroll through the app drawer. Create a few strategic folders if you need some more structure.
If you want all these homescreens for widgets, take into account that this is bad for both performance and battery life. 7 is already quite a lot, crossing that barrier doesn't seem like a wise decision to me.
Well I wasnt looking for go crazy with the screens I was merely talking maybe 2 more, and not for shortcut to apps, thats what we got the app drawer for. I was talking more like (just an example):
1- Home screen
2- Email
3- SMS
4- Weather
5- Facebook
6- Social Hub
7- Shortcuts/widgets
8- Calendar
9- Music
Wow 20 reads and 1 reply, either I ask really hard questions or no one cares. amazing.
How can I add folders to my dock? If anyone can help me out that would be great, thank you!
Sent from my Droid using XDA Premium App
I use GoLauncher Ex and I've never applied a folder to the dock. I don't think you can, correct me if I'm wrong but you can only add to the screen which I have two folders on mine. Just long press on any free spot on the screen till you have a pop up you will have options to choose ie.,Widgets, shortcuts, applications, and folders choose folders you will get another popup asking what folders you want, contacts ,starred folder , new folder ect. Choose new folder it will exit back to the screen you choose you will see a plain square then hit your apps drawer long press your apps drag to the bottom of your screen where it says add to home screen once that is on your screen drag that app to the folder(plain square) and release it. Now its your folder repeat the process for your desired apps or for as many folders as you want. Hope it helps.
That won't help you with GO EX,but with ADW EX you can put Folders in Dock

Thank you and some discovering I did
Hey, thank you so much bullswife98 and mblaster4711 for giving that advice.
I must say since I left that last post, a lot has changed with GO Launcher EX now. They came out with a beta a couple weeks ago and its great! It allows you to do exactly what I had wanted to do, but it doesn't have the feature to let you put folders into folders, but its cool, I love this new one now.
After I posted that question, I had decided to look for the best folder organizer out there that worked well with me. I did find a app tool called, Folder Organizer 3.4.3. That allowed me to not only put folders created within that app on the dock but I was also able to easily change the folders icon and also put folders within folders! I had a it for a good while, but I still had to do some discovering. I tried out ADW Launcher EX but it didn't work so well for me, it just didn't have enough the customizing features like GO Launcher EX did. I like a lot of things about adw but I was just more comfortable with GO more then anything. I tried a couple other launchers but found myself back with my usual. lol.
About a week ago I found a app tool called Elixir2 and I'm so glad I found it because ever since I started messing around with it haven't been able to put it down, literally. It makes you think for sure. It has features like allow you to put customized widgets on your screen, you can find out pretty much anything about you phone from that app. It's very useful and clear for anyone. I'm still learning about all of this stuff so I have found it very helpful and useful. The app also has add-ons that give you other features. You should check it out if you're interested because I know I haven't even said everything that it can do. Plus the best thing is.. it's free!
Once again,
Thank you very much.

This is on a rooted Verizon S5 SM-G900V with Alliance ROM 4.4.2. Is there any way to invert the background and text without inverting images? Especially in Chrome, but it would be nice for the whole phone. White lettering on a black background is much easier to read.
I'm seeing screenshots online of Alliance that are nice and dark (I think it's called Black Glass?), including the phone dialer. How do I get the whole android theme dark.
Same thing with other apps. There's a few local TV news apps that have a bright white background that I wish I could customize to a dark theme. The Samsung Music Player is bright white as well. Anyway to make these dark in Alliance?
The problem I've noticed with third-party dialer apps is that they let you type the phone number, but when you hit the phone button to place the call, it opens up the Android dialer with the bright white background. Right back to square zero. Basically, I'm just trying to figure out how to get that nice black look like I'm seeing on some of the alliance ROM screenshots.
Thanks.

The app on 4.4 you needed to theme was called InCall.apk there is an app on 5.0 call LegacyInCallUI.apk so would amuse that its this one but if you are running a custom rom then it may have the original InCall app, if you look is System\app or System\Priv-app folder (most likely the priv-app folder teh one you need will be in there.
Problem at the moment is that apktool has a problem with Samsung apk's and compiling them, its not so much apk tool as more likely something Samsung have added in their security to prevent apktool working as it should, so you can decompile apps fine if the app does compile then you can use the .png files, xml files but the resources arsc most likely will cause the app to crash. Also they have use .pkm files which you can't see like you can with .png files so you need specific software to look at them, again Samsung trying to prevent theming of stock apps.
Hmmm. Well, that's all a bit over my head. So, is there not an easy way to install an app or change a setting somewhere? I'm not sure what to actually to click on with all those files you mentioned. I find searching for files in Android to be confusing and nothing like a Windows PC with the usual file directory locations. Like, WHERE is the C:\ drive on the phone?

The apps are in the system folder called
system\app
system\priv-app
system\framework
But if you have never done theming before then don't even try you would need to start with simple things and learn what to do and what not to do.
Can't help with the app question as I have no idea, maybe there is something that someone else can answer that for you.
I am looking at theming these form myself but I don't have the time at the moment, I don't share them any more though as there are far too many ungrateful people around these days.
