that would specifically work with rungps, but not because you use gpsmoddriver... only because rungps has that specific function.
I was looking fomr something like this as well, I'd like navicomputer, nonigpsplot, tomtom and whatever to access a working gps even if the display is off.
In other words, something like keeping the wifi on during standby... is that possible?

I get several hits for gpslite in a search... could you please point me to the correct one?
From what I understand, you're talking about having another application running that keeps the gps on by itself, and taking advantage of it to also run other gps apps?
That would be a workaround, but it would still require more cpu because there's another app running, and hence more battery drain

I didn't because I didn't do anything yet
But if rungps has the capability to turn screen off while keeping gps on, yo could take advantage of it, e.g. install rungps and run it just for the sake of it, then run your favourite gps program as well, then switch back to rungps and let it turn off the screen, your fav gps program should also be running in background accessing the working gps
Ugly IMO as you need to leave open a program that drains more battery, I'd prefer having a clean way to leave GPS on when needed.

Hi All,
We have a new version of an application, which is now available on beta and would greatly appreciate it if any of you have time to participate in the trial and provide me with feedback on whether the software works or not on your device.
In simple terms the new version of the application allows you to broadcast both an image stream and GPS data which can be viewed either in real-time or later via the Live Media Web application
Here's a quick video introduction to the software

This is really good app and is very promising. I have been testing for phil for a while on this. Yes it can put quite a drain on the battery, however when im driving i have it plugged into the charger so as long as i stay topped off then it does alright.

i had experienced this before with some of dutty's roms, if the .net isnt cooked into the rom correctly then it throws major errors like that. try re-installing netcf and see if that cures your problems!
*i will note that on some cooked roms re-installing netcf doesnt help because of the way it was cooked in.

Mogul on Sprint
I've had a couple of reported problems about running the app on the Sprint Mogul, if anybody has sucessfully (or otherwise) run the app on a Sprint mogul it would be helpful to know if this is generic problem or not.
Many thanks

I have a mogul and it seems to work flawlessly. I was able to broadcast two separate feeds with gps.
Does this software work with WiFi, and cache the images & GPS coordinates, for upload at a later date?
I dont have an unliminated data plan, and uploading multiple images would require me to take out a loan
Cheers, Mike.
EDIT:
I've just gave this a try with WiFi, and it seems to work well.
GPS shows me moving from my office to my lounge, very freaky, very accurate
Just the question about the cache left.
I guess since it does "broadcasting" then it probably cant (yet?) cache the video and GPS data?
Cheers, Mike.

I am getting the same error when i try to do a broadcast. I am running "[Apr 16] Dutty's WM6.1 5.2.19209 Release [User Guide & ChangeLog in Post 2] UPDATED" which has 3.5 installed already. I tried re-installing netcf 3.5 and i get an error about memory and closing applications, to restart phone and try to re-install. I tried that and got the same exact error. So i re-flashed with Dutty's rom, as listed above, but tried installing netcf from the get go and got the same exact error. Anyone have any ideas???
Would it also be possible to have an option to enable the flash?
The camera flash light on my device is only half decent, but having it on would be a great option.

Sorry, the software isn't linked in to other IM systems at the moment. Only other Live Media users can access your broadcasts, because they need the Live Media client to be able to see what you are broadcasting.

Hi Phil,
Yeah, shortly after posting that question I messed around with it a little bit and made a test name. Everything is working great now.
Now, anyway of making the feed fullscreen on computer?
Version Update
There is now an updated version available, with some of your feature requests in.
Record Mode
Allows you record your broadcasts with GPS offline and upload them later.
On the Broadcaster's setting screen there is a new item "Live broadcast" - tap/select and the Broadcast menu option changes to Record.
If you have a storage card, then the files are saved to the livemedia folder, otherwise under \\appData\livemedia.
On the website, login and under My Broadcasts is a new link to upload your broadcasts.
Please note this is only applicable for GPS enabled broadcasts.
Disable sending speed data
On the GPS enable/disable screen there is a new menu item called "Include speed" uncheck so speed data is not recorded.
Check for updates
From the main menu this can now be used to check for and download furture version updates.

