Yeah this needs to happen. I'm so sick of looking at sprint nascar and other crap loaded on this. it's like getting a new laptop with bloatware and not being able to scrub it.

Shouldnt this thread get moved to the CDMA section?
Sorry for being a 'troll'
Keep asking everyday.
Wooooaaaaahhhhhh...
I read this forum almost everyday. I read it because I am excited to see what's going on. I enjoy being 'right there' on the latest news. Quite honestly, everyone who visits this forum should be excited to see this phone get 'rooted.' This makes it customizable to our liking and not what HTC/Sprint likes for us.
I use Sprint Navigation, but that's about it. My real point being that I love XDA, PPCGeeks and all these other communities because they are as excited as I am, typically. People are posting because they want to know how its progressing and how the process is done. I know I would be interested in learning about rooting, cooking, so on and so forth. It's interested watching these pro's and noob's alike come together on this new challenge.
Not to mention we got our first CDMA sub-forum that I've seen on this site. It must mean we have a spot here and that the Hero will be rooted and mods/themes will be available. Not to mention that it could be assumed that things will move faster on our device than others simply because the GSM version is already rooted, along with other Android devices.
If you don't like what's cookin', get outta the kitchen...

This is getting out of control. The phone has only been out for 3 WEEKS!!!!! (GSM doesn't count) Everyone including myself wants the Sprint ware off. But in reality its not in our way. I don't think anyone working on it is going to answer in fear of being annoyed to death. As time draws near I'M SURE THERE WILL BE A THREAD 'I almost replaced the boot loader on the CDMA hero' Or do you honestly think we are being intentionally left in the dark? I'm pretty sure no HTC device was able to be flash after week 3. I'm also pretty sure reverse engineering a boot loader takes some time and quality control. But go ahead rush this process.
What if it takes a YEAR or not at all?
Are we going to continue to see daily posts?
Will this madness ever end? Are people capable of enjoying a great phone without flashing it?
I love how 'Bump' has been replaced with 'I subscribed'

Bro you are way off base, the original poster probably came to the forums seen the CDMA sup forum for the hero then created a post asking for updates. Not a big deal really.
And in the original posters message he was asking if people needed help so if an offer to help is rushing the process then I for one am all for that.

dude.. are you serious? now i have been doing the forum thing for years now. Usually an observer. And I guess I do see my share of post of people getting mad for other enthused people asking questions about progress on certain things. But congratulations! You earned my response, and not many have. I just need to say chillax! Go troll somewhere else. You are worst then the people who ask idiotic questions (not that this thread is one at all)
p.s. Sorry everyone for wasting your time with this nonsense. I don't make it a habit.
SoLo
K before u flame me. or say search or whatever..this is just an idea I had and though I would post and see how people felt bout it.
since most devs and theme makers left for the evo..things are slowing down on the hero front..
My idea is lets find out who is staying etc..( devs and themers ) and work on a single rom that will make all others ( evo nexus etc ) jealous or envy our hero..etc.. this might be a pipe dream.. but i figured wth right..with so many of of left im sure we could scrape together and find a happy medium on a single rom that we all will like to use etc..
the thing is we have so many nice roms to choose from.. but have to search hi and low to find what will work with them etc..
or maybe clean up the area so to speak and have what roms work with what themes and such..
I just hate that the hero will be a thing of the past before its time..
maybe we can work together pic one rom..or two..and and just work on those and theme for for them..etc..
I mean does that make sense? If we let it go it will fragment etc..and we will lose touch etc..
So who likes this idea? or better yet who has some suggestions related etc..
I just dont want the hero section to die..when u have smartphones like the vogue and tp/diamond tp2 etc still being dev'd on and such..
What do u guys think!!! and please be nice.. lol just trying to help and get us remaining hero peps to unite..
I'm not a dev, nor a themer, but if I could get myself into learning how to theme, then I'm down. I visit this site several times a day, and admire all the awesome work that everyone has done, maybe answer a few questions that I can answer, etc.
I've had my Hero since January, and stumbled to this site sometime in late March and I've been hooked since. My dad just bought the EVO, so I've been following the EVO threads, but I still have my Hero roots.
Having one solid thing is the way of the iPhone. I beleive that fragmentation is actually helping Android, solely because there are so many different things to choose from.
Think about it, most people are just going to see it as
"Oh, the Hero only has one ROM, but then Evo has six"
People are still coming in and asking "Does X work in this ROM" "What ROM is the best ROM" and all that nonsense (Pun intended).
TL;DR people rarely read the first post.
Darkstone has a lot of bad news for us. The genius is leaving us for university and now he lost his files and his HD2. Let us get up in arms and donate to replace the genius' HD2.
OOPs! Is it against the rules of the forum?
Whoa! I really appreciate the thoughtfulness but this really isn't necessary!
I sold the HD2, it's no longer in my possession, I didn't lose it xD
I'm always keeping my eye on this forum though
And my files were lost because I got a new laptop and didn't backup the files on my old laptop before selling it
If anyone wants to donate, I highly recommend donating to the developers of the HD2 kernel!
Thanks anyway though
don know y peeps wants to make money out of this site....every devs r retiring becuz they wants to make money,,,bottom line
building a build not of a big deal but the main ingredient for hd2 on android is the haret or kernel or magdlr that made possible by cottula
Which build do you recommend to use except yours darkstone? Mdeejay ?
Is HTC Desire still the best source and will it continue to be so for the unforseen future?
(I heard you have plans of a converter, but I'd like an optimized build with user community)
Thanks btw, been enjoying your builds since day 1!
the main ingredient for ignorant trolls are ignoring and trolling. Why wont you contribute if it's so easy. It's team work that matters, not the individual apps and modules that you mentioned.
No wonder you are a Yankee, you egocentric pessimistic airhead. Because of people like you is the real reason why Devs prefer to make Paid apps instead.

