camera pics blur? - HD2 General

i seem to get slight blurring in my pics if my subject moves im any way which is really annoying, any setting to help this?

you could try playing with your iso settings this may help a bit although the lighting may not come out how u want it.
also try lightly tapping and removing your finger quickly rather than pressing and holding.

Camera usage tip with autofocus...

Maybe everyone knows it but I just discovered this yesterday! LOL
We already knew that you could press the "2-stage" camera button to get a focus then take the snap shot...but....this sometimes causes the picture to come out blurry because, as has happened to me on many many occassions, I accidentally move the camera. Hate that!
Well, today I found out that I could focus with the camera button then take the snapshot/picture with the action joystick. DUH! Man this makes it much easier to take clear pictures. Hope this tip helps others!

Cool tip!!
you know what...? I didn't know that... THANKS!
je je what a dummies...
Real man don't use this button, they allways use the camera button!
Thanks, really a simple and god tip!
The way I prevent blurry picture due to shaking hand, is to use the timer. In that way, your hand does not move at all, and you will have the best chance of taking a sharp looking picture

I never knew that (and I thought I'd pressed all the buttons all the time!) Cheers
Cool finding.
I ever found that the force needed to press the camera button to the second position was too much and making almost imposible to keep the camera steady in short distance pictures.
The solution I used to use was the mentioned timed shot, but I found quite anoying waiting for two seconds to the camera to shot.
I was running some tests and I find out quite easy to focus with the camera button and shot with the joystick. But I find out too that pressing the joystick makes the autofocus and shoting in a row. I mean you don't need to press the camera button.
Off course there is a exception. If you need to move the frame between the moment that you autofocus and the shot. This is useful when you want to focus something that is not exactly in the middle of the frame. For example. You have a girl and a landscape behind her. Off course you want to focus the girl but you want the girl, let say, in the right og the picture (of the frame). So you 1) Point the camera to the girl setting her in the middle of the frame then 2) press smoothly the camera button and the focus will be on the girl then 3) while keep pressing the camera button move the frame to set the girl in the right of the frame and 4) either press deeper the camera button (risking the blur picture) or press joystick (as propoussed here) to take the shot. The girl will be focused and in the right.
But... if in the same case you want the girl just in the middle of the frame you can just press the joystick and quickly will focus and shot the camera. You don't need to use both buttons. So the risk of getting blur in the picture is less than using both buttons or (off course) using the two fases camera button only.
Best Regards,
mahjong
mine has "half-press" option (x7501, Dual 3.0 ROM)
Open the camera app.
Tap the wrench icon in the lower left corner.
Tap the wrench icon on the far right of the lineup of icons along the bottom (advanced)
"shoot option" can be set to full press or half press.
It still autofocuses pretty well as long as your pointing the camera right at the subject. If you need to sepreate the focus and shooting functions (like we're doing art shots with this thing?) that's would be your only reason, IMHO, to use the full press.
At least that's how mine works. I couldn't find it in the User manual. Hope it helps.
Awesome feedback people.
I also found that if your experience delays with your camera and keep missing that perfect shot....that setting the camera to the Burst or Sport mode helps. I've had better luck with the Burst mode myself.
FYI, for Athena Project 4.0, we might have an updated camera. ...we'll see how it all goes during testing. Wouldn't want to put something nasty in the ROM just because it's newer.

[Q] Rotate a picture

Hello,
My HD2 doesn't seem to rotate the picture correctly when I take a picture with the camera. As the HD2 has an accelerometer I thought it would automatically rotate the picture depending on how I am holding the phone, but it doesn't. The picture is always as if I was holding the phone vertically (even though the camera interface is horizontal).
Also, there is no way in HTC Album to actually rotate the stupid picture. That's really annoying.
I see nobody complaining about this, so am I the only one having troubles with that?
Also, is there a way to turn off the dial tone in the telephone? It's really loud and annoying.
Thank you

So what actually happens if you hold the phone horizontally and take a picture? Is that picture then immediately shown back to you on it's side??? (so you'd have to go to portrait in order to see it the right way round?)
To turn off the dial tone (which I agree, is just hideous), go to settings tab, menu, all settings, personal, phone and change the keypad value to Off.

Ok, that is weird, I just tried to be sure and it looks like it's working fine now. Weird bug... worth thing is that I didn't even update my phone.

Thanks a lot for that one! My OS is in french and the translation for that option is so bad that I didn't understand what it meant.

Glad you got them both sorted. That is weird with the camera. Maybe an issue with your accelorometers? It'd be worth keeping an eye out, but it was probably just a bug.

