Well the topic says it all.
I want to add a sound to the opening and/or closing of the keyboard.
Is this possible?
Thanks
Any hacks for this? I suppose that the opening of the keyboard calls some kind of an event (since sliding it open changes the screen orientation) So can this same event call be used to assign a sound as well?
I also want to kno this and was going to ask right before I came 2 see this link...so please answer!
There are some really talented people here. I would have thought someone would have done this by now. But I assume, from lack of info, that this hasn't been considered before?
Would someone, who has the skill set to do this, consider looking into it and seeing if it is possible?
Thanks a million!!
Have a good one
Try this thread.....
Cheers!
That thread refers to the Herald, or Tmobile Wing. I found this thread and thats all I've been able to find for the Wizard or Tmobile MDA.
There may be a registry key that needs to be modified/added after installing the HTC Sliding Sounds application to make it 'active' for the Wizard.
Any ideas?
Im trying to figure it out too.. I dunno how to get it to initiate...
Need someone with the Herald (T-Mobile Wing) to help
Under HKEY\LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\SlidingSound there are 2 keys 'ActiveSlidingSound' and 'SlidingSoundEffect', these are for setting which sound of the 3 available to use, I'm assuming.
Anyone out there know someone with a Herald or T-Mobile Wing that is willing to share what they have in this folder in their registry?? Maybe there's and EnableSound key or something to that effect that us Wizard users can add and we'll have a happy day!

I just checked mine and under SlidingSound, there are 3 folders... 0, 1, and 2. Each folder has 3 keys... Default, in, and out. "Default" is the name for the sounds (ex: Wind Chimes, Piano, and Xylophone), "in" is the location of the file used for when the keyboard slides in (ex: Slider0_in.wav), and the same applies to "out" for when the keyboard slides out (ex: Slider0_out.wav).
Also inside the SlidingSound folder are 2 more keys... ActiveSlidingSound and SlidingSoundEffect. ActiveSlidingSound refers to which sliding sound you want to use... so in this case it would be one of the 3 folders mentioned above (0,1, or 2). SlidingSoundEffect refers to whether or not you want the sliding sound on. (0 = off, 1 = on).
Hope this helps!
I installed the software that was made by JUVS....it does not work on my MDA.
Any other ideas? I had tried searching before I made this thread initially, and i had not seen the 2 that are discussed here. I apologize for having made a 3rd one.
Back on topic, I certainly hope this can be made to work. Any other ideas?
Thanks for all the info so far.
Later
this is a really cool idea, i would also like to know how to do it...

Thanks so much! This does help!
Unfortunately, I have the same keys on my MDA after installing the application for the SlidingSounds and it doesn't make sounds when I open the keyboard physically. I'm suspecting that the MDA is missing something, possibly a hardware switch (don't think so, though, cause it has to detect when the keyboard opens for landscape mode).
My guess is that this will not work on the MDA
Umfortunately I'm not a programmer, but I was thinking that the easiest way to get somethig like this to work would be to link the sound to play with the screen rotation instead of trying to get it to work when the keyboard is slid out which obviously isn't working anyway. It would play the sound if you rotated your screen manually, but I can't see why that would be a big deal. Maybe someone with a little programming knowledge could get this to work though.
I wanna keep this thread alive. SlidingSounds is something i wanna see work for wizards. It'll be cool if someone could craft a workaround or a new prog altogether.
Opening the keyboard is an event, shouldn't be hard to craft something to have it make a sound.
Any updates on this? I downloaded the app and it hasn't done anything, especially when messing with the registry. Thanks.
I've been working on tis as well but it seems that there is no way to adjust the registry to get it to work. I believe a app is gonna have to get the wizard to have this feature.
This would be so cool.. Alot of people have 'flip' style phones, and when they open them, they have some funny sounds. Would be great to have on the Wizard!
Anybody figured this out yet? I'm really sure it can be done.
im all about hacks for the wizard, but...
im assuming that you saw a wing and are trying to duplicate it...
WHY would you want it to do this?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!
same question for the menu pop sound?
those are the most annoying things i've seen on phone... well except for the default startup and shutdown sounds on all retail phones... when you turn off your phone, isnt because you're somewhere that you should be sure it wont be ringing/vibrating?
but on the other hand i still can't understand why people like to have the keys beep on their regular cell phones when they are txting...
sorry for the rant... i just don't get it