Well, if it's not a big deal where is the link to your own build? Time is money. If the dev wastes his time to give us a cause to brag about our HD2 why is it wrong for him/her to expect support from the users who can appreciate his/her genius? You expect a dev to spend a whole day torturing his brain cells to write codes while he is feeding his belly with air?
I am not a developer. I just love technology and i am just amazed by it and those talents behind it. Take the time to appreciate the magic of what seems trivial like sending a picture wireless to a computer. That is priceless!
When I win the lottery I'll have a special fund set up just for those enthusiastic devs working for free.
Be satisfied in everchanging world
Guys,
All developers have done a great job. I am one of non-developers enjoying builds from various developers starting magician. HD2 was alone last year with hardware capabilities it has. Following recent releases of newer phone with similar or even better hardware with native android support from HTC, requirements of HD2 based android will go down and interest from developers will shift to develop based on new hardware..
Whatever developers have given so far was also beyond thoughts last year. So, I am happy and satisafied with what we have today on this forum. May be some developers are still developeing further. How far we can go? may be sucess in using fully developed Desire HD on HD2 ? Anything beyond that would be not worth waiting without returns. Develpers are entitled to earn something why not!!
Sorry for anything I may have mentioned hurting anybody. Sorry for that.
AS
without dev's hard work and effort, there is no way that your hd2 can perform so well! Originally its just so normal and not much to play with... See now, our hd2 can perform so well and even using android, i'm grateful for all their great efforts.
Fundraising? Count me in!

As DarkStone1337 said, he did not lose the phone - he willingly sold it.
I'll close this thread for now, as it would appear it was started solely to solicit donations, despite them not being aware of this.
Please don't discount me as some ignorant noob despite my fairly low profile account.
I actually used to have an HTC Touch Pro 2 and used to flash custom ROMs like it was my job but once I got an EVO I decided against it because I didn't really have any complaints with the stock system. Until now of course.
I accepted the OTA update over the air without really knowing what it was. So I decided to go online and research what was actually included in the update and after doing some XDA searching was quickly refreshed on the joys of flashing customs. In the painful irony of it all, I quickly realized that by accepting the update I had screwed myself into some custom flashing purgatory where I suffer from that "itch" for a new custom ROM that we all know.
Anyways, long story short, I was wondering if there was any type of sticky/thread that is continuously updated on the progress of a 2.3.3 exploit or maybe the progress of the unrevoked team so that when I search for that sense of hope multiple times a day I can simply check one location. I did some searching for such a thread but returned no results.
Thanks in advance and hats off to the devs for all that they do.
damn....that sux that you had no complaints until AFTER the OTA update. thats definitely a bad stroke of luck.
I would say, in the mean time, try out different home launchers to try to get the different feel for them (i.e. if it's the Sense launcher that's bugging you, change it up ) I like both LPP (LauncherPro Plus) and ADW...tho I prefer LPP
and to answer the main question: No...there isnt a sticky or thread discussing the progress of the root exploit.

