Full Backup? - HD2 General

Is there a way to do a complete full back up of settings, etc, with the HD2? like on a blackberry?
Thanks in advance

I use SPB backup

Backup
Does this backup the registry also? I have made changes to the T-Mobile Stock ROM that required reg changes but I want to test out one of the Custom ROMS but if I go back to T-Mo Stock I would like for it to be as I left it and not start over.
Thanks,

SPB backs up EVERYTHING... when I flash a rom ill do an spb backup first and if I have to go back it puts it back the exact way it was I flashed.

Thanks,
Cool, that is what I want to hear. I don't mind reinstalling when I am working on a new ROM but if I have to fallback I would prefer for it to be ready to go.

does SPB also back up favorites?

Yeah, SPB Backup is an excellent bit of software. Definitely worth the money.
I would also suggest, PIM Backup/Restore, and Sprite Backup...
Just be sure you read all of the primary functions before tampering with any of the system files for backup.

Backing up bits of my phone?

Hi all. I'm about to do the US T-Mobile 2.26 ROM upgrade (I'm still on 1.6.2.4 WWE). I'm generally kind of cautious about this kind of stuff, so I have a couple of questions about backing up.
1. Is it possible to backup my txt messages? I remember there being a paid program that will sync them with your Outlook (though I can't find it right now), but all I really want is to back them up once, then restore them after the upgrade.
2. Is there a way to take a snapshot backup of my device? I know that I can't just restore all my programs onto the new ROM. My goal is that if for some reason I have to roll back to the previous ROM, I can then simply restore my backup and be up and running again quickly.
Thanks!
the program your looking for is here

Actually, if you use the new version of Sprite Backup, it has a special upgrade mode where you can restore all your apps and stuff! How cool is that? 8)
Google Sprite Backup.
It will do a full backup on your device in udner 2 minutes, then should you need to restore, you can do a full restore, or choose what things you want restored.
Very handy... the other night I goofed up my registry. I did a restore just on the registry and was good to go. Definately saved me from hours of work. 8)
Thanks for the tips guys. I've bought Sprite, it seems like it will do what I need. Hopefully I'll be doing the upgrade tomorrow as I'm working all day today.
Thanks!

Completly Backup Devce ???

Just flashed a new rom to my htc p3300
and would like to know if theres a way to backup the
phone complete with rom and programs,
Want to try this before trying another rom
Sure u can...
Try Sprite Backup or SPB backup....they take back-up of everything including programs... some times after restoere some programs might not work... and do not try restoring back-up created in one ROM on a different one...
cheers
Use Sprite Backup...
With Sprite Backup you can check if you want to backup or restore the ROM. If you backup using one ROM, you can choose to restore everything but the ROM once you have installed a new one. Sometimes certain apps won't work on the newer ROM, like going from WM5 to WM6, but you can just delete those programs afterwards. The program is not free, but IMHO, it is worth every penny! It has saved my butt on more than one occasion!
Not sure Im getting this,
I want to try some more roms but I would like to backup the
one I'm using as I've spent some time tweaking it and adding programs and may elect to go back to it in the future and dont want the hassle of setting it up again,
Programs are not a big concern cause I can just install them again,
Will Sprite Backup allow me to do that ?
its better to install your programms again to a new rom.
if you restore a backup to a different rom, you get a chance to have non-working programms/system/device at all.

Backup?

Hi, everyone. I am tired of installing all the stuff to the phone every time i hard reset it. Is there a program that does a full backup? I want to hard reset it, run the backup program and have all the things working. Regardless if they are installed on the phone or on he memory stick.
Is spb backup well suited for the job. Remember i want everything to work.
Hi
What about the SPB backup ?
It cost a little, but it deserve it .
i prefer sprite backup
Spb backup is what I use...
It creates an executable backup file.
So after you hard reset, just run the backup. Nothing to re-install!
I always make a backup before I install any new apps!!
Stuart
Does Spb backup backs up messages and contacts?
or does it only backs up programs?
Spb will backup everything from contact, sms.... to anything/everything on your storage card!

That one seems also great and profi.
i also recommend spb back-up
I think Resco Backup is the most complete backup / restore software, but as it's a new challenger in Windows Mobile, they still have some small issues. For me everything works except the SMS / MMS restore, which I backup / restore temporary with PIM Backup 4.8 (which is a freeware).
I have made a backup with SPB from R1 Generic_UK ROM and I'm trying to use the backup file for the R2 Generic_UK ROM.
After restoring I got the error message:
"MainWnd.cpp 198
Unable connect to server"
Any solution?
I had problems with spb backup as well. mine did install, but i ended up with flickering screen and as soon as I clicked on settings the phone froze, so i had to take the battery out. I have been reinstalling and resetting everything for the past 4 hours.
You need to remember, If you are updating your rom...
This is essentially putting an new version of the OS your Xperia!!
So the Only items you want to restore is Databases(contacts, datebook, sms...etc) and Data(my docs area)
You do not want to restore system files or registry!!!
This will conflict with the new ROM!!!
So You after you restore only the Data.... You need to re-install apps!!!
hth,
Stuart
btw, when you run your current SPB Backup file. It will give you the option of a full retore or choosing what you want to re-Install (selective restore)....stu
I recommend SPB Backup. I use it to restore my phone about 3 times and it works great.
Features I like:
- Very fast backup and restore!
- Backups *everything*, stand-alone restorer.
- Can compress the backup.
- Can choose what to backup/restore.
- And the best thing: SPB Backup Sync! It's basically an application like the Active Sync program on your PC. You can configure it to make backups everytime you sync and copy them to your PC automatically. Works great.
Myself had trouble with it, and I did try the Pim backup, small software perhaps do not backup all the programs, but, back-up, contacts and differents folders

I test drove a few of the backup programs out there a while back and posted my fave two here: http://xperiancer.blogspot.com/2009/01/data-backup-be-prepared.html
I recently was notified of HTC Backup utility - a free utility, as well as the new version of Resco Backup which is supposedly better than SPB Backup. I will be checking them out in the next day or so and posting more at the blog.
What about a restore after a firmware update. Will it work?