Geo-tagging photos

Does anyone geo-tag their HD photos? I can't find a way to enable it in camera settings.
I had to download an app to enable it on my TyTNII.
Can't find anything by searching this forum or Googling
You can enable it with HDTweak, as far as i remember
Brilliant! Thanks
I have enabled the option in HD Tweak, and have even tried Shozu and locr, but even with a GPS lock, it doesn't seem to save the GPS data to the photo.
I'm using the Orange ROM, and don't really want to reflash it just to make this work with the hacked footprints tab, so has anyone got any ideas?
TIA
My problem is GPS doesn't start.
I've been using the free GPSToday (www.geoterrestrial.com) and their GeoTagger plugin which monitors your photo directory. When it sees a new file it tries to get a GPS fix and then embeds the location in the file. So far it's worked flawlessly.
Can you try uploading one of the photos it's tagged too google picasa to see if it can see the gps data and map the piccy please?
So far, these things tell me they are tagging them, but when you upload them, it's not tagged.
locr and shozu both work flawlessly on my N95, so I know the platforms and google picasa work.
I attached a GPS photo taken with my HD (bike trip with my girlfriend ) with the 'GPS-photo' option. I'm absolutly sure it has GPS info in it, because I upload all my pictures to Flickr, where they automaticly show up on the map at the right location. Good luck
*EDIT* When uploading a photo as attacment to the XDA forum, all GPS data is stripped. So here's a direct link to download the original file:
http://www.fittingmedia.nl/divers/GPS_011.jpg
Just tried uploading one of my photos tagged with GPSToday to PicasaWeb and it's recognised the GPS data perfectly. Here's the photo
http://picasaweb.google.com/apcd2apcd2/Desktop?authkey=Gv1sRgCLr5tdy08-bb9wE&feat=directlink
Very simple but you have to edit the registry.
go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Camera\P10
and set the value of "Enable" to 1
Thank you'll find a new camera mode in the standard HTC camera program that is "GPS". It activates and deactivates the GPS automatically.
Enjoy
Do you guys want to have gps info on all photos or what? I didn't get the point.
Touch HD Camera has a "GPS Photo" mode..which can be selected manually by going in to "advance" options in the "camera mode" .
right clicking on the image on windowsXP and checking the image property doesn't show the GPS info..but if opened with any other viewer..XNview..lightroom..photoshop.. in EXIF data u can see the GPS info.
so please tell me whats the point of using tweakers to enable GPS tagging? or i'm missing somethig

Not on some stock ROM images, such as mine.
I personally choose to use it because when I share photos online, with things such as Picasa Web, it shows people on a map where the pictures were taken.
No real serious use for me, but it's a little more info for people, and you can also view public galleries and it will display all pictures taken in a certain area.
EDIT: OK I found the option, everywhere I looked and in PM's people were telling me to look in advanced settings for this, it's actually an option on the 2nd page of "Capture Mode" and not in settings, or an advanced tab at all. No wonder I couldn't see it lol.

How long does it take for you to take a photo this way? Mine just says "starting gps" and nothing happens. I even tried waiting 3-4 minutes, the time it takes Garmin XT Mobile to get the gps signal here, but nothing.

It takes about 10 to 30 seconds, depending on where I'm standing. It indeed should take about the same time as Garmin.
But 3 to 4 minutes is a LONG time for any GPS app to get a fix... If you get that working right, GPS-Photo will probably work fine too.

- Well, offcourse the obvious. Try it outside, with no high buildings etc. around you and that sort of things.
- Then, try to update QuickGPS with new satelite info (makes a lot of difference).
- DISABLE AGps. Does more harm then good.
- Maybe try a different radio. I'm using 1.12 and get very quick GPS fixes. Faster then 1.9 and 1.10.
Let us know how it turns out!
Anyone know any thing new on any effort to port Footprints to Blackstone? all posts are a bit old. there's a standalone that sorta works on Blackstone but the resolution is wrong so text is misaligned and its not very usable. anyone made any headway at porting it to a tab or at least a usable standalone? It would REALLY rock if anyone could port it to an manila v3 tab!!! i'd donate for the effort. sure many would!

I can't do that cause i still don't know how to backup the original radio. I would like to backup everything i need for warranty sake. I posted a thread here, but got no answers. I did all you said, and nothing helped. However, i did notice this - i started Garmin, got a lock in a matter of seconds (after i did the fast GPS thing, so i'm guessing Garmin is using that), turned it off and geotagging worked instantly. So, i'm guessing camera has a problem using quick GPS or starting GPS by itself. Any ideas on this?

GPS Photo/Footprint

After owning my Jade for 4 months I've just found the GPS Photo feature!
I tried using it and after the GPS receiver switched on, I took a couple of photos. I can't see any difference to the regular pics. I see that a new folder called My POI has been created within My Documents on the SD card and the pictures are there but they are just JPEG files, without any GPS information that I can see. If I open the photo and click Properties it just gives the usual info Size, Date etc.
Am I missing something and how different is this to the Footprint app now available elsewhere on the forum?
Thanks,
Woolly.

iPAQ 614 - Using "flash" as light - Create a possible Titanium plugin?