Camera hardkey

Is there someway to set hardkey for taking picture for example volume key up? It would be lot easier to use camera.
good idea!!
I'm curious about this too. Although I use custom ROMs (freyberry), I try to reassign buttons via the settings menu, but NO buttons appear in the list, so can't be reassigned. Odd.
that would be great, hope someone to find a way!
I'd like this too, but don't expect a positive response. If we wanted to assign one hard button to a different one then I could believe that happening. But it's not a button that you want to emulate - it's touch on the screen, and that's a completely different thing. I think it would mean hacking the actual camera app to get what you're asking.
Fingers crossed that I'm wrong
somebody managed to do it on the iphone, so hopefully they can do it on this!

It's a good idea - but I don't really miss a hardware camera button too much. Would love it if the volume keys could be remapped in the camera application to act as zoom in/out instead. The current zoom in/out process is a real pain.

Isn't it digital zoom?
Why bother?
Taking photo of myself requires so much effort without the hard key!!
Hope someone can come out with something for this.
Anyone tried AEBPlus?
I am looking for the same .. its tough to take pics when you have a greasy hand

Not such a crazy request - just out on holiday at the moment and as usual I often snap quick shots of my wife and I in front of the major sites - the best way around this is to put the phone in self timer mode. 10 seconds is best i found as it gives enough time allow the camera to autofocus when moving it into position.

Taking Picture With Camera Problem

I don't know about you guys but i think its stupid the way you take a picture when you move the camera it autofocusses on to a certain spot but when you press the button to take picture it doesn't try to focus first i think the camera should do that to get the best picture since when pressing this button you move the camera...
Also when taking a picture on screen it looks nice and bright but when taking the picture it is very dark how can this be helped?
Does anyone know what to do about it?
Thnx!
Hi,
Have you tried adjusting the settings, i.e. Brightness, Sharpness & ISO?
I found the camera takes a little adjusting to get the best out of it. As for the auto-focus isn't there an option for that? I no longer use the Stock HTC ROM so I cannot remember if it contained such a setting.
its because your meant to touch the area of the picture you want it to focus on, then take the picture.
i've been having a hard time taking self shots with girlfriend.
srsly.
Idk how you guys use it
please advice.

enable "self portrait" option in the camera menu and it will auto focus and auto shoot without a single button pressed.

Blurry Photos

I've been using the camera a lot lately and have always had a problem with the picture quality, mainly indoor pics. I would hold the phone steady, press the shutter button down halfway, wait for it to focus, then take a picture, but it would still end up a little blurry. Anyone getting problems like this? If not, what settings are you using?
Also, my biggest gripe is the fact that camera settings can't be saved. I would set it up so a friend could take a picture of me, but they somehow always press that search button, which then erases all my camera settings when they go back to the camera app. Did anyone find a hack or some sort of method to keep the settings permanent?
The main reason I have to bring all this up was biggest after taking blurry pictures last night, my friend's just bust out their iphones and with one simple click, they took an almost instantaneous photo with no settings to mess with and no blur at all.
I would also like to add that one of my friends was trying to take photos with his lg quantum as well, and he has the same problem. Is this a problem with windows phone 7 in general?
you could check out shcamera. It's a sideloaded app that was developed for the hd2 crowd, so it doesn't use the camera button, it's all screen rouc, and it doesn't have all the various settings/adjustments, but it saves settings and works pretty good. Tap screen to focus, press onscreen shutter button to take picture.

Same here. I owned an HD7 that didn't have this blurry issue. It seems the Focus camera is super sensitive to movement.
Thanks, at least I know i'm not the only one with this problem. I try to turn on anti shake everytime i use the app, which actually helps a lot. The problem is when I give the phone to someone so they can take the picture. They somehow accidently press the search button and I have to play with the settings again. Kind of a bummer, but I'll try to get used to it.

You might consider having them take more than one picture. I've noticed that when I take another picture after the blurry one, the results tend to be more normal. Maybe have them take a preliminary picture and then a real one. This seems preferable to messing with settings all the time.
Nice. The new NoDo update made the anti-shake option on by default. That will help a lot!

the nodo update didnt default the anti shake on by default on my focus .
The official nodo update for att focus includes a Samsung update that defaults the antishake on, helps lessen accidental capacitive button presses, includes an att hotspot sniffer/whisper that auto logins, and has a provision for transferring att phonebook contacts onto the phone

Me, too. Still have blurry pics, though.
in low light indoors you might want to try the setting photo quality on medium instead of the default hi setting.