I prefer to just backup pim.vol, cemail.vol, the weather database and a few other files. Then just let the new ROM run and install everything I want and put the backup files in play. It's fast and automatic. No fuss and it's all built in.
sprite backup does the same as spb backup,it has all the same features but i found it does not give me half as many errors as spb

How to Sprite/ SPB backups work with updated custom ROMs?

Have been playing around with Sprite and SPB Backup. They seem to do a good job of restoring the phone to the last backed up state. This is important for me, because my phone has been very moody and keeps hard resetting itself. Restoring from a backup brings back lot of my data and app installs. The thought of manually reinstalling everything make me shudder.
Now given the incredible rate at which chefs keep updating their ROMs, how do you keep updating to the latest, and then restore your settings and apps from a backup? I ran into strange errors when I updated from Topix 1.5 to 1.6 and tried to do a restore. The phone simply froze up. So that backup was useless and I had to redo all settings and reinstall all apps. My assumption is that system files would have changed when the ROM got updated, and the older ones from the backup were incompatible.
is there a better way of doing this? I would like to have the latest and greatest ROM, without having to reinstall apps or redo my email and facebook/ twitter settings. Update ROM, restore from backup, and you are done!
and sorry if this question is a repeat. i am a recent convert to windows mobile (thanks to hd2 - the hardware is too good to resist), and i am still finding my way around this wonderful forum.
Same question
I was searching xda-dev just to ask the same question...
Spb backup is great for backing up all contact data + all programs and their configs. It has saved me many times.
Now I want to do a rom upgrade (my first ;-) )...
Is there any shortcut to reinstall all programs and configurations with a Spb backup after doing a rom upgrade ?
May be restoring all except the windows directory ??
Thanks in advance.
It looks like you both need some advice!
it is a well known fact that you should ONLY use SPB/Sprite, if you are flashing EXACTLY the same rom.
However if you are flashing from ROM A -> ROM B you should NEVER use either of these programs as they can really damage your instalation.
you should use PIMBackup for this, it takes Contacts SMS/MMS etc,and you can assign custom files.

This is INSANITY!! you will destroy your install!! you should never back up program instalations because it is to messy, just flash and reinstall you apps!
or use SASHIMI, which is an auto installer!!

Spb backup did the job for me
Use the spb backup in the rom upgrade mode
Untick the "override file"
and it "almost restore" back to everything I was in before the rom upgrade without the need to reinstall all the applications and imput all the data all over again.
However in the htc sense stock page I got to import my stock data from my backup as the above process failed to restore it. Save and except for this issue I am overall very happy with the obove method of getting a better performing rom without the need of reinstalling all the applications and imputting the data all over again.
A very promising approach
Thank you both for the prompt and enlightening replies.
I have looked into Sashimi; it looks like it is too complex a process to go through if you are going to update rom once or twice a year.
Using Spb backup as described by Leslie Lee looks VERY interesting. I am definitely going to try it.

Backing up before flashing (which software programs)

Decent WM backup software. I have tried SPB Backup, but what I am really looking for is a program that will mirror my entire phone so that on a reload, all I have to do is load the backup program and then restore a recent backup file and the phone is exactly the way it was - say before a hard reset.. does anyone know of such a program and more to the point, have they tried it and does it work.. TIA.

Okay, thanks for that.. I have a trial copy but if it does what I need then I will purchase full copy.. cheers..
I have to agree. I use Spb backup all the time to restore. I keep a clean backup (after hard reset - all my config and programs included). That way I have no issues installing new apps or making changes. It they don't work - just restore to best config. I love it!
I use SPB but I don't think that it backs up registry changes, so if you've made registry changes you'd have to back up those as well. I use PHM registry backup becasue it's free
SPB does save registry if you tick the little option.
Can you use SPB backup to restore ALL data not just PIM info after a ROM upgrade? Has anybody tried it?

Well last night I backed using SPB and also Resco Backup.. Both do just what I want but I have to say that the Resco Backup actually looks better as it offers to show you the differences between stored backup and what is currently on your phone, it also seems to offer so much more of the little stuff but all in all they are both very good.
I flashed my phone last night and the restore was very straight forward and as I have my phone heavily customised to suit my wishes, I am pleased to say it has all come back to the same as before, so that is good news.
When you use SPB backup and make a Backup! Do you guys rekomend to backup the Regestery aswell ?
Dose All the Installed apps comeback with same settings ?
Even after a Room Uppdate is it Safe to do such a backup ? or only if its the same room and making a Hard Reset ?
Back-up programm on computer
I'm looking for a back-up programm which I can install on my computer instead on my HTC HD2.
I cannot synchronize my phone with outlook because it's to old and therefore no connection can be made. At least so it says.
MyPhone doesn't work for me either, cause it only downloads contacts and so on if their is a connection between my mobile and outlook.
Before the HTC HD2 I had another mobile (not a windows mobile), for this mobile I had a programm (PC Suite) with which I could make a back-up of my entire mobile. And I could enter my backed-up data on my computer.
I hope someone can tell me which back-up programm I can use.
