Possible to place a Folder on Home tab's program shortcut? - HD2 General

Hi
So far, I been able to place either a program, contact, or bookmark on the Home Tab's program launcher/shortcut.
Is it possible to place a folder there? So that when it is pressed, the folder is opened?
Thanks

browse to folder press and hold choose copy browse to windows/start menu/programs press and hold choose paste as shortcut. Now it appears when you assign an empty quicklink.

Thanks for your reply.
This is not what I was looking for
I am not looking for ways to create shortcut on the Start Menu.
In previous version of Manila's Program Tab, I can change the registery to place folder there. Now I tried to do the same thing, but I can't get it to work
HKLM -> Software-> HTC-> Manila-> Home
There are more things in there and the previous tweaks/changes I used doesn't work anymore
Please help!

Can I add a shortcut to Comms Manager to the Start/drop down menu?

Hi
Can I add a shortcut to Comms Manager to the Start/drop down menu?
I turn Wifi on and off a lot and it would be eaiser to use the menu.
Thanks
You need to open File Explorer and then in the menu select 'Show All Files'; better still use Total Commander, or Resco File Explorer
Navigate to My Device/Windows and find CommManager.exe; tap/hold it and select 'Copy'
Now navigate to Windows/Start Menu/Programs and select Menu/File/Copy Shortcut. This will place a link in Start/Programs. If you used Resco, the link will be called CommManager; if you use File Explorer, it will be called 'Shortcut to CommManager' which could do with shortening, so go back to Windows/Start Menu/Programs, find the 'Shortcut to..' entry, Tap/Hold it and select Rename.
Once the file is in Programs, you need to go to Start/Settings/Menu from where you can select a Checkbox for any file in Programs, which will then appear in the main Start dropdown, but be aware that you can only have a max of 7 entries, so you may need to disable one.
If you already have less than 7 entries, you can copy the shortcut directly into Windows/Start Menu, but if you have 7 or more, the operation will fail.
I use AE button plus to map wi-fi on/off toggle to a button. I also use wi-fi a lot and that saves me a lot of taps. (I map long press on one of the softkeys to do it and the other to toggle silent mode).
Thanks Neil.
All working!

Moving Programs

Hey All,
Does anyone know how to move default start menu icons such as Camera..
Just I think the start menu looks messy
Thanks in advance,
Crafty.
if you mean how to rearrange them inside the start menu, simply tap & hold on any icon, then depending on which rom you have, you can either tap on [move to top] or actually move the icon to a new position.
or.. if you mean how to move the icon to different start menu folder, use file explorer and navigate to /windows/start menu where you can cut & paste the icons jnto different folders. if your unable to see or move the icon link files, you can use total commander, which you can find by searching these forums.
hope this helps

Games

1. Enable Hidden Default Games
Go to the Windows directory and copy bubblebreaker.exe and solitaire.exe to the games folder as shortcuts in Windows\Start Menu. Make sure to unhide system files on the device to see the games listed.
How on earth do i do that? I went to FILE EXPLORER - WINDOWS but i am lost from there. Please help.
click menu -- show all files.find bubblebreaker.exe, press and hold, choose copy, then scroll up to the folder start menu, games, click menu - edit - paste.
It doesn't let you just paste though (at least mine doesn't).
You have to paste shortcut.

Please help me on this.
just paste the shortcut
just looked at this - open File Explorer and navigate to windows find the bubblebreaker.exe file and press/hold - at the bottom of the box that pops up is 'Send Shortcut to Programs' select this and you should now find a shortcut in the program list you get when selecting the icon in the top left corner of your home screen

The easiest way to do this is to use Resco explorer as it gives you the option to send a shortcut to the programs folder.
However as you have to pay for it I can understand why you might not want to so I had a look at trying it with the windows file explorer and here is how I did it.
Ok so in to the huge windows file and scrolled on down to BubbleBreaker and I've got 4 files with that name but only 2 have the BubbleBreaker icon. The first one is 46.0K in size and thats the .exe file we're after. The other one is just an .lnk shortcut file.
So long press on the .exe file brings up the edit menu. Select copy.
Now go up in the windows folder and in to the Folder named Start Menu, then in to Programs and finally in to Games.
Now if you give a long press on a clear bit of the screen avoiding other files you should have a menu come up giving you the option to Paste Shortcut.
Hit the button and all should be well.
Worked ok on my HD2, I'm running the standard WWE 1.66 Rom
P.S Don't forget to chose the option to show all files in explorer. Just click Menu then put a tick in the Show all files box.

START MENU Folders on the HTC Home screen shortcuts

Does anyone know or have some type of substitution for making shortcuts of folders on the HTC home screen.
For example instead of have a shortcut for a game I want the games folder that is in the start menu to be the HTC Home screen shortcut... Any know if this is possible? Thanks
why not just make a new folder in the startmenu\Programms folder and throw all game shortcuts in there?^^

I'm assuming you mean having a shortcut to the games folder as a home screen quicklink?
i tried this with Total Commander (TC) for example. Browse to:
\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Select 'Games' Folder
Then in TC: File/>>>>>/Create Shortcut
I created a shortcut for games in the tools folder:
\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Tools
I can then see it to add it via pressing on a empty quicklink, but I get an error when I try to use the shortcut.
error "Either not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of it's components cannot be found..."
Anyone have any ideas why it doesn't work?

This sounds it can go some where. hopefully some one can get this to work. i will test it a few different ways...see if i can get it to work.
I created a short cut to the games folder and just left it in the programs folder, works from a quick link no problems.
I used resco, press and held games folder, chose copy, press and held again and chose paste as shortcut. then went to home, clicked empty quick link, chose the games shortcut. quick link works fine.

Yep Resco works. Also try to rename it from "Shortcut with xy" to just "xy"

me too. i get the same think.
Guess I'll have t get resco explorer then. Wonder why TC fails?
Can you only create shorcuts in folders? Becuase I tried moving the actual (original icon) shortcut into the Games/Multimedia/Tools folder, and now when I try to open the shortcut it gives me:
"The file "file name" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of it's components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."
EDIT: Nvm, this was because I had it installed on my SD card, and the usb was plugded in while I was trying to run the program.

Quick Link to a File - Is It Possible?

I have several excel files that i use frequently enough to make this very helpful indeed. Also, is it possible to customize the text and/or the icon used for the file in addition?
assuming using built in file manager...
press and hold the file, choose copy, browse to windows/start menu press and hold, choose paste as shortcut. now you can assign it to a quicklink.
as for the icon, not sure, maybe hand edit the link file and reference the icon there,, or if you browse to
hklm software htc manila home
find the numbered key your link is in and play with the icon reference there.
i don't bother with icons, sorry.