Maybe because we love the bells and whistles a gadget can make, it's all about your custom love that you want to have, not just everyone's universal preference. Some of us love to customize our phones to suit our personality, not just YOURS. Maybe these sounds grab attention of chicks, maybe this wallpaper makes us look cool in the sight of geeks. It's all personal prereference.
That's why I want keyboard Sliding Sounds to work. It's just one more thing that will grab the attention of people to see that, yes, I don't need a new phone every six months or so. I can make a new one using an old one by utilizing hacks.
hey just wanted to know if there is a palm sms threader for the touch? or does the one for the titan work?
There is one, search for: shogunmark_wm6_threaded
It works great
Here is the link, to save you the search time:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319899&highlight=Threaded+SMS
yea it does work pretty good but i think thats the one i had on the titan wasnt sure if it was gonna work on the touch thanks alot bro
hey i dont know if your having this problem but it doesnt notify me when i get a text like it tells me on the screen i got one but it doesnt make any sounds... is there a fix for this?
I use ringo, and it works fine for me, the volume is up i'm assuming?
if you didn't know this already, you have to specifically set a sound for the Palm Messaging App. try Start->Settings->Sounds & Notifications->Notifications Tab, scroll and select "Messaging: New Message (Palm)" and then select the sound you want to play when a text message received via the Palm app.
I used this same app on my Wizard way back and loved it. I couldn't live without it once I tried it. Last I heard it is supposed to be compatible with ALL WM6 devices so it should work fine with the Touch.
yea it works now i had to pick a sound for it lol i feel stupid now but now the other problem is that when i bring up the touch keyboard with the t9 it doesnt show me the words i could choose from... they stay at the bottom so i have to bring the keyboard up and down all the time... is there a way to fix that?

I don't think so, I wish there was.... I use the Full Screen Keyboard, once you start sending messages, you'll get used to not seeing the words....
i hope that we can custom the Keyboard to go up an 1 inch so we can see what we doing.
Thats what i asked in another thread...a automatic resize, like what it does in pocket ie, its not a big deal to me anymore, i'm used to it...
When getting rid of this app. It takes away the orginal Text Messages. Anyway to bring them back with out backing up phone?
Sms Thread
Guys, you should do a search for pocketCM. Is is really good and do a lot more than what you are looking for.
Well I have tried that. But cant seem to get it to work corectly on my HTC VOUGE
Ny only complaint to the threaded sms is not seeing what im typing. Loved it on my mogul though
MMS..does it work????
hey guys,
ive asked this in other threads but no reply. can someone tell me if this app allows you to use mms. according to the other threads, everybody is having problems sending and receiving mms. can we use this app solely for the threaded sms part and THEN USE ppcgeeks mms app. will that solve the trick??? plz let me know. i have a sprint touch. thanks alot guys!
currently using pocketcm v.18 also. is there any incompatiblity issues if use this threaded app as well????
i was just about to ask this, i need to find a solution to this!
Greetings,
Just received Shift X9500 today....so far, very nice!!!
As my last device was the lil' Fujitsu U810 which was very nice, but just a bit too small (keyboard & display) and before that an OQO E2, which was very nice, but really small, the Shift feels just right size-wize....
However, have a few questions, have taken a lot through this forum, but didn't see my questions covered, unless I missed it....
1) Chirping Sounds
After I turned on Shift and went through various startup screens, I heard periodically a sort of chirping set of sounds periodically for a few seconds at a time, then it went away for awhile, but then it would do this again periodically.
However, Shift did some sort of automatic install; Intel Graphic Driver7.14.10.1364, HTC Control Center and maybe some other items, but didn't watch display the whole time...
At some point Shift rebooted and since then chirping sounds have not reappeared....
So, just wondering if anyone knows what this sound was for? and if it comes back what should I do?
2) Software Solution Package
There's a small piece of paper that's titled "Downloading and Installing the Software Solution Package to the HTC Shift".
It says that this package has the latest drivers and apps in it...could this be what was being installed automatically when Shift first booted up to desktop??
If not, should I install this?
If so, where do I get it on the HTC e-Club site?
I registered and then checked on what's available for Shift. However, I could only find 2 files for downloading; a Vista Sidebar Hotfix and one other file (forget which one..), but that's all I see as available there for the Shift...
3) Windows Updates
Should I do a Windows Update now or do I need to install the package in question 2 above first or ???
Thanks in advance for any and all input!

