Phone drops 3g/1x - Droid Incredible General

My phone has recently been messing up, and it's rather annoying.
I'll unlock my phone, try to use my data connection, and it won't load a page. I look at the top, and there is no 3g icon. Only way to fix it is to put it into airplane mode and back again. Anyone else have this issue?
I have a replacement on it's way because it keeps shorting out with a line in jack, but it wont be here for a while because of the back orders.
I searched the forums, didn't see this topic addressed, sorry if this is already being discussed.

I have the same problem with 3G dropping into 1X with a decent signal. I got the Real Signal app from the Market which will display the EVDO and CDMA signal separately and discovered that the EVDO signal was at least -10 to -25 db weaker than the CDMA signal. I reported this to VZ and they were supposed to send some one out to this location to check the tower signal and get back to me but have heard nothing for about 5 days now. Will check with them again tomorrow. I think that it is an antenna problem or radio front end problem on the 1900 MHZ band. Need to find out something by the middle of next week because my 30 day period will be up then.

It doesn't just lose 3g, it has no data connection at all. Only way to fix it is airplane mode or power off then on.

Mine is liking to drop my signal to 1x. And my call quality sucks.

Mine stopped loading web pages all together. You have to clear the cash is is defaulted to 6mb. That is what Verizon told me to do and the phone works great. I run the world at war page from face book all day. Face book is blocked by my company's software. Every night I clear the cash.

Network problems or 8525 broken?

I have been having this problem for awhile and thought it would change based on different ROM and radios, but it doesn't.
Strangely I don't remember this happening right when I got the phone, but then again, I might not have noticed, or it might have started after I first reflashed (to the official 8525 update 2.15)
If I leave the phone in the default Auto band select mode, with any ROM and radio (although I never tried going back to the initial shipped one) I get almost every call dropped if I have a 3G signal. It also happens with data. I will be in a call and suddenly the sound both ways will cut out, I look at the phone and the 3G has changed to G. The call won't "end" until I press the end key, but there is no sound either way. The same thing will happen with data like if say I am streaming music. The icon will turn from 3G to G and then eventually reconnect.
If I set it on GSM only, this never (well almost, no dropped calls, but the icon will randomly flash to G now and then... maybe happened like twice) happens and no calls or data connections are dropped.
When I was in Africa I used an Areeba SIM and while the signal was only G (E in Accra, the capital of Ghana) most of the time, I never once had a dropped call.
My phone is in great condition, with a plastic case and what not, and has only been like, really lightly dropped (like fallen out of my pocket when changing or something, maybe a few inches) a couple times, but nothing remotely like bad.
I've noticed that if I set it to WCDMA only, I get only a few dropped calls and data and only if I lose service. Which led me to believe the problem was with switching from 3G to E/G.
I looked around on here and saw that a few other people had dropped calls as well, but can't help but wonder if this is a physical hardware problem or a network problem or a problem with the radio version.
What's weird is that I noticed it happens even in strong 3G areas (I'm in New Jersey) like Long Branch and New York City.
Any ideas?
This is a well documented problem. As you have discovered the solution is to use an application like Danielhererro's Bandswitch application (see commmgrpro) to force it to one band or another. The Hermes is set to constantly swap to strongest band - it does not do this well at all. Even within one room for example the signal can vary from one band being strongest to another. This is not a fault peculiar to your phone!!.

Lost Signal, Never Came Back [Fishing]

