Hey everyone, well, ironically, I'm asking for help . I've wanted to create a AOSP ROM, but I can't find a guide on getting AOSP to the Sprint Hero. Is there a step by step guide for compiling it, with all the config files needed? Thanks, I really would appreciate it, and I'm sure you'll appreciate the future ROM's of mine too .

Uhh... I will literally scream if it's on google. I went through, so many pages googling it. I have compiled android before, yes. But not for the hero.
This is what i have been trying to make work.

Its only a peice of the puzzle. I havent been able to do much with it, I wasnt able to find where I needed to shove libcamera for our hw to get past an error.

what make errors have you been receiving. sometimes when you compile using that vendor tree some of the libs don't get pushed into the target.
I posted a "vendor overlay" ZIP for our CDMA hero elsewhere on this site (it's the LoX GSM hero overlay with edits for heroc plus some extra libs, etc, for 2.1), I was initially hoping for some feedback on it from some of the other devs. I was having the same issues darch mentions where some of the files don't copy over during the build so you just have to copy them into the target as the errors come up. Search my userID plus "vendor" and "voodoo" and it should come up.

you could do that to fix it... or we can fix the unzip scripts, because that is the root of all the problems in which the camera libs aren't making it to the target.
Btw, i'm gunna check out your vendor overlay. sounds like it'll help people compile cyanogenmod a bit more eaily.

I never investigated it very deeply. If you know it's the unzip step, that would be great to have it fixed. BTW, there two extract-files.sh in my overlay, one that pulls needed files from the device, and another that pulls them from a ROM (came in handy at one point). I'm still not clear about how much variability there is with libs, etc, from version to version, you would know better.
Finally, the kernel zImage included is just Toast's .29 that I built from scratch the day I posted the overlay. There's probably a newer version now...and I assume you can just package with your own boot.img anyway.

I'm proud to present a CyanogenMod Rom on the Eris, White Widow, ported from DarchDroid by Darchstar.
Cant shut me down
This is only a beta, and therefore has a few issues to work out. the main one is the boot. As of beta 3, you have to flash it over either a nand backup of 3.1 or the actual flash of 3.1. I am not allowed to distribute 3.1 anymore, so for those of you who didnt get it earlier im sorry, do not flash as it will bootloop your phone. also to those who do have 3.1, DO NOT WIPE! Wiping will also cause a bootloop.
To fix the no service bug, download the attatched zip, and exctact the build.prop to your sdk/tools
run these command to pop it back into place
Code:
adb remount
adb push build.prop /system
then reboot
Beta 3 Rereleased!
Limited Time Release, 4.0 beta3
Stripped down, very limited release. Just wanted to give you a small taste of what I've been working on. This is far from being the final release, but I promised a sneak peek. So far it is functioning and stable.
WORKING FB INTEGRATION
GPS
You must install googleshits to use anything than the other basic functions. Save the file to your SD card, boot to recovery and flash the googleshits .zip file like you would flash anything else. it is an update script.
For those interested in DarchStars new kernel with BrainFuck Scheduler- First Ever Release On Eris! -download and flash the update zip included at the bottom. No wipe needed.
I encourage you to look through the settings for all the new options, things like integrated wired tethering, setting custom messages on your lock screen, and 360 degree rotation are all under there, theres too many new things to post though so take a look and see what you find.

All,
per positive response below is a link to a copy of ivanmmj Eris_Official 1.0 ROM that I have fully deodexed. This is more meant for devs for continued play time, but it is a flashable ROM. PLEASE NOTE that ivanmmj himself looks to be coming out with the next version of Eris_Official 1.0 per his thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=652044.
Hope this is helpful and Enjoy
Link: REMOVED FROM HOST SERVER
P.S. please let me know of any issues as this is my first full deodex also I would like to encurage using this tread to exploring moding some of the system files on Eris ROM builds as it has been fun to tweak things
P.P.S. If you want the Zanfer kernel let me know and I will look at adding it in however ivanmmj's new version should have it...
what is Deodex?
I'm definitely interested, but I also think Ivan is working on the same project himself. I'm pretty sure his "1.1" is deodexed and has Zanfur's kernel. Not sure what other changes he has in mind, but you might want to check with him before posting since you'll end up being the one getting all the PM's from people wanting help. ;-)
Yes please I'm looking for exactly that

That would be awesome.
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
BTW jcase's plain jane1.0 has zanfur overclocking kernel.....
i dont know what you think but it might be a better platorm than ivanmmjs
a deodexed version of that would be tight....
kernels are easy to compile and swap out, a different kernel isnt going to influence the build at all
i always seem to get better battery life from the non oc'ed kernel.

it means you have a classes.dex file rather than a .odex file
it makes things easier, its also possible to metamorph these builds and its possible to install a deoexed app on multiple platforms.

A more experienced developer can add more but a few quick basics:
.odex files are precompiled class flies that correlate to a .apk or .jar file. In an odex ROM an .apk/.jar file will not function without it's correlated .odex.
a deodex build takes all of the .odex files converts them to a classes.dex and puts them into the .apk or .jar file package
deodex ROM are easier to mod because each .apk or .jar is a "complete" package and can be more easily decompiled and ported (i.e. you do not have to worry about the .odex files)
A deodexed build requires less space in /system, but more space in /data
A deodexed build requires a longer initial boot because they must regenerating those odex files from the dex files in the .apks/.jars and save them to /data/dalvik-cache
Thats a quick list of what I know
odex only help speed up app loading time and first time boot. Think of this as Windows' prefetch.
If you want to re-create odex for apk for porting, etc... I suggest only do this to /system/app not /data/app because when you do update from market and your app will break, unless you wipe out dalvik-cache.