Just thought I'd update this post a bit...
The only issue that really I'm wondering about still since my original post, is question number 1.
I still occasionally get some sort of series of sounds; maybe 'chirping sounds' was not the right description...more like a set of repeated sounds, somewhat like a muted phone ringing or something like that??
I don't have a SIM card installed in my Shift.
Could this be some sort of alarm notification??
Came on yesterday, when I thought Shift was shutdown....don't know how to shut it off when it happens, but finally went away after happening a few times...
Any ideas as to what to check to stop this???
Thanks!
Hi archimark,
is you chirping sound sound like some noise,or a regard system sound? If the sound comes from WM side, you should check the alarm setting, and maybe your appointments.
You can update using windows update, except for the touch drivers update, which are a kind of downgrade.
THANKS, thaihugo!

Thanks for your help, thaihugo!
Good question about that sound...hard for me to describe it in words, but is somewhere between a soft telephone or alarm sound, series of repeating, modulating tones, is best I can describe it.
Will check on WM side, but I haven't really used WM side at all.....
the sounds are likely from the WM side ... i usually get those sounds for notifications, new email allerts, etc... shift gives quite a few notifications etc if it feels ur connection is not configured properly etc.. hence these sounds.. do one thing:
Liberate ur shift and then from WM side mute all sounds .. then soft reset and see if u find any such sounds...

Thanks for the suggestion, studdocs, will give that a try and report back...would be great to get this solved!
Sounds a lot like the low-battery notification to me... that's when mine makes a kind of 'chirping' sound... if not that, it could be that sound used for something else...

Aha!....I'd wondered if that might be a possibility....
One thing I just remembered that I didn't mention before, is that when I hear the sounds, I also see the indicator lights pulsating below the display area located on the frame surrounding the display....
Does yours do that too???
Thanks!
that would definitly be a reminder on the WM side...
Does anyone know any good programs that do it? I'm looking for iphone style threaded text message app.
I've tried a few of them like smileysms etc, and pocketcm just doesn't seem to run well on my phone, or I just don't understand how to send replies, but I want easier access that it offers anyways.
What would be really sweet would be like a replacement for the deafult app.
Any ideas?
try flashin some of the roms bro
*sigh* I kinda of don't want to resort to that I mean I'm sure there's a whole world I haven't even explored with that option BUT.
I scored this phone for 90$ and I wouldn't trade it for any phone in the world (except for the htc touch series, anyone of them ahha)
But What is that? Like a whole new OS? A customs OS? Explain??????
Hello all, this is my first post. I have an HTC HD2 and am looking for something that i can customize my text alerts with...so that each of my contacts has their own alert. I've been told Ringo does that...but i feel that i should'nt have to pay for something the phone should already do. So,any suggestions? Thank you...

I really hate to say this but it is gonna take a 3rd party app to do this. I used to use inboxtones but have not used it in a while.
I wish there was a free app also. I came from a G1 and had Ringo, which was free. I did break down and pay for Ringo for my HD2 and it works great. Good luck.
thanks for the help guys. i'll try and find inboxtones. is there a way to try ringo out before you buy? thanks
Another option is phonealarm. Pretty expensive though but can do much more, e.g. customized tones for sms/email per person/group, repeating alarms, profile w/ auto-switching, etc.