One of the "accidental" features of our phone is that the camera "flash" can be used as a GREAT flashlight when you're out in the dark. I probably use it once or twice a week, and I am sure I am not the only one. I was wondering however, if it might be possible to enable the LED without opening up the camera program.
Since I have winmo 6.5 installed, I was thinking about maybe taking advantage of the Titanium plugins, or perhaps even a mortscript application to make the flashlight a homescreen option. I'm new to phone modding, but I have coding experience so it shouldn't be too hard for me to figure out.
If this seems possible, I am willing to put in the effort of making it, but I'd like to know if it seems doable before I start coding or anything.
Thanks in advance.
hi all,
i use the flash as light like you.
one year ago i tryed to find an API to write a little application to poweron/poweroff the camera flash led but without success.
can anyone share with us some experience about this?
in alternative you can use an application called plamp that use the screen like a camera flash led. it is not the same but it is useful, also configuring an hardware button.
regards, Soldato
i used to use a mortscript that would launch teh camera then turn on the flash after 10 seconds it will auto close the camera app.
only down side was that the camera app would take about 10 seconds to load anyway (for my phone) so it was not a instant flash light.

Yeah that's part of the reason I would like to just skip the camera app altogether. It would be nice to have the light on quickly and not have the camera on.

hi @ all!
I'm also very interested in an app like that.
Unfortunately I'm not experienced in coding for PPCs. So my question:
Was there any success or found a solution?
Thx a lot!

The method to control the camera flash is device specific. At this moment, no one know how to control the ipaq 612 flash light

Indeed. I'd love to know what sort of things I have to look at to get this started, but I really don't know where to start. Anyone who's made this for another phone: point me in the right direction?

Basically, the camera flash can be controlled in this way:
Use CreateFile() to get the Camera handle :-
CreateFile( _T("CAM1:") ....... )
then, use DeviceIoControl() to send command, this is the most important step, I don't know how to fill the InBuffer in order to turn the flash on.

wassup thebest1. just to let you know, i got an unmodded, stock 6.5 hd2. i got a questions please. will removing startup items increase batt life and performance?
Only knowns issues by removing it are some apps that i notice. For instance holding the power button for 3 sec quicklist (Shutdown)app will appear. Now if you remove the apps from startup folder, holding the power button for 3 sec it will take about 6-7 sec for the quicklist app to appear. Same goes with Comm Manager, it will open automaticall. But by removing the apps from startup application it will take about 6-7 sec for Comm Manager to open. I replace those 2 apps with psshutxp and cookies home tab. I hope this helps.

so in other words, removing these startup items wont affect batt life or perforrnance. just that some programs will start a few secs longer.
Thats Correct. It will not affect battery life or performance.
I could be wrong but I think taking things off of your Start up has bound to help some. I mean for one when you first boot up hour device it uses the start up to know what programs it is suppose to initialize and start up and let continue to run in the background. So it would help a small bit by your device not having to start so much up and taking less time to boot. After all boot up is when your device has some of it's highest power consumtion. Also the less things running in the background the less the processor has to work and the less power consumption the device has. This is why turning HTC Sense off helps save battery because even though you canxsee it on the home screen. It is still a programthat is running in the background cause it is not part of the actual Windows OS but a theme or graphic UI for the device, now granted HTC Sense is one of the biggest power consuming programs compared to others. But thos is because HTC Sense recquires alot of,memory and resources of the device where most other programs don't. Remember I am only using HTC Sense as an example.
When you take the programs off of start up they take longer to come up because the have to cold start as to hot start if the are in start up. Cold start means it has to initialilize or started up before it can open. Hot start means it is already initialized or started ip and can just open.

This has to do with your Bluetooth on your HD2, I am not sure but I think it is the program that actually runs the Bluetooth on your HD2. I Highlyb suggest not messing with it as you possible may regret it, I have read threads of people having troubles with BBTrayCe.exe not working or giving errors. So to be safe I would not mess with it.

This is something else I suggest you do not mess with as this is also something kind of vital to your HD2 working right while running Windows Mobile. It activates such things like the G-Sensor, the volume controls, USB detect5ion, and etc. So you can why you ewould not want to mess with this.- Instant Forward

This is the .exe that starts up the screen lock program, and the security lock program (if you use it) on your HD2, if you don't use or want either of these you can remove it and nothing bad should happen, except you would probably have to manually lock \disable the screen if you wanted the display to stay on all the time.

I think tjhis is a program that allows auto run programs like .cab files to run when you click on them. There is other file types it allows to run also but I just used .cab as an example as I know most people know what they are.

This enables your Outlook functions in Windows Mobile. That is the easiest way to put it.

This .exe has to do with starting ActiveSync and all the syncing capobilities it has this includes your Outlook services too

I am not positive but I think it has to do with getting instant messages from messenger programs like yahoo, MSN, Google, and etc.

No you can not use any androidapps with Windows Mobile at all. Now if it is a Windows Mobile version of the app then yes you can use it bitcthe Windows Mobileversion will probably not be quit as good as the Android.