Technically it is fine as an everyday ROM, however I do not recomend using it for such because it is not support and will have no additional features over ivanmmj origional 1.0.
So I guess, yes it meant to be used as a base ROM or "spare parts" for devs.

Someone else did this, on androidforums.com. I haven't replied to his posting, but it's in like page 19 of the 'show off your UI layout' thread there. I'm working on a modified Rosie.apk right now, as soon as I get this de-odex'd Ivan's on my phone running. Titanium backup here I come.
FYI, I was able to flash the deodexed version over the original Eris_Official 1.0 Alpha without having to do a full wipe (just wiped dalvik-cache). Naturally, I went back and re-flashed Zanfur's overclock kernel after that.
[ROMs][GPL] Tenzo's Stock "Plain" HTC 2.1 ROMs - 2.37.605.4 w/JulyOTA [10-01-10]
Many of my recent efforts have lead me to take a few steps back in discovering a few things (does that makes sense?). In working on fixes for 3GP Vanilla MMS and the 50% TWS "issue" I have put these together.
Should hopefully help others, especially those new to cooking that want an easy, trouble free base to start with (no "extra fonts" and no "updating" the JulyOTA manually).
EDIT: if you have "issues" with either wired or wireless tether, you can use the apk's attached below. (thanks Conap, bugger561, and T2Noob)

I have the same problem on Tenzo-Official2.1-JulyOTA-Root.
Why don't you just flash PlainJaneT2 which is total Stock with A2sd, and are able to enable JIT through a2sd with By typing "a2sd jit"
Everything works, on it is pretty fast for a HTC rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718092
Just wondering Why you made another rom thats already out there...
I didn't mean to take over the thread just curious what the difference between PlainJane and this.
Another question is if you tested wired tether?
Because if you just dropped it in the rom I CAN GUARANTEE that it is not working, thats why I didn't add it to the rom, And If you did get it to work can you tell me how you did it?
If you included SETCPU i suggest you take it off if you don't want to have problems with the SETCPU developer later in the future..... A Member has been kicked because he included apps that developers had told him to get rid of.
This has the newest build of 2.1 by HTC. And wired tether has been updated to work on the Eris and incredible. Plainjane, even though it is older than this and T2 is still better for those who do jot care about JIT or A2SD. I've tried both as well as this and jcase's Rom features the most free memory. I uninstall a lot of stock apps and then add maybe 25-30mb of market apps. Plainjane left new with 95+mb free. This and T2 leave me with roughly 70mb.

this is completely stock... no extra scripts, no extra fonts, no a2sd, etc. it's stock... with july OTA integrated and deodexed. that's all i did. can you point out where the other completely stock ROM with JulyOTA integrated is? If i missed it, i apologize. again... other than not trashing bootloader, recovery, etc, it's as "stock" as it gets. no symlinks changed in update-script, etc. again, this is the only stock ROM w/July OTA integrated that i've seen on the forum. did i miss something? (Official Obsession is close... but that requires you flash over the update. not easy for beginning cooks trying to customize a ROM... and it's not deodexed)
the "other" 2 ROMs are different as well... one is almost stock, with just latest ChainsDD superuser (root) added (no a2sd), with Conap's CFS kernel. the other is the same, with latest a2sd added (which allows the ability to add cache2cache as well).
i've enjoyed PlainJaneT2... and it is still my base for TT2.1. i've given full props to you with links and request even for donations in that thread. if i've upset you, again, i apologize.
also, no "extra" apps (setcpu, etc) are included... i know the rules
i'm not trying to "ruin" any experience for anyone... or step on anyone's toes. i'm just trying to help out and contribute. certainly have never tried to upset anyone on this forum EVER!

one thing you can do with a2sd 2.7.5.1 is run the cache on the cache partition.
adb remount
adb shell
a2sd cachepart
when it's done, it will reboot the ROM. pull the battery and clear dalvik (or else you'll get a few FC's when you reboot).
you can try the above with "a2sd cachepartreset" and it "should" clear dalvik for you... but it hasn't worked well for me

Why use this old 1.2 when the official 1.4 does it cleaner: http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/
Perfect timing on this! My lady is techologically challenged and having a ROM like this is perfect. She kept busting my bawls about not having teeter... Every time I installed it via an APK it would always FC after a bit.
Edit this was on a different rom, so far only issue I've had with this rom is a FC when trying to auto-update google maps.

this is completely stock... no extra scripts, no extra fonts, no a2sd, etc. it's stock... with july OTA integrated and deodexed. that's all i did. can you point out where the other completely stock ROM with JulyOTA integrated is?

Like I said I was just asking and playing devils advocate I was gone for a month a half so I have no Idea of what happened I'm just catching up. Take no offense to what I said I was just curious.
first post updated w/new Cache2Cache version
So I tried installing hex edited flash apk from the evo forums to see if it would work on the vibrant and either I'm installing it wrong or there is a vibrant specific one that I can't find...so does anyone know how to make the hex edited flash apk work for the vibrant or can you direct me to the correct apk? Thanks in advance.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
people were installing the evo version a while back (I actually have it on my phone) but it turned out not to work as full flash on the vibrant, (Theres a thread on it somewhere, I could find it for you if you like) it basically still is just flash light. (although a few people said it made flash not work at all) so in short, so far we still have to wait for Froyo unfortunately, there is as of yet, no full flash for the vibrant.
The apk looks for permissions that are only in froyo builds. You can flash one of Eugene's froyo roms and make it work though.
I tried using the files found at this link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8132408&postcount=1 I was only able to get the Hulu app running, but it won't launch in the browser. BTW, don't try flashing the HuluFix.zip file, as it's for the Evo. You will have to push the libraries through ADB with the instructions given. The problem, I believe, is the browser because it doesn't have the UA String setting.