hopefully the devs will get the exploit out soon so 1)we stop getting the threads demanding the exploit (im not saying this is one of them...just saying that there have been 1 too many of those threads as of late) 2) so that you can start experiencing that "itch" again
I personally will take the OTA and then reroot after the exploit is out so that I'll know how to help others
Progress won't be mentioned until the actual exploit is found, so there's no need to search for a progress report. Until the exploit is found, the progress would be "nothing yet"... so that's pointless to post. As soon as a root method is made, you won't have to search for it. Go to the Evo Q&A section and you'll see questions about it - you'll see discussion & celebration in the General section. You'll probably see the root method itself (unless it's Unrevoked) in the Development section. You won't have to go past the first page to know it's here.
That being said, there's no need for a sticky. And unless you're trying to build a root method yourself, no need to search.
People have to realize that these devs do this in their free time, for free. It bothers me that people that have never given these devs anything expect the new root method now. I'm not talking about you, but so many others come here whining about nobody telling them when it will be ready or about nobody rooting it yet, as if they're owed something. If I had the skills to find a root exploit, I would stop working on it because of these kids *****ing and moaning.
Again, I'm not talking about you... I'm just ranting.
I agree completely. I found it funny that you guys call these guys "trolls." It's perfect. On the PPCGeeks forums back when I was flashing for my HTC Diamond we just called them douchebags but I like trolls, it's clever.
I also wish I had the skills to discover the exploit. I would love to give back to the community. It's all a little over my head though. I'm just another guy reaping the benefits of those generous enough to provide a more enjoyable experience from our devices and liberation from the corporate *cough* horsesh;t.

The HTC Diamond is like 3 or 4 years old by now. These days that's an eternity. I tried using my old diamond for a week or so a couple of months ago, and while I still love the size and form factor, I can't stand the lag factor. The os of windows mobile doesn't bother me, but the lack of power sure does.

I wouldn't consider myself old school at all but I would say I have experience. I was flashing for about 2 or 3 years with a combination of the Diamond and TP2.
I'm not crediting myself with any kind of "elderly knowledge" if that's what your concerned about. Some newbs probably know more than me definitely with the Evo being a different OS altogether.
And yes, I loved the phone but the lag was unbearable.
Mod Edit: This thread is not how to properly appeal a decision. Learn some respect, and take a gander at this post. First, and only, warning to all involved in this thread.
Love his ROMs.

This thread is just to let people know whats going on with the "higher ups" of XDA. Hope a few people get to see this anyways before either its gone, Im gone, or both!!!

not sure what the issue is, did he ask to have the recognized developer status or just doesn't have it yet?
I've seen quite a few copy and pasters throw roms together from other people's work (direct porting with our boot image and build prop tweaks, swapping apns, libs and eri's etc., even I can do that and will never claim to be a developer), or just compile straight from cm source and they have the recognized developer status... I was under the impression that it wasn't that hard to get....?
That said, I haven't used his roms, but I hear good things and I'm not sure why he wouldn't be worthy of the developer status
He asked and was denied
moderators are few and especially in this section. I wouldn't be surprised if they stayed up for days.
I support Nils and all his work. He's a great guy and an excellent developer, I don't see how they could not recognize him with the rest of the developers when he has done so much in this community.
I have been as impressed with his work about as much as anyone else's. I would love to know the details behind that decision being made.

YOUR FONT IS TOO SMALL
I agree 100%. This is crap.
re
I 100% agree that this is crap.
If I'm not mistaken Nil's has been the only DEV supporting this phone since the beginning.I know personally that he answers questions and shares information. So hopefully the powers that be will reconsider.
no, lets give all the credit to AOSP developers and people who throw crap together from other roms and claim "it's a tottaly new rom! " this is f'ing stupid, XDA.
At this point it would be my guess that you have to make or be a part of a breakthrough of some sort in order to be recognized. A stable rom isn't exactly something that people can be recognized for because all the copy-and-pasters screwed that up for everyone. There's no telling what belongs to who in a ROM so why give people props for it when there's so much going on as far as people just taking stuff.
If I were looking to be recognized I'd do something innovative... Get WP7 on here, make a live wallpaper that has the camera active so its like were looking through our phone, etc etc. Most recognized developers develop for more than one phone so crank out something that the EVO and Desire can use as well as us... Things like that.
That's the only logic I can follow as far as why he was denied.

Being innovative has nothing to do with being a recognised dev. it's just being that, recognised for what you have done. it's about contributions and being helpful. not who's done the most awesome rom, mod or app. it's not a super dev contest... if that were the case, easily more than half of the recognised devs would not be recognized because they are drag and drop devs with no programing skills. just swap and remove files from one rom to another and call it their rom.
to be more exact to the terms of being a RD, here are the actual requirements...
-Be a developer that regularly posts your work/works on XDA
-Post helpful threads in the general section
-Regularly help answer questions in the Q&A Sections
-Not be found guilty of flaming
-And of course, feel out the Recognized Developer of XDA request form(When available which it currently is not at this time).
If you know Nils or have dealt with him in any way, you know he meets most if not all these requirements.
Well said Stoney!

How exactly does one feel out the form? lol. Sorry trolling, but I had to.
If you go by the definition you stated, then most rom builders would fit the bill. I have seen huge support by most devs on this forum. It sounds tho, that there is more to this than we know.