I'm just fishing for some others who might have experienced this problem, and then for any possible solutions.
Short: When I lose signal for an extended period of time, it never comes back. I have to perform a reboot or turn airplane mode on and off (which seems to take around 2-3 minutes when this issue occurs) for signal to return.
Long (to give you a better idea of what I'm talking about):
The other day I visited the Marine Corps Museum. While inside, I lost signal. After about an hour or so we left the museum and headed towards DC (that's Washington, D.C. - the nation's capital and one of the best areas to be a T-Mobile customer).
I hadn't tried to use my phone since I had first walked inside the museum, but about 20 minutes after leaving I pulled out my phone to text message a friend and I noticed I still had no signal. I waited for a minute to see if the signal would come back, but it never did.
I rebooted my phone and my signal returned (full bar HSDPA).
I know I wasn't in a bad signal area. I was on Route 1 North, which I know for a fact has great data coverage with T-Mobile. There are a couple of spots on I-95 that drop signal, but it's usually between Fredericksburg and Stafford for about 0.5 miles (I was nowhere near there).
Has anyone experienced a similar issue?
I have this same issue daily. I do not get a signal at work and have to reboot or turn airplane mode on then off to regain a signal. It is frustrating to say the least.
I'd like to draw your attention to those two threads: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=632552 and http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?/topic/1599-loss-of-signal-no-reacquisition-issue/
Right now I'm logging the output of logcat to SD card, waiting for the issue to reappear... it would be awesome if we had a way to reliably reproduce the issue, but so far, I didn't find one.

Dropping Signal

Hey there people.
Hoping I've not missed an existing thread.
I'm having problems with X10 dropping its signal seemingly through its own free will. Had phone since mid april and not had any problems with. But the other week me and the missus noticed occasionally i wasn't receiving texts she had sent me. This happened every now and again for a few days. I then noticed when i picked up phone it'd show signal on 3G as maybe 2 or 3 bars then suddenly drop too nothing, showing the little x indicating no signal. After a few seconds up to a min it'd pick signal back up and work again. I no for a fact its not me been in an area without 3G coverage because it happens at work and until this started happening i got a strong 3G signal there. It doesn't seem too switch too edge either any more. Its set too GSM/WCDMA prefered. I'm on 02.
Anyone else have similar problems or any clues on what the problem it.
Cheers

Data dissappears during phone calls? Realization time

Has it always been like this? Flashed a few roms and radios. But I think I never really thought about it or noticed it until now and it's really bugging me. I've read a few topics about 3g and 4g being "parallel" to our voice calls so we can't have both? I don't quite understand any of it.
Can someone tell me it's just my phone so I can try to solve the problem, or reassure me that we can't have both at the same time so I can sleep better tonight? lol
Thanks for any and all help!
Edit: Sorry meant to post this in the question thread.

ALL GSM phones that are connected to HSPA or greater should be able to talk and surf at the same time. I do it frequently personally. Do you know if you drop to EDGE/GRPS when you get on a phone call?
I am also having this issue but its strange that the guy posting above me does not face this issue - may be it is a hardware issue like screen and emmc since I already tried different roms and radios?. As soon as I am in a call I am disconnected from network data. I noticed only recently when I was in a hotel room working on my laptop (tethered phone to provide internet) and just when I joined a conference call, I lost internet. It was so embarrassing I couldnt curse tmobile and htc enough. The iphone ad about talking and surfing at the same time never made sense to me before this incidence.
my phone does this too, but its on and off. Sometimes it does, others it doesnt. I really have no idea what could cause it.
Let me shed some light on this....if you are on H will less then 2 bars and theres an E with 3 bars or more and u get a call the phone will switch to E but once you hang up then its back on H. But if H has 3 bars or more when a call is received then I will stay on the H network and allow talk and data at the same time. Theres no hard ware issues trust me. Hspa is preferred but if there is a stronger signal then the phone switches. I hope that makes sense. You can not do data and talk together on E but you can on H.

Or, to put it in other words: when the phone is in a call, it'll hop to the "best sounding" base station, and if it would happen to be the old GSM/GPRS/EDGE base station - the data will drop. The missing bit is: once it drops - it isn't re-negotiated during the call, only after it. Thus, if the phone hops to EDGE base station even for a second during the call - you won't have data from this point and till the end of the call.
Perfectly normal behavior.

This is definitely not the case. I have tried multiple times with different signal strengths but it drops completely every time. I just did another test, I was on H at 3.47mbps with all full bars and as soon as i placed a call to my friend, the data dropped completely.

It's not about the bars you see, but the signal strength (and not only) your phone sees - which is way more complicated than just bars. Read my post above.
And it's not an opinion either, it's a fact. This is how cellular handoff/handover works. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertical_handover
Thanks for the replies and insight everyone. Now I know a little bit more about how that handover works heh.
In my case, most calls were made from my office building. Yesterday, when I posted, I had the newest radio and data would drop immediately as soon as the person answers my call (not a steady drop from 4g-3g-Edge, icon just disappears completely). At best, I was able to download a few apps during a call (which was downloading before the call was made) but as soon my screen locked and turned off - the data was gone on wake and wouldn't turn back on until after the call was finished.
Went through 4 different ROMS yesterday with about the same results but I have recently reflashed RoyalGinger again along with the stock radio thereafter and it seems to be holding during calls, even on my ride to work this morning. I know this is against what most people have said in this thread but maybe I just messed something up on my phone with the new radio? Guess I'll stick to this radio for now. Thanks again everybody.
Radio is the one responsible for determining the best possible connection, and flashing new radio might change things.
I'm in a good 3G/H coverage zone, with new radio, and just tested - the data remained on during the call in any conditions, screen off, screen on, wifi toggling - still worked.

When I'm on 4g and turn the screen off the data turns off, normally after an extended period, which its good for battery.

This has happened to me since I had my blackberry 9700. My experience has been that it loses all data (H/3G/E), even in good H/3G signal area and won't reconnect until I end the call. However the data loss only occurs while on a call. While not on a call, just surfing the net or using data any other way does not cause lost data connection nor a drop from H/3G to Edge. I saw somewhere on these forums that switching to H/3G only will prevent this from happening. I've tried this and it seemed to help, but I haven't been checking on every call.

Mobile Data will not enable!! (Dynamic Kat)

I need help this is driving me insane!
I've been running Dynamic Kat Rom for about 6 months or so now. Everything was working fine then all of a sudden a week or two ago I noticed my mobile data is not enabling at all.
I can only connect on Wifi and only receive SMS.
I've tried
- Messing will all the data/network settings
- Turning Mobile Data on and off -- no effect
- Toggling Airplane Mode on and off as suggested in some places
- Wiping everything but Data and reflashing latest ROM
- Reseating the SIM card
- several other things I forgot..
I do see the carrier information in the top left (AT&T) and I am getting signal bars.. but not indicator for 4G/LTE/etc
I've been messing with this for a week now and it's driving me insane.. I can't get a connection anywhere unless I'm on Wifi.
Anyone have any suggestions? I'm not super phone savvy, but willing to try any suggestions anyone may have.
Hmmm.. weird.
So I called AT&T and asked them about it.. figuring it could possibly be a carrier issue.
They told me to try things I had already done 100 times.. turn the phone off and on.. turn wifi off... etc.
I turned Wifi off... (which I had done 50,000 times before) and 4G popped up.
I guess they did something. So.. guess it's resolved.
Problem has returned.. same issue. I will have 4G signal for hours and then all of a sudden it will drop completely and I can't get a data signal no matter what I do.
I see AT&T in the corner and have signal bars, so I AM getting some kind of signal.. but no data connection whatsoever.
It seems completely random and intermittent.. I can have data signal for days with no issues then I will lose it for days.
Restarting the phone 5-20 times sometimes fixes it.. but that's about it. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?
Bad signal / carrier issue?
Call them and report a fault in your area?
I have called them multiple times, they will reset the signal.. sometimes it will come back right away, sometimes it wont.
And this happens regardless of where I am. I know for a fact where I am right now has a great signal strength. I get 4-5 bars on average. But this also happens at home as well about 20 miles away, which also has a good signal, or anywhere I go really it can happen. This isn't in the middle of nowhere either, it's smack in the middle of SoCal (LA/OC)
I'm beginning to think it may be a SIM card issue or a hardware issue with the phone. I'm going to try asking them to send me a new SIM card.
Another thing I will notice is when I have a working 4G LTE connection, and I'm on Wifi... it will sometimes CONSTANTLY switch back and forth between wifi and 4G like every 10 seconds, even when I have full signal strength on Wifi and 4G.
Disable Smart Network Switching in WiFi settings
it's nothing but a buggy headache, disabling might fix most of your problems, almost certainly the constant switching back and forth
Yeah forgot to mention I have disabled that. It's disabled now. It solves the constant switching back and forth (when I actually have a data connection), but that's kind of a separate issue as the losing data connection.
